Is it possible to make a desert setting without arabian nights/a non!arabia faction?
>>
Yes.
>>
>>45617849
No.
>>
Sure, there's plenty of other desert cultures to steal wholesale from.
>>
Maybe.
>>
I don't know.
>>
>>45617849
Yes, you can be inuits, Icelanders or Greenlanders in a artic desert.
>>
It depends on your outlook on life.
>>
Spain
>>
I have a desert culture in my setting more based on medieval subsaharan African kingdoms.
>>
Most of these posts are mine. My life is sad and lonely, just like your empty desert.
>>
>>45617849

Can you repeat the question?
>>
>>45617958

A country with like a half a dozen small deserts in which they film Spagetti Westerns?
>>
>>45618032
Yes
>>
>>45617849
Why would you want to avoid glorious nomadic pre-muslim Arabian setting?

I'm trying to get my players to play one but they think that desert = boring...

Everybody knows the only desert on the planet is in the Middle East.
>>
>>45617849
You can look up the Mojave desert, messicans + mormons + injuns.

You can also look up the Gobi, which is mostly mongols.

If you're feeling especially weird, considering researching Australia
>>
>>45617849
Go full western. Or do ice desert
>>
>>45618445
You could actually use every culture. Dorne from Game of Thrones is spain and it fits without problems.
>>
>>45617849
I'll say it's even mandatory. Just don't make it a dunes desert, but a rocky one, and make it a western style desert with indians and shit like that.

Then put your non!arabs in some nice place with a lot of water and plants, not the desert. Like king Faisal said in Lawrence of arabia, arabs don't like the desert, that's for autistic europeans.
>>
>>45617970
But those were sabanah people, not desert people, my senpai.
>>
Look up Gobi Desert; Mojave Desert, Painted Desert, Sonoran Desert
>>
>>45618503
Why not both?

Why does fantasy mojave sound so fun?

how do I fantasy mormon?
>>
>>45617849
Sure you can but first, need to know how they survive.

For example: Water is the most important in survival. Make them worship water. Blood can make the substitute.
Hiow they worship it?
How they can find water?
Maybe using some prayer or something.
Sun will be the evil god or something .
Surf the sand using winds

A cult rising in power, both creating its own separated nation state of followers while semi-successfully influencing the government of the larger empire.

What is even the point of a desert if I can't wear a turban. Might as well just make it some badlands so I can wear my cowboy hat and duster coat.
>>
>>45617849
Yes but why would you limit yourself so much?
They can show you a whole new world to explore and more than a thousand of stories to tell.

Base it on Touareg culture. They're double interesting with their semimatriarchal society.

Yes, it's just that you are uncreative and ignorant of the fact that every other desert has cultures of its own and that the Arabs aren't the only thing in the middle East.

This
Just a bunch of american mormons that were sent to fantasy-land by their space-god. They are constantly working on weird, alien machinations behind the scenes but never actually seem to do anything outright malevolent. They just chill out at their creep ass communes, build magic items, raise their occasionally mutant-psion children.

Also they carry laser pistols made of gold, except their leaders, those guys have heat vision and the word of God* on their side.

They would be Flumphs of eldritch cults: strange and grotesque but ultimately benign and even helpful, in their own odd way.

*the word of god can only be spoken with a far-realm accent apparently...

>Long ago there was a mighty civilization of sorcerer kings. Through their magical might they subjugated most of the known world. This would be their undoing.
>In their quest for greater power they cast a great spell, one intended to increase their power a thousand fold, and render them immortal. In their hubris they did not consider any possible ramifications, or side effects.
>The ritual blasted the sorcerer kings, and much of their empire into dust. Each speck containing a portion of their consciousness. They were now immortal, but too scattered to access their greater powers.
>Tribes of nomads live in the desert, the ancestors of that extinct empire. Only they know the proper rituals and routes to pass through the desert safely.
>They watch for signs that the sorcerer kings might be waking up, and use the necromatic and elemental powers passed down to them to lull them back into sleep.

So highly magical, and dangerous desert. Along with a group of people who are able to survive in it, and have a reason to stick around.

Seriously, it has one of the best settings in Prince of Persia games, and it doesn't stink of Arabian Nights bullshit.
