So where did GW get the inspiration for Lucius the Eternal from?
I really like the character and just wondered if they ripped it from somewhere or if it was an actual original creation.

I definitely think Lucius is one of, if not the, best unique character from a flavor standpoint.
My *personal* favorite is Ahriman though. A sorcerer so ambitious that he means to make himself a god and usurp Tzeentch, his own patron, who just looks at this and says "I like this kid, he's got Moxie!" and makes him his chosen champion.

I think Lucius is just the logical conclusion of the concept of of self obsession. The name is vaguely Roman, though.
My favorite is Honsou, for a couple reasons. 1: He's just so delightfully evil and cruel, as a proper Chaos Lord should be. 2: The first 40k book i ever read was Storm of Iron, where I decided that the Iron Warriors would forever be my chosen Chaos legion.

Fuck the heretics, there isn't a single fucking interesting character among them left by M41. Kharn is more one dimensional than even a shit-tier bolter porn black library space marine, having no character left besides being an avatar of rage who can't even fucking die. Lucius is a god damned coward who doesn't even have any fucking right to be a champion- his most distinctive action is getting BTFO on a regular basis. Typhus is a god damn traitor who sold out his Primarch and Legion purely to increase his power. Ahriman fucked up royally and continues to fuckup on a regular basis instead of just accepting his Legion is dead and leaving their poor souls alone.
Meanwhile the actually interesting guys, namely the Prince of Crows, vanished after the Horus Heresy and are likely dead. The only guys left are either one dimensional, scumbags by even chaos standards, or fucking useless pussies.
What Chaos needs is pic related. An Iron Warrior to usurp Abaddon and take over the role of Warmaster and to pursue the true goal of the Chaos Space Marine- to conquer mankind with the powers of Chaos bound to his will, not the other way around. The Iron Warriors are the only Legion that truly understands Chaos. Chaos is not to be worshiped or allied with. Chaos is to be enslaved by man.

While the Inquisitor might have just been ignorant about Space Marine genetic modifications and customs, and acted rashly, is there any indication their cannibalism is actually a 100% not okay and heretical thing? To not engage in a bit of Dwarf Fortress/Elder Scrolls elf action seems like a waste of the omophagea. If I was a Chapter Master or or Chaplain of a new chapter I'd make a huge important custom of a squad eating their sergeant should he die in battle, or specialists eating the brains of their dead comrades or masters to help reinforce the knowledge of how to snipe/use heavy weapons/be a techmarine etc.

He has almost no lore, but those few lines are just awesome.
He made a Black Crusade, like Abaddon's ones, but he pass Cadia.
Only one God on his side, a small army, a power armor and no primarch's weapons, but still it was believed to be the next Abaddon.
So corrupted dead people scream around him. Freaking corpses scream because he's nearby!
Also, it required and entire heavy weapon regiment to kill him.

It should also be noted that consuming the flesh of those that have been chaos corrupted can cause chaos corruption (it's happened to Kroot before) so I don't think the Inquisitor was being rash, I think she was acting rationally upon realizing that they have been eating chaos cultists for a long time.
