Appearance is an aspect of Charisma, just like holding your breath is an aspect of Constitution. It's not the end all be all, but it plays a part.
Politicians with ugly appearances typically had to rely on intelligence and cunning in order to be successful, and political success is only one aspect of charisma as well.
There are bizarre monsters that are ugly but have high charisma, but they typically have some way to compensate for their appearance, and there's also all sorts of fringe rule oddities, like Stone Golems being able to swim better than humans.
I think that's all that needs to be said.

Not really, but I'm not a fan of people making their characters beautiful with an abysmal charisma.

In my table it's generally agreed that prettier people have higher charisma, but the opposite is not necessarily true.

Not technically. But you could say that some of your characters charisma comes from the fact that they are attractive. Inversely you could say the opposite was true, that your poor charisma comes from being ugly.
Alternatively there are such a thing as awkward and shy good looking people, and extremely well spoken ugly people.
A character "being attractive" or "being ugly" are really just backstory or roleplay fluff that have no bearing whatsoever on gameplay whatsoever. Even then you can usually use much more descriptive language to describe a characters appearance then just good looking or bad looking.

I'm sure we can ask think of someone who is rather ugly, but who has a great following and also someone who is beautiful, but whom we'd never follow a thing they say.
Senator Palpatine and most any super model come to mind respectively (Palpatine gathered quite the following both pre and post disfigurement, and many people don't really take model's opinions about anything seriously, especially not during pageants).
If I had to equate physical beauty with the generic 6 scores, it would have to be an average of Con and Cha. However, even that isn't good enough.

Beauty is one of the factors that goes into charisma, but not the only one and far from the most important.
Charisma just means "how you make other people do what you want". It might be manipulativeness, a forceful personality, a subtle wit or a low cunning. It might be a disarming smile, legs that don't quick and dick for days, sure, but calling it a purely physical thing is over-simplifying.
