The Finals for the playoffs are locked in! One Night Rack and Animeted Clothing couldn't hack it past the semifinals last season, but they've both trumped their rivals (or surrogate rivals) to face off this Monday at 20:00 server time! Don't miss it!

Why are blitzers always depicted as having claws when they don't have claws?
>>
>>45995389

I think it's just a visual shortcut meant to make them stand out as more aggressive than regular players.

Useful for the races which simply making them bigger and beefier doesn't work, like elves or Orcs (because the blitzers can't be bigger than the Black Orcs).

Scalia will always be remembered. Someone make a character of an old dwarf who beats pansy elves in debates and rulings. It's what he would've wanted.
>>
How do i into nurgle? i've basically only played dark elves and i want to do something more brute force-y and nurgle looks like fun, and also a change from doing everything on a 2+
>>
>>46002242
Have your Beast mark as many players as he can (preferably those with high mobility), sacrifice Rotters to keep your other players safe if you need to, maximize the use of Disturbing Presence against teams that like to pass, and I suppose you can make Pestigors the ball carrier after a level up or two since your ball-handling skills kinda suck at the beginning.
>>
Hey /bbg/, theheterick here.

I've been reading guides and such, but after only six games i feel like i still haven't got Pacts playstyle down.

I'm loosely following a guide for leveling them, but does anyone who saw my matches have any advice?
>>
>>46002242
Depending on your starting Roster very differently.

Nurgle doesn't have the go to roster like orcs or Dark Elves.
Some start with 3 rerolls because Nurgle really needs a lot of rerolls
Some start with Beast of Nurgle because the Beast is really important
Some start with all Chaos Warriors because they are reliably
Some start with all Pestigors because they are fast.
>>
>>46004672
If you want to play competive Chaos pact
Drop the Troll the Goblin and the Skaven

Develop the Elf into the ball carrier and focus on developing your marauders they are the most important players on your team.
>>
>>46002242
>>46004882

as anon said, the problem at the beginning is you can't get all your positionals. so the aim in the first few games is just build up cash to do that. once you have beast, 4 warriors and 4 pesti, you can develop the team.

ultimately you want a ball carrier pesti, at least 1 clawpomb pesti, a smattering of guard, mb and claw on the warriors (maybe some extra tentacles), and at least 1 dirty player rotter

that's the goal, obviously nuffle will intervene to some extent

nurgle are pretty much the definitive high tv team. at lower tv you will have to play a conservative control-type game, because you will be outskilled and outmanoeuvred by most opponents

Is it worth buying a thrower for orcs if my goblin rolled ag+ to add a passing threat along with a cage?
>>
>>46005228
I think dark elves might be the only roster more expensive.

But yeah the needs are at least one killer pest, one ball carrier, and to develop the Warriors so they have some combo of block, guard, mb, claw, po, tackle, and tents

A lot of people like sidestep or stand firm. There is an argument as to if you take the BoN or not (Jimmy fantastic says not to). If you should build the Warriors to be block guard or block, mb, claw. If you should have a wrestle/tackle pest or if all pests get block. And the last one is if you go block first. I know a guy in orca cola who goes 2 block 1 guard, 1 block and on his warriors then fills in block and guard tor the second level. Jimmy fantastic likes making 1 warrior and 1 pest go mb, po, claw, block, tackle in that order because he thinks mb is more valuable than block on one piece early
>>
>>46007586
its always worth having a thrower for leader + accurate for shenanagins IMO
>>
>>46007586
Why do you even have a gobbo? I would say sure because you are already playing less than efficient.

Ideal orc teams are 4 bob, 4 blitzer, 3-4 lino, 0-1 thrower
>>
>>46007675
Im doing a Troll 4BO 4Blitz 2gobbo plus one benched for the NAF on BB2 along side my super serious orcs.
>>
>>46007651
>There is an argument as to if you take the BoN or not (Jimmy fantastic says not to).

Do you (he) mean at low tv? I think the only application of that argument is for starter Nurgle.

>>46007675
for anything other than min maxed low tv it's worth having the troll gobbo combo for the ots threat. 40 tv is worth the punt when you're at 1800 anyway

>>46007665
leader maybe. accurate, never.
>>
>>46004909

Pact does want to have the Troll and the Goblin for at least a while and he's already bought them.

His main problem is that yes, he's been neglecting the marauders too much.
>>
>>46008735
>He doesnt do epig 4+ catch plays

>>
>>46009101
Shame orc catchers were erased from history. Would have been a nice option as a physical receiver type rather than all the low str low armour ones.

Also:
>Last season's record for the Best Individual Single Game Catching (paces) was made at the Vynheim Valkyries' Longship Stadium. Unfortunately for the Valkyries, the record was made by the albino Osgar Vilechuck, star Catcher of the visiting Gouged Eye, with an amazing 241 paces (the NAF record). Vilechuck caught 6 bombs of 30 or more paces in this outstanding performance, particularly impressive as the Longship Stadium was knee-deep in snow.

>Valkyries' coach Mad Jake McDead disupted the record, complaining that his players couldn't see the albino Orc after he stripped off his uniform! The record stands but, alas, Vilechuck got frostbite waiting for a seventh bomb and caught only 1 more ball all season.

For the unfortunate people stuck at work, a brief update:

Chorfs receive, Kickoff event was a Blitz. Poundinator KO's Polo's Bizarre Adventure, leaving the Animeted Clothing down a Bull Centaur, and the ONR flood the Clothing's half of the pitch for a steal attempt.
>>
ONR takes the first touchdown, courtesy of Sneaky Pete. Chorfs managed to turn what was looking like a full half stall into a forced touchdown, however, so we are 4 turns in leaving Animeted Clothing plenty of time to even the difference.
>>
Despite a riot causing the clock to turn back and giving Animeted even more time to score, a series of KOs and stuns left them stalled once again in their own half. An attempt to remove the Poundinator with a magic card-assisted foul nearly left him badly hurt, but the indomitable werewolf regenerated the wound and returned to the reserves.

The ONR continued to remove Clothing players as Snappy Pat stalled until the 8th turn for a second touchdown!
>>
The Animeted Clothing, down two touchdowns, shift strategies by playing the Exploding Runes card on No Game No Laces in an attempt to cripple the key players of One Night Rack. However the first attempt is a long "bomb", which of course is fumbled and explodes in his face.

The Poundinator meanwhile makes an unopposed run up the entire field, making the third score of the game.

You've been playing the Pact alright; generally you make pushes with the Big Guys and tend to lose if they decide not to cooperate.

The key thing is to position in such a way that your Marauders can screen off parts of the field if your Big Guys decide to be ornery. Since Marauders are low AV you don't want to screen with them unless you can help it.

In the long term you need to build the Marauders - they are the core of your team. Your Big Guys will inevitably level up from casualties and your Dark Elf and Skaven will get TDs, but you need Marauders that can be reliable Blitzers.
>>
>>46017019
>you don't want to screen with them unless you can help it.
Typo - you don't want to *mark* with your Marauders. Screening is just fine and what you want to do.
>>
>>46017019
>>46017043
AV 8 isn't terrible to mark with. I'd rather not mark with a developed marauder, but the rookie ones are the same as human linos

I'm talking more about marking as a primary strategy - it's a bad idea with AV8 since you don't want your Marauders to go off the field. Losing one of your reliable players means you have fewer members able to cover for your 3 unreliable Big Guys.

Question,

I've got a relatively new team on fumbble, only played one game, with only one player with 5 spp and none leveled up. Would I be able to enter that team to rookie league III, or should I just scrap that team and make a new one?
>>
>>46032634
First of all it has to be a League team.
>>
>>46032649

It's a league team. The rules say they need to be fresh teams, and that's fair, I can just make a new one.
>>
>>46032721
Well I kind of assumed it could be Ranked since it's weird for a League team to only have a single game played. But yeah, there's probably no way unless it's a fresh team.
>>
So I've been interested in this game ever since my father rented it a long time ago by accident and then immediately took it back because it was a strategy game, where's the best place to start?

Watch BB2 on twitch for a while to get an idea of how the game looks, jumping into Fumbbl after that is a good idea if you can wrap your head around it. You can ask if someone will do a tutorial game for you or something if you don't want to look it up on youtube.

I really hope GW dosent screw up Blood bowl when they remake next year.

The leaked minis look ok. But they have a track record of fucking up their games.

I own most of the teams already but i got a felling they will add, remove or mod poistion players to force vets to buy more.
>>
>>46033921
>when one of your players get killed you must bury the mini in an official mini graveyard on your nearest GW shop and buy a new mini to replace it
>despite the graveyard being a tiny box full of sand, there always seems to be room for more minis
>>
>>46033974
>not taking the cremated remains and dumping them over their replacement to appease nuffle.
>>
>>46033974

Honestly the only thing i would change about the current rule set it tackle.

Tackle is OP as fucking shit making some teams worthless at higher TV's.

Tackle should work when that player is throwing a block and only then. it should not have any effect when i am dodging away. If you want to make it suck to dodge away then get take mother fucking diving tackle.

But as far as team balance goes the game is very well balanced. There are teams that are harder to play like vamps, halflings and ogres. and there are teams that are a little tougher like lizzards. But there is not 1 team so good its a win button team.

My main concern is that they will 40k it up with blood bowl and make a few new team that is stupid strong to the point where every other team struggles when playing it. It will be like all the tau / eldar players 40k saw pop up overnight.

But thats wrong.

I like playing amazons and halfings.
>>
>>46034085
I kind of agree, maybe Tackle shouldn't completely nullify both blocking dodge and dodging out dodge, maybe have tackle just nullify blocking dodge and make diving tackle nullify dodging out dodge

tackle is ridiculous value to be honest
>>
>>46034308
I did suggest it a while back but just add a skill that nullifies tackle and it's solved. Masterful game design.
>>
>>46034332

why add a skill to nullify a skill that nullifies a skill?

no skill should just nullify another skill outright like tackle dose. amazons are ok to srart with but once the other teams start getting tackle spread around the ladies are nothing more then CAS points.

No, tackle should just apply when the tackle player is throwing a block. Diving tackle is fine as it is. having a player on the ground is a fair price to pay for a -2 to a dodge roll.

its a gamble. you risk putting one of your players on the ground in order to cause a turnover.

And if you are taking dodge on your elves you are doing it wrong. Provided you are playing in a long term league TONS of players end up with tackle. in my old everlasting league i dident ever bother taking dodge as a skill up because i knew long term it was a wasted skill.

I explanied this to our wood elf player and he saw a drastic change in his win loss ratio. instead of building players up with dodge as a 1st skill he started taking block and would rely on the 2+ roll to make his dodges. then give a few side step. guard on doubles. mighty blow if a war dancer got doubles.

By the time that elf team hit a TV of 2mill it hit like chaos while still being able to run and throw like poncy elves. After winning our chaos cup he gave claws to a wardancer that was already sitting with tackle, mighty blow and +1 S.
>>
>>46034570

>>46034085

>>
>>46032634
I think this is a question worth talking about though for the future if we're eventually going to do a TV split.

If the limit is going to be TV1000 to TV1300, do people have any objections to entering League teams that have played games elsewhere? For example it's conceivable that you might enter with a former 145 Cup team.
>>
>>46035433
I think they should be brand new
>>
>>46035433
Yeah, i prefer the idea of a /tg/-only league, with no outsider teams. Team has games outside of /tg/ league - it cant play in /tg/ anymore. Maybe with the rare exceptions like the current ONR vs Reddit event.

Taking in an outsider team sets a precedent. And any kind of barrier, TV-based or otherwise, can be gamed.

There are several ways to play:
1. Tabletop
Pros:
+miniatures
+real life interaction
+easy houserules

Cons:
-miniatures
-real life interaction
-can screw up the rules

2. FUMBBL
Pros:
+free
+most complete implementation of the rules online (all 21 teams, star players, inducements, etc.)
+Not hard to find a league and community is fairly friendly
+Leagues allow for some custom houseruling
+default turn timer is 4 min, giving you plenty of time to think (some might have this as a con)

Cons:
-graphics are just serviceable (it's not bad - see pic, but hardly 3d stuff)
-houseruling never as
-matchmaking services are not "full auto" in the same way as the Cyanide games (Box requires activation and Ranked gamefinder only suggests matchups.)

Probably the easiest way to try the game if you're sitting on the fence. /tg/'s running a league too - just finished the last season, so you can jump in on the next one.

Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition
+nicer graphics
+has most team rosters (not as comprehensive as FUMBBL and lacking Star players/inducements)
+auto-matchmaking
+has one roster exclusive to the game - Khorne

-no longer supported
-old
-some rules implementation is buggy
-Khorne kind of sucks and the game doesn't have some of the TT rosters like Slann or Chaos Pact

Blood Bowl 2:
+nice graphics
+has Bretonnians
+that's about it.

-expensive: only 8-12 teams at present
-future teams will be 5-7$
-lacks Star players and inducements
-very buggy at the moment
-some fiddly implementation of the rules (mostly in terms of skills that should be optional)
-controversial balance changes
-no penalty for conceding matches so public matchmaking is dominated by ragequits (may be a pro)
-Bretonnian roster is kind of meh, and the game is still missing a ton of rosters that should be in.

That is the question indeed. You should still build a stadium though, for the "old" version that is.

Good to hear it! So, what are you waiting for? Get building. No matter how the "new edition" will look/play you will always have the "older" one, correct? And, if, and that is a big if, the new edition will replace the "older" one, just build another one.
I've been in your shoes before. I spent a long time planning on building a modular Space Hulk board, and the rumors of a new edition made me push that date forward. After waiting for a quite a while the new edition finally materialized. And I realized that I could have created that particular board, a long time a go, and had some fun, instead of waiting on the new edition (which did not change much).

The thing with Tackle is that things just end up in this sort of cyclical meta in a league. Coaches get Dodge on their players, others start taking Tackle to counter turning dodge into bloat; coaches stop taking dodge which turns Tackle into bloat; and so on and so forth.

Having a single Tackler is fine and good. Two is good redundancy. But an extra 20k for each additional Tackler eventually does add up, and that's not accounting for the opportunity cost of taking another useful skill.

Getting tackle on 11 players is a whopping 220k TV; that's a Wizard and a Babe, to say nothing of how it delays skills you would otherwise want.

Now if you want to complain about Dwarves or CDs which get it for "free" that's another argument entirely; both are essentially what make those teams so good in the first place (CDs might be able to still compete if they lost Tackle on the Blockers but they'd definitely drop down to more of a long-term team).
>>
>>46047455
On the Dwarf side of "too many players with Tackle", it's tough to come up with a free skill that really helps them without being too underpowered or overpowered.

The issue is that Dwarves rely a lot on massing up and throwing a few tactical 1d blocks to free up enough assists and Guards to outstrength the remaining opponents for 2dice knockdowns (sort of the reverse of elf teams, who rely on 1d dodges to get assists for 2dice knockdowns). Tackle is in the right spot of "just situationally helpful enough" for a free skill.

The only possible alternative that I can think of that sort of occupies the same power level is to give Fend on all the linemen instead of Tackle, but this really kills Dwarven offensive potential (although it makes them a champion defensive team).

Swapping Block for Wrestle on Tackle pieces makes them gentler but also is an outright nerf given Dwarf movement, and something like Grab on linemen or CDs would be hideously strong en masse.

Something like a Juggernaut skill that works on normal Blocks would be great, but that would necessitate a whole new skill in the rulebook (and this skill would be hideously strong on non-Dwarf teams).
>>
>>46045043
These are mostly the province of the Minors, like the Royal Rookie Rumble or the like - just because they're called "Minors" doesn't mean the skill level is any lower.

The whole reason they're called "Majors" is because they're meant for huge TV teams - they're meant to represent the "big time" tournaments, not small salary-restricted ones. The point of having them is the sheer spectacle of watching these high-TV titans duke it out. If you want a display of low TV coaching finesse you watch/enter the Minors instead.
>>
>>46047612

>The only possible alternative that I can think of that sort of occupies the same power level is to give Fend on all the linemen instead of Tackle, but this really kills Dwarven offensive potential (although it makes them a champion defensive team).

Take Tackle off all Blockers in favor of Fend, give the Blitzers Tackle.

Though that might be too much of a buff for the Dwarfs.

>>46034671

I would not give block to a player with wrestle no. redundant and pointless. you gave him wrestle to deal with block on the other teams.

but wrestle dosent drag them down and roll for armor break like smacking someone with dodge using a player who has anti dodge.

>>46037412

>Sure hands cancels strip ball.

Sure hands and strip ball are not common skills taken. a handfull of players start with them. but i cant ever recall taking sure hands with anyone on a skill up. maybe strip ball on one or 2 players as a 4th or 5th skill.

wrestle dose not cancel block.

juggernaut and fend are hardly ever taken unless you A. have block, tackle, guard and mighty blow or are a big guy who skilled up and already has guard and sadly did not roll doubles.

The most common skills taken by vet players are block, dodge, tackle, guard and mighty blow.

anyone you intend to hit / blit with you give tackle. anyone you intend to throw blocks with you want tackle on when you can get it (IE after block and assuming you dident roll doubles)

Block is as much as if not more than a defensive skill than an offensive skill. You take it on players that you want protected from armor rolls from other Block players or even just the Both Down result. A wrestler does not hurt that player, so the goal of protecting them is still achieved.

And then on the offensive side of things, since all Wrestle does is keep both players on the ground, a player with Block has often still accomplished what they set out to do by blocking a player - put them on the ground and removed their tackle zones. If they didn't have Block, it's likely the opposing player wouldn't have wrestled and settled for the turnover from a Both Down.
>>
>>46048769

Why are you taking tackle if your league has no dodge heavy teams?

If you are going to a tourny why are you taking tackle as part of a skill package before block?
>>
>>46048726

If i hit you with a wrestle player and roll both down do i cancle your block and put you on the ground, keep myself up and roll armor on your guy? No, We both go down and neither rolls armor.

From what was said by FW of them having plans for future teams but it all depending on sales, that doesn't sound like anyone is going to be forced to buy anything.

If people buy the new version it will continue to get support, if they don't then once the inventory is sold out they'll scrap the project.
>>
>>46064643
It's also in the "pro" column also; I list it as a "con" not because it's a bad thing but because it requires lining up schedules, having players in your area, etc.

A videogame version like FUMBBL or BB2 doesn't require nearly as much commitment to arranging a match and isn't restricted by geographic proximity.

>>
>>46075163
As i understand, this is the team ONR will be up against:
https://fumbbl.com/p/team?op=view&showmatches=1&team_id=821077

14-(wo)man Amazon team. 1450 TV, no +stats on anyone, 3 guard across entire team, including one on a linewoman. 6 Players with block. Of the 4 blitzers, 2 provide guard, one is a Frenzy+MB, the other is POMBTackle. One kicker, one fouler, one ball carrier. No passing skills to speak of, no block on Sure Hands linewoman either.

Animeted clothing would certainly have a better chance against this team, but even ONR should not have too much trouble. Even without tackle, there's always a 1/9 chance for an instant turnover every time they dodge.

> The most common skills taken by vet players are block, dodge, tackle, guard and mighty blow.
this is broadly true
the rest of it is not

but you do not want to spam tackle, it's a waste of time
you do want a sure hands ball carrier
lots of teams take fend as a second skill on cheap linos
most ag4 teams will want a strip ball player, most ag3 will not

>>46048056
>dodge is a 20,000 GP sink and %100 worthless if the other guys has tackle

this is not true. it would only be true if every opposition player has tackle. no teams run like that. your worst case scenario is dwarves, and even then most developed dwarf teams will still never have more than about 75% tackle. most other teams will be at 40% max.

>>46034085
>Tackle is OP as fucking shit making some teams worthless at higher TV's.

this is just not true. the only team that could make this case are zons and zons are actually fine at higher tv

>it should not have any effect when i am dodging away. If you want to make it suck to dodge away
it's only denying you free rr's from dodge, it's not making dodging any harder. tackle spam has virtually no effect on elf gameplay from that perspective. i can guarantee that good elf players fear tackle far more for it's ability to get knockdowns and form part of nasty combos like tacklepomb than they do for its effect on dodging. DT does actually require more planning around for elves by far.
>>
>>46048056
>I would not give block to a player with wrestle no. redundant and pointless.

I would agree but there is a notable exception which is wardancers. there is a good case for a strip ball/tackle wardancer to also take wrestle. for 20 tv on a developed team it's worth it. that kind of leaping ball hawking threat is outrageous, and the key thing about the wrestle bit is it makes -2d's much more palatable. and the fact is that you can very easily turn games on -2d's when you have the right skills. (gutter runners are a case in point as they tend to need those more often)
>>
>>46079050
Block and Wrestle is just a little bloaty, Its very good to be able to choose whether you want them both on the ground, neither of them on the ground, or potentially just the enemy on the ground.
