They were both minding their own business near each other, then one of the living animals Garruk wanted to befriend attacked her and she did what black does and utterly slaughtered it in self defense.
Garruk took offense to that and attacked her, with the fight playing out exactly how you'd excpect from a standard green stompie deck goiing against Modern Mono-B Zombies or something. The fight ended when she used the chain veil to fuck him up in an effort to get him off her back. Instead he started hunting her to make her remove the curse and she sees him more as a nuisance than anything.

What's probably particularly troublesome for Sorin was that, in his own way, he apparently considered Nahiri the daughter he never had while never really treating Avacyn like she was a person.
Now the woman he thought of like a daughter is working to destroy his realm, and turned the creation perhaps he should have thought of as one against its people, and based on Sorin's thoughts when present Nahiri came up in Tarkir, he blames himself.
I kind of want the block to end with Sorin snapping Nahiri's neck, not because I'm a frogposter or anything like that, but because it would put him in direct conflict with Ugin and we could get a scene of his telling the dragon to shove it up his ass.
Ugin gets on him about killing Nahiri and he stops the Spirit dragon in mid sentence.

Nah the story seems to show she cares about him. Black characters aren't sociopaths, they just value themselves more than others. But if one develops feelings for others (as humans do) you treat by empathy to some people as the extension of the self (in the sense that pleasure is derived from making these people happy, as is the case when romantically involved) and can genuinely care for them.
