Cool and silly magic/cursed item thread?
>>
Ring of magic detection.

Magic in nature so it detects itself.
>>
Minion Deathplate - Full plate +5
-10 to will saves
>>
I recall a magic rapier that, among normal mechanical benefits, gave the wielder a craving for Spanish food.
>>
A cursed scroll, which after cast reappears with a new random spell in the backpack of the owner, but if spell isn't cast in 2d4H spell auto-casts on the owner.
>>
Flying boots with wings, which have the mindset of a pigeon and are afraid of large birds, fire, noise, cats etc. They do as you wish normally but if they see any of the things pigeons fear they start flying away with you.
>>
>>46197084
I am using that.

>>

If I ever run a fantasy setting, these are so going into the random loot tables. Actually fuck that, they'll be a heroes quest plot item.
>>
>>46197135
Don't do stupid shit and you will be fine.
>>
>>46197126
i think it would be funnier if you get telepathic bond cast on your and the frog next to you, or shrink object on random stuff in your inventory or something like this. i wouldnt put strictly dmging spells on the scroll - it would mean everyone would think the scroll is OP and then when they get fireballed in their sleep they will whine how unfair it was because well it was quite unfair.

>The glaive itself doesn't have reach, it just magically brings anything 10ft closer to you within a radius.
>Anything outside it's magic effect radius would notice the shift but to the observer it just looks like a really cool looking glaive. At least a +3 enhancement.
>>
>>46197168
Well it was random spell.

I just immediately thought of something hilarious.

That is usually my entire party on fire and yelling.

Sorry I am that DM.

Would be funny to have it cast shrink on all their gold.

>Second Hand
>A wand that emits a random inhale type poison.
>Instead of a fortitude save, players secretly make will saves against it.
>Because second-hand smoke is baseless superstition.
>>
A rat figurine which you can throw on the ground and it will turn into a Dire Rat. The cursed part is that the rat considers everyone an enemy because it has rabies. Also it has the plague.
>>
A skeleton. It is indestructible and it follows the one who says its name. You can take bones from the skeleton and use them as magic items. The Skull is a true sight helm, the bones are different rapiers and swords with good ench bonuses. The Ribcage is a +3 breastplate which also grants dmg resistance 5/-

The cursed part is that you vow whatever part you use of the skeleton to the God of Death and after you die that part rips out of your body and goes to its temple to be made into a new such skeleton. Resurection and such don't replace the lost part. Only a 9th lvl Wish can do that, but the God of Death loses its promised body part and will be mad at you.
>>
Necklace of unbalance. When you roll a saving throw you get -2 to that saving throw and +1 to the other two. It stacks.
>>
Once had a Rapier of Feathers that on hit forced a will save DC 20 with an advantage, that gave the enemy -2 to hit for the next round if failed.

The reason being that it tickled so damn much that they'd start laughing.
>>
A bottle of neverending nourishment. It can provide water, wine, ale - anything you want. The cursed part is that it's very poisonous on sunday.
>>
Cursed gloves of dexterity. +2 DEX but if you're not paying attention to them will save or they start doing things - showing middle fingers, picking people's pockets, grabbing boobs.
>>
A cursed book, where if you write someone's name it will give you his secrets, motivation, intentions and so on. It only tells the truth half of the time.
>>
Ring of Animal Friendship. +5 handle animal but makes dogs uncontrollably hump your leg, lick your face and stumble in your feet wagging their tail demanding attention.
>>
Haunting Sword. +3 Short sword, drains 1d6 hp, makes everyone you kill haunt you and you can see them.
>>
Cursed Goldfish of Wishes. A goldfish which speaks common, it will grant up to 3 wishes but they come at a price.
1st wish - you lose 1hp per hour if you are 1mile away from the goldfish.
2nd wish - you lose 3 hp per hour if you are half a mile away from the goldfish, also if the fish dies you lose 1d4 levels. Can't be restored.
3rd wish - you lose 10 hp per hour if you are farther than 10 feet from the fish and if it dies you die as well and you lose 1d4 levels. You are immediately ressurected as a new Cursed goldfish upon your death making resurrection impossible, only a wish can restore you back to your former self.

Ofc, the fish cant survive on land so you either have to bring it in a tank or swim with it in its lake.

>>
Everdrunk ale. You can never get sober from it. Only remove curse can get you sober.
>>
A butler bell, which calls a servant called Jeeves to do your bidding. He will not do ungentlemanly things and will give you proper gentleman advice. Every time you ring the bell another Jeeves appears. They never disappear - only with remove curse.
>>
Bloody Spoon. Looks like a normal spoon, but if you use it you can only eat man flesh with that spoon from that point on. Other food makes you vomit and gives you diarrhea and no nourishment. Can be fixed with remove curse.
>>
A jeweled idol that comes to life when all nearby are asleep.

It tries to fuck with supplies in any way, untying horses, dumping water, throwing food into the fire, throwing food overboard, cutting rope into small pieces, dumping potions, etc.

if it makes noise doing so and a party member wakes up it goes back to being inert, toy story style.

>see idol in middle of room on a pedastel
>players start freakin out lookin for traps and shit
>nothing happens when they pick it up
>think they're in the clear
>then comes this little shit to fuck up their day
>>
+2 Axe of Illusion. Casts illusion spells on the target with every hit, but it's an illusion itself - it's only a shaft with no axe head. The wielder cannot be convinced in any way - magical or mundane - that the "Axe" is not an axe.
>>

Bracers of Iron Body. Pretty simple - you have Iron Body cast on you.
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Iron_Body
You can't drink while the spell is active. Can only be removed with remove curse.
>>
>>46196833
A dagger of healing. Perfect torture implement. Wounds it creates re-seal behind it once it is pulled out, and it cannot inflict fatal damage. Alternatively, it can inflict fatal damage, but still heals the wounds of a freshly-dead corpse, leaving no evidence of the cause of death, making it the perfect assassination tool.
>>
Cursed Bag of Holding - you can put as much stuff as you want in it. No limits as long as they arent bigger than 5x5ft. Retrieving items from it takes 1d4H to find, because theres so much worthless garbage in the bag, and it is linked with all other such bags of holding, but you can't take out stuff that you haven't put in there. Everything you put in it "weighs on your conscience" - or in game terms - for every 500 lb in the bag you need 1 hour more to rest.
>>
>>46197668
Actually very interesting.
>>
Cursed Circlet of Clarity - you get +5 to listen, spot, initiative, +2 to wisdom and int, but you are stuck in endless thought, unable to rest for as long as you wear it. Can be removed with remove curse.
>>
Cat of Wisdom. A cat figurine which if rubbed and asked a question will give you the answer, or good advice. For every question asked you start getting cat cravings. You start wanting to be in warm places, to grow a mustache like whiskers, to rub your head into things you like, to get crazy by catnip

>>
>>46197710
well the scroll is meant to have non-dmg spells until the party realizes they HAVE to cast the spells or they will be cast upon them. then you can put a dmg spell there once in a while. you gotta fudge the rolls a little with cursed random stuff which have such huge effects
>>
Sword of Killing - +3 Greatsword, +2d8 on crits (including coup de grace-like effects), - cursed part is that if you can take an action which will kill something (to your perception) you must take it. Includes randoms and allies. With the sword of course - not flipping switches or something - just plain slaughter
>>
Throwing knives - +10 ench, but will never hit what you intend to. 10 of them. Most of the time they will slash like butter barrels or trees or whatever inanimate object is there to be hit. Will never hit anything that can be considered sentient or an enemy or an ally.
>>
Ring of Fortitude - immune to disease and poison, but -5 CON
>>
Gravedigger's Shovel. Anything you dig with it will be someone's grave. If you use it to bash a chest with it or some other non-digging use - it will be interpreted as best as can be to make what the shovel was used for a grave - some NPC will die and be in the chest you busted with it etc. Ofc the wearer can't decide who's grave it will be. For every grave that has been dug a gold coin appears in the wearer's hand.
>>
Immortality leathers - A +4 leather armor, no check penalty or max dex, which for every point of damage you take, remove one permanently from your hp, and replaces it with a temporary hit point. If your HP run out it just spams more and more temporary hit points. You can't gain hit points from levels or any other source as long as you wear it. If remove curse is cast the process is reverted and hp goes back to normal. Lost hit points from levels can never be recovered.
>>
Lying Quill - you believe anything you write with that quill. You can only come to your senses with remove curse.
>>
Collar of Obedience - you must obey whoever you willingly put this collar on.
>>
>>46197892
This explains jrpg fashion.
>>
>>46197826
the thing here is that if you had 35 hp and then took >9000 dmg, and then cast remove curse you are back to -9000/35 hp and 0 temporary hit points, so in essence you die. forgot to write that

Favorite of mine is the overenthusiastic throwing knife. It's actually a very nicely enchanted semi-intelligent (kind of like a dog) throwing knife that returns. Unfortunately it is cursed to follow it's owner around and it is VERY enthusiastic about the flying through the air and stabbing things part of being a knife. It will jump into the players hands whenever the player makes actions that are even slightly like the act of throwing, even going to shake hands is similar enough to an underhand throw to set it off.

>>46197593
Had something like this I gave to a player once but it was good to them and gave them luck. It did all of this by fucking with everyone elses stuff and also stealing their luck. Eventually the party figured out what was going on and made the player that had it give it up.

The Dead Man's Gun

the players will find it either on a corpse, or there's a guy who just wants to get rid of it and gives it to them

the weapon has excellent stats and looks like a good overall weapon. what could go wrong?

a lot of things, actually
>>
A cursed sword that, once drawn, deals 1d8 damage to the wearer every turn it didn't deal damage, but heals 1d6 when you do. The damage HAS to be from the sword itself (knocking people off a cliff doesn't count either, and spell casting is out too.

Also, Spear of Magic Vortex: any positive spell (like healing or buff spells) cast within 60 meters of the wielder (actively held, doesn't work otherwise) immediately targets the wielder instead of the original target. In the case of multiple target positive spells, the area of effect is changed to only affect the wielder anyway. In case of continuous effects that are placed (magic circles on the ground, for example) the wielder becomes the center for the spell, and moves around with it.

Broken as fuck on that one guy, but made it impossible to heal or buff the rest of the party as long as the spear was out.

>>

>>
Animated plate armor that only becomes active when a person is wearing the full armor set.
>>
>Snakeskin Rope
Extends indefinitely, can only be used to descend.

>Unstable Heart in a Jar
When consumed, the heart merges with their own & causes them to fade in & out of reality to the beat of their own heart. Also grants slight control of pulse (training increases this).

>Greater Hat of Holding
A large top hat with a bag of holding stitched to the insides of it. Always weighs 1.5kg.
>>
a smartphone with unmilited internet access only to facebook.
>>
>Jar of War
Can be used at any time to call forth 3d6 skeleton minions. They can't be recalled.

>Magic Dagger Chanticleer
This dagger always makes the sound of a rooster. With any kind of action done with it.

>Ancient Anvil of the Strong
Can be used to reinforce gear/weapons at the cost of your stats. Your lost stats will never come back.

>Ticky Helmet
A helmet that provides excellent protection but sucks your blood.

>Cocky Codpiece
If worn it adds thrust damage to weapons. However, you literally can't stop thrusting.
>>
Biggle Bee's hand and Morty Cain's Sword
Artificial spells made by a petty artificer, tired of being mocked by wizards.

When activated with a drop of blood and the code word the hand will function as per the spell, "bigby's hand" except that it is not invisible and makes a noticeable sound of clicking and whirring.

The sword activates the same way, and functions the same as the spell "Mordenkainen’s Sword" excepting a -3 to hit, 1d10 damage, and the sword is nonmagic for DR purposes.

When the hand and sword are activated together the hand will wield the sword and float within 10 ft of you as a perfect extension of your will, as skillful compared to your dominant hand as your dominant hand does compared to your non dominant hand. Moving it or attacking with it are bonus actions and do not impede you at all. Damage is 2d10, a +2 to hit and counts as magical. However, any damage to the hand while activated as such will transfer to the user as psychic damage. A will save will halve the damage.

>Empty Brain
a brain in a jar that swaps consciousnesses with whoever touches it. The kicker being that the brain is initially vegetative, so any swapping the brain is used for will always result in a vegetative character until somebody sticks their hand in the jar to swap them back.

>neversink armor
a chestplate that has a hidden life preserver under it that activates immediately upon touching water. cannot drown or dive in armor, and -4 DEX when activated

>Ywangie's faceplate
A beautifully crafted helm that gives +2 Armor and CHA but when removed leaves its wearer with a bristling mustache (or a much faster-growing mustache) it can be shaved but will never stop growing

>Buffalo Cannon
An enormous flintlock that does 2d20 damage in a 30 ft cone. User must make a fortitude save to not dislocate their shoulder or break their hand. If successful, user is still knocked prone. 2d8 rounds to reload. Also emits a great cloud of smoke upon discharge, giving all attacks through player's hex a -2 to hit.

>Ring of Raging Bitch
This ring, when placed on the love of your life's finger, will turn her into an unstoppable tornado of childish tantrums, emotional upsets, binge eating, deceit, disloyalty, and occasional attempts to permanently and severely ruin your life. Can be removed only with the proper paperwork but the effect remains until she dies.

>Ragnar's Secret
A pretty flowered sun dress that gives +2 STR and CON, +4 to hit with Axes, and +4 Armor. It can only be worn by a large sized creature or greater.

A magical sword that always finds it's way back to the wielder's hand. If he tries to draw a different weapon, he'll find this one in his hand. If he tries to toss it away it will end up at his side the next morning. The effects start as just being curious, but over time it will start getting more aggressive to the point where extending your hand to someone will become a stab, or he'll end up unwittingly shaving with the sword.
its a mind control curse binding the sword whoever touches it first and causing them to uncounciously reach for the sword whenever the have any sort of lapse of concentration. If another party member has it the cursed PC will steal it, if they throw it away the PC will sleepwalk back to it, if they lock it if a safe covered in chains and destroy the key the cursed PC wil masterfully pick the lock and take the sword mid-conversation with another party member.

> The Amulet of Lesser Encouragement
A small golden clasp of a tiny bird on a branch; it whispers generic encouragement to the wearer (eg. "You can do it!" "I believe in you!" "You're great at this!") whenever the where attempts to do something, granting a small bonus to any action EXCEPT anything life-or-death. This counts as small noises. Whenever the character attempts to remove it, the Amulet cries and progresses through the stages of grief until it grows silent once more in 1d6 hours.

> The Pitiful Pate
A Drama Mask that, when worn, is invisible, but causes others to make a save to not be overcome with pity for the wearer. Once it is equipped, only Remove Curse can remove it.

> The Enthralling Cat
It's a cat in a bag - once released, any character that witnesses the Cat must resist a save or be FORCED to interact with it positively until they do.

> The Chalice
When the contents are imbibed (Completely, first sip to last drop, otherwise all benefits are forfeit), it provides the character with all the benefits of a full rest. Refills 24hrs after use.

> The Exasperator
A little kazoo-like horn that robs all characters in earshot, excepting the user and those who make the save, of intelligible speech for 2d6/2 hrs. 24 hr Cooldown.

Once you wear it, you are in direct contact with the Great Old God, Ur-Chin.
Unfortunately for you, he's an urchin, so you don't understand shit about what he says, so you can't follow his biding. Once you anger him enough, he rains urchins on you for 2d4 days.

A bunch of things on this site/thread feel like they could be an SCP. That site has some cool ideas
>>
>Sword of metagaming

Upon wielding, the sword will constantly tell the character all about his rolls, the enemy's saves and all that kind of info. The character doesn't understand it at all, sounds like gibberish.
>>
>>46219830
Yeah, the Jeeves one is directly taken, not that that's a bad thing. Safe SCPs make great artifacts and knickknacks, just as Euclid and Keter classes make great monsters and world ending threats
>>
>>46219907
Oh sh, I'm wrong, it's not Jeeves on SCP, It's Deeds. So that guys idea might have been original and now I feel bad for Implying otherwise

An interesting twist on this could be a targeting computer that is so advanced it compiles every aspect of the target into the users output, where it is expressed in its most condensed form (To-Hit numbers and damage resistance etc), while staying in-fluff

l odn't know, most of the keter and euclid shit looks like it would could one-shot wipe out a party. Most stuff kills a lot of people in the research, so a party finding it with no knowledge would have a tough time. l guess you could keep some stories and make them more manageable. But l'm thinking that door where like 7 of 12 keys blow you apart, or the goggles that make you see entities, but interacting with them kills you in less than a second
>>
>>46219918
it was. i had no idea about what SCP is.
>>
>>46220040
Of course the hyper - lethal ones are a little too much, but definitely setting up folk stories about the creatures before a party encountered them would help with that. Or slot the SCPs into Delta Green
>>
Ring of Mental Resistance
While being worn you are immune to any an all mind-affecting magic/compulsions, poisons and chemicals that would affect your mental faculties are ineffective and you will always disbelieve illusions.
The downside is that your intelligence and wisdom will drain over time until they reach 0. High ability score can grant you extra time but you can never wear it longer than 6 hours safely.

Lovers Quarrel
>Pair of daggers
>They have a crit range of 15-20
>However, every attack with a single one adds 200lbs to the daggers
>Only way to remove the weight is if its twin dagger also strikes the target

Essentially, it was made for two separate people to hold and stab at the same time, to assure if they ever tried to kill the other holder, it would drop out of their hands. Was the artifact from a pair of legendary assassins that, wouldn't you know it, were lovers.
>>
>>46220633
Fuck, I am using that hydra in my game asap.
>>
>>46222747
So you're literally asking for them to kill each other at the same time.
>>
>>46218388
Our party had a mud golem with a simmilar curse And I being the dedicated ranged fighter thought "oh hey an arrow magnet/second quiver". I was very wrong.
>>
>>46222809
strikes the target, as in they are both attacking the same target. It was a fail safe so if one assassin tried to kill their partner, they could refuse to act and the dagger would fall out of their now ex-partners hand. But thats mostly fluff. I designed it as an "oh shit" weapon that couldnt be abused regularly, especially by loot hoarder players.

Why wouldn't the murderer just pick up his Ex's dagger and stab her body with it, then just use both daggers? Or just kill his Ex with any other weapon and then use both daggers?
>>
>>46224451
>Pick up Ex's
It weighs 200lbs after , holding both = 400lbs. its a reactionary thing: It wont go back to normal without extreme effort or teamwork where your partner also helps (obviously intent goes into it, its fucking magic). Pretty much: If we arent together, we both fall.
>Kill ex with something else
Thats a different story. The daggers themselves are enchanted with greater killing power, so regular daggers arnt good compared. The fail safe was "your going to have a problem killing me with this dagger." Thus, the Lover Quarrel
>>
>>46224850
Why doesn't ONE person just use both daggers? Furthermore, what's the definition of strikes: does damage, touches target, draws blood, etc.
>hold dagger 1 above target, trigger dagger 2, let dagger 1 drop with 200 lbs of stabbing
>swing dagger 1, trigger dagger 2 midswing, enjoy palm sized axe
>>
>>46224850
Wait, wait, so BOTH weigh 200 pounds after one makes an attack?

The idea of two weapons that are made for lovers is cute, but you really haven't even thought about this at all, anonymous. You attack with it, and unless your lover attacks at exactly the same time, you've just crippled your lover by making her knife weigh 200 pounds, in the middle of combat.

So, you probably just killed her. Don't get too attached to specifics, especially when they're retarded like this.

Just make the two weapons completely mundane unless both are wielded by other people, and within 50 feet, increasing threat range by 5 and reducing error range by 3. If one wielding the dagger attacks the other wielder, both daggers permanently reject the user, turning on him, increasing error range by 5, and reducing threat range by 3.

It will hurt a lot.
>>
>>46225159
>>46225313

Draws blood, i.e, hit with intent to kill. Missing all day does nothing.

And its a risk reward system. I dont mind if they use it creatively like in first example. However you will be picking up your weapons often or slammed to the floor with it. Also we are betting on the second one hitting. No hit, no weightloss. I dont know if you have ever held a 200lbs with one and, but an immediate drop is going to take some bullshit tier str to hold.

Again, I have most of it as fluff: The dagger grow heavy unless both hit and are high crit. is what it comes down too.

Had a player slight of hand it into a guys belt, while another player 'accidentally' pushed him over a dockside. 3rd player knicked himself in the inn room. Boom, instant assassination looks like an accident.

I like letting my players be creative.

I gave a player a similar item, they spent three in game weeks digging holes. Just so they would have a 1/400 chance to get a gem stone worth 10 gp or less. Players will literally spend all their time digging holes and make infinite money. They won't give a shit that they are creating mass graves, hell they'll be happy that there are corpses to loot.

A map of the material plane.
Downside, it's intelligent and needs flattery to give up its secrets. (Diplomacy DC depends on specificity of request) it can't be bribed or bullied and posesses 30 hardness and 20 ER for all types as well as 100 HP that restore each day at sunrise.

If you flatter and sweet talk it'll respons politely and give detailed information on the location as well, though not all of it may be useful. The map can be consulted on knowledge geography, local and history, though its vast knowledge doesn't go deep into any one place, capping at a DC 20 in any knowledge it has. It makes a nice tour guide but its no indiana jones. Dungions may be marked but the map will only know rumors or well established stories about the place. If insulted or attacked it wont work for that person until they make amends with it through rollplay or get an atonement spell cast on them.

> Sword of Marnash
Each new wielder of the sword may slay whomever they desire simply by thinking about it, this power can only be used once, and the soul of the slain will haunt that person forever. There is no evidence unless knowledge of the sword is available to the investigation - it should not be. A la Death Note esque.
