Burn from Within
(X)(R) Sorcery

Burn from Within deals X damage to target creature or player. If a creature is dealt damage this way, it loses indestructible until end of turn. If that creature would die this turn, exile it instead.

Looks like Chandra kills sorin.
>>

Hello fireball, my old friend. It looks like you have changed a bit recently.

>this card being rare
>>
>>46136788

It's a pretty damn good card for a rare.
>>
>>46136788
It's not Fireball, it's Blaze.
Strictly better Blaze.
>>
>Let's make a mechanic only to make other cards that ignore that mechanic and render it worthless!

It's hardly worthless if there is a very limited number of cards that do ignore it.

>>
>>46136933
Who the fuck takes indestructiblizers to deal with burn?

(This was brought to you by someone who likes to complain and hasn't played standard since the original innistrad. If the meta is that shit now, may God help us all.)
>>
>loses indestructible

you don't say
>>
>>46136535

>>
>>46136933
>burn removal is now cheap as fuck anti indestructible

XR is hardly cheap. If you're paying 5 mana at sorcery speed to take care of a single indestructible creature with 4 toughness, you're overpaying in every color except green.
>>
>>46137025
You could also use it as X=1 after dealing that creature some other damage, like combat damage.
>>
>>46136535
Why can't this be a fucking instant?
>>
>>46136933

And non-targeting can get around protection.

Nothing is invincible.

Indestructible still ignores 90% of your burn. Just not one, single target spell.
>>
>>46136933
I came here to laugh at you. Burn spells, along with kill and counter spells, have been getting higher costed and more specific as time goes by. In short, worse.

That card is nice, and a potential sb card to deal with indestructible, but its a mana sink that causes tempo loss compared to other options.

This >>46137057 isnt a bad use for it but it still requires you to deal other damage to the creature or drop a kill spell/wrath to get rid of it, which is 2 for 1ing yourself when there are other options. Admittedly the other options are in non red colors, but they are there. I expect the card to probably see fringe play and nothing more unless indestructible just becomes that big of an issue.
>>
>>46137131

Yeah, I doubt it will be 4 of for most decks unless they suddenly reveal a 5/1 indestructible monster that everyone wants to run.
>>
>>46137131
I mean >>46136841 is objectively true and blaze is a pretty old card.

specifically, burn is not allowed to have nice things because it promotes playing with fewer creatures. Creatures are the most important card type in magic and every deck should play lots of them.

>This shits over established lore so hard
How?
>>
>>46139484
Darksteel, the original "indestructible" material, is so metaphysically powerful and so durable, that the act of reforging darksteel isn't actually reforging darksteel, it's locally rewriting the universe around the darksteel to persuade the universe that the piece of darksteel was that shape all along. It's -easier- to do than melt darksteel.

And this spell here clearly shows that, apparently, some internal heating (not even at XRR cost, just focusing a Blaze inside the target, more or less) trumps that.

Yes, I'm mad.
>>
>>46136535

>>
>>46139523
The flavor is that the reason things are indestructible is because they have an outer coating so hard that it cannot be penetrated. So how do you circumvent that? By killing them from the inside out, where presumably they are still squishy or vulnerable in some sense.

Spell costing should not have any bearing on flavor, stop being so fucking autistic

The majority of Darksteel things can't be hurt by this. As they don't have P/T.

Heck, the actual Darksteel Colossus would require NINE mana to kill.

I'm going to say 'Nine mana worth of effect is enough to destroy darksteel'. Literal omniscience is a single mana more than that.

Also: Darksteel Collosus can already be destroyed by putting -1/-1 tokens on it with a Wither creature.

While I agree with your passion anon, something that needs to be considered is that Magic lore falls apart through card interactions.

You have Eldrazi Titans that can slip to death, or the various saviors of Mirrodin wearing enough Phyrexian equipment to make Yawgs blush. How about turning a Treefolk into more of a tree via Lignify, or Dismembering oozes, or Karn wielding Karn in a duel against Bolas wielding Bolas?

It's a pointless exercise to get angry over Magic effects affecting each other in ways that break the rules since even within the same block it's possible to do so.

MaRo admitted it was on accident; they preferred the symmetry of having the -1/-1 turn into a bigger -x/-x effect rather than turning into a destroy effect, and Innistrad had that whole 13 subtheme going on. I understand the reason why it happened even though I don't care for the outcome.

Buuuuut Black/White could already exile creatures and Unmake can technically be a mono-black exile, which gets around indestructible. Tragic Slip didn't really add anything new, it's just a new way of doing it. This card specifically gets rid of Indestructible, something Red has never had access to as far as I know, because reasons.

Rarity has nothing to do with how many of a given card there are in the meta. The Eldrazi cards that are currently eating Standard and Modern alive are rares. Maybe you need to step back for a bit, take a cold shower or something. You're getting really hot-headed over absolutely nothing.

This is a thread about discussing new cards, which will have an impact with the different formats people play. If they cannot discuss the different formats, but just the new releases alone like you propose, then all that will happen is the threads will simply fade away.

To grade a card's usefulness would require evaluating it in the different formats. If you simply graded it on it's own with no environment to evaluate it in, people would call it shit and that's that.

If you have enough mana to kill ulamog with that spell, wouldn't it just be better to hit them for 10 in the face? I mean if they cast ulamog and are still at 20 life, the game is already over

I'm going to attempt to save you a lot of confusion and frustration down the line, and just let you know that you can safely ignore basically anyone who mentions NWO in their post, as there's a roughly 99% chance they have no clue what they're actually complaining about.

Darksteel isn't even in this block. If you combine the flavor of cards from a variety of sets then of course you can ruin the flavor of the game, duh. Nicol Bolas can wield Nicol Bolas as a weapon and you're upset that fire can burn an unburnable thing?

There's obviously going to be a new Thalia.

Whether or not it will be in this set is up for debate.
>>
>>46139834
warp world, get gud scrub
>>
>>46145147
It's also fairly easy to reconcile the flavor in this case anyway. Presumably darksteel creatures aren't entirely made of darksteel, but rather are comprised of internal parts made of easier to work with materials encased in a darksteel shell. In this case, the spell isn't actually doing shit to the darksteel, it's melting and destroying the internal components that make the creature any more than an inert lump of indestructable material.

Now, if this could also destroy indestructable artifacts on top of creatures, sure that would be silly. But that's not what the card does, and that Anon is just being autistic.
>>
>>46145748

I'd argue that that's not even an issue. If enough colorless mana can rewrite the universe to form darksteel why can't enough red mana rewrite the universe to unmake darksteel? Reality warping isn't a process known for its directionality.
>>
>>46145875

Red can totally melt down all artifacts.

What you're talking about isn't really a precedent for design, it's a question of what the intended goal of the design is. If the goal of the card is to give players a reward for drafting human tribal decks, then sure your way makes the most sense. However, if the intention is to make a flavorful top-down design of a weapon that's made of a material that has special anti-monster properties, then it makes more sense to specify which creature types can't use the weapon.
>>
>>46139523

The problem is that people tend to want every card in every set to be designed according to their preferences, while WotC out of necessity designs different cards for different purposes. Lucky for them that the vast majority of people who rage about cards on the internet either forget the things that made them rage once they get the cards and can play with them, or were never actually going to buy cards in the first place and just want to bitch.

>>
>>46150398
I'm actually really curious how much multicolor support there's going to be in this set. We've already got 5 mythics and a rare, and presumably there'll include the typical cycle of uncommons.

Seems rather heavy, given that there was a grand total of 4 multicolored cards in the original set (5 if you count garruk's flip side), all of which were at mythic.
>>
>>46150509
err... all but one of which were mythic. Forgot Evil Twin was a rare.
>>
>>46150209
No, we deserve a nonflipping legendary werewolf that either keeps werewolves transformed or gives you some hugeass benefit for letting them flip back and forth.
And there was a werewolf last time around that never changed out of werewolf form, too, one of the three major packleaders, forget which one it was.

>>
>>46150731
There's some prior to that from waaay back when as well, but again, they've already got in the lore a werewolf that doesn't transform. Having him be the legendary solves the problem they had first time around that kept them from having one back then (multiple copies that are on different sides and the legend rule, then one or the other transforming, costing you one of them)
>>
>>46151235
I always figured the solution to this problem was simple just have it say on the front and back that it's name is also X

Like for example

Human Ballcrusher // Werewolf Badass

On the front "this creatures name is also Werewolf Badass"
