What are some good /tg/ approved Manga? and by that I mean the more DnD inspired ones, let's try to keep it non-Shonen if that's possible.

Obviously because of your OP pic you've checked out Dungeon Meshi, but for anyone who hasn't it's a fantastic megadungeon manga with great worldbuilding.

Another /tg/ style manga is Wizard's Soul, the mangaka literally copy-pasted MtG and multiplied all the numbers by 50 to stop copyright. Basically your ability in MtG is extremely important in the world of Wizard's Soul, as in, it affects grades and job opportunities and shit. It's about a girl who has a dad who buys a ton of shitty cards which turns out to be a scam, so she needs to win a tournament to get prize money to pay back his debts. To do this, she gets back into Wizard's Soul the only way she knows how, which is playing a cheesy blue permission net deck.

That's literally every shounen manga.

huh? Is it? I mean I'm only really familiar with the HST and Naruto and Bleach hasn't been about adventures in a long time. You can say Early Dragonball was but Dragonball Z definitely was more stable in where the story arcs took place.

I would have never known about this gem if I hadn't come to /tg/ today on a whim, thanks a lot! I'm only halfway through the 1st chapter but I can already tell I'm gonna love it to pieces! Almost makes me wish /tg/ could collaborate in making its own series like it.

Yeah, now I'm not sure if /tg/ got the idea for the coin bugs that eat mimic from this manga, through autism, or it was really just a common thing I had no idea about.

Nobody else know of any manga that's inspired by game settings and mechanics?

What if /tg/ created an entire world for a VR game and saved it in cold storage until the day we could implement it?
>>
Probably already being done by some people. When VR MMO's become a thing there will literally be shit tons of them at first, and those with the less impressive graphics will tank even if the story/world is good. Though more than likely they will be bought and then never used or absorbed.

Honestly, though its not a bad idea, it just would be a really, really long time before that tree would bear fruit.

I watched the first episode of that. Felt like it was mostly "popular girl fawning over NEETs dick" and "Boring MMO-mechanics replace reality". Does it get better?

since we're talking about NEETs in anime/manga. Has there ever been one where the protagonist NEET is genuinely not good looking?

Actually he gets almost zero action and none of the girls are particularly into him. Also, he does almost nothing. All the action and shit is done by everyone else. The joke is he's the lowest level loser while everyone else is super high level advanced classes. He's mostly the (occasionally perverted) straight-man. He thought it would be like what you're describing, all adventure and riches and women, but then ends up sleeping in a barn without a single gold to his name because he sucks and his party are all flawed characteristically to the point of uselessness.

Im on mobile so listen up
Berserk: Im noy explaiming why you need Berserk in your life

Blade Play: if you want comedy and Lewdness in a fantasy setting

Arm Peddler: i forget what the full title is, but just look up arm peddler manga. Essentially after a post apocalyptic future happens the world devolves and gets more dnd like. Imagine a western Berserk but Guts is a cowgirl waifu who deals guns to those who need em.

Spice and Wolf: Think a low magical dnd setting mixed with settlers of catan. Whole lotta economics and awoohs.

12 beast: mc teleported to dnd setting and monstergirl cliche

Some non fantasy and but like other table top systems or /tg/ approved ones that run through my mind is
Jackals: beefcake brown boy cleans up the streets of a crime ridden city

Jojo: same with Berserk. Not gonna explain this shit. Just think a more bizzare castlevania.

Keyman, hand of Judgement: noire esque mystrt drama centering around the death of a super hero, but becomes much more. Also the main character is a t-rex with a cat girl ex wife.

I could say My Hero Academia because its sorta Mutans and Mastermindy. But I reckon you'll hear alot about it real soon.

Could have been what? A great anime with tons of "HUMANITY, FUCK YEAH" moments? Because fighting off a dragon with an RPG is pretty fucking badass. So is attack choppers blasting Ride of the Valkyries while mowing down bandits. Not to mention seeing pissy little tower shields get torn through via assault rifles like my dick through your mom's ass. I have zero problems with the show beyond the forced harem aspects at some points.

Meh, I enjoy it. Especially how realistically the modern military steamrolls the fantasy one. Not a single loss on their side, meanwhile the fantasy army loses tens of thousands without even getting close to them. Some of the "hurr durr Japan has best army in the world" moments are a little stupid, but still fun regardless.

Sounds dull as fuck, just like all HFY. "Look at how awesome we are! We can steamroll these crippled weaklings who can't do anything to us! Are you hard yet?"

I'd be much more interested if the magic side was actually a threat that the technology side had to overcome with superior tactics and military skill, rather than just "lol magic is useless against our bullet-dicks."

Actually magic is an issue they come across. In fact, the reason they had to use the RPG to repel (not kill, just drive off) the dragon was because it's scales are basically organic Tungsten. There are also mages and such, standard magic things, but they get their own casters (refugees from the fantasy world) and such to combat it.
>>

Is there a /k/ review of Gate?
>>
>>46206462

Fairly standard shonen/seinen. Shield guy is outcast from the people that summon him cause corrupt church/government only believes in the other three heroes they summon. Shield guy is thought to be useless cause he has no offensive weapon, but proves otherwise through hardwork and being clever. Cute monster girls are his allies.

Nothing exceptional, but is a solid read. Only comes out monthly though, so slow updates.

the definition is Low fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy fiction involving "nonrational happenings that are without causality or rationality because they occur in the rational world where such things are not supposed to occur."
Examples would be, Conan, Lovecraft, the Beastmaster, LadyHawk films
Basically something akin to our world, but magic and the supernatural are: real, rare, dangerous, better left alone or simply have no contact with it.

Depending on what you're into, sure. I enjoyed it quite a bit myself, mainly because I love seeing realistic combat and felt it outweighed the occasional cringey anime tropes. The plot's nothing special, but it's not bad either. Gets a little ridiculous and shonen-y toward the end, mainly because the magazine it was running in got cancelled and the author had to rush the ending to avoid a cliffhanger. But overall I found it entertaining, I'd give it an 8/10.

Grimgar's problem isn't necessarily the writing, but that it has the pacing of an old slow anime movie like totoro or spirited away or something. Not saying it's the same quality, but it has similar pacing And with that kind of pacing the writing does actually work. But that kind of pacing fucking SUCKS in an episodic show where you only get 20 minutes a week and sometimes fucking NOTHING happens.

But after waiting a while and then marathoning it to the latest episode I'll say that the experience is massively improved by watching it all at once. And no spoilers but it's really satisfying to see them finally starting to fucking OPERATE in battle.

Grimgar's biggest flaw is starting off with that fucking awesome and intriguing action scene at the very start because after that one they feed it to you on a slow ass fucking drip. But when it's good it's good. plus dat intro.

Nobody talked about Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken.

Based loosely on Dragon Quest.
Features a really awesome BBEG.

There is a chapter dealing with properly cooking food and food borne parasites though. So it's not like it's not acknowledged in universe.
>>
>>46212857
Wait, wasn't there an issue where they had to deal with parasites?

... didn't they cook and eat the parasites?

Its handled pretty well, actually. Its not like yu-gi-oh or whatever where they play cardgames for the fate of the world. Lots of people, for example, straight up don't play, but in-setting its a fairly mainstream hobby that's very en vogue. Being good at it is the equivelent of being good at a popular sport.

At least that's the impression I got. Its been a while since I read it. Writing was pretty alright, there was some nice depth in the characters and they all came across as fairly believable.

There's a great bit where we see that the protagonist (as a wee lass) learned how to play because her mother was in the hospital dying of cancer, and the only thing they could really do to spend time together was to play mtg. Her mother never went easy on her and proceeded to curb stomp her over and over again until the day she died. The protagonist always thought that if she could just defeat her mother at cards, just once, she could save her, but she never could - her mom just became a better and better player as she slowly wasted away. Very tragic, very hearltfelt.

I can't wait for him to finally find his friends and have them be absolutely disgusted at what he has done.

Props to the writer for making the MC a flawed piece of shit slowly succumbing to his nature as an undead.

no, Laius took a bite out of raw Kraken, that's how he got parasites

I see you haven't read it for a while indeed, or that you've never played a mainstream sport.

It's a good idea taken too far and not in a humerus way but in a sad way.

> Comparing it to yugioh as a positive

Friend, if that's what you're into then we should stop here because we have very different opinions. Yugioh at least knew it was shit but that's okay because it's a kids show for norm is.

This other manga is like Christian rock. A cash grab for autistic MtG players that don't understand why society doesn't value their pointless "skill".

In mlp fanfiction, a VERY common trend is some fag going to a convention dressed as a pony, going to Equestria, and replacing said pony. This is regarded by most as up there with the red&black dracobatalicorns in the scale of shit.

Did you go into it expecting more Lodoss?
>>

Yes, I think clearly we have differing opinions. At the very least, we seem to have taken different things from this manga.

Skimming through it again just now I'm seeing that, indeed, the game is treated very much like a mainstream sport in the story. In fact, its referred to as such in the first page.

I don't understand your passionate dislike. Does the fact that the story focuses on MTG specifically upset you? Would you find the story any different if it featured Chess or Go or Cooking? Because I can assure you those are all other mangas out there. The subject matter is handled in a restrained manner and the characters are all believable and have quite a bit more going for them besides card games. Indeed, card games seem to take a backseat to a lot of the characterization going on.

Perhaps you cannot abide to see magic played by a female character? Or maybe you just can't suspend your disbelief enough to believe that it could be popular? Or maybe the comic hits too close to home? Do you find sadness in it because you cringe at the thought of magic making popular when clearly it has not done so for you? Maybe you should let go of this notion that you have to hate things just because doing so allows you to pretend you're better than others and that this makes you superior in some way. This clearly cannot be the case, since, well, look at where you are.

In essence, I disagree with you, and think that your analysis of this particular manga speaks more of your own apparent insecurities and inability to enjoy things than it does the quality of the manga itself. I also feel that you have communicated your dislike of this manga inelegantly - crassly even - and that it has negatively effected your own arguments as a result.

That said, you're entitled to your opinions and I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler. Regardless, I, personally, would encourage any third parties reading this to read the first chapter for themselves and be their own judge.

Only two, exactly two. Yes it is. But I have all the manga and re-read it frequently. One of my favs.

It's much more realistic for a guy in an all women group to become the pack mule instead of getting a harem.
>>
>>46204005
huh, is this the one with the Webm where the guy chants spell buffs for 30 seconds?
>>
>>46214716
Not sure why you'd expect Bastard!! from a Lodoss spinoff, but that would understandably dampen your experience.

I hear ya', I'm preemptively feeling bad for the lizard men.

The fact that he doesn't get with anyone and plays a pretty good antivillain is what's keeping me around. I hope he doesn't a)do a heel face turn or b)become generic callous evil.

I'm kinda hoping he does get a humbling shit slapping though, but the charcter development seems to be centred on other charcters, and it's pretty well done given the premise.
