So with units getting cheaper and cheaper and armies getting consequently larger and larger we're getting less and less YOUR DUDES.

So my question is you have a YOUR DUDE ? That one model that's the main hero, like a Emperor Champion who's duels you write down, a sniper HQ that you use to hunt enemy heroes, an Imperial Knight that you use to hunt down enemy monster creatures and painted your own original heraldry on ?
>>
>>46018669

I just use a veteran sergeant because I don't want to be too snowflakey. Plus all my HQs are based on existing GW characters already.
>>
>>46018669
sly marbo is my guy

>>
>>46018669
Both my Dire Avenger Exarchs are heads of Rival shrines and constantly vying to out-feat each other. One always plays defensively, protecting objectives and HQs, while the other rushes in like a hotblooded fucker every time.

So far the younger, brasher Exarch has proven the better, killing Deathwing knightmasters, Purifier Knights of the flame and Honour guard, and wiping bike squads and the like. There was one time when his entire squad ate a plasma cannon, but we don't talk about that much.
>>
>>46018669
My Dark Apostle has kicked some serious ass in my games. Let me list off his accomplishments that I've taken note of:

>He insta-killed a Leman Russ Punisher in a single turn (S6 + 6 Armor Penetration = Pen = Wrecked)

>He rolled a Gun Morph for his Gift of Mutation (+1 S to a single Ranged Weapon)- Took a pot-shot at a Chimera because it was the only shooting target in range. Wrecked it (S5 BP + 6 Armor Penetration on that AV10 side armor), then he and his unit of Flamer Chosen charged the Meltavets that poured out of it, and killed them all in a single round of CC.

>Single-handedly turned the tide of a game by challenging an Ork Warboss to a fight - and killing him before he ever struck a blow.

>On two separate times killed a Bloodthirster in single combat - this is all the better because he's Slaaneshi

>Saved my Chaos Lord form being turned into a spawn - and instead turned him into a Daemon Prince.

>Drowned Eldar Banshees in the blood of Cultists before ripping the head off their Exarch (didn't even suffer a single wound in that duel).

>Killed at least three separate Chapter Masters in CC, all of them in Terminator Armor.

>Survived a fusillade of Guard Overwatch to charge head-first and pulp the Lord Commissar before he ever landed a blow.

These are just off the top of my head. I have some homebrew stats for him that I like to use with my buddies (We're usually pretty cool about reasonable homebrew characters, especially if the model in question has excelled on the table above and beyond what it should).

Here are the stats on him, in case anybody cares.

The Prophet - 185pts

WS5 BS5 S4 T4 W3 I5 A2 Ld10 Sv 3+/4++/FnP(5+)

Warlord Trait: Icon Incarnate (All units within 12" benefit from his "Without Fear, Without Mercy," special rule and the effects of Demagogue are expanded to 12"; if he is killed, all friendly units on the board must immediately take a Leadership test, and if failed fall back to their deployment zone).

Wargear:
* Master-Crafted Bolt Pistol
* The Hand of Enlightenment (Power Maul with Daemon special rule, hits at AP3 on the charge)
* The Armor of the Prophet (Power Armor that re-rolls failed Armor saves in a Challenge)
* Frag and Krak grenades
* Icon of the Apostate King (Counts as both a Sigil of Corruption and an Icon of Excess)

Special Rules:
* Independent Character
* Champion of Chaos
* Demagogue
* Champion of the the Dark Prince (All friendly models on the board may re-roll Chaos Boons rolls if they have the Mark of Slaanesh)
* Fear
* Without Fear, Without Mercy (Model and unit is Fearless, count as having the Hatred special rule on the first turn of an assault).

He's a very beefed-up Dark Apostle that is a pretty damn good unit-buffer, but he's still a T4 Sv3+ model and vulnerable S8 AP3 (which in my meta isn't rare).

In the long long ago,in the before time when 40k was good I used to have a Tactical marine with a melta gun.

In one game with a buddy of mine I lost super bad and this one tactical marine was the only figure I had on the table. We decided to keep playing until he died and through some miracle he survived 3 turns and managed to kill both a rhino and a predator before being taken out.

I built a veteran sergeant with bionics (he was wounded in the battle clearly, but not killed), melta bombs, and a combi-melta. I would have given him tank hunter if I could.

After a few more games of tank busting and being the MVP I built a captain with the same gear plus a power fist and a jump pack. I modeled the combi-melta and power fist tolook like the gauntlets of ultramar.

Brother Fiodor, He was my dude.

>Playing Renegades and Heretics vs Space Wolves in a modified version of the Relic in Kill Teams.
>6-ish Space Wolf Grey Hunters and 5 Sniper Scouts start in a building trying to escape to a board edge with a piece of archeotech with Renegades surrounding the building to try and prevent them from escaping.
>My list is an 50-strong infantry platoon surrounding the building, half with autoguns and militia training for BS 3.
>One guy gets a Plasma Gun and is chosen as a specialist with Ignores Cover.
>Grey Hunters make a break for a board edge while the Scouts cover their escape.
>Plasma Gunner blows through two camo-cloaked scouts, rest of the scouts BTFO by weight of autogun fire.
>Grey Hunters split off from the Relic holder
>SW bolter and chainsword their way through 20 Renegades over the course of 4 turns, losing 4 guys in the process.
>Relic holder about to get away.
>Plasma Gunner spent 2 turns running after the GH and is exactly 24 inches away from the Relic holder.
>Roll to hit: 4
>Wounds, no saves.
>Rest of the SW are too far away to grab the relic.
>Turn 5 ends, game over, Renegades win.

Pic related, he was the model I used for the Plasma Gun.

I have a Deredeo Dreadnought as my Dude. His name is Ancient Valentine, Former 1st Company Captain and Former first in line for chapter master. He is 6000 years old, and is quite legendary in his chapter for his burning hatred of xenos monsters.

Valentine is at this point in my chapter an honourary leader, who often goes to battle in direct command of parts of companies. While he's not formally in charge of his own company, his more lively brothers still look to him for leadership.
>>
>>46018669
>with units getting cheaper and cheaper
what
>>
>>46022131
Oh, here's some of Valentine's exploits
> Killing 9 tanks over the course of 5 turns against an Imperial Guard army
> Single-handedly killing an Imperial Knight in a single turn.
> Bringing down a trio of flyrants
> Solo-ing a Space Yiff's entire roster of AT longfangs, and thus leaving him without any anti-armour.
> Solo'ing the apocalypse formation of hell-turkeys, before they can wipe too much of my army.
>>
>>46022145
He means points, not dollars
>>
Bought my Imperial Knight and I'm still trying to decide which pattern will he be. I'll probably paint him as a free blade or my own house, just trying to come up with a story for them.
>>
>>46022216
How much points they costed exactly vs the cost of the Dread ?
>>
>>46018669
I have a Chaos Space Marine Khorne Bezerker sergent with a powerfirst who punched a Valkyrie to death and because of that I took the time to paint them up extra nice.
>>
I have a particular junior officer that managed to kill two monstrous creatures in single combat over the course of one game.

From that time onwards he always had the honorifica Imperialis.
>>
I have a few squads that always roll together, and I tend to decorate individuals that have put the work in.
First and foremost are my twin squads, a veteran tactical, sometimes biker/sternguard, squad named GET DUNKED (it's on their bases, srsly), that I send on suicidal runs to high priority targets with a 65/35 odds of success.
My ballerest single model is an Ultramarine captain, 4th company, that has, to date, taken on and beaten every single HQ in the game, save Smashfuck, Swarmlord, Abbie, and Vect when you could still field him. He has so many honors I can't actually do MORE to him without stripping the entire model to base.
I have a landraider that exists to tankshock Nids, and so has nid trophies and guts hanging from it's hull.
I have a LR Terminus that has 7, count'em, 7 confirmed titan kills, 5 knight kills, 2 bio-titan kills, and 1 manta kill. Yes, a fucking manta.
The lone stormtalon is making it's way, and has soaked impressive amounts of fire, taking on entire squadrons of Imperial fighters, sqwadrons of deffcopters and dakkajets, and once spent an entire game dueling a hell turkey. Now I make sure I grab the Ace upgrade for the pilot, he is a magnum fuck.
>>
Haven't had this problem since I stopped playing 40k.

my company command tank in my armored battlegroup army will always seek out opposing tank, monstrous creature, or warlord kills, since any of those are a kill stripe he can paint onto the barrel of his tank. So far he has three, one from a Necron Lord he killed in a single shot, one from a carnifex, and one from a Harlequinn void reaver.

this is an old picture, but I have added two stripes since I took this

I once had an eldar storm guardian that through some miracle passed is leadership test after having his entire squad wiped and proceeding to tie the prince up for a full 3 turns until the game ended, even going go so far as to inflict a wound on the bastard

I only sent them to tie him up for a turn so I could get my fire dragons in position

they ended up not being necessary

When I first started playing with my grey knights , I didn't really care about models .
But one day one of my paladins squad was utterly destroyed and only one guy standed still .
I named him Brother Chuck after he charged and destroyed a full unit of wraith blades by himself , finally getting to the eldar autarch .
The duel then started .
The autarch scored five hits , each one failed .
Brother Norris then proceeded to explode his head with a hammer - and win the game .

The diminishing of Your Dudes is part of the reason I've jumped off of core 40k and am focusing on Heralds of Ruin Kill Team.

One of my core teams of that is led by an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor that I play in my group's Dark Heresy games, along with a retinue of Sisters belonging to an Order he helped found.

Inquisitor Gavin Trask had his start as a commissar cadet in the Schola Progenium, which was located on a world that, during his training, had experienced a major heretical uprising that mobilized the Schola's students. The battleground of this planet served as Trask's trial-by-fire, and was instrumental in ending the Chaos threat and returning order to the world.

It was this event that caught the eye of Lord Inquisitor Xerxes, who recruited the young commissar into one of his many cells. After spending fifty years in service to His Most Holy Inquisition, Gavin Trask earned the honor to be gifted the position of Inquisitor and his own retinue.

Ambiguous years down the line (since the campaign hasn't finished yet), this occurs (copy-pasting):

The Adepta Sororitas Orders Minoris referred to as the "Shield Maidens of Aiden" were originally a preceptory of the Order of the Sacred Rose sent to guard the Shrine World of Andosia, a planet of major religious significance in the Skyllian Sector, also home to the headquarters of Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Gavin Trask, who had served as a commissar briefly before being recruiting into His Most Holy Inquisition as an acolyte under Lord Inquisitor Xerxes.

Holding amicable relations with the Ecclesiarchy, Inquisitor Trask gained a reputation among the few people of Andosia who were aware of his presence, from higher-ranking public officials and priests, to the members of the Adepta Sororitas, oftentimes making use of the latter when his investigations found strong evidence of major heretic cults that were too large to be eliminated discreetly.

His efforts were part of a long-con by the forces of Chaos, however, as after approximately a decade of his work in the Skyllian Sector, a large force of the dark gods launched an invasion of Andosia, decimating the Shrine World's populace, numerous scholarly findings, and scouring its verdant green landscapes.

Inquisitor Trask and his powerbase fought alongside the Sororitas preceptory, Frateris Militia, and what Imperial Guard and Adeptus Astartes forces answered the call, in addition to the drafting of any and all able-bodied citizens, up to the highest-ranking priests who fought with fire and brimstone against the servants of the Warp. At the end of the war, Andosia was a shadow of its once-rich self, now covered in fields scorched to a crisp black soot and defiled waters. The Chaos warbands were defeated, but there was no real victory to be had among the Emperor's faithful aside from the survival of what few locals remained, primarily children who were left orphaned after their parents fought and died by the score.

Many were distraught by the loss of their jewel of a planet, but the Inquisitor and Canoness, who were among the few high-ranking individuals left on Andosia, both understood that, although this may be an end to Andosia, it's only the beginning of a new era for the Skyllian Sector.

With the blessing of the Ecclesiarchy and the Adeptus Administratum, the two founded a Schola Progenium in the Sub-Sector Aiden of the Skyllian Sector, bringing what was left of Andosia's populance with them. There, they inducted the children into the academy, breeding into their blood the drive to take revenge on the forces of Chaos for bringing their homeworld to ruin and taking their mothers and fathers from them.

As was standard with Schola Progeniums, the orphans were divided up based on their aptitudes, with many girls being inducted to the new Sororitas Orders Minoris, the Shield Maidens of Aiden, who diverged from their mother Order, donning grey armor, green robes, and bronze gilding, in memory of the rainy skies, rich green landscapes, and shining spires of Andosia. The boys were sent into the Storm Trooper program, referred to as the [name to be decided], and sharing a similar color scheme to their sisters, with elements of both sexes being placed into a number of support roles, as well as the Inquisitor's retinues and spynets, including the non-militant Orders of the Dialogus, Famulous, Hospitaller, Adepts, and assassins.

Inquisitor Trask gave them a new purpose: to defend Sub-Sector Aiden from the forces of the Arch-Enemy, and any other blasphemous elements that may threaten the safety of its citizens, and to obey the call-to-arms to ensure that none of Aiden's worlds may fall to the same fate of Andosia.

-----------

I have a lot more information for my Sororitas Order than my Inquisitor because I'm waiting for the campaign to end before I finalize the things he's done. That 50 year gap is due to a time skip that took place in our game after which the entire cell except Gavin Trask died, and we rotate our games and have only recently gotten back into it again. He's done more of note, like save a Forge World via settling a dispute between factions of Necrons and Eldar, but that's a bit on the recent accomplishment, so there's no telling what may come of it yet, and thus doesn't really work in a storytelling format like this.

Basically, I can't do too much with him yet right now because I don't want to compromise the integrity of my GM's story, and would like to keep things as consistent as possible.

I've got a blood angels deathwatch apothecary that I made for the RPG- I'm pretty fond of him, gonna use him as a vet sergeant for the deathwatch army I'm building.

He's super special snowflake and I love him for it.

His name is Brother Medens. He has a power sword named Amoralfin, the Emerald Death- the sword has such a malign hatred for orks that its glow seems to increase in vibrancy when the greenskins are nearby.

So far, his only heroics have been in the campaign, among which including killing three orks with a single swing of Amoralfin (their jump packs caused some collisions, i guess) while ziplining. This is one of the rare moments where Medens plan did not go horrifically awry.

Hopefully once I get him on the battlefield he will do some cool stuff.

Archmagos Drayanor.
Explorator, relic hunter, and survivor extraordinaire.

With my dark eldar, I noticed every time my archon died I would ultimately win the game, but games I lost he would always be standing.

So a story emerged for my kabal where my archon is so unbelievably incompetent it has created a balance of power in the kabal, where no one aims to take his position because of how his personal failures further the kabals aims.

So now I like to think there's a conspiracy to ensure he dies in every battle to ensure victory, and then make sure to have the haemonculi revive him after the raid. My archon is figurehead who acts as a sacrificial good luck token.

Swooping Hawk Exarch that usually ends up doing better than the actual leader, so far he's downed a few fliers (one solo after rest of his squad was killed) pretty much ruined that Hammer of Caliban formation by haywiring everything painted green, and killed god knows how many devastator/backfield Sgts in duels.

>head shot the Swarmlord
>helped Telion beat a tyranid monstrous creature to ddeath in melee
>took off Lysander's last wound before he could skullfuck my captain, promoted to tactical marine
>with a melta gun took out a leman russ from 12in away front arc
>popped a defiler, predator, and a vindicator in a single battle
>killed 3 carnifexes and a mawloc, now carries banner with nid skull
>shot down a vendetta
>finished a daemon prince, promoted to sternguard
>killed another daemon prince by shoving a krak grenade down his throat
>blew up a knight titan and survived the blast
>killed 2 zoanthropes and survived 4 rounds in combat alone against 30 gaunts
>blew up two wave serpents, got charged by occupants and swept them
>destroyed annihilation barge
>held an objective alone for three turns while killing two rhinos and surviving two squads rapid firing into him winning the game

Considering a promotion to captain.

I do HoR Kill Teams and play Space Wolves.

It is almost all Termie Wolf Guard and a few Wolf Scouts. They all belong to Blackmane's great company and have been on a long deployment to take back a world belonging to Slaanesh and, failing that, grab whatever relics of note and get out.

The Slaaneshi forces are a homebrew warband mostly made up of cultists and led by the marines with promises of infinite pleasure.

The world being fought over is also a tomb world and near a tendril of a tyranid hive fleet.

It's a pretty fun "campaign" we've been running.

My pack is led by Rykar the Cromulant. He has been on this hunt for nearly half a century and is actually slowly winning back the region from the Infinite Vices and freeing the people. He has actually won me games through punching through half the enemy team's models. Lucky bastard. Also his pack's best sniper, Asger Raveneyed, has an insane kill count.

I really like my Company Master - outside some options he's inferior to the Interrogation Chaplin but there's something about a boss that's good at duelling. Sons of Antaeus standard Boarding Shield bearing marine (a.k.a a head taller than other marines because Sons of Antaeus) that gets thrown in the Deathwatch because his chapter doesn't want the Big I to be suspicious, and the inquisitor wanted that guy particularly to be seconded there.

Gets teamed up with only Cursed Founding marines, lo and behold, here's Kill Team Curse. Team leader is Tactical Lamenter, Best bro is Black Dragon Assault Marine/Dragon's Claw, and Blackshield (Flame Falcon) librarian, so the constant flames are explained by "muh brain powers".

Gets shit on by other marines in the Deathwatch, what's with being Cursed Founding and all, especially First Founding ones or those who put a big emphasis on purity, looking at you Red Scorpions.

At first surprised to see that the other marines are all so tiny, because he never saw Astartes outside his chapter before that, but then learns humility by getting his ass handed to him in CC by the Black Dragon and they become best bros.

That number is 21. Sometimes he was a sergeant, palling around with the other initiates in the shower after a fun game of 'purge the heretic'. Other times he was a chaplain, staying back with as many neophytes as he could get away with before command would notice and whisk him off to another crusade.
