As much as I know this is bait, I'd like to go on anonymous record and say I fucking hate this trope/idea. Humans are an immensely successful animal. All living things are constantly competing with the other parts of their biosphere to be the most successful. Nothing cares about balance or planetary health, except for humans. Beavers are a good example. They frequently destroy the habitats of other animals to make room for their own more comfortable environments. Sure, there are species that have evolved to make better use of those new environments that beavers have created, but you could say the same about human environments. Similarly, invasion species are a great example of how little nature cares. While they are more common now thanks to human intervention, we can assume they happened naturally plenty of times. The extinction of the large terror birds in South America is thought to be a direct result of being out competed by big cats and wolves that emigrated from Eurasia via the land bridge across the Pacific. Widespread extinctions of native fauna almost always quickly followed the introduction of newer more competitive species from other locales. Humans are just the most successful and widespread invasive species. We're not special in any way, just better. That's not even HFY, that's the truth of the matter.
