What would happen to the grey beards in this scenario? Also, why so much support for the crabs? I thought not much was known about them outside of knowing they used to rule in a previous Kalpa or something similar.

Side question: what do the Sloan think of mudcrabs? Are they like cats to the sload?
>>
>>46442966
Sload don't feel affection.
>>
>>46442966
>What would happen to the grey beards in this scenario?
They'd sit up in their temple being smug until they get soundnuked by the dwemer or die of a sload bio-weapon and turn into zemblers. Parthy would probably cry.

And sload hate mudcrabs. They hate everything. Even eachother.

Favorites:
>Bretons
Half-elves that aren't snowflakes, because race made from racemixing not just one-offs. Magically resistant. Have a strong tradition of warriors, so they're not just mages all the time, and can balance an artistic and poetic side with that of a warrior. Have a rather normal culture, but have hints at being more exotic because of their close contact with various cultures. Probably have cute women. Also get to enjoy a lot of trade and naval adventures.

>Khajiit
Loveable fuckers. Their mindset and attitude towards life and the world appeals to me, as both down-to-earth in its wisdom and lighthearted and cheeky. They way they were shown in Skyrim especially appeals to me, as very comfy merchants and friendly gypsies. I'm probably not the only man who'd want to cuddle a Khajiit girl.

>Dunmer
Strong willed and passionate in many ways. Interesting and unique multi-faceted culture. Not treated like elves are usually treated - they've had their grand culture smashed, but it's actually affecting them pretty badly and not just a pretext for sadness. Cute women. Interesting worship of Daedra, when normally they're considered evil by outlanders.

Least favorites:
>Argonians
I just can't love them like others do. One side of the lore makes them too human, the other much too inhuman. Alienness isn't my draw. They also aren't given much of a culture, despite a lot of hintings. Dino-lizards also aren't my thing.

>Altmer
Mostly because the Thalmor were the strongest organization made up of Altmer that I remember. All the others were scattered and didn't act too different from people of other races. When that's your big impression of a race as a whole, it's hard to get past. Bit too snooty and generic high-elf for me.

>Sload
They're an entire race that's just mean. Even politeness and friendships are just tools for them. A very interesting race, but not one I can enjoy.
>>
>>46443054
Why isn't the dwemer on your least favorite list? They are arguably more mean than the sload and are the definition of anti-comfy.

Was anyone else disappointed that they brought back the old khajiit voice for ESO? I liked the one from Skyrim and Redguard personally as opposed to the VELKUM from the other games.

>>
>>46443577
Of course not. There's families, which is not the same as a clan, which is not the same as a house.
>>
>>46443535
I guess it depends on how you interpret the term House. Technically a clan of substantial size could be a minor house without being THE Minor Houses, which is further complicated by the fact that a lot of the Houses came from clans with familial bloodlines.

So I could be full of shit. Or not.

Right. The problem is while there's a good distinction between a house (family) and a Great House (political party) they never give a real distinction between a minor house and a great house. I'm gonna assume a minor house and a great house is like the difference between the green party and the democrats, or another small party and one of the two major parties.
>>
>>46443564
Funny thing, Drenim are afflied with Telvanni and Retheran are with Redoran. And both families have an execution writ given on one of their members.
I guess these two still can't let go of their feud.

>>46443709

Khajiit girl sadness is real. And the last cute Breton woman I remember was that lady in Morrowind who fell in love with a thief.

>>46443416
Check the river tribes. They're probably strong.

That's part of why my dislike of ESO is personal - it glossed over the few unique things about the Bretons for the sake of an MMO. Thousands of kingdoms can't possibly be represented, the different cultures and craziness gets lost.

Well, if it was at least the size of Skyrim, we could have the Bjoulae river at least make an appearance, sort of like the Reachmen, and you could have a couple of culturally different kingdoms. You might not be able to get any serious detail, but at least it would be there. But an MMO across all of Tamriel gives a lot less space to work with, and with hundreds of other races and cultures to include that were better represented in other games and would be sorely missed...

>>46443935
They're not bad, per se. I just usually can't tell them apart from Imperials, Nords, or even lightly tanned Redguards.

In fairness, the Khajiit have a literal oral tradition in that they gain knowlage from their mother's milk. They don't have much need for books, and Words of Clan Mother Ahnissi was really the only Khajiiti literature aside from Rajhin's tales and Ahzirr Traajijazeri to be seen outside of Elsweyr.
>>

Really, I find the distinction to be pretty obvious.
Their face and body is thin, and looks more elven. In Oblivion, they have rounder features, and in Skyrim, they return to having soft, heart shaped faces.
Imperials are far duskier, and tend to have pointy faces.Instead of high cheekbones, they tend to stick out of their skull.
Nords tend to have exaggerated, almost Aryan-propaganda like features. Broad chin, high and gaunt cheeks, and wide jaws. Plus, there's a huge height difference.

I am really good with faces, though, so it might just be me.

The Dominion is going to be disastrous for the Khajiit. Not only because they're subservient to the Thalmor, but because they've been forced away from nearly everything Khajjiti society is supposed to be about. I truly believe that everything that has happened in Elsweyr in the Fourth Era is slowly pushing them towards a depth I don't know if they'll ever really recover from.
This is going to get into speculation area, but I hope you get my point, and that I haven't made too many mistakes.

No race has an affinity with the moons in the same way the Khajiit have. Now, there's some uncertainty about what exactly this relationship means, for they are a secretive people, but it's clear that it's there. The Khajiit need the moons, and should the moons fail, the Khajiit believe that they must set them right. So the Void Nights wasn't only a social and religious trauma, it was also in a sense one of their greatest failures.
>"The Khajiit must be the best climbers, for if Masser and Secunda fail, they must climb Khenarthi's breath to set the moons back in their courses."
Yet when the moons did fail, there was nothing the Khajiit could do about it. I think it's hard to underestimate the failure of the secret defenders.

Then we have the death of the Mane. Now, the Mane was an entity that though mortal in some sense, appears godlike in others. He's not just a ruler and a spiritual leader, but almost an embodiment of Khajiiti faith. He might have been with the Khajiit since their birth as a race, and whenever things have broken down, the Mane has been there to set it right. When the surprising harmony that seems to characterize Khajiiti society is broken, he sets everything right, and does so in accordance to the moons.
He's dead now. Gone. Possibly forever.
>>
>>46445590
Suuuure it was, and the Clockwork City was really a gigantic computer that could store his mind.

Even assuming that was true, how do we know the city wasn't broken? Or that he managed to upload himself before he was killed? Or even that the upload worked?
>>
>>46445590
Well congratulations, he got himself killed! so what's the next step of his master plan?

The dissolution of Elsweyr back into to kingdoms goes against everything the Khajiit seem to be about, namely harmony. Let me expand upon this. Two things that appear to be constant factors in Khajiiti society is the multitudes of everything, and the fact that these multitudes so often work harmoniously together. The Khajiit live in large family-tribes or clans, because it is the only way to raise their children. They're all different, yet they work together, and there's no discrimination based off form. When north and south united to form Elsweyr, peace was eventually found not by removing multitude, but by harmoniously sharing power based on the phases of the moons. In the early First Era, a similar situation existed, where sixteen relatively peaceful kingdoms all lived well in multitude, and shared their power also in accordance to the movements of the moons.
Elsweyr goes through these cycles of harmonious co-existence and internal conflict, but it's apparent that the first appears to be the way things "should" be. Splitting them up entirely goes against this.
There's a possible metaphysical tie-in here, but it's stretching it a bit far.

They have no history of standing armies in the sense that other provinces have, nor have they been very expansionist (unless you're Bosmer, then you can go fuck yourself). I doubt that the Thalmor will let this stand, and I expect them to have drafted Khajiiti regiments.

And lastly, the Khajiit are fiercely independent, yet the Dominion was nearly welcomed in. This speaks volumes of how much that has gone wrong for the Khajiit, to drive them to this point. They've failed as defenders, undergone a religious and social crisis, lost their wise, ideal and loving leader, and seemingly gladly accepted shackles. And when the Dominion came, they made it so that Elsweyr was broken in two, and the Riddle-T'har made impossible.

I mean, Beth could always go "And then the Empire won and everything was alright and the Cats all stopped doing drugs because Skooma is just sweet water and they all became loyal Imperial citizens the end, also catgirls don't real", but I don't really feel like that's going to happen.
I worry about the cats, /tgesg/. Things are going to get really uncomfy.

I'd argue the first idea is okay, up until the lategame assassinations. Would a player seriously want to level up if there was a risk of death without a chance to fight back? If it was something like the Tribunal DLC's Dark Brotherhood, that might be worthwhile.

The second idea is also horrible for a gameplay perspective, because it would mean that the player would be forced to complete the main quest and the civil war quest within fifty to a hundred days. What's the point of a sandbox game if you don't get to play how you'd want to?

The opposing faction idea is gold, expect for the fact that TES has no way to really handle such situations aside from perhaps disguising yourself. And I wouldn't want to lug around some Imperial armor just so that I could do business in Solitude now and again.

Hardcore mode is great.
>>
>>46448513
>Would a player seriously want to level up if there was a risk of death without a chance to fight back?
It would turn out one of two ways:
1), the assassins are too weak to actually be a threat, and actually just become a pointless hassle.
2), the assassins are dangerous, which just means that every time you want to level up, you need to save beforehand, and perhaps savescum. It's going to get boring real fast.
Would have worked as a response to something you did, but as a random chance it's just kind of shit.

>>
>>46448513
Of course it would be an excuse for combat rather than random RNG death. The second idea could be fine as long as they handled the consequences properly It also doesn't have to be a game ending time limit. Village X could be blown up after Y days and shit like that. Something measured. You can also just make the time limit noticeable but still really long like in Fallout, it puts some need for urgency in the player's mind while still being really easy to not fuck up.

>Besides, it's not like he's actually done anything wrong.

This is both true and not true. Truth is complicated, but it's quite likely that Todd Howard was (indirectly) responsible for "genericization" of lore and stuff.

Although, the ones you should blame it are those random designer and artist guys that Bethesda added in roster after Morrowind. They don't talk much and aren't famous, but they're the ones who do most the design. These are the guys that people should go bashing with full force because it would be probably easier to influence them. It's only a part of the problem that Todd okays them, but Todd is bit simple guy (despite being brilliant doing business), so he likes shit tier generic stuff and thinks senseless violence is cool. His far too easily impressed by mediocre and boring things if they're flashy enough. Good thing is that Todd mostly loves weird lore too, so getting better designers inside Bethesda could fix a lot of things.

Btw it was actually Ken Rolston (of awesome Morrowind fame) who fucked up Oblivion. Unbelievable I know, but it's the sad truth.

Ps.
I'm not even going to blame him for casualization of TES games because vasualization isn't really part of the problem. You can make casual consoleshit thatäs awesome just look at KoTOR Shitlords or New Vegas.
>>
What happened to oreyn after oblivion?
>>
>>46448612
Well, they speak of the truth technically. Playing when you're low level is more fun and leveling tickles the reward system in your head. This combined with too fast leveling that Morrowind has makes our hero's journey quite sad because by the time he has explorer less half of the world he will have maxed up levels and thus will get no simple rewards for continuing his quests.

I'm glad there are mods that make leveling much slower.
>>
>>46448432
>Does anyone know why they shifted from their original idea for Arena to what they made?
Because they figured out that the engine they were using for simple gladiator fights allowed grand epic RPG adventure.
>>
>>46449175
I haven't had that problem outside of Fallout 3 actually. Even with DLCs, and avoiding the perk that increases experience gained, I didn't get to do half of what I wanted to do before I was at level 20 and everything was too easy.

By the time I reached close to max level in Oblivion, I was happy - I'd done the main quest, a fair part of several side quests and questlines, and I was ready to start a new kalpa.
>>
>>46449499
>By the time I reached close to max level in Oblivion, I was happy - I'd done the main quest, a fair part of several side quests and questlines, and I was ready to start a new kalpa.

Well, it works fine if you have philosophy like that.

Personally, I have completionist tendencies bordering on OCD. I'm that guy who does every quest, looks into every cave and wants to collect all magic items in game. Just feels so good when you achieve full 100% completion with single character.
>>
>>46449815
I find going full 100% to be so difficult to do that it's not really worth my time. Especially since in a TES game, I'm probably going to roleplay a little bit or have some things I won't do. I wouldn't take the Dark Brotherhood questline along with the Thieves Guild, because the Thieves Guild is specific about not murdering while the Dark Brotherhood is. And going both Mages Guild and Thieves Guild would be tricky, because of what skills you really need to do well in each.
>>
>>46449913
I actually do both roleplaying and ocd-completionism. Really good games like original Fallout usually have it so that every quest can be done in various ways. Morrowind is pretty good on this too except for main quest that sucks for having only imperial starting option.

Ofcourse with Oblivion and Skyrim it becomes harder. I hate it how those games won't even try prevent you from joining conflicting guilds.

>cephalopod helm is much cooler headwear for a wizard than a pointy hat
Damn straight.
>>
>>46452170
It probably honestly is engine-limitations. How many hats and helmets or other headwear can you wear where you can still see your hair? Not many. I don't know why that is, I've just noticed the pattern.
>>
>>46452199
Not to start an anti-oblivion debate, but with how generic-fantasy it was why didn't they have a wizard hat?
It doesn't have the cephalopod either, but that's not my issue here
Hoods are nice, but I just want hats, doesn't necessarily have to be the typical wizarding hats
>>
>>46452199
Pointy hats can be really good if done well.

That is true, but that doesn't one from making wizard hats really. Such mods do exist and they have managed to have hair with those. In case of Morrowind having hair with helmets is tehnically impossible though, unless the helmet acts as hair.
>>
>>46452126
They're all in Highrock, with The Sage.
>>
>>46452249
Well, how many wizard hats are mention in the lore? There would be pretty much zero cultural background for such hat style to be included. Oblivion despite being generic as fuck stayed pretty close to lore. Really only thing they drastically changed is making cyrodiil "european" instead of a jungle.
>>
>>46452281
>unless the helmet acts as hair.
That's exactly what they do
But in skyrim mods make the hat a circlet which seems to circumvent the issue

Is that a Breton? Why is the hair rolled up in the back? What's the mod for the clothes?
>>
>>46452341
No idea on wizard hat and shirt (aside it looking like basically reskin of vanilla clothes), but the skirt seems to be from Unique Jewelry and Accessories.
>>
>>46452253
Agreed. The best things for a traveler are some warm robes for the weather, a wide brimmed hat for the sun, and a staff for hiking.
>>46452216
>>46452199
A cool as Cephalopod helmets are, they don't seem very comfortable. It would be like wearing a highly enchanted gas-mask made from lobster shell.
>>
>>46452341
Breton hair is weird in Morrowind, since you basically have a few balding and monkish looks, a ponytail, and two colors of a sort of odd triangular shape. If that's modded vanilla hair, that's probably trying to make do with what the triangle hair might be.
>>
>>46452414
A wizard in case of TES wouldn't really need to worry about that as magic can easily fix that. Too hard to breath? You can hold your breath with magic, even constantly if needed. Too heavy? Feather or fortify strength. Don't see enough? Detection spells or even some mystic fuckery that I remember being in the lore, but are too lazy to look up.

Also, main point why Cephalopods are so good for a wizard, is that they're so enchantable. Considering that in lore enchanting is even more fucked up than in game, I'd think in "reality" they can take much more enchantments (which could be used to make them comfy) than game mechanics would imply.

It's rolled up because that's how the mod makes it seem like hair, but it's just part of the hat. The mod I use only has one hair style, but you can choose the hair color when you equip different hats.

What the hell happened to Ebonarm? He hasn't been mentioned since Daggerfall.

Did they just replace him with Talos in the lore?
>>
>>46452518
He got retconned out.
>>
>>46452314
They could easily just say it's new apparel from a new sect in [current game location].
Even then, I can't believe colovian fur helms exist but generic cone hats or some variation of sack hats dont, those are just basic clothing inventions, like a one-piece robe
They could also justify not entioning it because it's so basic it's just not written about

The thing I really like about them is that, for half of them, you can see the purpose behind them. Protecting from the sun, dust storms, rain, stuff like that.

Morrowind is an incerible exercise at worldbuilding. One best built settings I have seen due to it's believably constructed culture. I mean even most of basic clothes you see people wearing have "hidden" (game doesn't mention them, but they're there) cultural and factional meanings.

I haven't played enough of the game yet to guess at what you mean. Some things are obvious, like most foreigners and Hlaalu nobles wearing Imperial style clothing.

But overall, Morrowind is a beautifully designed setting, like you said. It's such a great setting that really makes the story and such work as well as it does - you wouldn't believe how many games couldn't make me care about what they presented with me with.

Then I get a happy feeling as I realize how many of these things are so easy, because they really are just little details. A little mixing and matching, tucking something from one culture amidst clothing made up of another, and you have something exotic and interesting and beautiful.
>>
>>46453109
I meant little thing the Temple robes having priestly writing on them (don't remember what it said, but it was relevant) and the fact that Great Houses kinda have their own clothing styles, it's even possible to identify (in most cases, not always) to which Great House an NPC belongs just by looking at clothes.

On the contary there are "wormgod" pipes and two Dwemer books that are confirmed to be gibberish, but those are only blatant examples worldbuilding shortcuts that came to mind. Even Dwemer ruin names actually have something like a "language" behind them, but no one has quite figured it out fully.

Anyway, this reminds me that I wish someone could finally decipher Hlaalu treasury report. It's funny how such seemingly insignifant document has resisted attempts at decryption while everything else has been deciphered.

>>46453215
Samefagging here, but forgot to mention that Morrowind clothing even has it's House affiliation marked in construction set. For example "extravagant_robe_01_r", "r" stands for Redoran and it's the robe worn by such as individuals as Athyn Sarethi.
>>
>>46453306
Also a separate set of clothes for Morag Tong, different styles for dunmer and colonist common clothes etc.
And don't get me started on belts.
>>
>>46442752
I mean they would win by default because no one would want/have the ability to take the interior of their shithole of a province. They got btfo by the redoran and this was after red year and the Oblivion Crisis

It's pretty menacing with all those tacticool pouches, all right.

Still, I wonder what's the purpose of red jewel, but probably just decoration because it's common robe with bad enchantability. Interestingly red jewel appears on other Morag Tong stuff too.
