I usually randomly generate from an appropriate generator. I might modify the results. In Shadowrun I'll usually look through the phone book until I see a surname that looks cool, or find an online list of real surnames.
When I was a brat I used to come up with the worst kind of cringelord edgeflake names like Mars Blackdrake and Tyriathiel MoonwhisperHOW THE CUNTING FUCK DOES THE MOON WHISPER?!and to this day they still embarass me.

Classic heroes are a bit of a slippery slope, what with their connotations and the fact they often sound pretentious as hell. I used to now a couple that named their kids "Theseus" and "Medea", and you can probably figure out how well that worked for them.

i am a big fan of monsieur Poirot and a french speaker, so i dont see the issue with hercule. but i can see why it would be strange for an american to be named hercule.
