I always thought it was odd that projects like these actually manage to get abandoned in the first place.
As long as there's a version of the rules out, any tosser can start a branch if it seems like the original designer got bored or kicked the bucket.

It's not like you don't have the source code to compile from or whatever.
>>
Zelda RPG, Mario RPG, and CATastrophy all come to mind. I would have said DBZ a few weeks ago but I've been seeing it recently crop back up.
>>
>>46151717

OP, you know that was completed, right? Playtested and everything.
>>
Honestly, I always wanted to see more of /tg/ unified setting, especially since 5e's come out since it was set up. Need me some Corgi statlines.
>>
>>46151717

That's what you get for using Papyrus outside of an Undertale thread.
>>
Most of them are/were incredibly stupid and spergy ideas anyway, especially CATastrophe, Villains Victorious (how edgy can you get?) And Dungeons: The Dragoning

Leave game design to the professionals. Hacks and small scale homebrew are fine, but the bigger the project the more of /tg/s autism gets in the brew

A few weeks ago there was a guy compiling some homebrew rules and setting fluff for a post-human sci-fi dark souls style game called Lost Source.

It kinda petered out, but I didn't grab the latest PDF and wish I had because they don't seem to have been archived and the ideas were really cool.

Enjoy your Monte Cooke nonsense and only ever getting to play when you want to rerun a module like some sort of tabletop vidya while the other children come up with their own stories. Homebrew is the heart and soul of tabletop gaming. There would be no campaign if the DM didn't homebrew his story and the players don't homebrew their characters. Why should systems be kept in some ivory tower guarded by Coastal Wizards?
>>
>>46152174
>I can't refute anything so I'll talk about buzz words

Alright, let me rephrase.

/tg/ projects inevitably suffer from the mixed bag of opinions anonymous crowdsourcing provides, and lackingnany coherent or mature leadership either inevitably get hijacked by a single anon or group of anons with dogmatic views not shared by the rest of the thought cloud OR becomes bogged down in trying to include everything. This problem is exacerbated by an overall lack of maturity in the general community who is providing the thought cloud, leading to ideas that are stale, trite, or so fringe as to be laughable.

/tg/ is great at taking things apart and figuring out how they tick, tinkering with existing structures, because they have PARAMETERS to work within. Given creative freedom however it shits all over itself.
>>
>>46152207
>Why should systems be kept in some ivory tower guarded by Coastal Wizards?
They shouldn't be but they aren't the sort of thing you crowdsource from a bunch of anons on the internet either
>>
>>46151717
>vanished into thin air.
Nah, it just left to reddit where it belongs
>>
>>46152127
I dunno, having a thriving amateur game design community can only be a good thing.

Not to disparage the professionals or anything.

>>46152222
This was probably a much more useful description anyway.

Good riddance.

Shame too, they where all pretty solid.

Sanguine Shields is just muh mad Max meme.

Biomarines was a stupid idea from go

Sunken Angels? You mean. EMP LASERBEAM DEATH ALIEN FISH LMAO?

Hua Yuan has had a thread every day for a week and hasn't gone anywhere. Looks like it's getting too overly complicated, IMO.

Don't know the rest

wasn't the core bit of that Completed?
I mean the CN, Gridlocked, and Other shit vanished into thin air I know and moved to reddit but still. I don't think that quite counts as "vanishing".

If we wanna talk projects that died pic related.
>>
>>46152758
Oh, I see. You're a retard.

Sanguine Shields became way more than Mad Memes, if anything they where more MGS thematically.

Clearly you didn't read the Sunken Angels thread, dear autistic child. The stupid Squid shit got retconned early.

Hua Yuan has come a far way. You would know that if you actually read the wiki.

I wouldn't suspect you would know the rest. You seem to only be here to act retarded.

I actually ran a game of Villains Victorious in Fate a couple weeks ago. The wizard tried warding the party's townhouse against spirits. Needless to say the Friends didn't take too kindly to someone trying to keep them out of a building in their town and the place was put under siege by a New Orleans voodoo parade.

>"ARE YOU READY!?"

"NO WE'RE NOT!"

Some clones and salt rain later, and the party's fled the city until heat dies down. In the meantime, the librarian's secret society wants him to recover some artifacts from a mysterious manor in the bayou.... (They've not caught onto the fact it's a Disney setting yet and it's glorious)

my personal favorite of these was Deus Volt, I would try to revive it myself, but I still can't figure out a good way to summarize the setting in an accurate manner that properly gets across how cool it is;

Endhammer, I really liked the ideas for a warhammer world that avoided the end times, but it just sort of faded out after some fan stuff.

Well, honestly if you tell people about things upfront, of course it's gonna sound trite. But when you dress it up like you should because settings deserve some mystery, then yah, it works.

Also, it's a great intro to RPGs for the scrubs I'm running it for, and they love Disney, so I'm waiting for the look on their faces when they get what's happening.
>>
>>46154178
>because settings deserve some mystery
There's mystery and then there's hiding the central conceit of the setting because you're too embarrassed to tell your friends you're forcing them to play Kingdom Hearts Lite.

>>
>>46154178
As someone who hasn't watched a huge amount of Disney movies, how do you run a Disney-style campaign without explicitely mentioning Disney characters or locations? What tropes, hooks and quests are very clearly 'Disney'? What do you think will make your players realize what they're playing?
>>
>>46151717
If it weren't bullshit on /tg/ I would have guessed that Disney probably sent a C&D order.

you have to admit it an interesting concept with potential. I admit I was overselling its quality somewhat but it could have been great.
>>
>>46157488
No, it really isn't. It is wanking over teenage girl version of the primarchs. It is pure waifu baiting.
>>
>>46157488
It started out as a weird little joke about the Primarchs as terrible fathers with some cute pictures, then someone got it into their head to write awful novels about it. I still don't get how that happened.

Like how most of these things happen: /tg/ takes a mildly interesting or entertaining topic, circlejerks about it as if it was solid gold, and then runs it into the fucking ground.

I stopped working on my original Night Shift system because I failed to get adequate playtesting information.

The pitch script for the Night Shift television show is completed, as are several episodes. The five episode arc is sketched out. The show obviously went nowhere.

I've recently decided to try making a bottom-up original Night Shift RPG system.

I don't know what it was. I'm pretty sure it started as some kind of family sitcom with the primarchs as wacky dads approaching stock situations like "family outing to the beach" in over the top ways and being as petty as shit to each other. Just a fun little joke thing to while away a few threads. Then it became A Thing

>>46158421
Yeah, that sounds about right, but I just went to check something and a guy wrote something in the order of two War and Peace sized novels on it and I'm honestly sitting here fucking baffled.
