>>46178757
I'm not much of a symmetrical drawing kind of guy, but I really like this thing.
>>46178814
I love how she has the blacksmith look to her.
>>46178792
There should be fifteen mythics, and I think they're missing a mono-green one.
Expect an unplayable hydra or some big forest beast with trample.
>>46178834
Clerics!
>>46178814
her mouth looked like it can fit 2 dicks
>>46178840

>>46178829
Sorin made Avacyn before the Mending. Now that he's been nerfed he probably can't make another.
>>46178859
i'm okay with big forest breast, oh you mean beast.
>>46178845
Its better than most symmetrical draw effects since it triggers in your end step, so your opponents draws after they've had their first turn after you play it, plus you get to draw first.
>>46178888
How did he make her? why would the mending stop that?
>>46178859
craterhoof reprint now
Anyone else feeling pretty let down? The flavour is great on this set and limited might be good but the power level is so shit compared to the original Innistrad, and they're rubbing it in with cheap inferior knockoffs of original ISD cards like the Geist of Saint Traft Aura. I wonder how long it will be before they go back to doing sets that really impact modern, the last one to do so was Fate Reforged (theros block and 2/3rds of RTR block was a dud)
The only card I'm mildly excited about for constructed is Arlinn.

>>46178859
Last time around Garruk Relentless (the only DFC Mythic) didn't count toward the 15 limit and we ended up with 16. If that follows we still have 3 more mythics to go.
>>46178905
Planeswalkers were gods at the time Sorin made Avacyn.
The mending changed that.
>yfw Nahiri is priming Innistrad for a Phyrexian invasion to fuck with Sorin
>>46178905
We don't know precisely how but before the Mending, planeswalkers could do almost anything. They weren't just world-wandering wizards, they could shape reality, make their own planes and all manner of crazy shit.
So his big achievement was creating Avacyn, an angelic entity designed to constantly keep Innistrad's supernatural elements in check.
>>46178915
Theros gave a lot to burn though.
>>46178757
What's the point of having a higher toughness on Castigator if it gets dealt double damage?
>>46178947
Oi m8 you stole my idea from last thread.

>>46178915
Also thing in the ice is going to effect a lot of formats and madness and baby jace will most likely fill an eldrazi ban
>>46178915
I really wouldn't be surprised if we see a new alternative to modern popping in from M15 onwards in a couple of years time.
Modern's dying, friend.
>>46178969
So it doesn't die as easily? What kind of question is that?
Imagine it as effectively a 4/5.
>>46178944
>>46178952
Urza did not seem that all powerful? He was getting stop by a non planeswalker.
>>46178982
Why burn is a good fair deck that keeps decks in check while not being over powered
>>46179000
Alright I'll let you off today.
>>46178915
Have any return blocks matched or exceeded the power level of the original?
I'd argue that Scars block perhaps almost matched the original Mirrordin, and RTR (the set, not the block) was as powerful as RAV
>>46178915
Personally this is the card I'm most excited about.
>>46178969
It creates for interesting reactions and actually makes it a playable card, rather than just bolt bait.
>>46178757
>4/9
>>46179009
A non-planeswalker with twenty thousand years of prep-time that had ascended beyond godhood and became the interplanar embodiment of black mana.
You cannot underestimate just how fucking insane Yawgmoth was.
>>46178915
>The last set to impact modern was Fate Reforged
>What are Eldrazi
10/10 made me respond
>>46179009
>Urza did not seem that all powerful
He found it easier to break himself down molecularly and rebuild himself facing another direction rather than actually turning himself. Also that non walker was literally the most powerful being in existence
>>46179035
Not to mention fucking collected company which now as several decks named after it in modern.
>>46178969
She scales worse with bonus stats effects like equipment.
>>46178969
so she can block a 4/4 dumbass
>>46179064
And Origins added baby Jace, Mom and Dad, and Ghirapur Aether Grid, all of which have seen modern play
>>46179009
>Urza did not seem that all powerful? He was getting stop by a non planeswalker.
That's like saying Bruce Lee was terrible at martial arts because he couldn't defeat Godzilla. One a straight comparison level Yawgmoth was infinitely more powerful than any walker
>>46179021
4+9=13
>>46178757
so they want us too use the fat ass angel with assault formation right?
>>46179030
>>46179049
Yea I realized after I down played him after I sent it but still would making an angel just be forming together a lot of white mana?
>>46179104
>implying
bruce lee never even fought godzilla how the fuck do you know he couldn't beat him? if godzilla got his balls up and attacked china instead of japan bruce lee would have whooped his fat green radioactive ass back into the pacific ocean and fucking drowned him
>>46178757
The new Red angel could be pretty nice in RG aggro
>>46179131
Is making a cake putting a lot of flour together?
I realize this is still a poor analogy, but there is more to creation than just gathering parts.
That is my point.
I think I see a use for Goldnight Castigator, henceforth known as 'big booty bitch.'
>>46179169
Then he would not need the power but just to have enough mana and the recipe
>>46178915
>Oath of the Gatewatch had no effect on Modern
Have... you actually played modern in the last couple months or so?
>>46179049
>He found it easier to break himself down molecularly and rebuild himself facing another direction
What a showoff
>>46179017
They could fuck up a return to Kamigawa pretty hard and probably still make it stronger than the original block.
>>46179049
>He found it easier to break himself down molecularly and rebuild himself facing another direction rather than actually turning himself.

They range from good to shit, so be aware.
I would still recommend them.

I really liked the Invasion arc overall, just for it being the original block I started getting cards from.
I also really liked the original Ravnica books. Not great, or terribly well written, but interesting and fun at creating a new world.

Damn. That is harsh. Guess no lover for the old stories.
>>46179538
>tfw we get a legendary Ooze before a Legendary bear

>>46179476
The difference was needing them to get to exactly 10 and then have a card in your hand to profit off it right then. This one, you drop it and now they have to play around it for the whole game (unless it's g2 and they boarded in enchantment hate)
strangely enough, with fetches, shocks, and thoughtseizes, 13 life is a common landing point for modern decks.
>>46179358
White needing sacrifice is pretty neat.

>>46179575

>>46179570
Ravnica was good too, yeah.
I also liked Torment's book a lot. I'm sure I'm somewhat biased as that was my first mtg book, but Chainer was a good character and a pretty different protagonist.

Considering that it affect all players, that you have two full turn to stabilize your life to something else and there's plenty of effect that deal damage or heal yourself it's shit, SHIT.
>>46179668
I guess you can say that this is a terrible burden to bear.
>>46179443
Save me from this evil.
>>46179588
Hidegtsu's is actually much better, IMO. There was a decent RW deck in Kami/Rav standard that ran it. Because the target number was ten, all you had to do was run all even sources of damages. You didn't have to sequence your spells or anything, you just hit them until they were at ten and then if you had the rite you blew them up.
13 is a much weirder number, plus they have a turn before they lose, PLUS if they manage to get you on 13 you're fucked.
>>46179701
I know right? I can bearly sleep at night
>tfw there're people being paid for spewing bullshit.
If I ever pull this card during a draft I will feel dead inside, as it could be any other better mythic.
>>46179575
Would a bear Commander only allow bear creatures, or any 1G 2/2 creatures are ok?
>>46179708

>4/5 haste flying for 4 is bad in limited
>>46179443
This card man...
>>46179731
A 4/5 flying haste is far from the worst mythic in recent memory.
It's still not good, mind you, but it's limited playable.
Why 'limited playable' cards are at mythic rarity, though, I can't say.
>>46179753
>4/5

A flying hasty 4/9 for 4 isn't the worst thing to pull in this set
>>46179756
You didn't count the rivets on the barrel
>>46179575
We had Yeva, who had a bear on her art.
There are bears on Innistrad, though they we've only seen 2 in the past, so keep hoping for that legendary bear. It's not impossible
>>46179772
You have to deal it 5 damage to kill it. It's a 4/5, not matter what the card says.
>>46179772
It is the equivalent to a 4/5 since it takes double damage.

Castigator is a great Limited pick. 4/5 haste flyer is pretty good, even with that downside.

>>46181046
I tried to count them but I couldn't get 13 out of them.
the big problem with Avacyn is, the flaw has been shown, since she was programable to begin with, others can reprogram her.
Nahiri found the perfect way to ruin Innistrad, and Sorin gave her the means, he did not protect her enough.
really all of this comes down to Sorin's inability to focus and maintain things, he made Avacyn because he wanted to go do shit elsewhere.
then he neglected his shit elsewhere, whatever Nahiri's motivations are, its clear Sorin incured them, even if she isn't particularly sane about it.
Sorin's selfish nature has ruined him, more than anything else.
>>46180741
Golgari and Boros charms still see play, same with rest in peace. It had good reprints as well as sphinxes revelation which sees fringe play still. also it had Dryad Militant which is a great card.

>>46180774
Voice of Resurgence was originally intended to be able to copy a token for 3 mana and give you life equal to the toughness of your creatures when they ETB, while the guild leader Trostani was originally the card that made x/x elementals, but some idiot at design decided it was super important to give trostani the populate keyword and literally switched their entire card text at the last minute.

SOI's power level looks really low as well, they just did it right by creating what so far looks like a pretty good limited environment (unlike BFZ block), introducing fun mechanics (again, unlike BFZ ones) and giving us some spot-on lore (you already guessed it, unlike BFZ). I'm really happy with SOI even if we're not getting Snaps, Geists, Huntmasters, Lilies and so on.

>>46178757
How can Wotc put these guys in the set?
>>46181073
Khans block had some good stuff. Ignore Theros entirely except for Thoughtseizes. Oath had great modern playables that incidentally destroyed modern and are now awaiting a land ban.
I'll call it now. Next blocks are going to be Kaladesh, and then a new top-down block and Return to Return to Ravnica (the last two in this order I think, but not necessarily)
>>46180895
13 instances of the letter i on the cardface.
>>46181158
Close, but not quite. Orignially, Voice of Resurgence had Emmara's text, and Emmara had Voice of Resurgence's text, but design decided that they wanted all the maze runners to have the same rarity, so they switched them at the last minute.
The design of the guild leader from the first set in the block wouldn't have had that big an impact on a card from the third set.
>>46180298
Thats actually a goose
>>46181073
A lot of stuff got banned from original mirrodin in standard for being too powerful and saw the second biggest exodus of players from the game after Urza's block. Scars of mirrodin also has a lot of cool stuff too though, like infect.

I think you might be able to do a B/R burn deck with 13 as your target as opposed to 0.

>more white unconditional creature removal
This card should be WB.
>>46181484
Do you know what unconditional means?
>>46181484
it has a very big condition, you have to sac a permanant.
a premium removal spell in the Green/White Humans.
>>46181535
Especially since it means you can sac clues and get a whole lot of value from the green.
>>46179969
How deep does this rabbit hole go
>>46181264
It would be an improvement over the current "dark angels" we're getting.
And clearly forces like the Eldrazi titans are warp entities, so there's a valid reason for some DA to show up for some smiting.

it's unconditional in the meaning that it will remove ANYTHING, assuming you can pay the cost. This is opposed to removal that can only remove certain creatures, f.ex. Smite the Monstrous. No matter the threat, unconditional removal can deal with it.

>>46181527
>>46181535
Unconditional means it can remove any creature permanently without any stipulations on the creature it can remove (must be tapped, power 4 or more, etc).
White's removal should either only hit creatures doing something white doesn't like (like being too big or attacking) or be reversible (like Banishing Light).
>>46180806
>13th card in FtV:A

>>46181975
That's blue's removal type, replacing a threat with a different (hopefully less threatening) threat. If blue got a card that simply allowed you to remove a creature, full stop, that'd be a color pie break.
Same with white. White's removal should be conditional or non-permanent.

EDH legends do not power make. And you're not compensating for power creep (in both creatures and direct damage spells). Original Rav's creatures were quite good for the time. Watchwolf made Zoo a thing. Rumbling Slum and Loxodon Hierarch were scary. Ghost Council original was better than 2.0 relative to its competition. And Bob is still good.
It also had lightning helix, remand, compulsive research, condemn, and spell snare. Signets are still the gold standard in mana rocks. It gave us life from the loam and the rest of dredge.
Original Rav was amazing. And I haven't even mentioned that it was the source of shocklands.
>>46182355
Two mana instant speed removal has always had heavy drawbacks in standard
Go for the throat was released when the majority of decks where artifact based
Doom blade is completely dead in a lot of match ups
Ultimate price was created in a multicolored block

Anyone willing to bet they make Skulk evergreen after this block is give Blue/Black a new shared keyword that isn't related to milling?
>>46182310
It shouldn't though. It does, but that's because the designers are bad at making cards for their own game.
>>46182819
I think Maro hinted a while back that they might have found an evergreen UB keyword that was coming up in a few blocks so I wouldn't doubt it. It's really bland though so it would be pretty disappointing, especially since both colors already have evergreen evasion.
Reminder that the Green mythic will be Delirium Tarmogoyf and it is being saved for last to generate as much hype as possible before just before release.

Before the Mending Planeswalkers were able to reshape reality to the point where it was easier for them to pivot all the molecules in their body 90 degrees than it was to physically turn left. Now for the most part they are just slightly more powerful than a non-walker of their same spiecies and they have the ability to Planeswalk.

They're iconic because they're powerful. "R: Counter target spell" would become iconic as well but that doesn't make it well designed. What part of white's slice of the color pie says that "exile target creature" belongs?
Believe it or not it is possible for a designer to fuck up. They have stated standards for their own cards, if they violate those standards then they have made a mistake. With that many cooks in the kitchen mistakes are bound to slip through and that's totally fine, it happens. What isn't fine is going "nuh uh designers are god and everything they do is perfect I can't hear you" in response to criticism of those mistakes.
>>46182496
You are an idiot. 4 mana, deal 8 damage? It isn't supposed to stay on the field for long.
Have you ever encountered RDW or Burn or fucking any fast deck?
It is undertuned, 5 power would've been more reasonable, but what you are asking for is legitimately retarded.
>>46181097
Sorin was the only one who showed up to reseal the Eldrazi during the original Zendikar block.
Apparently, Nahiri was too busy doing other stuff to attend to her plane. I have zero sympathy for her in this instance, as far as we can tell she's lashing out at Sorin for not upholding a promise that she herself didn't uphold.
>>46178757

Nahiri was there ready to go before Sorin/Ugin showed up.
Sorin and Ugin didnt respond to her summoning, and she left trying to find them.

>>46181073
If I had to rank them in terms of power level, the period from Shards of Alara to Return to Ravnica was pretty consistently powerful. Khans block was pretty solid as well.
Really, though, most sets are in the same neighborhood in terms of powerlevel, with a couple of standout cards that skew people's perceptions of how powerful those sets really are. Dark Confidant and the dredge cards in Ravnica, Bitterblossom and Vendilion Clique in Morningtide, Jace and Stoneforge in Worldwake, Liliana and Snapcaster in Innistrad, etc.

>>46183976
It's possible that we may get more than 15 mythics this set. Original Innistrad had 16, because flip Garruk apparently wasn't counted in the normal mythic count.

>>46184217
Show Lands
its very fucking obvious.
>>46184146
It's because it names 2 subtypes, wolf and werewolf. It's to make sure a creature that is both a wolf and a werewolf doesn't get +2/+2 from the card. For example if it was worded like usual it would be two seperate effects, or would be worded "wolf and werewolf creatures you control get +1 +1 and trample" which is very abnormal
>>46184304
ah thank you for clarifying.
Surprising how such a small thing is noticeable.
>>46184340
No problem, though I'm surprised tey bothered preventing that. I highly doubt they're will be any way in standard to make a creature both a wolf and a werewolf,
