May I ask what WoW has done to get everyone's panties in a bunch? They have started getting a general for setting discussion, and the MMO itself has been declining in popularity over time, and many people liken it's over-the-top high-fantasy stylings to Age of Sigmar, which has dredged up more salt than you could distill from the dead sea.
Is it just popular to bash it now? There's nothing objectively wrong with the art style amidst a million other artists and overall stylings, good and bad. What makes WoW-bashing the popular thing to do now?

Actually, there's a lot. It's a particularly hideous game with stylings that were outdated even when the game was new, and looks awful in every instance except for those that try to distance themselves as far away from actual WoW aesthetics.
Trying to say bashing WoW has only recently become "popular" is just showing off that you've had your head up your ass for quite some time. WoW has always deserved its fair measure of hate, from it's worthless lore to its mediocre gameplay to its ugly art style, and thinking it's so flawless that it's above criticism makes it clear that you're still clinging to the sinking ship that was a game that was the very definition of "popular because it was popular" before its bubble burst.

From a design standpoint, there are clear rules being broken, ultimately with little purpose and often simply out of the horrible interbreeding of bad artists, low poly-models, and the back-and-forth inspiration between the two while burdened with sacred cows.
You're right in that it's not strictly "objectively" awful. But, there's plenty that comes the very closest it can get to objectively wrong in a discussion of aesthetics.
