How would you guys play a character with one arm?
A fighter, a rogue, mage?
What are guys ideas? Cause I'm trying to think of a character concept revolving around a character who lost most of one of their arms

If my character had one arm I'd play a boxer and the BBEG would have to be a master of the Flying Guillotine.

I'm about to start a game where I'm playing a one armed paladin, I'm playing them up as they're not only good hearted but they're just as good as anyone else in a fight, even without two arms.

so they're constantly trying to prove themselves by taking on the toughest enemies and protecting their allies.

roleplay wise, they aren't ashamed of their arm in fact they walk proudly, however they have a weak spot when it comes to failure of any degree

gonna stick around and lurk

A monk who kicks everything.

used to be a prizefighter, lost an arm, TIME TO GET CREATIVE

My friend once played a gnome wizard who lost an arm to a fire spell gone awry. Since then he's developed a severe disdain for Evocation magic, choosing to focus mostly on Abjuration. Pretty good justification for an Abjuration specialist.

Go double stubby arms and attach two hook prosthetics

For some reason the concept of a one-armed spear fighter has been in my mind for a while now. Gender and backstory are undefined as of yet, though I'm tending towards female and the idea that it's the dominant arm that she lost.
In my head the fighting also involves lots of unnecessary spear twirling and questionable moves with the remaining arm stump.

Disadvantage on all rolls requiring physical movement.

depends on the system, if its pathfinder, id do some sort of spellcaster or cavalier, and if you feel risky do a crafter - type gunslinger

They always end up a swordsman, but fighter, rogue, and even warrior-mage are all under that header so I dunno.

A rogue or a bard seems most fitting, whose weapon of choice is a cloak + dagger/rapier.

To be more specific, you have a cloak covering the side of your body where the missing arm is, and hold your weapon in the other. In combat, you could still wave the cloak around with shoulder movements to catch the opponent's weapon with it, or untie it and throw at the enemy to disorient them.

Alternatively, you can have chain mail sewn into the cloak and make it count as a shield or something. That would give up the aforementioned methods of using it, as it'll be too heavy to manipulate in such ways without a second hand.

could put a small hook on the stump to support the shaft for thrusts

Mage who builds a magic arm that only masturbates him.

Why have a magic arm when you can just Unseen Servant?

I'm rolling a noble who had his lower legs, a part of his torso and his hand replaced with a metal prosthetic as a way to justify 19 con. He rolls disadvantage for anything that requires careful use of both hands.

I like the idea of a character having a sort of metal stud grafted on the stump of what was once his arm (assuming he lost it below the elbow) on which he can "screw" different parts: one regular wooden hand, a hook for grabbing certain things, a sword and perhaps even a crossbow. His stump would more or less become an arm he can swap out for other parts at will.

I am currently playing a character with only one valid arm in a Pathfinder campain. He's not a magic user, and he has very bad physical stats because of his condition. I play him as a wandering strategist, sharing his tactical genius with people that deserve his support. I'm using a build based on the tactician (non-official) cavalier archetype + the herald prestige class. He never fights himself, and only gives advices, orders, and other inspiring commands.

So it's not a disadvantage at all? You might just have two arms at that point.

Martial artist always works. He or she could practice a capoiera-like style, all around kicks.
For a 'fighter-y' type, he or she could be some kind of duelist or fencer-like style
As a mage, it'd be neat to see a focus on levetation/"force" style spells, as if making up for his or her lack of arm

It's hard to kick shit without an arm to counterweight.

I would play him as a bard who fights with a rapier, and rarely performs. He used to be a master musician, and his voice is still amazing, but he can no longer play his chosen instrument with just one arm.

He is on a mission of revenge to track down and kill the man who cost him his arm, his profession, and ruined his life. He is basically a bard trying to be a fighter, only using his music when he has no choice because not being able to play hurts him more than the wound itself ever did, and singing is a salty reminder of how incomplete his music now is.

Yeah, this would be a problem. Along with lacking the arm for defense, which you'd want when you're starting to get close. I guess the person would have to learn to control their center of balance much more carefully to adapt for the missing arm, which wouldn't bw too hard

Depends on the system. A lot of narrativist systems wouldn't have an issue with it at all.

In Fate, if the DM is tagging your one-arm aspect constantly for physical movement then you're better at all that other shit!

in DnD, you could go swordmage. Since they just have an empty hand anyway.

I pussied out by having a character with a irreparably broken arm just below the elbow. It set badly and would break if used for anything strenuous like combat, but could still manipulate things clumsily. He had a shield strapped to his upper arm. Like I said, I pussed out.

Probably a mage who keeps attempting to find some way to construct a replacement, be it through machines, magically animated materials, or finding a suitable symbiote and sticking its face where his shoulder used to be.

Whichever strategy works, he will go completely overboard and start replacing more things. This will get out of hand.

I once played a Cleric who lost his arm from just above the elbow. Making the most of it, he had an iron hoop strapped onto the stump from which he could hang a special-made Thurible, which acted as his holy symbol.
