What kind of food does your GM prepare for you during games?
>>
>>46161288
Micro-chips and megabytes.

We play over skype.
That's a very nice antipasto platter, though.
>>
>>46161288
In no particular order we have happy endulged in the following

Pepsi
Guinnes
Potato chips
Pizza
Blue candies
Lasagna
Brandy
Mountain dew
Chocolate cookies
Noodles
Rockstar energy drinks
Sprite
Popcorn
Gulash
Pudding

I don't recommend any of the foods with sauses or liquids. Theofilus, the God like sorcerer that manipulates the fabric of reality to save space and time from destruction, has pudding on him. We call it sorcerer pudding.
>>
>>46161288
We normally just get pizza from a place down the street. It makes me incredibly sad.
>>
>>46161288
The GM should be the last person bringing food, drinks, or other supplies to a game.
>>
>>46161288
>What kind of food does your GM prepare for you during games?
I usually supply an 8th (I'm in Denver, shut up /pol/) and (non-alcoholic) drinks, players bring hooch and food.
>>
>Used to get food every now and again
>Group would pitch in, except for that guy
>Pizza would arrive, he would stack nearly 60% of it on his plate
(A fucking party size pizza)
>No thank yous, no acknowledgements, would even 'joke' around and bump people out of the way to get to the food first
>Would belch and chew with mouth open
>Has the nerve to complain when he has to eat something "too spicy"
>Put fist down, start saying I'm not pitching in if he dosnt any more
>Next week, someone brings in a meal for themselves
>Hes only one at the table
>We come back and find him with 6 of the 8 wings on his plate he made from the top half of the persons food box
>"Oh, this wasnt for everyone?"

We now all hang out, maybe go out to eat before game now and make it know hes on his own. Someone even brought a personal size m&m's once and he had his hand out before the bag was even open.

And thats why theres no longer meals at the table.
>>
>>46161752
Why do you still hang out with that cunt at all then?

>captcha wants pizza

STOP TAUNTING ME!
>>
>>46161752
fuck you bitches for being all passive aggressive and not just calling him out. the dearth of social pragmatics runs in both directions apparently
>>
>>46161965
tradition at this point. hes an alright guy in game, but socially, is fucking rude. 26 and complains "Why cant I get a girlfriend?" type shit. Been to his place before, complete mom's boy. Literally neck beard
>>
>>46162019
If someone beat you with a fucking stick every time every time you hung out with them, you'd stop fucking hanging out with them. What the fuck is this "tradition" shit? Drop his ass, you're too cool to deal with shit like that.
>>
Usually soup (apparently he has no pans, only pots, so our options are pastas or soups, and one of our players has a gluten allergy), and the hellish mixture of a drink known as Red, White, and Dew.
>>
>>46161594
I used to smoke during sessions with my players. Too bad half of them can't handle literally anything when stoned and they drag the game to a stand still.

i love the salami choices, but those grapes ought to be heirloom if you want an authentic feel. they also tend to taste better with cheese.
>>
>GM preparing food

Nigga, that's why you play in a pub with good grub and a good pint.

Every session we spend the first hour and a half ordering food, eating it and chatting before we start. The chef there is amazing, and it doesn't require any prep by the GM.

>>46162217
I would like to try smoking with a group while running some semi-serious campaign, but it's hard to find the group.

If not everyone was smoking then it would become pretty awkward for them, and even if everyone was then there's always gonna be the guy who can't do anything while stoned.

How does preparing food for friends make you a cuck?
You might as well say tidying up before they show up makes you a cuck as well.
>>
>>46162473
Why should the guy who prepared a 6 hour gaming session with maps, NPCs, and a plot have to provide food?
Why should the guy who learned the rules and taught a bunch of lazy shits how to add their strength to their damage rolls have to provide food?
Why should the guy entertaining a bunch of people have to bring the food?

If the GM is expected to run the game, host the game, and provide food, why not just ask him to wipe your ass for you as well?
>>
>>46162471
How can you play in a pub? Wouldn't you be constantly interrupted, not to mention extremely anxious?
>>
>>46162511
I'm confused, are you mad at the players of the GM?
Why would would you call the GM a cuck if you're on their side? Besides, I wouldn't expect a GM to have food waiting for me, I just consider it a polite gesture.

>memes aside, no one uses coasters
>one guy moved, but would get grease and food all over the place and lick his fingers

Suffering
>>
>>46162471
None of those are good enough reasons to keep hanging out with him either. I'm gonna go back to the stick analogy, because it's a good fucking analogy.

>Hey anon, why do you keep hanging out with stickguy? Isn't he an asshole who beats you with a stick?
>Yeah, but it's all good. He lives on my block so it's cool.

It's not a justification. If someone regularly does something you don't like, you're not under any obligation to keep hanging out with them. You're using battered housewife logic to justify why you're still hanging out with this dude who you've established is a cunt. Do you even realize that's what you're doing? Because that's what you're doing.
>>
>>46161288
No GM in our group has ever prepared food for the players, but usually people bring their own gaming rations, some being ever-so-generous and sharing what they bring. No one is expected to bring anything for but themselves, but our group is rather nice.

There's been a few occasions when the host of the gaming day, or their parents, have prepared food for everyone.
>>
>>46162519
>How can you play in a pub?
Depends on the place and time.
>Wouldn't you be constantly interrupted
See above.
>not to mention extremely anxious?
The fuck would I be? I'm at a pub, not a police station yelling about how I'm gonna steal all the drugs and shoot all the cops.
>>
>>46162569
I wasn't the guy who posted the cuck comment but I would be mad at both the GM and the players if the players showed up and expected food and the GM just took it. If the GM enjoys cooking and being a great host with food that is his option but the players should never expect food on top of a great game and a place to gather.

Too many players abuse their GMs and expect them to cater to every need and bend over backwards from them. Too many GMs let themselves be door mats and allow players to ruin the fun for everyone.

Players should bring something to the game unless said player is the one hosting. The GM should never be expected to bring refreshments.
>>
>>46162511
>Why should the guy who prepared a 6 hour gaming session with maps, NPCs, and a plot have to provide food?
No one said had to, you dumb fuck.
Also, some people LIKE cooking, and don't mind cooking for their FRIENDS.
YOU KNOW WHAT FRIENDS ARE, YOU DUMB FUCK? THEY ARE THE PEOPLE YOU DON'T HAVE, JUST LIKE /tg/ IS THE SHIT YOU DON'T DO AND JUST PRETEND YOU DO ON THE INTERNET.

>it's good tea, african ruboois
>>
>>46162706
I agree with that 100%. I just got confused since I thought you two were the same poster.
I don't expect any luxuries in general, I think it's a dick move.
>>
>>46162569
He's saying that any GM who prepares food for his players instead of the other way around is an emasculated bitch-boy.
>>
>>46162519
Depends on if they're in busy hours and the general environment there. I've never RPed in a bar, but I have played boardgames and Magic and it hasn't been a problem.
>>
>>46162715
Calm down, friendo. GM can prepare snacks if he wants to but players would be wrong to expect it. The GM is already providing entertainment that he worked on so everyone could have fun.

Aight, 'ere we go!

Medieval beerstew from Bohemia

500-600 g of pork, loin works best but toher types of meat can be used
2 tablespoons butter
33 cl (one small bottle) pale beer
1 tsp salt
1 tsp whole cumin seeds
2 pressed cloves of garlic
2 cups shredded sourdough bread
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel

Cut the meat into small cubes, about 1 cm. fry them in butter and put them aside afterwards in a pot.
Pour the beer to cover meat. Add salt, cumin and crushed garlic. Simmer the stew over low heat for 20-30 minutes, until the meat feels tender.
Thicken the sauce with the shredded sourdough bread. Add the lemon zest and season with salt. Serve the stew with bread.

>PLEASE NOTE: if you have no experience with homebrewing, please find someone that does before doing this
>bad homebrew can be extremely dangerous

The Bridge Tavern's special mead

Boil-up 2 4/5 liters of pure spring water and 2 ½ liters of honey.
Skim off.
Stir in 1 deciliter of dried hops.
Allow to cool to skin temperature, then add a sugarcube-sized lump of yeast.
Allow to fermentat for three days, without stirring, at room temperature.
Strain the drink and pour it into bottles which are then kept cool.
This gives about three quarts of mead which should be consumed within 14 days

In my group a guy drinks beer burps and farts all the time, as well as stering the coversations away from the game for over an hour, and does dumb asinine shit( like roll for shaveing his pubes and making us all wait becuse he just has to take an hour ingame to shave and has to go by real time)all while yelling about it so we cant continue cuz no one can hear the dm over him. Buut he brings food booze and weed/dabs. And hes fun to be around while not playing the game.

Sucks but whatchya gunna do.

I'm not the GM, I'm her boyfriend. We play L5R together with a few other people.

In no particular order :
Chicken satay with peanut sauce
Jasmine rice prepared with cilantro & pork
Chicken cordon bleu
Hot ham and turkey boats with smoked gouda
A ton of crepes (made some savory ones for food before and stuffed dessert ones for after)
A pot of zuppa toscana

I'm not entirely sure what I plan to make for them next, but I usually cook like this because I enjoy it and because it's my thank you for the GM and players coming over to hang out and play. We have a pretty good time.

Onion Soup
0.5 liters of onions or leeks
7 cups of broth/soup stock
1 cup whipped cream
2 tbsp flour

Shred or slice the onion. Boil it soft in the broth, preferably veal or chicken broth.
Add a little flour mixed with a whipped cream to the soup before serving, let it boil up and then serve hot.

Fruit and/or berry compote
1 liter of fresh fruit and/or berries
water
honey
flour
(milk)

Fruit and/or berry compote was a common dessert in the Medieval times, both in towns and in the country.
The framework consists of what fruit or berries are in season: apples, plums, pears, gooseberries. Rhubarbs in May will be a memory for life. Clean up the berries and peel and divide the fruit. Then cook everything soft in pan of water. Sweeten with honey to taste. Add in a little flour stirred in water to thicken it. A quick reheat and then eat it hot or cold, possibly with milk.

Elderberry Porridge (for four people)
4-6 apples
1 liter unsweetened elderberry juice
300-400g of honey
75g chopped hazelnuts
4 cups (about 120g) rolled oats.

Peel, core, and cut the apples into wedge
Heated the elderberry jouce and honey gently with stirring. Add apple wedges to the juice, and allow the mixture to simmer until the apples boil down.
Pour in teh oats and allowed to boil over low heat while stirring until it forms a smooth porridge. Serve sprinkled with chopped hazelnuts.

And for those of you that hasn't tasted the glory of Glögg/Glühwien, here's the recipe for that.

2 cups of water
4 pcs of clove
1 cinnamon stick
peel from half a lemon
1 cup granulated sugar
1 bottle of red wine (can be non-alcoholic if you are fussy about alcohol at larps)

1. Add the spices in a saucepan and pour in the water. Warm up, but don't let it boil. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.

2. Add in the sugar and lemon zest and simmer further until the sugar has melted. Pour in the wine and heat until it begins to steam, though not enough for it to boil. Strain or remove the spices.

3. Serve warm.

Lammull is a older and fancier cousin of the modern swedish Glögg or german/french Glühwein. Something to make for those noblemen and women that wants something warm but don't want to drink any old tea.

To make it you need:
Applemush
3 liter of cider
2.5 kg apples
2 cups sugar
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger

For serving
3-4 liters of cider
9 cup heavy cream
2 tsp brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Peel the apples, core them and cut into pieces.
Put the pieces in a large pot with cider, sugar and spices.
Cook with the lid on until the apples are soft and mushy.
Mash them with a wooden fork against rim of the kettle and boil some more, until the consistency is smooth as diluted apple sauce. This can take up to an hour, depending on the apple variety and how big the pieces are.

Serve: Lightly whip the cream with brown sugar and salt. Mix applemush with the rest of the cider and heat it, but do not let it boil. Serve Lammull immediately in a mug with a dollop of cream on top.

Now, for evening meal or just something to warm your frozen body up a bit i can heartily recommend Tea of either berries, leaves or pine needles

Pine Needle Tea
Pick two handfuls of green pine needles. Cut them into smaller pieces. Add one liter of water and boil for a few minutes. Wait for a few minutes then strain it then through a cloth or tea strainer. Honey can be used as a sweetener.
Pine needle tea is very rich in vitamin C. One glass of pine needle tea is equivalent to 6 glasses of orange juice.

Tea of juniper
Pick one cup blue juniper berries, then crush with a stone or in a mortar. Add one liter of water and boil for a few minutes. Wait for a few minutes then strain it then through a cloth or tea strainer. Honey can be used as a sweetener.

Tea of lingonberry leaves
Lingonberry leaves can be picked all year round. They can be used as is, or dried and roasted.
>note on pine tea: ONLY USE SHORT PINE NEEDLES, NOT THE LONG ONES

My Friday group is usually pretty loaded on food, with a shitton on snacks (usually involving a cheeseboard) and the pantry full of Coke I overcatered for at Christmas, and if game starts early enough either pizza or the hosts cooking.

Thursday group is way less formal, usually a couple packets of snacks and everyone sorts their own dinner on the way since we're usually coming in piecemeal from work or uni.

Honestly I prefer my Thursday group bc I'm a cheap cunt and forking out for junk food 2-3x a week is a pain, and also bc Thursday group is more about game and less about dinner, while Friday group is more about catching up and socialising with game also being a thing afterward.

anon you responded to here

Firstly, pub is in a metropolitan city. I know of half a dozen LFGS within walking distance of my apartment.

Pub is also gamer friendly, owner is a gamer himself and there are other games running on different days with the same community.

We're normally in the back area which isn't used as much, which means there's only a few tables used around us which prevents interruptions. We also run normally from about 1-5pm on a saturday so it's not at happy hour or anything.

I've talked to some old guy who props up the bar most days, and when I've talked to him he reckons it's some pub quiz we do.

Fun fact: the majority of the "bathtub gin" that blinded / sickened people was due to adulterants the federal government intentionally introduced in order to stigmatize bootleg liquor. That's right, prohibition poisoned people on purpose to try to win an argument.

Still, when you're brewing beer you're intentionally spoiling a thing in a controlled manner, much like making cheese. When it goes wrong, it goes very wrong, and WHY DIDN'T YOU STERILIZE WORTH A DAMN MOTHERFUCKER?

Last session, it was very much like the OP pic, actually.
Homebaked bread with various meats and cheeses, as well as wine. Also, lasagna and moussaka, with Oreo cake for desert.
She's a right sweetheart when she's not killing our characters like flies.
>>
>>46164852
Not quite as complicated as distillation, but my gaming group regularly makes riot punch/shaky juice/hucklebutt brew.
If you couldn't guess from the context, it is basically like bathtub wine. But in none of the above is real fruit used.
It is cheap, gets you drunk, and you have the cameraderie of having all brewed it as a team.
But the two most important things are a) sterilization and b) filtration.
When everything is sterile, then there is basically nothing that can make anyone sick. But filtration is still pretty important. One time we made 10L of huckle for a camping trip, and in our haste, did not filter enough. It was mostly fine, but the farts, man. The farts never stopped. It was a hell of gassy expulsions.

These days we are all adults with money, gainful employment, and families, so we mostly just make riot punch once a year for the big early fall group cottage trip, and even then, the wives scoff at us and sip their wine. But it is tradition. Has to be done lest we forget who we are, and lose ourselves in the hustle of modern life.

Sometimes my group will spend the first hour of the game in the GM's kitchen while we work together to make something for dinner. Since our hands are occupied with cooking tasks, we'll cover things that can be done without rolling or writing, like going over a recap of last session, talking about what our characters do in their downtime, planning how we will tackle the next challenge, and so on. It's a very pleasant way to start the evening, overall.

Cooking for my group is a highlight of my week.
While to them coming over and rolling dice while eating great food is the weekly stress reliever, to me the best way to end the week is to watch my friends chow down on some silly thematic recipe that I had fun researching and making, while guiding them through a fun story.

I think the funniest evening is when we did a pulp sci-fi one shot and I made "protein cubes" and a bunch of "alien" foods for us to share. They tasted great, but some of the textures were weird.

Regardless, good times.

Right? He's prepared the game and planned out encounters and quests.
I'll usually bring:
- one or two pizzas
- some chips and salsa
- some kind of sweet, easy-to-eat item (usually cookies)
- a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper or Coke

If he has any special requests, he can text me.
When I get more money, I'd like to do a much nicer spread. But everyone's pretty low-maintenance, so I work with that.

Someone else will usually supply rum, honey mead, or beer.

I was that person the first time.
>take a couple of hits
>what are we doing again?
Fortunately, it hasn't been a problem since.

Games are all online.
But when we were analog, as GM, I didn't make squat for those ungrateful bastards. Everyone pitched in for food, or I'd eat in front of 'em from whatever was in my fridge.

Not joking, I'd have no problem playing with more people every now and then.
I can't imagine you're in the 830 area though... it's not exactly the capital of tabletop RPGs.

>GM was a chef for years.
>Paid his way through an engineering degree cooking at a not bad restaurant.
>Dude loves cooking and baking.
>He'll cook stuff then give it away when he is bored.
>Since we started gaming with him he has rolled out three course meals for every game.
>Never asked for any assistance with grocery bill or anything.
>We started pitching in because we felt bad taking advantage.
>He is a pretty good GM too.

How did I get this lucky?
>>
I cook and bake habitually to fend off crippling depression. I've gotten fairly good at both.
Depends how i'm feeling but i like cooking up meat stuffs and baking sweets like banana bread.
>start dming at my home
>new to DMing and my tabletop career has been with close friends so couldn't pick out social autism till its right in front of me
>try to be nice and polite so when autist one asks if he could munch on something i say sure theres some chips
>just make sure to share
>disorganized cause i haven't done this before so i gotta go in the next room to get the table all set up and extended for gaming
>loud ass sound next room over after a bit
>autist one and two are fighting
>autist one refused to share HIS doritoes and autist two refused to eat anything else
A fucking fistfight over chips
>fast forward a bit mostly new group but 3 keepers from last group
>takes maybe 3 sessions for it to be known i'm a decent cook and baker cause i enstated a BYOF rule
>agreement struck between me and group shortly afterwards
>get paid by my group to make shit for them now
Sad bit is after a year its starting to feel like a chore cause now they try and make orders rather than letting me enjoy myself and making shit that comes to me.
Big issue is shit like:
"I'm a vegetarian." Which he tried to actually refuse to have meat in his presence but now wants me to make a dish wholly for him.
"I have allergy x." Actually 2 people one of which is peanuts and deadly which is understandable but the other claims gluten even though its been debunked AND he's eaten shit tons of pasta before and never complained.

I got out of the restaurant business to get away from retarded customer shit like this so hopefully they'll understand me shutting that shit down.

Tea is the motherfucking shit. It's like coffee you can drink constantly throughout the day without getting wired.

Now, I saw some classic medieval recipes floating around earlier, so I'm just going to drop this here.

And another one. Hope it gives some of the culinary inclined among you some inspiration.

I've done the pizza thing, the chinese thing, the homemade meal thing, and the Dew and Doritos thing, but frankly I think the best food for an RPG session is pic related. It's big enough that everyone can graze on it without much thought, lightweight enough that nobody feels like a fatty or at least I don't for having it, inoffensive enough that pretty much everyone will have some (unless you have a vegetarian in your group), and doesn't give anyone gas or breath or any bullshit like that.

Vegetarians need to quit with their shit or quit complaining.

If I still GM'd, I'd probably prepare hot cocoa, milk, tea, coffee, biscotti, chocolate chip cookies, filtered ice water, grapes, and maybe some cheese. Depending on the weather and the people in my group.
>>
Usually just pizza and lots of beer.

Herbal tea is not good tea. It's barely fucking tea.
>>

Ever had Genmaicha? It's that dope tea they serve at every Korean BBQ ever. Man, it's got that rich, sweet smell and that incredible grain flavor... Shit pops like popcorn when you brew it, it's cool.
>>
>GM's boyfriend cooks for us all
>He has a rotating menu
>It's all god-tier international cuisine
>Last week was eastern Spanish
>This week it's Eritrean
>Even when he's not there, GM makes amazing pizza

Life is good.
