Do you ever play dwarf characters?
Why, think long and hard about the answer, just why?
Yes, but only a couple times. The first one wasn't very dwarfy, but the second one was. The first one was an Earth Elementalist and the second one was an Arcane Mechanik set in Iron Kingdoms.
I'd actually like to write a book or graphic novel about my own interpretation of dwarves sort of like James Stokoe's interpretation of orcs through Orc Stain.

Yes. In 4e they had some awesome hammer feats and the speed penalty wasn't that crippling - Dwarven Warden was a fun build.

I play dwarves all the time.

Because I like surviving.
I like tanking. I like being able to take whatever gets tossed my way and keep going. They make great fighters, great clerics, great berserkers, great druids, and even great "lockpickers". I also like the idea of having a "home base" or safe haven out there somewhere where the character can retire or rest, and dwarves practically have those build into their RP.

Do you not like Dwarves, OP? I feel like if I were a real-life dwarf, I'd probably be flattered by their contemporary depiction, but only if people didn't try to stereotype me as one IRL. I mean, they can be covetous and paranoid and stubborn, but they're also badass motherfuckers. They're incredibly skilled craftsmen, have very noble ideals, and are generally more fully developed as a culture than elves, who are just aloof and poised—or halflings, who are just small people with some sense about how life should be lived. Why wouldn't I play a dwarf?

yes, I like to play mountain manlets roaming the high country on my stubby little legs.
I'll almost always play a human, unless I have a specific idea for a character of another race in my mind. There is so much more you can do as a human, because while a Chaotic Evil dwarf or a Lawful Good Orc is usually lore breaking, a human can be any alignment if it makes sense.

Guns don't work as well under ground because of stench of the gunpowder travels quite far in tight tunnels.
Also a weapon that operates on a principle of creating sparks is a serious hazard if there's methane pockets and the like.

Dwarves are a great race, lots of give and take. Most of their culture is rich and vibrant, it makes for a well constructed PC.

I don't play dwarves very often, but they're pretty fun depending on the setting. I played a bard in a generic fantasy mishmash setting, which was pretty fun, and a barbarian in the setting my group made, where the dwarves are bourgeoisie British mafia.
They were both pretty fun, gave me a chance to practice my terrible scottish accent, and sometimes a good time just means playing a walking brick with a superbeard that's covered in alcohol.

I love dwarfs but rarely play them as I tend to make WIS or CHA focused characters. 4e changed that so probably 2/5 of my characters were dwarfs (2/5 were half-elf and 1/5 "other").

My current character is a dwarf rouge because I don't have any experience with role playing and I figured a sterotypical dwarf would be easy and fun to RP as. Also the image of a grumpy, prideful dwarf skulking through the shadows and pickpocketing people amused me.
I played a dwarf once. I played him as a ISO standard dorf. Sacartic, drunk being a dick to elves. Why? Because it was a game with old friends and we all decided to make annoying characters to troll each other.
Rest of the party included a manic depressive elf, one ISO standard elf (and a dick to the dwarf), a gnome george carlin would qualify as an old fuck, a young rogue everybody nicknamed "the little shit", a stuck up not-british lord of a paladin and a cleric who was wondering WTF she was doing with us.
Im down with dwarves. More so because ive changed their average height to 4-10 to 5'2

Because in shadowrun 3rd ed they're pretty good all-rounders with some nice racial abilities. Free IR vision and poison resistance + slightly enhanced strength and body gives you a nice starting block and allows you to take lots of money and abilities
