ORKZ IZ MADE FER KRUMPIN
WAAAAAGH
The infernal tetrad is incredibly expensive, but also incredibly versatile and powerful.
What is /tg/'s opinion on taking 4 T6 Daemon princes? Always bad? Always good? Dick move below 2k points?
Where do you draw the line between an acceptable SM player and a SM WAACfag?
>>46352332
Always powerful. A dick move against any non-tier one armies.
>>46352295
This book here says, no more krumpin for you, foul monster
>>46352338
If ONE of these apply, WAACfag, would not play against.
If ALL of these apply, you should be legally allowed to buy one of the old metal dreadnaughts (for the army you play, eldar may not apply) and throw it into the face of the fucker
-Grav on everything
-Uses Free Transports OR only has minimal standard squads (for example chapter master with 2x5 scouts)
-Two chapter tactics/different codices although the army is painted in a single color scheme.
-"ChapterMaster SmashFucker" or something similar
-Using the good forgeworld stuff in addition to the usual(Typhon, Fire Raptor...)
-serious in-game boni abuse (Vindicator Squadron etc.)
-2+ squads of sternguard with combimelter for suicide dropping
Thats all I can think of, but the list definitly is not complete
I want to do skitarri with black or grey cloaks, but can't decide between agripinaa (top) and stygies VIII (bottom). Which might work best for someone who isn't the best painter? For example, highlights for me are pretty much limited to drybrushing unless there's a really sharp edge to work with (so the edges of the cloaks should be okay, but the armour probably won't be).
Also, what's a good weapon/squad combo for the techpriest dominus? Neither of his weapons dovetail perfectly with any skitarii or kataphron squad, but was thinking of giving him volkite and putting him in a vanguard squad (possibly toting plasma) for general anti-infantry work.
>>46352332
Even if you took nothing but 4 walking daemon princes under a thousand points, most armies would probably still have a rough time. T6 4W MCs with various psychic/shooting utility that are always dangerous, occasionally outright unbeatable, in assault is bad news bears.
Shared power is a nightmare RAW too. Needs an FAQ to function as intended; maybe hopefully allowing all the daemon princes to roll on their own table for fluff reasons in the future too.
>>46352519
Grey is a much better color, and is easier to pull off. Solid black can look rather poor unless done properly.
>>46352550
>Needs an FAQ to function as intended
which reminds me, who else is scared that the big FAQ will result in an even worse game, because the "rules designers" will go over it during lunch break without thinking about the implications of their answers?
>>46352338
Probably when he brings grav-cents or las-back company.
I don't have a
How long can a normal human live in 40k, if they are not horribly murdered?
Space Marines are practically immortal iirc and magos live for hundreds of years but how long can a bog standard human live on just shooting up rejuvenat?
>>46352638
> Lasback company
> Not bringing LASPLAS with Plas-plastacs
> Not having 18 lascannons and 24 plasma guns
> Fucking niggers with inferior shit-tier razorwire
Get on my level faggot,
>>46352819
-complete demi-company even.
I've got deathwing and plasma tacticals ya fag.
>>46352500
Hrm.. Now what's REALLY broken you stupid faggot? A 270 point walker that you can only have one of in your entire army, or 6 wraithknights/riptides without such a restriction?
> Smashfucker is 300+ points and can only kill 4 models a turn
First and only time I ever saw smashfucker was in a Tournament. My Dreadnought Squad punched him and his trippy I1 laden asshole to death.
> Grav on Everything
This is a given, I would agree that this is WAACfaggotry
> Not understanding that all of the forgeworld shit comes with the "Relic of the Armoury" rule, meaning you can only ever have one of the entire fucking huge list of them.
If you see someone with a Deredeo and a Sicaran in the same list, and their warlord is not a techmarine, bitch them the fuck out. I had disqualified someone at a tournament I went to for this, he had no techmarines, and 3 relics. Which was blatant cheating.
> 2+ squads of sternguard with combimelter
They kill precisely one unit and then die in return. I don't see what's there to complain about unless you're bringing shit like 3 knights.
>>46352798
regular joe the farmer naturally lives to be 90/100 or so but a noble/navy officer/clerk with rejuvenants could do 200 i believe
>>46352332
against the tougher armies and grey knights it's fair game
>>46352588
Okay, cheers, will give that a go then.
>>46352936
>but a noble/navy officer/clerk with rejuvenants could do 200 i believe
colonel schaeffer of the last chancers was like 300 years old
>>46352338
Battle Company, Gravstar, or Bike spam = WAAC.
It's very obvious.
>>46352500
>-2+ squads of sternguard with combimelter for suicide dropping
I draw it at two but I hate it since its NOFUN
>>46352519
The tech priest doesn't really play well with skitarii units, it's better to stick him in a more durable allied squad or arm him with the pimp cane relic and then put him in a squad of kastelan robots or battle servitors.
>>46352978
>citing Abnett
>>46352978
well then, learn something new everyday
Question for space marine players, do you kit out your squad sergeants?
>>46353236
>then put him in a squad of kastelan robots
ICs can't join squads that contain monstrous creatures
>>46353441
there's a formation for that
>>46353473
True, but that thing is a centerpiece of an army, not a casual decision about where to toss the preist.
>>46352356
Got the wrong codex.
>>46353506
when i played my buddy at a 1850 game he used war convo, he left his tech priest in the back by himself. while i mentioned he should probably be in a squad i wasn't able to hurt or get near his tech priest all game. your mileage may vary since i play daemons and i didn't have any guns or powers worth aiming at him
i believe the troop choices are t5
New to 40K.
Can I Go To Ground in response to Overwatch, or is it something I can only do during the Shooting phase?Would this be an effective way to bait my Tau friend and prep him to get charged?
http://regimental-standard.com/2016/03/04/tau-technology-inferior-2/
How can imperials complain about Tau if they are so weak? Since even a simple guardsman is so much better then a Tau, surely a Space Marine can kick those hellish xeno-breeds in the ass
Hey White Dwarf? Why you give me rules to play Scions in Deathwatch? When you give me rules to play The Eight?
>>46353582
yes you can but the charge auto-fails
>>46353657
The quip about an unstable design is actually a reference to the weak ankles of the Crisis Suits models, which break when players transport them all the time.
>>46353661
Thank you.
I'm fine with it auto-failing. I intend to kit Skitarii Vanguard with Stasis Fields and charge his blue blobs. He can take overwatch and I can go-to-ground with a 2++ and charge him with Dragoons, or he can let me charge and get face-fucked anyway.
No, I have no idea what I'm doing. Why do yo uask?
/tg/ whats your opinion on razorbacks? I was thinking of using the iron hands chapter tactics and supplement to run 5 man squads with techmarines in razorbacks for the core of my army but idk how effective that would be.
>>46353582
>haha, I let my opponent get some extra shooting for no possible upside, I sure showed him
>>46353727
>>46353582
>i'm gonna charge him then go to ground!
Just charge him anon, seriously
>>46353769
The idea is that units can only overwatch once, thus if you threaten to charge with something and then go to ground, you can waste all of their firepower and get the actual assault unit in.
>>46353796
It's not like he is absorbing the overwatch with 2+ cover save and then go in unmolested with another unit.
>oh shit I forgot, melee is bad and this game has no tactics whatsoever. Welp, better spam more droppods and gravbikes!
>>46353813
>The idea is that units can only overwatch once
Not if they're Longstrike.
>>46353414
I play melee marines so I do.
I have a 10 man tactical squad with veteran Sargent equipped with power sword and grav pistol as a 'unit champion'. The idea is he uses the pistol to concussion a big monster then charge in to try and slay it to win glory.
So far he's managed to slay a few carnifexes but I'm already wonder if I should give him a power axe.

>>46352934
>6 wraithknights
it's a lord of war, so outside of the eldar detachment you can get only 1 (if you allow unbound, you're asking for cheesing).
The eldar detachment can lead to a cheese list, but for full WAAC CAD with 1 wraithknight is better imho. The bikes having ob sec is huge, you can take wraithguard without a massive point cost formation (which won't leave points for 2 wraithknights outside of a huge game), etc.
>>46353839
right right; but who wouldn't want to get into glorious cqc? i hear the tau are even doing push ups these days
>>46352500
>Two chapter tactics/different codices although the army is painted in a single color scheme.
Aww I am good at everything besides that.
In my defense it is just three librarians and sometimes I only need one at below 2500pts and don't want White Scars fuckin up the look of my RW.
>Oh they are just talking about regular SM players
Does that mean my pure RW list isnt WAACy!?
>>46353839
>I charge you
>Ok
>A-are you going to o-overwatch?
>No
>....Shit..
>>46353990
then the unit that doesnt overwatch gets locked in combat and he cant overwatch
dont be a retard anon
>>46353988
If anyone asks, tell them its canonically accurate.
Its a fluffy list I swear.
>>46353990
If they're in close combat they can't overwatch. Doesn't help baiting out the supporting fire, admittedly.
>>46353414
Yes. It might not be the most optimized way to run sergeants, but I like the style and the occasional power fist or AP 3 attacks help ensure a squad is a threat to multiple kinds of units.
>>46353990
>Meat Shield unit makes charge
>target unit can no longer overwatch
>>46353990
>Tau infantry engaging Skitarii Vanguard in melee
I'll bet on the Skitarii.
>>46353414
I used too, now I just have one. He's a veteran with a lightning claw and combi-flamer. I run Salamanders so I master craft the claw.
>>46354047
>tfw that is exactly what I say
I wrecked a FSE last week and he got so mad he tossed his riptide into his army box and cracked it and went on to explain that my army "wasn't fun for him to play against"
>>46353251
There are multiple examples of humans living well over 300+ years old, and I think one Inquisitor even lived to be almost 1000, though he was described as an extreme outlier and a withered husk of a human.
>>46353867
why not both? its like 35pts for a single warlord to unlock OBsec bikes
>>46354117
>you beat a Riptide list so hard it actually broke
>the sound of it cracking masked the sound of that Tau scum's heart doing the same
Truly you are doing the Emperor's work, battle-brother.
>>46353988
>"pure Ravenwing"+ Librarius Conclave+White Scars
Of course it's WAAC.
>>46354117
Let me guess, he didn't have any markerlights by turn two.
>>46354163
Thanks
7/9 Grav Shots wounded the Riptide turn one and Tau-guy started sperging out
>That isn't fair
>Grav OP
>Scout OP
>That unit shouldn't be strong enough to take this unit out
>Saltsaltsalt
>>46354246
Cheese begets cheese; he has no grounds to complain.
>>46354246
Defeating cheddar with gorgonzola isn't that great a feat, you know?
>>46354246
>Being proud of pointing your unit erasing guns at something and erasing it
This is what the game has come to
>>46354246
>scout OP
My sides are with the Emperor now.
>>46354246
I can only imagine the responses if this was tau player removing marine bike command squad or something with riptide.
>>46354246
How many points were those Grav guns?
In any case, if it was 9 shots, and 7 got past all the saves, then that was a fair bit of luck on your side taking it out in one shot.
I don't have any sympathy for him though, since he saw fit to whine about it.
>>46354334
3 15(20?) point grav guns does 9 shots so its possible he rolled like a true nigger and hit with all of them
>>46354332
Which thanks to Pathfinders is exactly what would have no doubt occurred on that player's turn. Ignores cover, ignores armour...
oh and costs less than a command squad, which has a range of only 18 inches, optimal 9.
>>46352934
Deredeos are actually pretty balanced desu, they have zero melee capabilities and cost more points since they use the Contemptor chassis. You're potentially paying over 250 points for a heavy anti-air/artillery walker which gets tarpitted for the rest of the game if even a single squad assaults it.
If anything it counters other peoples overpowered stuff: the autocannon battery can rip up flyer spam and heavy vehicles, while the plasma will put a wound a turn on a riptide from a source that the Riptide will have difficulty retaliating against. Meanwhile an old-school Tactical Squad with a meltagun and a hidden power fist will ruin its day.
>>46354285
Feels pretty good though.
>>46354289
>deploying a Riptide easily within range of my Grav after scout moves
He could have hid that shit but not, it had to go frontline and center.
>>46354332
Yeah turn two my command squad got to his commander and he conceded the match.
>>46354334
30 pts for the 2 regular bikers and 10 for the combi. The unit itself is 120pts
8 of the grav shots hit, 7 wounded and 6 got through. It was by far the best rolls I have ever had with them.
>>46354460
Yeah. I can see why he'd be a bit upset that a unit half the price of his killed it in one turn, but those were very lucky rolls, and he had to have been outplayed a fair bit anyway with the range of those guns.
So yeah, fuck that guy.
>>46354460
>turn two my command squad got to his commander and he conceded the match
Conceding the match turn two because you lost your big unit is a bitch move. I could understand the end of turn three at the earliest but I would hate if someone just gave up in the middle of my second turn.
>>46354575
>Conceding the match turn two because you lost your big unit is a bitch move. I could understand the end of turn three at the earliest but I would hate if someone just gave up in the middle of my second turn.
hate that shit
i ran over a squad of nobs with a big mek in it with reavers turn 2 and the other player just gave up then and there
>>46354575
We' have this player in our store who has conceded end of turn one as tau vs a marine super friends all bike list when he lost his markerlights.
The kicker is that we play with the old 6th ed ruins rules where bikes can't climb levels, and most of his army was on top of ruins.
>>46354415
> Zero melee capabilities
I've charged an Ork Mob with my Deredeo once, 30 boyz with no Power Klaws. One goddamn kill with his two S6 attacks(normally 1, but I charged). But the Ork Player declared "Our Weapon are Useless!", and decided to retreat. Initiative Roll Off happened, and the Deredeo fucking sweeped the entire ork mob off of the table.
It was the most amusing thing good old Ancient Valentine has ever done. The ork player never lived it down either.
>>46354667
>30 boyz with no Power Klaws.
For what purpose?
>>46354667
>decided to retreat from an i4 opponent as orks
what a fucking mongoloid, like seriously
he deserves every bad thing that ever happens to him
>>46354731
Sounds like ork player, all right. No grasp of rules.
>You're in the club and this thing slaps your Chapter Chaplain on the ass
What do you do?
>>46354727
No clue why. He was trying out a list at the time that included 3 battlewagons with Supa Kannons, so I guess he was saving points for other things, which isn't something the guy normally does anyway.
Same turn also had him charging his Warboss with Meganobz into a squad of Hammernators. Understandably the warboss and his nobz all wiped.
>>46354731
I actually counted on him doing this. He's not the brightest person I've ever known.
>>46354775
I wait and watch for Brother Captain Venom to attach a 'fulton' to the daemon. He's around here somewhere I think.
>>46354775
Muttering a prayer for purity to the Emperor, Dorn and my ancestors, I draw my plasma pistol and blast the foul creature. As a Slaaneshi daemon, it's charred flesh actually has a quite good aroma, but I drag it outside, dump promethium over it and burn it to ashes with the required incantations of purity.
I then give the club owner a generous tip to pay for the several beer bottles that melted from the heat discharge of my plasma pistol.
>>46354775
Get the chaplain to slap it back with his crozius.
>>46354775
What thing? That is clearly Brother Darius congratulating the Brother Captain on a mission well done.
Now if you dont mind I have to be back in the comms room to bomb Fenris
Does anyone recognize which model this is?
>>46354966
its space wolves terminator I THINK
Do you guys prefer fighting/playing traitor legions or renegade chapters when facing CSM?
>>46354775

>>46354602
tbf a nob bike squad could cost 800+ points or similar though
If I've erased 50% or more of a guys army by bottom of turn 2, I wouldn't really blame him for conceding.
>>46355023
>traitor legions
Renegade Chapters just seem a bit dull to me. If you are going to turn to Chaos you should have hopped on that Bandwagon when the Primarchs were doing it. Anything after that shames your founding Chapter and makes you look like a tantrum-throwing toddler. But I play Dark Angels so what do I know about Chaos....
>>46354966
It's a Space Marine captain with Terminator Armour, Storm Bolter and Power Axe. I'm not sure if it's an actual model or a conversion though.
Paints are too thick and patchy though, you should strip it with simple green, thin 'em and start over.
>>46354995
>>46355051
>>46355143
Looking at it some more, the position of the Iron Halo and the horned skulls suggest the torso is a Chaos model. But the legs and head are clearly Imperial(loyalist face, purity seals everywhere). So probably a conversion.
>>46354575
I once played a 2500 points game aganist GK with Imperial guard.
He won the roll for first turn....and let me go first while placing his paladins deathstar behind "some cover".
Twenty minutes later he said "welp i fucked up, wanna go again?"
Depending on how much those first two turns screwed you up I'd say it's ok if you just admit the loss and, having enough time for another game, go for a re-match. If you just pack up and leave it's just a dick move.
>>46353695
Or those fuckdamn old Broadside suits, with their fucking crisis suit legs and feet, and their colossal metal railgun and missile launcher arms
>>46352934
>They kill precisely one unit and then die in return. I don't see what's there to complain about unless you're bringing shit like 3 knights.
This is the precise definition of WAACfag i.e optimizing your army to have one use units. The opposite taking fluffy units that are supposed to not only survive but surprise i.e. 10 man tactical squads armed for shooting and assault.
>>46354775
cringe as the chapter chaplain was actually a leman russ battle tank, and panic as I lose a 150+ point tank to yet another assault phase
assault should be illegal, it hurts tanks
>>46355195
Take a closer look, the legs are chaos too. As is the torso, axe, and cape. The loyalist bits are the storm bolter and head. There are just some purity seals covering the legs.
>>46354966
the horned skulls are found on librarians usually, so probably something based on the old termie librarian
>>46354108
I want to do something similar, though with storm bolters and power swords.
I wish I could slap relic blades on them all.
>>46354047
>Ravenwing and White Scars worked together at one point
>therefore it's perfectly fluffy to have several WS librarians hanging out with nothing but Ravenwing
>>46356183
Play 30k DAngels. They get some very sexy swords.
Hey fa/tg/uys
I've decided to waste a Considerable amount of money on 40k. The armies I currently play are IG, SM and Admech
Any suggestions?
(budget is around 80-150 UK pounds )
>>46355363
In all fairness, Sternguard only really work as Drop Pod suicide squads. They aren't durable enough to hang out for a turn or two without getting gutted. They're just too dangerous to leave alive, bit try have no real ways to protect themselves.
>>46356270
any combination of 2 IG and Skitarii Start Collecting boxes.
It really depends on what you already have in those armies and where you want to go with them.
You already know that answer better than anyone here.
>>46356206
If I did, I wouldn't have anyone to play against.
I still feel like there's something wrong with the guys around here though when they say 30k is a different game.
>>46356308
Thx m9
I was thinking about getting some more tanks for my IG, so far I only have 1 Leman Russ and 50 Guard (Including command squads), it's a pretty new army so I mostly use it as an allied detachment. Any suggestions for expansion?
>>46356270
>Should I buy a knight
Yeah, sure. Having one in your army won't make you a dick, and they look like a cool project to paint.
The wording on sacrifice allows you to take 30 points of upgrades on your herald. Does this include artifacts that the heralds are now capable of taking?
Being 1 WC from a HoN with the doomsday bell is actually pretty sweet
>>46354966
entire model except the papers on his knees is the plastic Chaos Lord/Sorcerer in Terminator Armor.
>>46356273
You don't have to put them behind enemy lines. Mixed with special/combi weapons you can keep them in ruins or in rhino where they wont be seen as a threat. Excellent for taking out that monstrous creatures with ammunition if they're preoccupied with keeping away from your centurion squad.
>>46356397
I am tempted by a knight but a friend of mine has one and I still have trouble sleeping at night whenever I think of the cheese it can output.
(4+ invulns trigger me now)
>>46356389
Wyverns, a couple leman russes to build a Tank HQ, heavy weapons teams to go with your 50 guardsmen, then it's up to you.
Primaris psykers are great to put into the weapons squads, they give them Ld9 for orders while spreading divination powers can give some hilarious results (Like twin-lined, ignore cover tank hunter lascannons on a good day).
After that you need to think about mobility so either Veterans in chimeras/Vendettas or some FW Tauroses (40 pts buggyes with heavy flamers), but for those you best grab some ork buggies and "counter-loot" them unless you're made of money.
>>46356476
>>46356397

two more Leman russ or one and an artillery. Wyverns and Basilisks seem popular.
Do your guards have transports if you run them as vets?
>>46356484
Hmm that's a good idea, I hadn't thought of psychers. And twin linked on bs 3 would be pretty useful.
I was reading the rules for Manticore the other day and they seemed pretty sick. The only drawback I could see was the limited Ammo. Is it worth purchasing one?
>>46356556
Nah I usually have them in 2 blobs of 20 to sit on objectives and fire 60 lasgun shots at things if they get too close
Meanwhile whoever I ally them with does the offensive
>>46356574
Nah don't go for the Manticore.
As others have said another Leman Russ, some artillery and some psykers would be your best bet.
>>46356626
>Meanwhile whoever I ally them with does the offensive
I want to pick up two of the Space Wolf boxes and two rhinos so I could ally them with my Ravenwing.

Played CSM + Daemons vs. Ork trukks, bikes, tankbustaz, and meganobz. Got tabled. By Orks.
Daemonic instability did 26 wounds by the end of turn 2. Erased the remaining models in 3 units of Nurglings, and a unit of Plaguebearers. Double 6's three out of five rolls.
Fucking dice man, what the fuck. And I gotta stop fielding a Contemptor, Decimator, and Terminators. About 700 points of useless garbage that I only use because I love the models.

Do your tac sergeants have Melta bombs? Is there a squad without a rhino?
>>46358225
Yeah, I just finished painting the Tallyband units, it's gonna take about 3 weeks to do the Rotswarm units. Then it's a full Daemonic Incursion list, with a GUO for the 0-1 Command choice. No more daemonic instability fails, ever. .

>>46358502
It doesn't even match the current fluff. Orks always have some teleporter shit, the only unit that can DS is jump infantry.
In I am Slaughter the Orks fuck with gravity so hard they kill all the Imperial Fists. But they would never be allowed to have as potent an anti-vehicle option as grav weapons, give that to the SM they love incorporating new tech.
The only good example of orky tech matching recent fluff in the codex is the tractor kannon.
>>46359258

They could make the Ork codex so much more fun and fluffy without even necessarily making it good-tier and I'd be happy.
It's a shame really, but I still like my dudes and I'll keep painting them. And I'll probably even still keep fielding my Kustom Stompa with the exact same loadout as the codex one for 615 points until they pry it out of my cold dead fingers.Even then it's still overcosted compared to other LoWs, but it leaves me room for more of my models.
>>46359337

without... plasma?
Have you thought about pla-, errr, three melta guns on a veteran squad in a chimera?
In all serious though, melta vet squads with demolition charges, demolisher cannon and masses of lascannon heavy weapons teams (though these will need some supporting units such as a divination psyker or company command with standard to avoid running off the table).

>>46360594
No they don't, but they have an entire supplement in Sentinels of Terra.
Nobody knows whether or not GW has plans for it. If the IF ever feature in a campaign they will get formations.
Ok, I've been looking at getting into 40k and it looks like the imperial guard sounds fun. How do I go about building an army? And is there a way to build one around the death korps of kreig because that shit it tight
>always brings at least 1 wraith knight
>won't even put his models on the board when you break out a knight paladin
>>46360700
Well first let's hold on.
Are you committed to buying the super expensive DKoK Forge World models?
>>46360700
>How do I go about building an army?
Start buying dirt cheap guardsmen on eBay. You'll need minimum 50 guardsmen models to play any sort of IG army other than a retarded 20 man mech vet list.
> And is there a way to build one around the death korps of kreig because that shit it tight
DKoK is just the normal guard build but using Krieger models instead of plastic Cadians.
>>46360700
Death Korps of Krieg has their own models and rulebooks. They also happen to be made by Forgeworld so they're much more expensive than normal guard.
Refer to 1d4chan tactics pages to learn about what works in an army.
>>46360700
How much do you have to spend? Serious question because a DKoK army could set you back hundreds.
>>46360720
He's technically not wrong. He's just a fucking retard because even with all those points, Eldar still facerape everyone else.
It's the same way Taufags think Riptides and Stormsurges are too expensive in points or have weak firepower.
>>46352500
Do minimum Tac squads get a pass?
>>46360730
How much of a commitment is that? Im from /k/ and finished collecting rifles in all the major intermediate calibers so my hobby money is going towards either reloading equipment or 40k
>>46360738
So I guess start standard, get to know the game then invest?
>>46360785
Tacticals are worthless and are only taken because formations require you to. If you have a generic troop requirement to fill you should be using 5 Scouts if you're trying to save points or Bikes if you want something good.
Scouts are several points cheaper and can also infiltrate or outflank and now have BS4. The ONLY thing they lose is special weapons and 3+ power armor. When was the last time the tactical squad's mighty power armor and single special weapon mattered?
>>46360814
You could easily spend a grand in a complete DKoK army with proper models.
Starting out would run over 350.
>>46360814
If you know you're going to main DKoK for the rest of your life then you can just dive into FW. I did that with resin space marines and it went fine, but then again generic resin space marines are much more durable and useful than resin guardsmen who only fulfill troop roles and have fiddly delicate bayonets. Just buy some Cadians to practice the basics of model building and painting on first.

I only ever equip it with a storm laser and a siege claw, and send it off against TEQ/MEQ elite units. He took out a group of Grey Knight Terminators! I've only played with him twice but he has done nicely both times.
I'd imagine the Contemptor would fall under the same advice given that they have very similiar profiles.

>>46361351

>>46361227
They're the tallarn, you're sort of shit out of luck with them because FW dropped the range of new miniatures they did for them, so you're stuck either hunting those down or buying the limited selection of 2nd edition metal models that GW still sell for them.
That said there's a guy that posts in this thread every now and then that has this sweet looking Tallarn army using Cadians and a head swap that looks pretty cool, but I don't know where the heads are from.
>>46361438
I get the land raider thing, cause there's actually fluff stating that land raiders are reserved exclusively for sm, but everything else should be fair game.
>>46361351

Those Radium Carbines do more damage to Space Marines than the Boltguns do to the Vanguard at long ranges, and only slightly less damage at close quarters. This is despite the marines being significantly more expensive.

October. Hope your ready for six months of Age of Sigmar.
>>46362473
There are no rumors with any credence. A combined codex will almost certainly come at some point, and a Flyer and a Transport are merely logical guesses as to what new kits could come with it.
Just finished my Fists, now i just have to finish the Drop Pod. Idea is the podded Purifiers and Interceptors mow down infantry turn one, while the IF librarian helps the dev squad. Any big targets get handled by Dreadknight and GK librarian/assault termies, who will hopefully be hitting at s10, having a 2++ save or possibly both. Any feedback? Yes, it's suboptimal, i do not play at tournaments so i don't mind.

>Six months of AoS
I'm not too mad. I don't hate it uncontrollably. But maybe that's because Lizardmen have been left completely untouched and the only difference is they're Super Saiyan Wizards rather than following Old Ones shit.
But I saw like... Shit loads of 'Order' models being fire sold. My assumption is these 6 months will be replacing them? If I'm right, they're all the old models being removed.
Ah well. Such is life. 40k is doing well.
The "six months of AoS", do you mean from now till October, or after October? I assume BEFORE.
What is >>46357458?
>>46363167
Sergeant with a combi-melta. I'd say he's wearing artificer armour too but the rules don't allow for that, depends on how much your group enjoys 40k.
>>46363111
Imagine if hey gave fantasy this much attention. They would never have needed to kill it.
>>46363399
Fantasy didn't even have a player base.
>>46363474
it did before 8th ruined it
>>46363474
Because they never fucking did anything with it
>>46362990
>not gun lining your marines against short range vanguard
I forget that mathhammer fags just look at numbers and can't into tactics.
>>46363533
Then there was no reason for the regular players to drop it.
>>46361952
>Stop that will you?
Never
>>46363474
Oh yeah it did. Magic phase bullshit killed the game, along with a couple other terrible decisions. Blaming the customer is corporate subjugation, and anyone who does this should be ashamed of their stupidity.
>>46363550
What part of that scenario was unrealistic? Marines are sitting on a point, they shoot Vanguards first thanks to longer range, then the Vanguard move up to shoot them, and likely eventually win the exchange of fire.
Just sitting there or trying to kite them won't work. Maybe if you have more tacticals, but at the same time they might have more vanguard.
Either way, the complaint of Vanguard being weak to Bolters seems really silly if they're winning a typical fire-fight so easily.
>>46363689
The vanguard only ever get to shoot if the space marines step forward to shoot. If the vanguard are the first to move, the sm can just keep walking backwards and vanguard will never be in range, unless they burn a turn running.
My original point was that footslogging vanguard is a bad idea, as they are actually really good when they get a chance to shoot.
>>46363641
What do you have to gain?
>>46363474
>>46363482
>>46363533
>>46363672
Fantasy players slowly died from 5th onwards. I know, I saw it happen. 8th was the final straw.
Those who moan about AoS, had they actually played the game and bought models, this wouldn't have happened.
Enjoying setting =! buying models.
Irrelevant EITHER WAY, because new blood was put off by WHFB and lots of crap.
AoS has streamlined it in that area. It's stupid to moan about in a 40k thread anyway.
>>46362248
After the burning of prospero, only 75 ppm with build in ionic amplifier that gives the knight an invulnerable save on all facings while it remains at 12" of the drop pod, it is AV 13 4 hp and it isn't open topped
>>46363803
>Both sides start at 30 inches
>Space marines don't move.
>Vanguard move up 5 inches, just out of range
>Space marines spend their turn jacking off, because they can't move up to shoot.
>Vanguard move 6 inches (unless they can move 9, is that a different unit?) putting them at 19
>Space marines back up 5 inches, putting them just at 24 to shoot
>Vanguard move up 6, putting them within 18
>Everything goes as described
Yeah, just kite them. That works great. It changes everything.
Is it only the DA that have specific color schemes for their terminators, or could I do it for a homebrew?
>>46363959
Don't see why not. It'd probably be best for them to still share some color or tone with the rest of the force, but even codex compliant chapters are supposed to have their chapter colors mixed up for certain Companies and units.
>>46363959
You can do whatever you want for a homebrew
>>46355291
>reavers
Agree here. "Run it back?" is a perfectly acceptable way to resign early.
>>46363959
That would be in direct breach of the codex astartes, so no.Do what you want m8, as long as it makes sense it should be cool. Plus a fair few colour schemes that look nice on power armour look shit on terminators so it's a good idea.
>>46363807
>What do you have to gain?
EVERYTHING!
>>46364020
>>46364070
>>46364093
Alright cool.
I was thinking that red terminators would compliment my teal tacticals / assault etc.
>>46359133
So stop being a pussy and field your choppy army. That's what I do.
Go here for some ideas.
http://thetyranidhive.proboards.com/thread/47686/tyranids-competitive-close-combat-seriously
>>46363803
At that point the Tacticals never get to fire either, so that's a wash.
>>46363550
>can't refute the numbers or provide an actual reason why the scenario is implausible
>I'll just call him a faggot
Nice.
If the Tacticals are shooting, then the Vanguard will be able to return fire the following turn unless the Skitarii player fucked up moving his guys. Whether the marines are standing in a gunline of not means nothing, and since when has standing around waiting for the enemy to come to your been a laudable display of tactical acumen?
Skitarii are cheap, reasonably durable, and quite killy. They are an excellent infantry choice.
>>46364300
Yeah. I don't get why people are acting like they're fragile. They've got good guns and FNP. They could only be more durable if they had 4+ armor.
That said, I would like to see them get transports, if only because I think Ad Mech should have more vehicles as a whole.
>>46364362
I'd rather see another Crawler tank that gave them an increased FNP or invuln against shooting. I think they could fill a really cool niche as a combined-arms focused Imperial Arm. I fear that any transport they get will either turn them into Razorwire 2.0 or just be ignored in favor of the Alpha Strike potential of Drop Pods.
Fuck Drop Pods. OP as hell, and super cheap to boot.
>>46363474
Because that gave it shitty rules that slowly made the game more and more unbalanced and broken, so people stopped playin it. Sound familiar at all?
>>46364473
Yeah, some sort of tank that provides area protection could be cool as well, like something to project a force shield and let them march alongside.
Drop pods are a bit ridiculous just for how effectively cheap they are. You're paying maybe 3 points per model for a very reliable and accurate deep-strike, that lets you diesmbark into cover.
Even compared to Jump Packs it's ridiculous.
I do wish that Deep-striking was less reliable across the board. It should be something that you do with maybe a handful of units, risking their mishap in exchange for making a big play. Not something you do with half your list to just blow up everything right away.
>>46364491
Difference is, WHFB just didn't have the appeal of 40k. It's a different generational thing.
The difference is, WHFB was losing players and money and Kirby was a cunt and introduced rules he thought would save it but anybody could see was fucking suicide. WHFB died. But it was a slow death over 15 years.
40k is different because people enjoy it for it's hobby side more than WHFB. If AoS makes fantasy still a thing, I'll be happy. I enjoy both and since the specialist games are coming back, even more happy.
The only way I could be happier is if there was a SoB update.
I use a bikeless Smashfucker in my 1500 point games.
Am I a bad player?
>>46364608
>We are living in a world that no longer appreciates traditional fantasy, instead opting for special snowflake realms time travel ether overdesigned bullshit
Please kill me
>>46364473
my ideal skitarii transport would be a 6 legged open topped walker 11/11/10 with dunestrider, assault vehicle and outflank.
stick a twin linked galvanic rifle on there and we're golden
>>46364720
would probably cost like 60-90 points or so
>>46364608
More like GW was pushing that LOTR line so hard it hurt WHFB marketability.
>>46364681
Well, this happened long before AoS was a thing. I'm not too fussed as my Lizardmen are the same thing. I also enjoy reading too much to ignore books and shit for AoS.
Would I liked WHFB to survive? Sure. But it just wasn't sustainable and as a business, GW did a bold decision to rebrand it rather than just end it.
40k has been the top dog for at least 10 years. WHFB wasn't very new player friendly. Not a total surprise, lots of blame can be put on Kirby for that. However, I just don't think 40k will go that way simply because it's too popular. WHFB was obviously at it's lowest point and they decided to end it.
Forge World was making a Battle of Black Fire Pass campaign book, but it got cancelled due to lack of interest WHFB wise. They released a couple of models they had planned to use for it and called it a day.
I'm willing to see what AoS does. I'm happy that the Lizardmen are doing stuff, seem powerful and can actually talk, so they exist in books.
>>46364755
That as well. The main problem was New Line Cinema demanded that GW made them sub-28mm, despite GW saying it'd make more money as 28mm. NLC said "no it has to be distinct". Had they NOT done that, LOTR would have sold shit loads for proxies in WHFB.
The Wood Elves they did for The Hobbit were fantastic. But they're not 28mm. So fuck it. Funnily enough, LOTR was actually a pretty awesome game, rule wise. I loved it. It was so much more simple than WHFB. But it didn't do well either.
However, GW have confirmed they're still going to support it.
>>46364752
I'd jump all over a cheap imperial assault transport like that, doubly so if it's one you can shoot out of.
>>46364755
I'll go with this, seriously the lord of the rings range was a self imposed dead weight, it wasn't as successful as they expected, what little solace I have is the war of the ring traces they had for the game to rank up units like fantasy and that GW will use them once again, but then again they are killing all the factions and pushing their new shit models trough the players throats.
>>46364720
Assault Vehicle and Open Topped are redundant, Open Topped already lets you assault out of disembark.
>>46364896
Then Umies would finally feel the pain of having fire dragons blow up all of your transports on a 3+
>>46364755
>>46364910
I thought this too but apparently when the LotR movies first came out and were a huge hit, LotR miniature sales were through the roof.
The Hobbit not so much. It was just one of many short-sighted cash grabs GW made. There's no way they should have expected the LotR hype to last as long as their expensive contract.
>>46363128
Anyone?
No new codex for a few months.
Making me kind of nervous. Feels like it did before End Times
>>46365017
Drop the Storm Bolter on the Librarian. You're better off just taking a Combi-weapon or a Grav-Pistol. An extra bolter shot is shit, and it takes away from your free power sward.
>>46364965
Yeah, but the difference is that shooting out of them might actually kill something.
We don't have anyone running grav weapons around here.
What's so bad about them?
>>46364720
Better yet open topped gravitic and fast assault vehicle, with built in invulnerable save and it doesn't count as oppen topped for damge table purposes all of this for 55 pts to shit over the dark eldar players.
>>46365103
This seems closer to reality
>>46365080
It's mostly Gravcannons, but Grav-Guns are also good to a lesser extent on bikes. Grav-cannons have FIVE shots that wound on your opponent's armour save... With rerolls.
Two 35 point grav-cannons will statistically kill a Riptide, Wraithknight, or Dreadnight every single turn.
>>46364720
I'd like something akin to this, just more compact and open topped.
>>46365149
No shit?
I was thinking about getting a Dev squad and giving them 2 grav cannons...
But I feel like that would kill the super casual, beer-and-pizza environment I've come to love.
>>46365177
I have dev squads in HBolter, multimelta and Gravcannon. Gravcannon is always better except against superheavy vehicles, and unless i'm playing against someone i dislike, i usually leave them on the shelf.
>>46365080
Basically lots of AP 2 shots. Lots.
They also wound on armor, so they're even better against high saves.
That said, due to the stupid number of shots, except against 6+, they're still better than bolters for anti-horde.
>>46364720
Sounds like you want this though.
Why do grav weapons have so many fucking shots on top of everything else?
Guns should be assault 1 and cannons should be heavy 2
>>46365265
I remember the first time gravcannons appeared at our table.
The super friendly Space Marine player (she played casual as fuck fluffy lists) was fed up with the WAAC 'Nid player.
She brought as many grav weapons as possible and tabled him so fast that you can still hear the dice rolling months later.
>>46365306
Even if they kept them as Salvo, they'd still be pretty good with guns as 1/2 and Cannons as 2/3.
Also, it really bugs me that Devastators have Grav Amps on their cannons when Centurions are giving up an entire arm to carry one.
>>46365346
centurions with 2 grav cannons would be OP
>>46365430
i think he means devs shouldnt get grav amps. Why would you take centurions instead of a dev squad?
>>46365430
I really don't think that's what that anon was getting at. It's more the fact that cent armour configuration implies the amplifier is really heavy yet power armour can carry it no problem under-slung the main gun.
>>46365283
sort of?
i mean, more battlecrabs would fit in with the skitarii army, and an open topped one would be fragile enough to not be blatantly broken and would make outflank justifyable, while still getting vanguard where they need to go.
>>46365430
>>46365346 here
>>46365452 and >>46365453 was what I was getting at.
A Centurion carries two heavy bolters, and has to swap out one for the cannon, and one for the amp.
Thus, it makes no sense that a devastator can lug both around. It'd make as much sense for one to carry two heavy bolters stuck together.
>>46353858

>>46366560
It's ww2 but everyone is russia. If you're not taking massive casualties you're shot for being too smart.
>>46366469
They're all pretty rare, and only a few factions can take them at all. Orks can take them for everyone, while Space Marines and Guard have them limited to command retinue.
That changes in 30k, which is oddly enough now a legitimately more balanced system than the shitshow 40k is now. Pretty much everyone in 30k can take medics as *groups* of IC medics that all take up one slot.
