If you were given the powers, talents and skills of the last character you played at the cost of becoming that character permanently, would you do it? Why, or why not? How would you actually handle it in practice?
For the memory/personality death types, assume that neither memory or personality change, and that any skills or knowledges gained are in addition to the ones you already have.
You gain all gear that's defining to the character (for example cybernetics for a street samurai), but not the odds and ends that your character might have picked up over time. You have to deal with the consensus of the normal world, but on the flipside only a few hundred other people all over the world are assumed to have undergone the same process (and they're almost all as one 1e Sabbat players or magical-realm players). The picture gives a rather good idea of what they're like - and the thought of what their last characters were like should strike fear into any sane human.
Powers that govern universal concepts or otherwise give you godlike powers become more limited in scope (you won't be able to do much more than subjugate a small country at first at the very most), but not everyone is of the same power level.
Hard mode: You also acquire the character's personality.
I honestly think this is an interesting question, and I'll just throw it up once more to make sure that I don't hit off hours in the US too hard. It resulted in a lot of interesting discussion and a relatively small amount of magical realm, and it's a bit odd that /tg/ doesn't seem to have more to say about it.

My last character was an anachronistic policeman in a medieval setting, called Dante Vigilante of the New Orkleans Paladin Department. It kinda screwed up what was supposed to be a serious one-off, but laughs were had.

Would I become him? Hell yeah, I want to go full stereotypical action movie cop on people.
>>
>>46665289
Definitely yes, because my character is secretly made for wish fulfillment.
The DM and other players fortunately just think I'm playing mechanically optimized character with matching fluff.
>>

Last character played; loli elf mage from shadowrun.

Hell yeah, magic, and super long life. Sounds right up my street and the bonus for being the little girl is just icing on the cake.
>>
>>46665918
You would be an elf, though. Consider that carefully.

Let's see - barbarian 19yo human girl, with shoulders broad as a cadilac, a big ass hammer as a weapon, who knows to sew like a pro with her own gods blessing to go into the world and have fuck-it-all-girls-just-wanna-have-adventure personality spreading his word.

When will transformation begin? I need to buy some new clothes.

>secretly made for wish fulfillment
It's no fun if you don't elaborate.

>Sanctic Daemonologist Astropath from the Ordo Malleus
>Incredibly attuned to the ways of the Warp and very knowledgeable of its tides
>Fused with the essence of the Emperor himself through sanctification and soulbinding
>If my powers exist, the Warp exists
>I become a Psyker that bears the essence of the Emperor of Mankind within him

Am I Malcador? Is this where it all begins?

What about certain specific character motivations? My current character was previously a farmer whose family was butchered. Does my family get butchered in some way? Because if not I'll just settle down and farm.

Let's assume it actually happened, and that there were no handwaves involved. How would you actually, practically deal with it?
I like hearing how people would deal with having their wish-fulfillment fantasies brought to life, mainly because I play a lot of Demon and need as much inspiration as I can. The "deal with the devil" theme is great fun in action, but it can be hard to do realistically if you don't have a bit of perspective.

>Character is rich
>Character has superpowers
>Character has my exact personality
Hell. Yes.
>>
My character is basically me, but unafraid of saying or expressing how miserable he really is.

Yes, because I get to become a powerful cute girl. I'll start a witch coven and get a cute girlfriend.
>>
>Gatekeeper Crystalline/Shardmind Swordmage
>Heavily specialized in teleporting
>Extremely good at all education-related skills

Sure, why not?

His personality was basically just me with a stronger dose of dry humor and detachment from mortal needs, so let's go hard. Heh. Get it? Because he's a rock.

Mind control spells and sixteen dice to throw at social problems.
My family might be a bit upset with me, but I'd go full media publicity and work towards being a miracle doctor with heal spells. Assuming I don't get carted off to a government dissection centre.
>>
my last character was a bookworm without many interesting or exotic skills, mainly there to prevent the game coming to a halt when a non-combat problem crops up

But yeah, probably. For the few bits of funky cybernetics and tech, if nothing else. With the side benefit of being a cute grill
>>
Epic level Mind control wizard with ranks in super warrior

>20 charisma
>20 luck
>20 inteligence
>20 strength
>20/20 senses
>20 sex
>20 fighting
>10 inch dick

Personality is the same as mine and everyone loves him and wants to follow him. Men are in awe and women become submissive at the sight of him.
jk i am a forever DM

Considering that the last campaign I was in ended with my charachter ascending into a God of knowledge I believe that I will take you up on that offer

>Totally-not-a-Witcher from a D&D homebrew campaign
I couldn't really do much with it, because I'm not the sort of person who can bring themselves to hurt anything larger than a bug. Yeah, I'm a pansy, deal wid it.

>Orc with shitty cybernetics and a big gun
Fuck that. I can get better guns nowadays.

Once in a while I wonder exactly what the people wanting to be the girl would do in real life, after just masturbating a few times and looking in the mirror for hours. There seems to be a bit of an idea that becoming a girl would automatically make you happier and grant you all the social privileges that could possibly be imagined, but in a realistic setting there really wouldn't be much to it. I'm pretty sure most of those people wouldn't want to have sex with men either, and with lesbian sex it's still a woman on the other end, except it gets a lot harder to get laid.
This is kind of an open question to the "becoming a chick is a bonus" people in this thread - why do you honestly think it would make your life better past the first few weeks? What could you do as a girl that you couldn't do as a guy, would you actually want to do it and would you keep on doing it after the novelty wears off?
I'm also not trying to be a Tumblrina, but while you do get a lot of privileges for being a woman in modern society, you pretty much have to cry "discrimination" all the time if you want the most out of it, and there are pros and cons to being a woman just like there are to being a man.
>>
>>46665289

No ty. I kinda like myself.
Plus, my current char is a illiterate bedouin with no particular skills aside from awesome combat moves, tracking and cooking.
Definitely not worth.
>>
That'd mean becoming a Goliath so I mean, either get gunned down and probed in a military base after accidentally breaking a kid's arm due to being challenged to a game of punchies or escaping to live alone in the Himalayas and bide time hoping there'd be some call to arms to stop others like me and they'd let me onto some cool specialist team so I could live out a cheesy superhero blockbuster.
>>
Considering I based his personality on mine and that he was basically my "fursona", oh how I hate that fucking word, and the end of the campaign saw him becoming a minor god, hell fucking yes I would.

Being a god and a 20th level spellcaster would be nice. Being an object of worship and adultion to the millions of furries, and others, would just be a nice perk.

>How would you actually, practically deal with it?
After the first week of adjustment to a new body and magical powers, getting a steady flow of soul energy going my way is going to be paramount if I wish to retain my divine spark and not slide down into just being a demigod with very limited power. Performing a few miracles, setting up a church, and quickly writing up a doctrine would be the first things to do. After that its just vying for worshippers in the marketplace of religion, but with the edge of having a physical and present god.
