>yfw you're a destroyer and everyone thinks you're edgy just because your is black and your tools of the trade Sub-Edition

Last time on Horus Heresy G debates on dreadnought patterns were had, trench guns are edgy to WWI era Germans, and Iron Hand legionaries with questionable taste in fashion were also seen. Old thread >>46423400

Can you get high on isopropyl alcohol while painting Alpha Legion? I need to know.

I now imagine a very cheery and friendly Destroyer who talks about the merits of phosphex quad launchers while the opposition is still roasting below.

I'm just curious cuz the fucking stuff creates more vapor than anything else I've used, my hobby room turns foggy in extremely short time and I can't cycle the air out fast enough.

The inside of my nose also turned blue. Through a filter mask.

I only painted like 2 sample models to test the paints.

How long has been passed since the Terran reunification started and Heresy began? IIRC one SoH veteran dude got half-deaf from getting old but other Terran fellows seems fine, so I wonder.
>>

200 years with Ullanor happening around the 150 year mark.
>>
>>46441758

According to FW and BL Ullanor was only 4 years before the HH. Fucking Horus fucking everything up in 4 four fucking years
>>
So I'm trying to make an IF/ IW buddy-buddy list, and I'm trying to figure out my Rites. If a RoW doesn't allow allied detachments, it's still allowed to take that RoW in the allied detachment instead of the primary one right?

For example:
Stone Gauntlet can take allies
Hammerfell Strike Force can't
The Ironfire can't
The Hammer of Olympia

So I could do an IF primary detachment with Stone Gauntlet RoW, then grab IW secondary detachment with The Ironfire, right?
>>
>>46441929
You could but you could also do Shattered legion.

>>
>>46441780
Monarchia was 150 years - lots of sources say it took 50 years of word bearer shitting up
The problems with this is that some primarchs got found near the end so timings are weird
In general a planet was conquered in 3 years from planning and prep to certification of compliance
However that may include small asteroids and planets that are part of larger empires so some compliance fleets have >100 planets

IF with IW allies can only lead to trouble. Nuffle will punish you for the flavourfail.
>>
>>46441951
Thanks for suggesting Shattered Legions. I only knew the broadest strokes (multiple LA rules in one detachment) but didn't realize the specifics of their rules.

"The Whole is Greater than the Sum" is pretty neat, they could use each others' vehicles and have IC join one another if they're treating each other as Sworn Bros.

The Rites thing means I can choose Hammerfall Strike Force and deep-strike in my Iron Warrior units too, but I think because of the wording I can't have my Imperial Fists ride the Ironfire along with their IW brothers. I might ask my mates if they wouldn't mind letting it work that way.

They didn't. Fulgrim, Guilliman, Sanguinius, Vulkan, and Dorn loved them. I'm not so sure on Khan and Leman, but besides Autek Ferrus probably loved them as much as Ferrus could.

I could do with some opinions for my Imperialis Militiaa /hhg/. My Imperial Army forces are a Terran Regiment of Japanese Soldiers (Because we need more non-white people in 30k), but while I have the fluff for them down pat and most of the model materials gathered, I have no idea how to translate that into crunch, what weapons to arm them with or how to organize them, either as a shooty army, a melee horde or what. Anyone have any ideas
>>
>>46443575

to be honest, i'd go with the traditional Japanese set up, and BANZAI everythin
>>
>>46443377
Either Horus was an expert at playing hide and seek, or Big E got some hardy boys from Cthonia before he made the Primarchs and figured that Horus's geneseed would fit.
>>
>>46443575
>we need more non-white people in 30k

>>
>>46441873
Yeah that's my biggest complaint with the timeline of both the GC and the HH; it's too stuffed.
Let Horus be warmaster for several decades, let the galactic civil war drag on
>>
IIRC Loken declared themselves a Luna Wolves once again in Galaxy in Flames. Garro Legion of One cover has Loken wearing LW white armor as well.

But Loken model painting & HH book 1 SoH loyalist illustration depict them wearing SoH green armor.

>>
>>46442655
>>46443377
>>46443616
Horus states that he had roots "on both Cthonia and Terra".
As we know that Cthonia was so close to Terra that you could reach it via sublight travel presumably his parents left Cthonia to get to Terra and that's where he was recruited
>>
>>46443575
Anon, thousands of years into the future from now probably won't have races as we know then to be.
>crunch
If they fail their morale tests kamikaze time?
>>46441873
What a Primarch.
>>
>>46443656

Yeah, you'd think they'd of dragged out the HH to last like 2 centuries as well just so they can keep making stories about it. But I agree, have Horus be Warmaster for like 50 years before he gets all chaos-y.
>>
>>46443710
That's my problem- they pump out stories but the timeline stays the same so you have people teleporting across half the galaxy
>>
>>46443683
I could live with that.
>>
>>46443710
Imagine if 40k lore didn't have logistic issues.
>>
>>46443734
Can't people litterally teleport across the galaxy in 30/40k?
>>
>>46444073
Yes but teleporting can be tricky. You can in up inside boulders, becoming a screaming face on the floor, stuck inside of the walls, never come back, and possibly worse.
>>
>>46442817
Rumor has it that the 19th Legion was more Kurzey than Coraxey. They were in the same vein as Corax and used similar tactics, but Corax had been a rebel and the 19th were ruthless rebel smashers.
>>
>>46444266
That was sort of the case. They spent too much time with Horus, had lodges, and fought that wasn't being a sneaky beakie. All of these things plus being too cruel for Corvus was like an Anon seeing a 40k general with bait beyond bait.
>>
>>46444358
>All of these things plus being too cruel for Corvus was like an Anon seeing a 40k general with bait beyond bait.
And actually having the power to do something about it.
>>
How many of the original Terrans did corax end up sending away? Could they recruit new marines after they'd left? I ask because I'm fluffing up a battalion that has a few Terrans rejoin it after Isstvan and want to know if they'd all be Terrans or what
>>
>>46444415
He became a mod and brought down the banhammer.
>>46444421
Now that I think about it they did rush the gates at that one planet where the beakie armor was tested so probably no more than say 5000~. It did reduce the legion's numbers to 95,000.
>>
Reading HH novels, but being a non-native English speaker sometimes it's hard to comprehend the meaning behind the lines.

What is the meaning of "Kill for the living, kill for the dead?" Who are the living, and who are the dead in this case?
>>
>>46444717
they mean kill to protect the living, kill to avenge the dead
>>
>>46443659

Considering the revived Luna Wolves came about in the middle of the purge at Isstvan III, it's doubtful any of the Loyalists had time to re-paint their armour white and alter their insignia.

Whatever survivors remained afterwards, now free from distractions like virus bombing, traitor kill teams, and angry primarchs, had the time and supplies to make meaningful changes to their appearance.

The same applies to the Death Guard, if I remember correctly. The 'revived panoply of the Dusk Raiders' only came about after Isstvan III, among that battle's survivors and DG Loyalists from other parts of the galaxy.
>>
>>46441105
Does anyone know where and what are the rules for monstrous creatures riding in superheavies?

I seem to recall that possibly being apocalypse-only, but that wouldn't matter in this case I think
>>
>>46444909
MCs can't ride in transports unless they have rules stating otherwise. Some transports have rules for transporting stuff like dreadnoughts, tanks and/or automata, but unless it's mentioned you can't do it.
>>
>Crysos Morturg has Master of ambush trait from the WH 40k rulebook (three units gain infiltrate)

I'm thinking about the mother of all death stars, Pert (very bulky), his Iron Circle (must be 4+ to join Pert) and the Tormenter (nominal transport capacity 15)

Though I guess being embarked wouldn't be the best, what with it being a shadowsword with no firing points.

The minimum cost of this stupid huge death star would be 1775 points, and that's without Forgebreaker and the minimum number of Domitars

>>
>>46445773
What's this, the Primarch of ANTS?
>>
>>46442736
It's because Primarchs grew up on their own worlds and built their own bases of followers, and Terran members of their legion represent a 5th column.
>>
>>46445695
99% sure you can't embark the Iron Circle guys in the transport. Things that can transport MCs have specific rules that allow them to do so, like the upgrade you can buy for the Arvus Lighter that lets you carry a single Castellax or up two two Vorax. Super Heavy Transports don't have anything generic that would apply to his special snowflake Shadowsword.

I do kind of understand why you'd want to do that, though. The Iron Circle is just way too fucking slow for how much it costs to make that unit. It's the main weakness of all automata (except for the Arlatax), but at least with Castellax you can mitigate it by fielding multiple units and getting up to the middle of the board eventually. Domitar-Ferrum cost so much that you're only going to have one of 'em and it's gonna be half your list.
>>
>>46445823

Get him on board, I'll call it in.
>>
>>46445859

There's no doubt that if they can't embark, FW will release something to let them get on board as well.

Cassian Vaughn, the Terran guy who commanded the Salamanders before they found Vulkan was a goddamn hero to the legion and was mortally wounded just as they were united. He's the guy that became Cassian Dracos after Vulkan personally built him the best damn boxnought chassis there ever was - so good it survived getting impaled by dozens of lascannons and getting glassed by a titan at Isstvan V, repaired itself, and eventually turned into Cyborg Box Jesus that could mind control any robots or cyborgs in the area (although the in-game version of the rule is orders of magnitude less powerful than it is in the narrative).

Honestly I actually prefer most of the retcons and concepts in the HH series. I find the fleshing out of the characters and events of the most interesting period of 40k to be better not worse. And little stuff like "Pharos alerted the tyranids to our galaxy" really doesn't bother me, maybe I'm not autistic enough.

As for which retcons bother me the most, Pious being a perpetual instead of a normal guardsmen probably. And this from someone who likes the perpetual-cabal angle of things.

What if I do multiple Legions?

I'm usually friendly most of the time, but indirectly troll the shit out of everyone. I saved a man's life while under fire, but hate him for being weak and foolish enough to end up in the situation he was in. I'm on one hand charitable and want to help people, but can just as easily be callous and arrogant with a highly mercenary approach to things.

Duality of human nature type bullshit.

I paint Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion, maybe Salamanders and Alpha Legion would be more appropriate but I can't stomach their particular shade of green.

My favorite primarch is Lorgar though.
>>
>>46445859
Yeah, I finally found both answers - in the original Apocalypse book there's a superheavy transport chart (though it puts MCs at 10 models so it wouldn't matter), but the 2013 edition restricts it to just infantry

I'm now imagining a scenario where the primarchs and their deathstar bodyguard units are all assembling: when most have arrived it's a kind of mexican stand-off - Deathshroud slowly twirling their scythes, Firedrakes tapping their shields with their hammers, etc.
Then Horus arrives, and he has two extra dudes. Everyone's looking at him, like "dude, we had an agreement", and he's just looking smug.
Someone's just about to speak, to question him on it, then they're drowned out by the rumbling of the Tormenter approaching and the sound of the Iron Circle marching out.
Pert's stony-faced, as usual, but it's clear he's smug as hell.
Horus's jaw drops. He's been outdone, and he's pissed off.
The entire group start to argue, about Pert, about Horus, about who's got the best bodyguards.
Then, just as things are getting heated, there's a deafening noise as a golden thunderhawk slowly descends on the group, which shuts everyone up (if only because no-one would hear them).
It lands, and the front ramp opens to reveal Dorn and his THSS Termies, wreathed in dry ice-type smoke.
From the crowd there is silence, save for one agonised cry
"DOOOORN!!"

>How effective is the deathstar at clearing tarpits though?
probably pretty good, the terminators + 2 generic characters are putting out 40x s9 attacks on the charge, and reroll to hit in the first round because of zealot. they have furious charge and crusader from dorn, siggy gives them rerolls on charge distance and sweeping advance. dorn gives the unit +d3 combat res

siggy is putting out 5 s7 i6 attacks on the charge with ID in challenges and rerolling to hit + zealot.

dorn is putting out 5 s7 attacks + rampage + reaping blow attacks, he can half them to go to s9 with ID.

also with the thunderhawk theyd get their pick of whatever combat they want, so theyd be hard to tarpit anyway. didnt even factor in the apothecary but if he had a power sword hed be going at i5 with 3 s5 attacks too. the unit would have 2 eternal warriors + dorn to soak up wounds

As if Crysos wasn't already an auto-take. And with Autilon Skorr, some AL squads can get up to three different sources of Infiltrate.
It's not the first time FW gives a WT with the same name but different effect from the main rulebook (or that screws up, for that matter).
Durak Rask has a Target Priority that only affects his own squad instead of the "anyone within 12" of the main rulebook.
Maybe it's because back when the first books were published it was still meant for 6E and characters had precision shots and stuff like that

It makes some sense in that the outflank trait and target priority that Sevatar and Rask get are the 6th ed versions, so maybe FW just forgot to update them

What doesn't make sense is that Crysos got his rules published first, so they should have known better then to box in a WT from the main rulebook (RaskSsevatar) instead of referring to it (Crysos), to future proof the books

So did any meta for Dark Angels form or are we waiting for the special units to come out ? Lots of tanks and infantry with swords ?
>>
>>46453254
Well so far the LA rules are okay, but not great. A bonus with swords of all types, but if you want to win, you gotta crush your foes. Unlike most of the other legions it seems that the RoWs don't so much leverage the Legion's LA rules, but instead give you a whole different playing experience. I like it because it seems like they can be made into a lot of different but effective lists.
Tanks and Infantry with swords seems like a good way to go though, because Ironwing benefits bolt pistol, and LA benefits CC, so you can use your tanks to crack open the enemies transports so that your troops can shoot them up and then charge in to finish them off.

That said I am pretty excited for what's to come, both with more Wings and some special units.

>>
A guy in the last thread asked:

>Is there any point in fielding Breachers without a transport outside of ZM?

Well, I've evaluated them since they're mandatory for the basic IF Rite of War, and they actually seem pretty decent as footsloggers (as far as footsloggers can).

They might only suit people's tastes with the IF Stone Gauntlet RoW, since you're forced to take them, but even without the +1 toughness and Hammer of Wrath, they aren't actually bad in melee because of that 5+, and they undo the charge bonus thanks to their shields.

Plus they can take close-range special weapons (no plasma guns unfortunately), so if you want to get some strong firepower, you can get up to 4 Meltaguns, else you can get the flamer or Volkite Charger for spamming anti-infantry hits. You can also get the Lascutter for a single I1 lascannon melee attack, though I don't know what to think of that, because i don't think that's the best use of the dudes, unless you mix the lascutter guys in with flamers, to synergise with the CQC-focus Lascutters force your Breachers into.
Me, personally, with the IF rules, I think the meltaguns are what I'll go for, given that the special rules make your Breachers relatively intimidating in assault - T5 with +5 invuln, and with four meltagun shots on your targets, you can push things in your favour in the initial charge.

That said, if you aren't taking that IF RoW, or are just taking them barebones, then a good use of them is as more robust tactical squads - don't upgrade them with anything other than the Volkite Chargers, and send them forward to secure cover camping - they are better at moving over open ground on multiple turns thanks to their 6+ invuln, re-rolling armour saves against templates and blasts, and their cancellation of enemy charge bonuses.
Once you get them into some comfy cover camping, they can just use those extra bonuses over regular tac squads to hold the cover better in melee while still having shooting firepower in 24" radii.
>>

There's also the obvious consideration of the apothecaries as well: putting a 5+ FNP save on 20 T5 guys with 5+ invulns isn't that bad.

I'd like to hear the opinions of players of other legions, though. DG and IH are obviously the legions most similar to IF, though I'm not familiar with their playstyle, but I'm also intrigued by the possibilites for melee-oriented legions like the World Eaters and Night Lords.

One legion RoW I've seen that seems designed for them is the Iron Warriors Hammer of Olympia - IW units can do disordered charges after firing rapid fire weapons - they can get 40 bolter shots instead of the usual 20 before charging into melee with their 5++.

Would literally never happen. Too many factors against it.

For an actual answer though nothing would happen because all the primarchs know Angron is a retard so they would just carry on by themselves and ignore his orders. Chaos still corrupts horus because he's the best and horus still corrupts Angron because he's the easiest to fall.

If of course you meant a non-nails version of Angron who didn't become a slave because he landed on a civilised planet and was found much earlier in the Crusade then he was originally then the answer would be very different. That wouldn't actually be Angron though so your question is kinds pointless.

Lascutters are wank, not even good against vehicles. That WS1 just makes them fucking useless.
>>
>>46454018
Oh, it's WS1!?

If it was I1 it'd be passable, but there's no reason to have a weapon that can't hit anything other than the side of a barn, particularly when the squad has access to melta guns.

They've just got to rely on their firepower, HoW, and 5+ to shock out the enemy in the first turn and slog it in melee.

>>
>>46454099
Maybe if it was part of a special Jump-pack unit equivalent of a heavy support squad, and as an optional "sidearm", but putting in it with a slower ranged unit amplifies the uselessness of the weapon - there's no need for this weapon when meltabombs exist AND THE BREACHERS THEMSELVES CAN TAKE THEM IN ADDITION TO THEIR REGULAR WEAPONRY!!!

How canonically suitable are the plastic GW Terminators for the HH? I think the Tartaros Pattern doesn't look boxy or "artisanal" enough for certain legions, and especially not melee troops.

But there's symbolism on the models that looks like it comes after everyone from the Heresy era is dead and the post-heresy religious flavour comes in.

The Crux Terminatus can be sold off as Templar imagery in the Imperial Fists legion, and the Purity Seals' Heresy precedent was the "Oaths of Moment", and the Indomitus pattern armour was first used by the Imperial Fists, but isn't the "Aquila" across the chest something that wasn't allowed until the battle of Terra? Or am I completely wrong?
>>
>>46454583
Completely fine.

Gorgons are using that pattern, the Imperial Fists were equipped with that pattern, as were the Blo' Angels.

Basically, all of the Terminator armours all kind of exploded into the Legions within a short period of time, sent off for mass field testing of every design, and then the Legions took those patterns and modded the fuck out of them for their homebrew elite snowflake units.

Model wise, use whatever the fuck models you want. Rules wise, Tartaros is currently the best armour for melee, since you can now do a Sweeping Advance in it.
>>
>>46454583
Indomitus a shit.

If you take a knife, file and some sanding paper to remove the useless icons all is forgiven.

Speaking of jokes, I'm fairly sure the name "Crimson Fists" is crying out for a joke that it's based on a combination of two degenerate sex acts.

>>46454901
Yeah, I think there's a handful of legs and torsoes and so on from bitz shops that minimise the amount of T-shaped crux terminatuses and winged-torso decorations, so that you don't have the totally out-of-place crux terminatuses there. The + shaped Templar-style crosses fit the Imperial Fist aesthetic, though, but perhaps not for other legions.

If you buy the FW terminator shoulder pads for your legion, you can use the "blank" shoulder pads from the plastic set that normally contain the chapter symbol as "blank" shoulderpads in place of the Crux Terminatus symbols.

Though I do intend to get the most 40k use out of any 30k unit I make, so I don't think it's that bad a move to make the Crux Terminatus shoulderpads look like Templar Crosses, particularly the Forge World IF pads, if you look at them.

I'm starting up an Iron Warriors force, and I own a Spartan.

Question is: What do I put (if anything) in said Spartan. I love Tyrants, and I could use them to get a non HS Spartan, but I feel they would be better off just footslogging.

So Tyrants in a Spartan, or should I be putting something else in there instead?

Iron cross symbol is present on elite units even in 30k. Elite units like terminators. Take some GS and fill in the ridged portions of the crux and it's a stylized iron cross with a skull.

>>46455108
Yes, I forgot to mention that a certain type of small cross (usually in a gold colour) works as a "field generator" that gives them the invulnerable save. Same thing on Storm Shields.

>>46455103
Termies, Termies, Termies.

Cataphractii with heavy melee weapons, 2 plasma blasters, a terminator Primus Medicae, and Perturabo. I plan to do the same thing with Dorn and termies when his model comes out.

Tyrants are the world's best footsloggers.
10 48" range blasts or S8 AP3 shots, combined with storm bolters within 24", is beautiful.

Sending them into CQC and leaving them in transports is a use of their missile launchers you're forgoing, and you're also wasting the ability of the Spartan to get slow melee units into combat quickly and intact.

>>46455152
The great thing about the IF is every mark of armour works for them.

>>46455170
I wouldn't say "vice-versa", but I'd definitely accept a Quad Mortar as a stand-in Thunderfire Cannon in 40k, because it's an old relic and they could update it with "holy" tech to venerate it for its age.
>>
>>46455092

>>
>>46455180
Nah, Cthonians are cool in my eyes, they really do add to the legion, just always preferred them as Luna Wolves and not the SoH
>>
>>46455248
You could just paint a huge blood splash on his fist, with specks over his body and face as if blood spurted onto him from the position of an enemy being punched by him, and if you want to get really creative, you could put a custom enemy corpse on his base, with the torso pretty much destroyed or caved in and the innards spilled out in a big pile of gooey green stuff and blood for the blood god paint.
>>
>>46455241
>a "field generator" that gives them the invulnerable save

I think Cataphractii is the only one that's actually said to have a shield generator. Other terminator armour gets Inv. save from just being that durable. That's at least last I checked.
>>
>>46455306
Maybe, but Storm Shields (and even combat and boarding shields, technically) definitely do have shield generators within them, and the refractor fields and iron halos (along with the later Rosarius) are generally kept in decoratively-shaped "trinkets", like the "spiked ring", but also the equilateral cross seen on a lot of terminator stuff.

Alright guys, I'm going to be getting a Warhound Titan soon and was wondering if any of you played with them in a 3000 pt army and if so, what did your list look like that supported it.

I normally play 2500pts of World Eaters centered on getting Angron into choppy range but want to adapt and make a cool 3000pt list since that allows me to take the Warhound. My play group are excited for the challenge and I want to give them a run for their money.

So what would a basic shell for a Warhound army look like?

I was thinking of building the army to focus on just killing anything that can threaten the Warhound and then relying on the Plasma Blastgun and TurboLaser to clean out the enemies troops.

Any suggestions?
>>
>>46455103

Always footslog tyrants, you want them marching up the board and blasting shit turn 1

If your don't mind running that faggot Golg him with 10 standard termies fully kitted out with a primus medic in termie armour for FNP or a forge lord for RAD grenades would be deadly as fuck, rock out of the spartan, flame shit, crash in with 10+ HoW hits with your squad of T4 2+ 4++ 5+++ (or no FNP and the enemy taking those HoW hits at -1 toughness) sweaty dudes and engage in man fighting
>>
>>46456392
Sworn brothers can join other legion squads...but not ride the brother legion's transports.
If I joined Golg to the Red Butchers, I could concievably put them all inside a Spartan, right? It's not like I was placing an IW tactical squad inside a WE Spartan, he's just an attached character
>>
>>46456454

RAW he could join the butchers and they would gain his HoW ability, but he can't embark in their transport and they can't embark in an IW transport

P.12 of the Legion book says Sworn brothers still can't embark in each others transports, sorry dude

and while I certainly toyed around with the idea of an IW/WE force for a while, and while i by no means want to sound like im trying to tell you your having fun wrong, if you aren't running either robot spam mechanicum or artillery spam mechanicum as allies for IW, your doing it wrong

So, even if the unit is made almost entirely out of Butchers, transports are pretty much "legion boys only".
Well, footslogging Butchers sure sounds like a bad idea, so I'll drop that line of thought.
I just wanted someone to take advantage of Perty's FC on the enemy deployment zone, and Butchers with their reroll 1s to wound, Hatred and stuff seemed like the ideal candidates. Maybe I'll just not add Gogl to them

In old RT era stuff SM jump packs looked more like regular backpacks.

I had an idea of giving a Moritat a jump pack by using a CSM backpack with the exhausts modified a bit to more like nozzles, and more traditional backpack exhausts added lower to the sides of the backpack. Sort of like old four exhaust backpacks (also seen on some of the DV Chosen).
