Unfortunately, you can't do this. I would let you do it if it were RAW even though it's not RAI (Salamanders know how to master-craft their battle barge weapons batteries), but you can't do this even by abusing RAW.

The Orbital Strike Relay is not a weapon, it is "treated as" a weapon. In the Chapter Master's entry, it is listed under "wargear", not "weapons". You cannot mastercraft "wargear" just like you can't mastercraft his storm shield or artificer armor or iron halo.

All weapons are listed under wargear, the Orbital Strike is also listed under ranged weapons just like bolters and plasma pistols. Check it out real quick.

Nevermind, I just checked, in the 7E codex they lumped weapons all into wargear, and Orbital Strike's rules are in the Ranged Weapons armoury list, so yeah you can MC orbital strikes.

Probably just hasn't been abused because not many people stray away from Vulkan and normally want to upgrade plasma pistols of power weapons, I just thought it was weird as hell that it was even directly possible.

Oh I agree, it has limited usefulness. But when the options are to master craft a bolt pistol, or how others have master crafted krak grenades in the same situation of wanting the chapter tactics to be useful, rerolling for a direct hit wouldn't be bad.

Krak grenade or orbital bombardment would probably be more useful than bolt pistol to MC.

Krak grenade is a ranged S6 attack, don't laugh at it.

I'm not hating on the krak grenade, I've slapped a storm raven out of the air with one before. But a spot on S10 Ap1 pie plate does have its advantages.
