Also, Steve Argyle's constant lilianas don't count

I don't know whether to be disgusted by the "teehee, i put barely clothed anime girls on a magic card" bullshit that screams fedoralordship...

Or the fact that the paint on that alter is so thick I could lead expeditions into the subterranean layers of Sakura's forearm.
>>

Elf god actually. the alter is pretty good, but its weird cuz its not a human.

Actually played with this one for a while. My LGS has a rule that commanders can be proxied and any size you want, and since I didn't own her and wanted to throw together a deck for casual night, I printed this baby out. It was a lot of fun.
>>
>>44444770
What pisses me off the most is that that art has absolutely nothing to do with the card. It's just "lol anime tiddies" for no reason.
>>
>>44453230
I wish I could be that optimistic, but I think you're giving the creator far far too much credit.

did someone actually ruin those with mlp shit?

Still not as bad as that one guy yesterday who literally threw a couple of Lotuses away back in the day because they wanted to be cool and show how they're not caring about their nerdy cards.

My girlfriend paints extended borders. She's thinking of starting an etsy shop. What price do you think this level of extended border work could run for? She did tsabo in 2 and a half hours. She wants to charge around 20$ an alter. (Not including card price, shop would probably be commission based) thoughts?
>>
>>44459311

$20 seems fair, I would pay that.

Thanks for the reply! She gets really excited when people compliment her work. She has only done around 9 extended borders so far, I can't believe she is this good with close to no background in art.
>>
>>44459382

She could probably have a scale of prices, like, 20 for a simple background extension, more for extended more complex art.
>>
>>44459382
I would pay that yes 20 is good , can she do Foils?

I like that idea! This was the hardest she has done so far. Would this qualify as "more complex art "? Would this be more expensive than $20? Maybe $30? What do you think?
>>
>>44459458
She hasn't tried a foil yet. Chances are the acrylic paint she uses wouldn't look good covering most of a foiled card.
>>
>>44459473

That is some good stuff. $30 would be reasonable for that.

>>
>>44459487
ok , the real business is on altering foil btw , at least for most part on EDH decks and cubes.

It is just a matter of technique I guess and using the right paint n stuff
>>
>>44459664
I'll look into it with her ! She currently only does this as a hobby, not relying on money from extended borders. Pretty sure the only proxies I have seen that are foil are not done with paint by hands, rather just printed. Again, I really don't know what I'm talking about, I've only seen extended borders by hand, janky alters by friends, and foiled proxies printed off by randies at the local lgs. From what I understand, high quality extended borders by hand are the most desirable simply because they are one of a kind.
>>
>>44459664
Also, we are regulars in Edh, and I've yet to see a hand painted foil extended border. Just proxies printed from online.
>>
>>44459721

I mean hey, if she figures out how to do it, it would be a pretty big selling point for her services.
>>
>>44459741
You're not wrong, thank you for the insight. Maybe we will look into trying on some cheap foils as practice. Perhaps there is some type of paint that looks nice on foils. The only downside to that is that the older foils are only on the borders, rather than the art itself. Personally i think it'd be a waste painting over the foiled borders then.
>>
>>44459792

I think the harder part would be finding a paint that matches the same reflective quality of the foiling. Finding shiny paint is easy enough, but I bet it would be hard to fit it to the foiling.

????
>>
>>44459792
yeah I mean for modern foils not classic foils yep
>>
>>44459823
Until I research this further I will believe that hand painted extended borders on foils is damn near impossible to do *well*. I know printed proxies are wonderful in foil, but somehow it takes away from the experience somehow. Again, this is all my opinion.
>>
>>44459873
The customers she gets generally works at 1 of 3 lgs's in town. Mainly powernine. Personally I've never heard of a market for extended borders on foils. Maybe it's a coincidence the 3 shops we regularly play at never mention them, BUT regularly use printed foil proxies for commanders and such, I don't know.

what I remember on altering foils is that you actually wipe the card with some light solvent but it will still retain the cards ¨foil¨ness if you will , obviously one only wipes out the area being altered. There are some guides on altering foils out there but yes you are correct most of foils are altered using a printer , I do not know it they are actually artists out there that do it by hand .

>>
>>44461021
It really is. The guy I got it from wanted $75 in trade value for it, and honestly I felt (and still feel) like it was totally worth it.
>>
>>44459473
When you think about pricing structures, you should also think about how often you want/need to be selling your product. As you can see from the thread, there are plenty of people out there who'd pay $30 for an alter of that quality: this means there are likely to be at least a few who'd pay $40 for it. If you don't mind making fewer sales in any given time-period, you can easilly charge over the going rate.
