Civ/Evo/Builder Nations Game General

To discuss Evo, Civ and Builder/Nation Games, and to promote said games.

Question: What Evo, Civ and Nations Game do you miss the most?

>Technology: Exceptional
>Diplomacy: Struggle

>+Natural Armor (Small weapon resistance due to thick, tough skin)
>+Trample (Can trample smaller creatures for automatic bonus damage)
>+-Eidetic Memory (Bonus when researching or crafting; minor diplomatic penalty for condescending nature of Loxodons

any suggestions?

Just to clarify, just saying that it has happened before, and could possibly happen again.
>>
>>46509851
So yeah, I've got an Evo Game idea I'd like to run in the future, but let me pitch it to you guys first and get some advance feedback.

The Pit Evo Game
Why is it called The Pit? Because the only habitable place in the world is a roughly cylindrical, gigantic vertical hole in the ground of this hypothetical planet. To be kinda clear, let's divide this cylinder into ten levels, each roughly 10.000 km high. The pit itself is about 10.000 km in diameter. Counting from the bottom, level 1 to 3 is flooded with water. Level 4 to 9 contains breathable atmosphere. Level 10 (and maybe 10+/Roof?)'s atmosphere is too thin to breathe.

Each level gets differing sunlight too. Level 1 never receives any sunlight. Level 3 gains sunlight sometimes, so hardy algae might grow. Levels 5 to 7 gets a nice amount of sunlight. Levels 8 and up gets way too much sunlight.

There will be definitely caves that run deep into the crust beyond The Pit, which might develop into new ecosystems. The Pit's walls aren't smooth, there might be overhangs and ledges scattered all over.

What do you think about the setting? Is it good enough for an evo game?
>>
>>46517064
I recognize that name. Taking inspiration from DLQ, or am I just still fresh from an archive binge?

Realistically I question the science behind such a world, but the starting creatures can make it interesting.

I've been in DLQ, but the idea of The Pit came from a way older thread that I can't find in the archives about a cliff world.

So yeah, I might run The Pit this month.
>>
>>46519731
Commonly there's one of each of these niches:
-Herbivore
-Carnivore
-Omni/Scav/Detrivore
-A plant or two

So unless you have something that's unusual (like say, a species that eats magic, or eats rocks) you have 4-5 starter creatures.
>>
>>46519905
I mean old creature sets commonly reused for evos like the Braf, Bzol, Algae, Cerar and Mulu Set
>>
>>46519866

Thinking of running a Giant Civ as my first try at this.

Never ran civs before. Anons, do you want to see some rando make an ass out of himself today?
>>
>>46527201
Yes.
>>
>>46527118
And last thread everyone who called shenanigans against it had their posts deleted.
>>
>>46527235
Your sense of cruelty is real anon.

But I'll give it a shot if another anon wants to see it.
>>
What are your thoughts on a superciv, using the end of each non-extinct branch as starting animals from several old dead civs
>>
>>46527273
I'll have you know I graduated top of my class at Reality Check Tech. My sense of cruelty is astute.

I'd suggest considering a technological baseline. Avoid the first 20-25 posts being us trying to invent fire and loincloth.
>>
>>46527495
Makes sense. I've seen some civs treat tech as rewards for handling tough scenarios. Like leveling up really. Is that a good approach to take?
>>
>>46527531
Eh, personally, I think it's best if you keep it tied to some in-game representation. So something like loot, for example, by being able to search through bodies and wreckage of enemies for their tech, but have it still require some form of research, but maybe much faster than it would have been otherwise to research it from scratch.
>>
>>46527660
So say the Giants beat some Humans/whatever and capture some craftsmen.

Would it be logical for them to learn what he knows, or to roll to see how well the Giants adopt/master said craft?
>>
>>46527531
It seems an interesting mechanic, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket. I guess having it be represented by, well, reverse-engineering in the case of combat might be a good approach.

>>46527660
Also yes.

Like, you need some basis for your tech to develop rather than it just happening out of the blue.

>>46527729
It seems fairly logical, perhaps requiring a diplomacy roll or similar if the craftsmen are unwilling to teach.
>>
Seems like everyone has been doing gritty and egy stuff recently, where's the cute girls doing cute things at damn it
>>
>>46527855
You must've been gone when the sheepgirl civ was up.
>>
>>46527782
I see.

So, a culmination of just natural discovery, and exploitation of those who can teach/share?

Ex: Giants have been in war for the last few turns. After constantly fighting a certain race, they develop tactics against said race. (+Attack modifier)

Or

Ex: The Giants have been having excellent trade with the Dwarfs, and are willing to exchange technological secrets concerning smithing. For a price.
>>
>>46527883
Was it any good and is it dead
>>
>>46527921
That about sums it up, yeah.

I might have become a little blasé about other civ games where, say, agriculture is spontaneously developed without any cause to question if this was a viable line of research.
>>
>>46527978

>>46530191
Presumably they'd be like an anglerfishfolk civ, lure in prey via treasure or attractive woman and then attack them.
>>
>>46530088
Wouldn't they just essentially be a shapeshifting civ? Heavily reliant on subterfuge and trickery to accomplish their goals and agendas. Could be neat.
>>
>>46530298
Not him, but let me brainstorm a bit.
You don't start with, or make cities, but at the start get a selection of one out of several different cities of other races. The city chosen is the one you start out having a "network" in.

If a city has a network, it is essentially a shapeshifter city, and can be controlled indirectly, however it would require effort to expand this control over more things. At the start, the network would establish control over the underground criminal network, and reach out only to corrupt politicians and court officials.

Depending on what the players choose to focus on, the network of shapeshifters that make up their civilization can focus on tightening their grip on the underworld, establishing expansive and convoluted merchant monopolies through shadow guilds and banking cartels, or systematically begin replacing high ranking politicians up to and including the nobility.

Of course it would be possible to eventually do everything, but it would take a long time and a lot of resources, and with other cities on the horizon it would end up requiring focusing on a single city or branching out to create a more decentralized network of control and manipulation.

>>
>>46530608
Of course, and I think this goes unnoticed a lot, there would need to be a similarly sneaky opponent or regular threat to keep things interesting. Otherwise it's just illuminati sandbox simulator and the players would run out of things to do.

Something like paladins trying to root out corruption, wizards seeing through your disguises with high-end magic spells, illithid conspiracies competing for your shadow-government real estate, mystic cults trying to cast spells of mind control over the populace, all threatening to destroy, steal, or otherwise free the city of wage-slave political and economic puppet man-cattle your shadowy shapeshifting civilization manipulates to survive.

The players would end up having to juggle a number of strange, freaky, and downright unbelievable conspiracies ranging from inside job terror attacks, assassinations, smuggling rings, banking cartels, and the strange web that ties them all together into a working abomination of a shadow network while dozens of other factions and independant operators bungle over each other's' operations while trying to do their own sneaky things.
