For simplicity's sake, I'll assume EDH. Because anything else gets to just be 4-ofs all over, along with stupid cards like Fastbond, and just going infinite.
So, EDH Banlist, no infinite combos:
t1: Forest, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Voltaic Key, Gilded Lotus.
t2: Doubling Season, Heroes' Bane (enters with 8). Forest, Rancor on him. His power is 10.
t3: Forest, 12 mana, triple HB's counters 3 times. 10 > 30 > 90 > 270
t4: Rinse and repeat. 270 > 810 > 2,430 > 7,290
t5: Last round. 7,290 > 21,870 > 65,610 > 196,830
Just in time for turn 5 combat, you have a 196,830/196,828 Trample.

Forgot that Scales gives two counters for ETB effects.
But yeah, that could actually increase the number of counters on him by a good amount. Wouldn't have trample, tho.inb4 "just throw Rancor on him next turn then"
