In this particular game your starting abilities determine your endgame strength.
If you start with str 10 you will never go beyond str 15.
If you start with str 15 you can go up to str 23.
Advantages can pretty much only be picked at the start of the game.
There's also no "leveling". There's only training in particular skills.
If you want to have a good strong fighter at the end of your career, your character needs to reflect that from the beginning. Not in skill, but certainly in physical predisposition.

the point is , that plate armor and most metal armors have extremely high cut resistance and cant be cut with most one-handed swords since they are lacking a good bit of impact.
with average strength and a longsword you would deal around 12 and a saber 16 cut-DMG per slash , while a suit of plate has around 30 cut-resistance and if you add the stability system , a swords flexes and bends wich can double defense if the armor is more rigid than the weapon. thats why you cant do shit with a one-handed sword against plate. For them, and the coalition at large, an emperor was almost worse (though Metternich greatly respected Napoleon and argued, in vain, for lasting peace between Austria and France).
