The new Orks are pretty good. I'm not an ultra fan of the shape of the armor itself, but I am a huge fan of walking juggernauts incased in armor.
>That Megaboss
Gazzie can go back to bed.
I would like to know if its okay to use thinned down GW paint with your airbrush pistol or if that shit clocks to hell and back and if its better to get the FW airbrush for that?
Second, anyone here, ANYONE knowing a place or a guy selling the Forgeworld Hive Tyrant Venom Cannon?
>>46943953
Airbrush acrylics is just thinned down regular acrylics so it won't be a problem.
>>46943953
I thin GW paints an airbrush them, they're fine if you get used to the right ratio of thinner to paint, which just comes with experience.
GW sell airbrush paints which need little to no thinner, but since they don't sell them in stores I only have a few. They seem good but I'd still use a drop of thinner to make them go a bit further.
Forgeworld airbrush paints are pretty damn good. I use their Corvus Black for lots of things, because it is just off black. Great for leather and stuff. They don't have much sticking power though so careful handling models with lots of them on it you haven't sealed.
I already posted this in the previous thread but can I get some C&C on my Storm Knight? I still have to add the extra smoke bits and maybe the lightning parts but I'm not too confident about making the lighting look nice. If you have any advice on that, it would be much appreciated. I'm done with him yet but atm strapped for time and cant immediately change him up.
please go easy on me, im inexperienced and i know i should have thinned my paints more.
I posted this in the last thread but it was pretty much dead.
I want to do nurgle but I don't want the cliche green or flesh color scheme.
would blue work? does it look like fungus enough?
>first time painting or sculpting, go easy
First minis in progress, this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I could do with getting a small layer or detail brush to get anywhere near applying details. I'm not sure if black legion colour scheme goes well with marines but I want to give it a go.
So far I've applied a thin layer of balthusar and auric on top of the terminator with washes. I'm not sure if the paints are thinning or if thr terminator model is snap fit and poor in quality.
I'm trying to wash everything with Agrax including the black armour because I'm cheap. Basically does anyone have any advice how to improve or finish up?
WIP Orlock heavy with flamer.
Not that I have a heavy with flamer, but you never know.

Here's also a photo with a thin imperial primer layer.
>>46946282
I think it's an interesting idea, maybe make the edges of the mold brighter like in the actual pictures of the mold

Had a wander into my FLGS and got this bad boy...with 15% off...feels good mang.
My heart says Rogue Trader colour scheme.
Also that photography article is pretty useful.
>>46946925SalamandersRT color scheme.
But yeah, well done for this one. I got mine mine off ebay, as I wasn't in town when it got out. Went to my local GW, thought I might get one and offer it here, since I know many people here didn't get their own. But it apparently sold out in 2 hours in the shop.
>>46946925
Which FLGS is that then? I thought the only people still selling those were scalpers.

So how would I go about converting a techmarine to an ordo mechanicus inquisitor? I was thinking about just sculpting him a hood and sticking some inquisition bits on him, but would there be a better way?
>>46946282
You need to make the edges white and fuzzy.
third attempt at marble (will apply gloss varnish later)
>>46944370
Not really. Some regular acrylic paints react badly with airbrush thinner. And you can further thin down airbrush paints, in fact you should never use airbrush paint directly from the pot into your airbrush.
>>46947949
that white marble is spot on, the black requires bits of quarts in it, but i can't say how that would be done
>>46947949
you've gotten the white bang on, it's way better than your first attempt, well done.
>>46948036
consider that my ability with photography fucks up the effect on the marble a little bit. black has more diluted lines and some lighter ones (where I still wobbled the hand to make it look less straight). maybe I should remove some of the lines though
>>46948087
well it's also thanks to you guys
>>46947949
White marble is much better.
Black on the other hand is still wayy to discernable. It doesn't look like random striages like it should be, right now it looks like thunder.
>>46946436
>>46946462
Nice Hammers of Dorn mate!
And I finished working on the VC Necrosphinx conversion. Now off to paint it
>>46947949

I think a really really thinned glaze of brown over the black might help.
NEW PAINTING VIDEO FINALLY, BUT ITS NOT DUNCAN.
WHY.

I was thinking of buying BaC and using green stuff to make my own CSM out of it.
I've never used green stuff before though. How hard would it be to make it look as if the marines own bones are growing OUT of their armor?

>>46949765
he can't paint everything
>>46943888
damn he's a big guy
>>46950124
Well their new weirdboy could fit if you just want to do one of each Clan.
A feral ork would be sorta good for Bleeding Hollow.
The problem is that now the warcraft orks are extremely muscular, and have a head a bit above their shoulders, unlike the standard warhammer ork. New ones are perfect for that, but if you add some GS to make a higer neck and bigger muscles on old orks you can do the other clans.
>>46950236For you.
>>46950408
I could do just one special unit of each clan and then fill the troops with brown orks.
>try to be as neat as possible, it looks like a chinese toy

I remember Vallejo paints getting all around positive reviews, but now I'm trying to acquire some and I forget if there's a difference between "model color" and "game color." Also, do tiny plastic dudes require a specific type of primer?
>>46943888
I usually tell people to re-size their needlessly large, uncropped png's, but please upsize your image.
>>46946038
It's looking really good so far, I think the issue is nothing pops. Maybe make the armor more shiny or add brighter highlights to the blue/green color. Keep going, I like him.
>>46943888
The armor shape is generic modern fantasy rocky/jagged/evil armor. See Deathwing from WoW, Darksiders, Warrior armor from WoW, comic books, Spawn's upgraded costume, League of Legends, etc.
The large, rocky, jagged carapace look is very popular for fantasy armor.
>>46950796

>wrong, because he doesn't know who this bitch is despite the fact she did the Alpha Legion and other tutorials only a couple months ago
Newfags pls.
>>46946038
A) Dafuck is with that image.
B)It looks pretty neat generally, you've got highlights and contrast, but I think adding an accent colour to the scheme would have helped.
As it stands, blue, bluegrey, grey and silver all very much blend into one.
I'm now cutting up some of the black and white stripes to try out as the wall paper, but the stripes kinda hurt my eyes to look at for a long time so this will take a while.
I've got some fancy card stock with silk or velvet texture that I'm thinking of cutting some rugs for the entry way and some of the long halls.
And I'm thinking of replacing the front porch area with some balsawood to make it look like a proper outside deck/porch.

>>46951848

I want to make a Deatwatch Terminator force. It's gonna be 10 termies and a librarian.
Can I give the plastic terminator librarian a helmet or am I forced to use the bare head?
Is the Deathwing's kit good for making non-DA models or should I just stick to the standard teminator kit with a few fancy bits thrown in?
>>46954937
You can, but you'd have to cut away his face and widen the hole a bit. It looks really good though. The old metal terminator grey knights and librarians had helmets.
The Deathwing kit and DV are nice, but they have a lot of winged swords on them.
The most important part about making a Deathwatch force is having the Deathwatch shoulder pad and painting them black with a silver arm. Should be very easy to do, especially with eBay for the cheap shoulders (everyone wants the power armor one so there's tons of Terminator ones) and the Deathwatch Overkill models for that awesome Salamander.
The DA also get a Deathwatch shoulder for their Deathwing.
I had to go back and change all the DW's in this post to Deathwatch and Deathwing.
Trying out a headswap for The Night Haunter here. I wanted a second opinion on the head-size.

You can get a tabletop standard just from drybrushing.
These are WIP from a year ago. I was mid-way through the fine-highlighting.
Armour was: incubi darkness, sybarite green, blue wash (sometimes twice).
Then you can highlight the edges with sybarite green again (like the legs have been done).
Also I would recommend the Death Guard HH scheme for Dark Eldar as well. Bone armour, and a few green plates, with some steel and brass metallics.
>>46957904
Oh, shit. I just realized that. I can do drybrushing quite well. Then I can just cover what I don't want up with some Incubi Darkness. Thanks.
I want to give a few of my Oath Broken marines in my Black Legion army some cybernetics, a few fake legs/arms and eye lenses.

balsawood - I made those ridges to resemble GW style woodgrain and then covered it with some super glue to make it hard
>>46958420
That's what my guess was. I'm going to use this liberally when I get to makin' my orky/orcish terrain. I might skip the super glue step though since I don't care for using that stuff If it can be avoided...

FW are going to make helmets for Primarchs?
>>46947949
The pattern is too large, it makes the scale look off, kind of like when you use coarse sand with tiny minis and it looks like everything is gravel or rocks instead of desert.
Also, you should probably try to blend some of it while the paint is still wet, the transitions are too rough, especially on the black side.
Try painting one layer of marbling, then painting it over with a thinned down coat of white to give it a translucent look before painting another layer of patterning.
>>46951804
Tiny plastic dudes do require some kind of primer, if you have an airbrush, vallejo polyurethane primer is awesome, and comes in lots of different shades and colors.
The game color and model color are just different lines. Game color is more vibrant and have a more GW style pallet, Model color is more muted and have more nuances since it's used by people who are autistic about what real panzer grey looks like etc.
>>46957679
Oh hey, are those burned wood? I got a bunch of custom sized model bases on ebay made of burned wood discs, they smell so fucking good.
Are the Vallejo metallics not that great or am I doing something wrong? I can thin as much as I want (using a Flow-Aid/Drying Retarder/Water mix which works fantastic for non-metallics, on a wet palette) and it still goes on way too thick, obscuring detail and looking weird in general.
I don't have any Citadel metallics to compare since I just recently got back into painting after a four year hiatus but looking at my old minis I painted with Citadel metallics there's a huge difference.
>>46961206

>>46961263
>>46961438
What are you diluting them with?
>>46961438
>>46961263
Vallejo metallics are way thick compared to the rest of their paints, the trick is to use a small amount of paint to cover a lot of miniature. even when watered down, rather than trying to get it to the same consistency as you use with your other paints.
In general I find GW's silvers to be better than vallejos, but vallejos golds and copper tones to be better than gws.
What kind of cup do use for the brushes?
think im done
>>46961741
This is a tricky one, generally you want to find a cup that
A: holds water (or other liquids) efficiently
B: has no holes in it.
C: Is not too small or too big
D: does not melt on contact with water (this disqualifies materials such as ice)
Other than that, you're good.
Unless you actually meant what cup to put your brushes in and leave them there, in which case the answer is either "none, ever, what are you doing to your brushes please stop" or "Literally any cup that doesn't fall over" depending on which end of the brush is pointing up.
>>46961741

>>46962058
>Pick a brush
>Lightly wet it, you have no real reason to put a dry brush in paint
>Apply a bit of paint
>Apply paint to palette
>Use paint from palette, reapplying the brush, or adding more paint or more water as you desire (also keep a paper towel handy, brush across the towel to rid yourself of excess paint or to quickly dry a brush of excess water)
>When you are changing colors or finished, dip just the bristles into the water, do your best not to get any part of the brush beyond the bristles wet
>Thoroughly swirl the brush through the water until all the paint is removed
>Repeat earlier steps with new color
>When you are finished painting, clean all your brushes in warm water and with soap (or brush cleaner) and either hang them from something, or place them on a clean paper towel to dry
>Store brushes bristle side up, never leave them on their bristles

I bought this guy to use as a Squiggoth for my Gorkamorka feral orks, thinking of making it in Dinoriders style, with platforms on the side to stand on, and a "splatapult" on top. But I don't want it to look straight up like a Triceratops, so I should at least change the head. Any ideas what I could use to make it more squiggoth-y? Maybe I'll just have to try sculpting something from scratch.
>>46963928
swapping heads for a tyrannosaur/other carnivore one would be a start. Squiggoths without a big toothy maw look strange.
>>46964187
Agreed. I have a resin monster head that would fit on the neck, but it'd look way too small and be at a strange angle. But getting another one just for the head would be kinda expensive. I'll see what can be done.
reposting some grots I did in Space Wolf colors. Probably going to add some wolf fetishes to them. Working on the other half of the grots now, which are Blood Angels colors.
>>46964926
Try and find another cheapo dinosaur toy around the same size.
>>46964929
Why Space Marine colours for grots?
>>46963928
>>46964926
Or just give it an iron jaw, that's enough to make it propa orky
>>46965351
It's bad that now I want to make plasticard armor for my turtle?
>>46965067
Because they are about as much of a loyalist as the SW themselves?
>>46965351
for a brief moment I thought that someone had dressed up a real turtle for a game.
>>46961263
VMA's Steel is an absolute pleasure to use by brush.
>>46965539
That sound cool, but it's an awful idea. Turtles will always shit at the most innapropriate moments. Always.
>>46959545
Wait. Do the legionaries on the left and right of first row hold two shields?
My sister does a lot of artsy shit. She wants to paint the minis she has for some of her games (right now Zombicide: Black Plague is standing out in my mind).
What are the odds she has an appropriate paint lying around if she's never painted miniatures before? Do you use the same kind of paint on minis that you might use in any other circumstances at all?
>>46961741
>cup
Are you a kid painting watercolors? Git gud.
>>46965648
Not an expert but any acrylic that can be thinned with water should work. The models still need to be properly primed so the paint sticks, though.
>>46965648
Miniature paints have a lot more pigment than regular acrylics; in order to thin them enough to be usable, you'll basically end up painting with slightly colored water.
Aaand it seems i just cannot stop painting space marines. After putting my finished rubics back into the cabinet i stumbled these Gal Vorbak i bought back when they first came out. Sadly i got distracted and left them to collect dust, but that's all in the past. Time to do some true scale possessed!
>>46966148
Also found this Evil Craft Wizard lying around. Same story here, bought it and never touched it. I think he'll fit in pretty well with his mutated bretheren.
>>46965670
you don't *need* to spend money on that at all.
>>46966213
do tell me how the quality of evil craft is, I was wondering if I should get a squad and make them veterans
>>46965503
that's a pretty piss poor reason.
>they think sws fight good so they emulate their colours, like cheer leaders
would have been much better
Any good guide on applying transfer sheets and making it so it doesn't even look like it is a transfer?
>>46966977
should be plenty
micro-sol is I think the product you want
>>46965598
No, a shield held above covers more than one held normally.
You bunch up close and the guys at the very back of the testudo don't get quite as much cover over their heads, but it's at an angle that they're less likely to get done in from.
>>46966977
watch Duncan painting an Ultramarine on yt, he gives some good advice
>>46966977
You want tutorials on using micro-sol and micro-set, and after you've applied the transfer you can go over it with matte medium so it has the same finish as your paint.
>>46967212
I don't mean the shield on top, I mean the shield on the side.
>>46965351
>>46965482
For a moment I thought it was a real turtle.. It was so awesome I shocked from the awesomeness..
>>46962326
Then you'd have kids screaming at each other to 'THIN YOUR CANDY'
>>46966213
Same as anon, their models look gorgeous, I'd like to know more about the actual quality.
Can anyone recomennd me some good rather cheap lamps i can use for painting? one i could buy of ebay/amazon
The area where i paint sadly doesnt see any sunlight
>>46967259
Assume every rank needs one shield per man to give themselves adequate front and top coverage.
Add an extra file onto the edges of that, and squeeze them between the guys on the edge who are holding their shields up: they hold theirs to the side. Doing it this way makes it way slower to move about, but you have the extra protection.
>>46966288
>>46967565
Okay guys. So, the model and its base is 100% resin and it's the whitest resin i've ever seen. Quality is pretty great as well, meaning that it's both flexible and highly detailed. The casting is top notch, really nothing to complain about, minimal flash here and there.
There are quite a few optinal bits: Two guns, bolt and plasma, and three casting hands, staff, axe and... hand. Two heads and two sets of air ducts for his backpack. The base is also included and it's fully detailed.
All in all it's pretty solid, on par with GW's kits. Even the price is pretty much up there, i've paid 22.5€ for this guy.
Still, i recommend it. I mean, it's just a flat all out improvement over the decade old GW CSM stuff.
>>46967670
I use a 50€ LED lamp from ikea. Personally, i don't see the need for "professional" painting lamps, i think that pretty much any adjustable LED lamp will do.
>>46967775
Oh I see, I didn't know there were extra people on the sides.
WIP on my 3rd Daemon Prince of Tzeentch based on the old Tomb Kings Ushabti (w/ Great Weapons) kit.
He is to have 9 gangly arms (of Tzeentch) and I have built up their armatures with arm and hand bits holding various books, weapons and artefacts, or casting spells.
I have also pinned and extended his legs as the finecast resin would not stand up (GET IT?!) to the weight of the Reaper wings. Plus, I just wanted some more height.
>>46968584
And some of my notes on the daemonic Dark Tongue from the Legions of the Damned Realm of Chaos book from 1989.
These will be added to the ribbons at the end of the painting process like on my Sorcerers of Obliteration and other Sorcerers.
>>46967817
Perfect, thanks mate, you review is everything I wanted!
>>46968584
oops, duplicated an image there. fixed here.
>>46966977
I usually cut them as close as I can with a surgical knife, apply them with water and then either use matte varnish or paint over them to make them appear as 'organic' as possible.
>>46968627
>>46968895
Look at this tryhardSeriously, everyone look at this anon's hard work, 'tis beautiful.
Should I freehand some vines?
>>46969621
yes
>>46969621
;3 do it
>>46969621
You can use a soft pencil you layout where the vines are, and then layer paint over that.
>>46965067
they are Blood Axes and Bad Moons themed army. So some are painted camo pattern, like IG, while others are painted after enemies they defeated because they admired their tactics and gave a good fight, Wolves and Angels.
>>46952222
Nice, finally done progress pics!
>>46969621
Damn that's good. Looks like it's kind of made from playdoh. Shaped by it. Molded by it.
>>46961262
Laser cut wood. They're burned because they're... well, cut by a laser.
>>46969621
Wow, that's slick.
this is my third attempt at painting this guy, finally decided on a scheme I like for him.
once i've got the brighter red on the rest of his arms/face i'll give everything another highlight.
As a sidenote I don't like painting big guys
I've really made a lot of progress painting my Star Wars Imperial Assault stuff the last couple of months - I got my Snowtroopers, HK Assassin Droids, Trandoshan Hunters, Hired Guns, and Imperial Officers all painted. I'm ready to paint my Royal Guards, but all of a sudden I've run out of motivation. And I am absolutely dreading painting all my Stormtroopers and their variants.
How do I get back my motivation?
>>46962477
My squigga
>>46968895
god damn
>>46962477
>>46972705
I also added a Colossal fella after a pilgrimage to Nottingham
I want to have fun modifying a lord commissar in some kind of rogue trader for my HQ. any suggestions on what i could do?
for now im thinking about taking some skitarii/admech leftovers and attach them for prostesis and other techstuff
>>46972792
I'd use a WHFB head with the most ostentatious hat or ridiculous mustache you can find.
>>46958031
I'm going to try to clone the "totally not the emperor of mankind" kit's head as they seem to be similar size.
>>46962088
>I always give them a suck to straighten out the brush.
Which paint tastes best :3
>>46972949
God damn the idea never passed in my mind, ill ask around if someone has said parts laying unused somewhere.
>>46972995
That one looks really nice, I don't know why it looks so small in comparison on the body. I too am a fan of pretty mans for primarchs, not some sickly meth head... head that they gave the kit.
>>46972705
I need some of these asap
>>46972995
Out of curiosity I dryfitted the Emprah's head. If they neck would fit into Curze's socket he would probably look less like a giraffe.
>>46973407
And for the fun of it, I put the Emprah in Konrad's head for a minute.
>>46973224
>I don't know why it looks so small in comparison on the body
Sorry for the confusion. the fist head was from Kabuki's Dark Knight.
planning out a conversion of AoS Stormcast Relictor to 40k Terminator Chaplain
remove the stuff in red
dremel down the stuff in green
and figure out whether to use the cape as-is or fill in the runes
>>46973443
just a minute? you tease?
>>46973576
Maybe 5.
>>46973687
Kek
>>46973544
ahh ok, well trimmed down that emp head could look pretty good if you end up using it, fuck that curze head is ugly
>>46959921
I really need to order like 4 if those wargame exclusive Egypt kits
We have a guy at my FLGS that keeps bragging about having them special commissioned from some European pro painter, and I really wamt to show up with like 20 of them just to ruin his "cool factor" I think he's autistic but he's still a prick
I think I want to go with the Emprah's head. But I also want to use it for the Emprah. I was initially thinking of molding his head but as I'm looking at it, they seem to have used a mold more advanced than the standard two part mold. I have no idea how I'm going to remold it.
>>46973892
>fuck that curze head is ugly
If I had more headless models I would dry fit his head onto all of them just to laugh.
>>46974081
maybe you could email em and see about getting a spare head, couldn't hurt to try
alternatively maybe check around at 54mm scale stuff to steal heads from
What do you guys think of my Lynx, and the Lynxes stand, 「PURPLE HORNET」?
>>46972768
no, the god of change ;)
>>46974226
>looking for 54mm models to steal heads from
>find one that's perfect
>the model looks badass too
>too badass
>I'm not cutting that apart
>>46974226
>alternatively maybe check around at 54mm scale stuff to steal heads from
Would Battle Brother Artemis from the old Inquisitor game work?
>>46974773
Well, I just bought Conan. Lets see if I have the courage to behead him and pike his head on my primarch when he gets here.
>>46974881
Too ugly. Primarchs should be always fabulous all the time.Except Perturbo
Are wraiths fun/interesting to work on?
I kind of want to build an all/mostly Wraith army for my next project, just as a break from my Blood Angels, Genestealers and Necrons.
Need to come up with a good color scheme for them, too. As much as going with canon Iyanden would be cool, I really don't like yellow as a color, and would prefer something a bit less garish. Red and dark blue/purple I would also like to avoid (see: Blood Angels, Genestealers). Maybe I'll do them up bright blue with red and white highlights, make em all look like Pepsiman.
>>46973687
>>46973443
Where did you get that GLORIOUS Emperor Model??
>>46976107
Kabuki Models for 45 English kazoos
>>46976245
what's that in Canadian doll hairs?
>>46966148
You know, I would have expected the Rubric Marines to be gathering dust instead.
Dry Fitting a Megas XLR Imperial Knight conversion. The car and arms are all magnetized and none of the armor plates are glued.
The flaming eye and flaming 8-ball are going to go on the pauldrons. I'm also going to use some extra Imperial Knight Shields for Mud Flaps and POut those on the back of the legs. I put the missiles in the chest since the car is on the roof.
One down four to go.
>>46976885
Could use a junkyard on the base.
>>46976969
I was thinking that or a street with a wrecked car. Make it like he's walking down a downtown street or something
>>46976921
Nice generally, definitely solid tabletop standard, but it looks the green on the shoulders and the flesh have a bit too much texture.
Thinner layers, or possibly medium instead of water.
>>46976885
Don't forget to have it rampaging through new jersey's buildings. Crushing something monumental like a cathedral.
>that dawning realization when you've painted over half of your army and the motivation gets fueled greater and greater as your dudes grow closer to looking like a cohesive force
I'm gonna make it bros
>>46973407
Copy that
>>46977125
You can do it anon.
I believe in you.
