The only way for this movie to be good is to be a parody of itself. D&D is meant for comic good times man. You need to sell it to children and you need to keep legit for the old gags.
D&D has loads of classics , you just need to make an interesting party, basic simple slapstick story, and remember that every action in the movie is the result of player choice and dice rolls.
So basically Gamers was the movie that they should make.

personally I'd follow marvels example. Pick classic adventures and release them one movie at a time, hell you could even do a trilogy of movie line ups like the old adventures like GDQ or something like that. set the story in Greyhawk and you could introduce key members as the movies go on to the plot, and possibly use it as a way of doing spin off movies into different settings such as Al Kadim and Oriental Adventures. Build the world with each movie and have it all end in a spetacular multipart movie like Infinity War plans to. and as the credits roll in the final movie you could just have all the actors getting up from the DMs table saying great game or something and walking off into the shadows, as their silhouette changes to match their character or something.
