Seems reasonable enough.
Skeletons usually don't require food, which would free up a large proportion of their workforce and since skeletons are unaffected by many things people are they could easily dominate dangerous industries.
>>
>>44827382
People work because they are incentivized to work. Needs create incentives. The undead have no needs.

In reality, an undead kingdom would be totally nonproductive and would have a horribly weak economy, because the public have no real needs. Entertainers have no needs either, they just want attention. Ultimately the only commodity would be popularity.

An undead society would necessarily consist of cults of personality.

I feel he isn't as good at editing as he used to be.
>>
>>44829376
Pleasure comes in many forms, but for the undead, food and drink are obviously limited. So what comes after that is entertainment.

The problem is, why do the entertainers do their job? They don't need to drink or eat either. They're undead.

So an undead society would probably rely on living people for entertainment, because they have no drive to be entertaining themselves. It is mortality, hunger, and hardship that creates comedians.
>>
>>44829376
Well, assuming they don't have a sense of taste, smell, or touch, then they'd have to go for emotional and intellectual pleasures. Art, literature, architecture, fashion, games - things like that.

Of course, there's no reason they wouldn't have a sense of taste, smell, or touch. Yeah, they lack the appropriate organs, but they also lack eyes and ears, and they're generally not depicted as blind or deaf.
>>
>>44828996
They know the value of money though.
And the have a great labor source.

Instead of little Asian kids knitting sweaters and making shoes, an undead horde could crank out some manufactured goods.

Trade would boom.

Also farming. Never tired workers, plowing and harvesting.
>>
>>44829582
You know, the whole "never tiring" thing is one hell of an assumption. They might not be physically tired, but they're still going to get worn out, bored, stressed, and the like. They're also going to want to spend time with their skelewives and baby bones. How much extra work are you really going to be able to get out of them?
>>
>>44829723
A lot.
If a chink kid can give 18 he's, I expect 20 out of an undead.

>>44829582
That's retarded. Why would you sit around cranking out manufactured goods if you have no needs to satisfy?

The reason industrial societies work is that people are driven by their need to eat and drink to perform more labor than any person would do for free. In a society without biological needs, nobody would work that hard, they'd just sit around doing nothing, or maybe work a few hours a week so that they can afford knick-knacks that strike their fancy.

>when you die, you rise up as a skeleton and continue your eternal reign as a vassal of the undead empire

>>
>>44838396
It depends upon the setting really, and the whims of the skeletal rulers as they probably do desire things(more corpses, gold, knowledge, art, etc) and as such can use their undying workforce to produce materials wich can then be used to procure such commodities... nit to mebtion conquest is also a great motivator and skellies have to find weapons and arms somewhere

Protection; physical and political. If you're just a bunch of undead just being lazy it's only a mater of time before some ragtag group of misfits puts them all back in the ground, and if they've only got the rusty gear they were buried with then a rival country could just march on them.

So they need to be productive.
>>
>>44836514
He'd probably be more willing to make long-term investments like infrastructure improvements and education which mortal rulers don't live or rule long enough to benefit from. And he'd probably be more willing to stick to policies that require a lot of time to take effect.

Really, having an immortal ruler just makes sure his interests align more closely to the realm as a whole.

Intelligent undead are DEFINED by their needs, it's what binds them to the world. Liches need to remain 'alive' to work. Vampires and ghouls crave sustenance. Mummies are motivated by duty. Even wights are kept active by hatred.
A kingdom of undead is almost certainly a lich necromancer's magocracy, and is defined by a need for more workers and soldiers to divert more resources to the lich's research.
A clever mummy or mummy lord might reason it's master's temple is more secure if a fuckhueg city full of soldiers and living supplicants is sitting on top of it.
You're retarded and you should feel retarded.
>>
>>44840689
>>44840710
In fact, they would not be wealthy at all, just have a lot of resources sitting around. At best they can dump huge amount of resources for very one sided barter.

It's also not that they are generally useless with coin or trade, it's the fact that nobody gives a fuck about them or would even take a second glance. All they would be is a massive black hole that'd basically be a waste of space. Nobody would travel there, nobody would trade with them.

They would just be... uninteresting.

Good luck faggot, unless you literally chain him down he can probably get out of most cells that have a window or door, and then you're hardly going to get much work done. Unless you have a whole load of cells and some form of causing pain to them then you can't force them to work easily. They won't get hungry, they won't feel pain, all that might happen is an existential horror if you smash their bones up.
>>
>>44841058
It's like you know nothing about skeleton fashion. Even their noblewomen in full formal dress show their almost all of their ribs. >>44838531
>>
>>44841091
Necromancy is a thing.

It made them, it can control them.
>>
You automatically create the need for an entire skeleton economy and labor incentive if you presume they are fixated on eating the living. Basically any undead that is compelled to feed on the living can be presumed to go to any length to accomplish it.

Maybe this involves shambling aimlessly around hoping to happen upon a weary traveler to eat.

Maybe this means having an insanely prosperous nation that trades goods and commodities with other nations exclusively in exchange for live slaves.
Lots and lots of live slaves. As many as you fleshies can birth.

Skeletons would be the perfect mercenaries. Hire a a squad of trained warriors, who have spent centuries honing their skills, who feel no pain, who don't need food, and who do it for the honor, because nothing but honor would last in an undead society.

But they feel no pain, fear or bounds, they are incredibly brittle too.

And mercenaries do not a good and stable economy for the country make. And yes, nobody would trade with them, at best they would hoard coins from imitating living mercenaries but in the end, nobody would trade that coin back.
