Don't trust the percentages.
The AI is predictable as fuck, they WAAGH into every fight which can be good or bad for you based on your faction and the setup.

Don't try story mode missions until you're pretty fucking badass, and remember that your special character has to survive but otherwise is going to be doing most of the heavy lifting.

Gather Warpstone, its crucial. Every map, prioritize Warpstone.

The problem with playing against the AI is that they're so busy to get into a fight with you that they don't leave you much time to gather it, and you get a lot of requests from your faction leader demanding a certain amount of Warpstone so unless you know how to get your shit quickly then you'll never have enough to send to the other two factions you can send it to for bonuses.

In general, being fast will get you around so you can get that Warpstone, being strong and not carrying much items into the map allows you to carry a lot of it, but you don't want to get your guys isolated because the AI will just rush and kill the fuck out of them and loot their body so you don't actually keep that Warpstone they gathered.

Move as a group, hit as many Warpstone deposits as you can until you encounter the enemy, then end the match quickly.

Players tend to be less focused on the fight until all the Warpstone is nabbed though.

i never understood people who hated 8th Ed empire models. they wanted historical stuff for some reason, while the REAL empire is crazy awesome shit like

>>47155428
>>47155632

and picrelated.
If anything, Empire stuff should be more bizarre than what 8th Ed. brought.
>>
>>47155704
The "REAL Empire" was only heavily focused on "crazy awesome shit" for two editions. I prefered the Empire to be more historical based with a "crazy awesome shit" subtext. It contrasted better with all the insane stuff they had to fight all the time. The Empire was a beacon of normality in a bizarre world and that was fun.
>>
>>47155704

I thought the models looked great. Most of the stuff is pretty perfectly designed and just flavorful enough. Also most fantasy doesn't use the Renaissance style so it felt fresh when I first discovered.
>>
>>47155692

Can these be compiled into a PDF? I'm not up to trying to save and sort sixty individual images.
>>
>>47155872
>bizarre world
it's a world of cliched high elves, cliched undead, cliched spiky evul warriors, cliched arthurian knights and overcliched dwarfs. it's a fairly typical fantasy world, with little bits of original content. it could actually use some actual bizarre stuff. Empire had potential to be the bizarre faction, but no. people just can't stand when the default generic human faction is not, well, generic.
>>
>>47155978
That stuff is bizzare if you are from the real world and isn't used to generic fantasy clichés.

Warhammer is like 30 years old and all the generic fantasy ideas that went into it was considered relevant and not worn out at the time.

It's also a world were the Empire has an empire of rats living right under their feet, they don't know about it and refuse to take claims about Skaven seriously because the notion is bizarre to them. It's a setting were the Empire farmer goes to fuck his farm animal and later in the middle of the night he is awaken by a noise coming from outside. When he goes to investigate he sees footprints in the snow that suggests that a newborn farm animal walked away on it's hindlegs.

Very relatable stuff and grounded in reality.

Don't you hate it when that happens to you?

Too busy trying to see if the WFB universe has any cats and trying to woo Bretonnian ladies.

I wonder if they follow a rare medieval practice where if you fight under a lady's favor in a tournament and win you can take her to bed. It would be an interesting way to explain where Bretonnians get all their young knights from without getting constrained by noble marriages.

WFB has cats, they have been mentioned in books and Neferata's old trick to manipulating powerful men was turning her vampire servant girls into cats, slipping them in the men's houses, and the vampire shapeshifts back into a humanoid form to have sex with him until he makes her his wife.

For anyone who might be saving this for their own use, pinning doesn't work worth a shit.

You use your glue, apply to one metal side, apply a super thin sheet of tissue, then apply glue to the other to form a paper mache style cement between the metal parts.

Units of Tomb/Grave Guard with the Banner of Eternal Flame should work wonders against HPAs, Treemen, and any other Flammable/Regenerating monsters. Same with the TK skull catapult, I think it has Flaming too, although I think it's kinda subpar against non-Flammable/Regenerating monsters.

Combat Vampire Lords/Tomb Kings can waste most monsters with some good die rolls. The TK sphinxes can go toe-to-toe with monsters as well.

Chaos Warriors are kind of like CSM, but there's really no loyalist-equivalent. Bretonnia maybe a little bit, as they're a faction relying near-exclusively on mounted knights, making them sort of like the Space Marines to the Empire's IG, but you'd really have to stretch to convince yourself of that.

According to the WHFRP Bret book, there are plenty of young noble "nephews" under stewardship of their "uncles" and "aunts", and plenty of merchants sons find themselves well appointed in the navy or such with a mysterious noble benefactor. These are suggested common backgrounds for Bret characters

The Empire is the historical flavoured faction fighting against a bizarre world while being mundane and they get ahead with being inventive. Most people of the Empire will never see the Clockwork Horse, a Demigryph or a Chaos Warrior. A lot of the them don't know what a proper trained wizard is supposed to be like and they would feel safer just not having them around. They just go to their work in the morning and nothing particularly supernatural happens. That makes them the average guys - the normal guys.

Bretonnia is also pretty normal in the sense that Bretonnia is medieval France mixed with North Korea where the knights eventually evolve into French Captain America of the round table.
>>
Wow. AoS General died without reaching bump limit and we held on.
>>
>>47162382
Lets not talk about Age of Sigmar. It's a pointless topic to dwell on.
>>
>>47162382
It's because someone started a thread about the Silver Tower boardgame and split the posters.
>>
>>47162410
Unfortunately we hit the image limit one hundred posts of the bump limit, so we've got to rely on real conversation now.

So what is the worst change to 9th Age, and what is the best?

I vote for riders dying with mounts and nerfed cannons.
>>
>>47162382
>>47162410
Such language is uncalled for in a civilized thread.

>>47162440
My local group has been hemming and hawing on 9th age, aside from the two points you mentioned, is there a list of major bullet points for the biggest changes on the ruleset?
>>
>>47162440
>worst
removed some of random charts

>best
brought back bloodlines for vamps, aspects for WE and other fluffy stuff for other factions i don't care about

it sorta evens out for me in the end, so i'm kinda happy
>>
>>47162497
>shit tier

Absurd overprice of core troops on purpose, leading to taking even 1% too much core the ultimate suboptimal choice you can do.

That's not how balancing should have been done. Also some armies really got the shitty end of the stick.
>>
>>47162382

More than half of the thread was dumping pages from the 8th Edition rulebook.
>>
>>47155632
i wish minis of this creature, that looks like a bastard of angel, train, gryphon and tomb world sphinx
>>
>>47163283
>tomb world
tomb king, i mean
>>
Hello, guys. I want to feel the atmosphere of Empire, but i am newbee in all this. May you guid me, plz? What books i must read first?
>>
>>47163297
Still a better name than AoS stuff.
>>
>>47155632
I'm fine with the Demigryphs, I just don't think they look all that impressive. I'm really less positive to the oversized gryphon they got. The jumbo-gryphon has a terrible static pose and its plumes looks like pinecones. Thankfully GW had produced a much nicer looking plastic gryphon for the Island of Blood box and I bought two of them from ebay.
>>
>>47163367
The Gotrek and Felix novels are pretty good. Most of the action takes place within the Empire.
>>
>>47160593
Also giant monsters that cause fear or terror tests don't have that effect.
>>
What are the bare essentials to get me started with modeling and painting? Surely buying supplies directly off the GW site isn't cost efficient. Could I just go into any art supply shop and pick up paints there?

Maybe I should just put it out of my mind completely, since I'm broke as fuck.

Also there's a lot of what I would presume are old models being posted in this thread. Have these models been discontinued and are gone forever?
>>
>>47156832
I remmeber reading an interview with one of Gws founders talking about how much GW and TSR kept from each other in the early days because they were both being run out of some guys apartment and thought the other was a real business.

>>47158896
Matt ward was a big problem with GW, his shit house balance really killed the tourney scene.
You can have an incredibly difficult game or an incredibly unbalanced one succeed so long as people believe they have a chance.
No one believed they had a chance against 40 white lions with a banner of nope.

>>47163367
Start with gotrk and felix, then branch out into which ever faction you like the sound of.
The gotrek and felix books are hit and miss but they do a good job of fleshing out the warhammer world, I actually dropped the series at city of the damned though because it was written so poorly.
>>
>>47160530
and ogres had a magic banner that made the bearer immune to it. best banner ever
>>
>>47155214
A new empire swordman unit, based on perry and 6th ed bitz. New colour scheme too.
>>
>>47155704
8th ed empire models aren't all bad. Only the state troops and the shooters, who are really, really removed from the concept art to the point even the old kits are better. Pyjamas and barefoot, seriously.

On top of my mind, the mechanical steed and the witch hunters are really great, as was the hero and the wizard kits.
>>
>>47164722
The greatsword and pistoliers/outriders kits are pretty good too.

Really, it's just the state troops.
>>
>>47164722
>Only the state troops and the shooters
obviously, those are absolute shit tier

i was talking about demigryphs and altars though
those are straight out of those awesome artworks

and they don't really contradict that "Empire is one normal place in a bizarre world" that anons above talked about, since demigryphs and war/arcane altars are seen even more rarely than clockwork monsters
>>
What scale are WHFB minis? Not in mm, but in 1:xx ?
One local store has some Zvezda terrain on sale, but it's 1:72 so I wonder if it will fit muh minis
>>
>>47164767
I don't personally like the demigryphs, but I think they fit the empire's aesthetics. I toyed with the idea of making huge wolf riders as my army is from middenland to field them. The altars are really nice too.

Really, the gripe I have with post-6th edition models come from the state troops and the shooters.
>>
>>47164789
>I toyed with the idea of making huge wolf riders as my army is from middenland to field them.
have a look at Hoodling's Hole blog, that guy did that and it looks fucken awesome
>>
>>47164786
1:64 roughly
>>
>>47164844
hm, that's close... will have to take a mini to the store and ask the guy if i can open the box to see if it fits
>>
>>47163962
If you're poor avoid Gw.

When you say painting and modeling, are you meaning to start an army or just paint shit?
>>
>>47164922
Zvezda minis are kinda small compared to GW usually, except for the knights for some reason. Scenery should be on the short side, probably good enough to fit.
>>
>>47163962
Might as well help

>Models
Choose whatever floats your boat
>Base spray & paints
Most modellist paints work, GW's are easy to use but overpriced, personally I use Vallejo, for washes, mess with diluting paints and never again rely on premade washes, though you may want them for the replicability
>Tools, glue…
Skip all GW-branded tools, not worth the price, I still got the same plastic glue from when I got into the hobby, generic superglue works for metal

Once you get the hang of it, consider an airbrush, not mandatory tho

And above else, look for painting tutorials (drybrushing and washing mostly) and experiment
>>
>>47161480
I take it you never played 40k

5th ed Grey Knights was the worst book ever made in every single possible way.
The new units he helped desing were fucking retarded. The fluff completely destroyed the appeal of Grey Knights and read like something straight out of a 13 year old kid's fanfiction. Draigo was quite possibly the biggest mary sue ever made. The rules themselves were absolutely broken, even against his other books that they were normally fairly consistent against each other.

For this book alone, Ward deserved all the hate he got.
>>
>>47163962
With paints, it's best not to cheap out. Go for Vallejo, Game Workshop, Army Painter or Coat'd'Arms

Tamiya is also okay, but avoid Humbrol like the plague
> Have these models been discontinued and are gone forever
some have, some haven't
you can find a lot on ebay though, and if you manage to join the super secret chinese recaster club you can get access to a lot of out of production shit. Sadly I can't tell you how to do that, because being super secret is all that stops them from being enough of a problem for GW to shut them down
>>
>>47160918
>>47160942
>>47161194
Alright. Does the Empire have any cool infantry/gunner units, then?
>>
>>47165527
Yes, Empire infantry are usually normal dudes in uniform, handgunners, crowwpowmen, archers, halberds, swords or spears. You have a militia/free company troop choice, a elite infantry in plate armor and two-handed sword and balls-to-the-walls crazy fanatics.
>>
>>47165494
>5th edition grey knights
>worst ward book ever

Lel. I'm not disagreeing that 5th edition GK wasn't unbalanced as shit but, ironically, it was held in check by two more Warddexes, the Blood Angels and the Necrons. There was nothing, NOTHING that could stand against Ward's 7e Daemons of Chaos at full power.
>>
So, Can someone help me with my 9th list?

Orcs and Goblins, 2500. I'm unsure if I should add a second wizard or a solo goblin hero.

Lords-(570)-
- Iron Orc Warlord (Blessed Sword, Dragonscale Helm, Talisman of Supreme Shielding, Potion of Strength, Shield, War Boar)-265
- Savage Orc Big Shaman (Fencer's Swords, Gem of Fortune, Dispel Scroll, Path of the Big Green Gods)-305

Heroes-(208 OR 205)-
- Feral Orc Chief (Battle Standard Bearer, Screaming Swords, Mithril Mail, Waaargh! Paint)-130
Core-(813)-
- 38x Feral Orc 'Eadbashers (Champion, Musician, Veteran Standard Bearer, Banner of Speed, Mammoth Stabber, Paired Weapons)-468
- 20x Orcs (Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer, Crossbows, Heavy Armour)-200
- 5x Forest Goblin Raiders(Shields, Light Lances, Shortbows)-75
- 5x Forest Goblin Raiders(Shields, Light Lances, Shortbows)-75

Special-(618)-
- 13x Mounted 'Eadbashers (Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer, Stalker's Standard, Shields, Heavy Armor)-348
- Splatterer-90
- Splatterer-90
- Git Launcher-90

Rare-(285)-
- Gnasher Wrecking Team-65
- Gnasher Wrecking Team-65
- Giant (Ward Save)-155

Then, who do I add?

- Forest Goblin Chief (Shortbow, Lance, Hardened Shield, Potion of Speed, Huntsmen Spider)-78

OR

- Forest Goblin Shaman(Scuttler Spider)-75

One is 2+ armor with potential assassination abilities, and the other is a level 1 wizard. Ideas?
>>
>>47164411
I dropped Gotrek and Felix at Vampireslayer. No William King, no way. Dragonslayer and Beastslayer was pretty shit, though.
>>
>>47165807
>crowwpowmen
I want a tzeentchian riflemen unit called Crowpowmen now.
>>
>>47166103
I like to think an assassin order that worships Morr and their mandatory method is gunpowder.
>>
i need Skryre inspiration. suggest me movies/vydia/other /tg/s where i can go for ideas, inspiration and maybe bitz for crazy haphazard tech. not necessarily rats, just skryre-style tech.
>>
>>47162497
they brought back bloodlines, but in the shittiest way possible. a blatant tier list of best to worst, boring powers, only getting to pick one power, and the vamps just being kind of shit for their points all around. this even though their forums are practically begging to go back to vamps being really good even if it means the rest of the army taking a hit to balance it out. which is just their real problem all over again: they dont give a shit about what anyone else has to say
>>
>>47166058
>I'm not disagreeing that 5th edition GK wasn't unbalanced as shit but, ironically, it was held in check by two more Warddexes, the Blood Angels and the Necrons.

Oh look, another memer who doesn't know what he's talking about. Space Wolves and Guard were the kings of 5e, Grey Knights came late and while powerful were on the level of Dark Eldar power builds. The strength of the Grey Knights was the great internal balance, everything was a good choice, so even bad players could accidentally put together a competitive army.
The Necrons would only become top tier later when 6e hit and their Scythes became flyers rather than skimmers. No one had the answer to air power at that time. Blood Angels were never great.

>There was nothing, NOTHING that could stand against Ward's 7e Daemons of Chaos

Vampire Counts and Dark Elves were just as powerful.
>>
>>47158896

>real problem with GW

at this point, I wonder if everyone has a major case of stockholm syndrome for tolerating GW's shit for decades at this point

newcrons were the tipping point where I just gave up on newer shit
>>
>>47166224
I was fine with the Newcron retcon by virtue of the C'tan basically being removed from the setting as an active "It was me, just according to Dio!" force. The Newcron fluff itself seems pretty shitty, though.

The Dark Eldar revision in 5'th edition was surprisingly good, though.
>>
>>47166100
I find mages more useful myself, close combat assassination (against mages kept in the backlines I guess) is a really hard task even for a fast character.
>>
>>47156161
Ok, I've compiled the PDF but it turned out to big to be easily uploaded through 4chan so I'll either make an imgur album with the various pages or upload it somewhere else.

suggestions?
>>
>>47166933
mega it
>>
>>47166259
>by virtue of the C'tan basically being removed from the setting as an active "It was me, just according to Dio!" force.

You mean by the virtue of you being total idiot. Everything the C'tan did is still canon except now it's "It's me shard-Dio".
>>
>>47160862
we hit the image limit but I've got 3 links with a bunch of unit concepts, many for the empire
http://imgur.com/a/k3bQl
http://imgur.com/a/U7gBf
http://imgur.com/a/Lk3H2

the closest analogs to space marines would either be knights orders and warrior priests for the empire and chaos warriors for chaos since the very concept of the space marine was born from them; the bretonnian knights reach a certain resemblance to black templars due to the occasional crusading theme while the grail knights reach the point of being superhuman warriors among the factions of order.

There're also the stormcast eternals to be honest which are a way more direct translation of space marines, but those are stuff from the age of sigmar, which is not exactly well considered by many, me included, nor have any right or place to appear in the warhammer fantasy setting that is discussed in this thread.
