How would Scooby Doo translate into a Call of Cthulhu game?
>>
>>44236287
Very well if you ask me. Up until the unmask which just reveals something -much- worse.
>>
>>44236341
I've been toying with this idea for a while, trying to figure out a good way to keep it both CoC-y and like Scooby Doo. Most of the guys who play my game don't know anything about Lovecraft, so I can do almost anything I want right under their noses and they won't realize it. I need a good plot hook and a Lovecraft-y monster.

Make Old Man Henderson a suspect, should give it a tad of the silly needed for Scooby Doo.
>>
>>44236473
It's the only thing one of my players knows about from Cthulhu, so he'd go apeshit upon encountering him.
>>
>>44236287

Scooby is a Cthulhu minion, he uses his powers to fool those kids to believe they are doing the rigth thing by getting rid of any enemy that attempts to tap magical artifacts or places without the Lord's Approval.Once they solve the problem, the area is free again for the cultists.
>>
>>44237956
I would roll with that if I didn't have one of my players as Scooby. I don't wanna railroad him like that.
>>
>>44236515
That makes him the perfect red herring suspect. For a WHAT A TWEEST ending, make him the only suspect who ISN'T a Shoggoth.
>>
>>44238112
Oh man, that Shayamalan tweest is just what I need.
>>
>>44237986
Why would you let the player play as scoob? That's attention whore level shit

Mystery Inc would fit right in with a Lovecraft plot, really. Half his protagonists are investigators called to investigate spooky occurrences.

The main question is to what extent we want to retain the lighthearted tone and hijinks that we know and love from Scooby Doo.
>>
>>44236341
This is what I was gonna post. But I feel that this would work better in a non-Call Of Cthulhu system because then everyone will see it coming from a mile away.
>>
Oh god I just realised that the whole running through hallways coming out the wrong doors visual gag would be real SAN loss to experience.

WAIT I WAS CHASING HIM NOW HE'S CHASING ME

FUCK THERES A GORRILA FOR SOME REASON

WHAT IS MY LIFE
>>
>>44238533
Shit, that's an actual concern.
>>
>>44238608

The Gate Spell should not be used in home security systems.
>>
>Velma: My glasses! I can't see anything without my glasses!

>Freddy: ... That's for the best, Velma. You don't want to see.
>>
>>44236287
Mystery Inc was pretty much this already.
>>
>>44238272
Because I have five players and a build ready for him. Besides, I'd rather not have Scoob be a DMPC.

>>44238533
Just imagine the SAN rolls. Maybe 1d6 to determine which door you come out of.
>>
>>44238533
>>44238629
>>44238694

Shit I'm not even OP and I kind of want to run this now just to pull this shit off.
>>
The latest CofC I was setting up was specifically supposed to feel like Scooby Doo. the plan was a big bopping Halloween party being held at a large outside-of-the-city mansion. Every cliche (hidden door behind bookshelf, sliding stairs, wall panels, etc) was going to be included. You couldn't walk ten feet without the chance of finding some hidden way around.
>>
>>44238763
I promise to tell this tale if I ever find the time to do this.
>>
>>44238533

Oh god that's what running from a Hound of Tindalos looks like.
>>
>>44238644
>Velma
You know she'd end up messing with some spooky books. The real question is how long it'll take her to crack. Being near-blind could protect her from a lot of horror, but I think she'll get most of her SAN loss during her downtime learning mythos lore.

>light hearted

Doesn't everyone DIE at the end of mystery Inc and get saved by time fuckery?
>>
>>44239120
Yeah pretty much, but not before watching everyone they know and love get eaten by an eldritch tentacled monster. And then they go to attend Miskatonic U. No joke.
>>
>>44239148
>>
>>44239309
Mystery Inc was pretty fucking hardcore.

You have to break one of the two.

If you break Lovecraft, I'd go with straight Scooby formula: Something looks weird, needs investigating, looks like some Old One cult, Shoggoth, etc., but the showdown reveals it was all just a ruse to some mundane end.

If you break Scooby, start with a normal Mystery Inc investigation, but this time the horror is not a guy in a mask, and then it eats them.

Of course the latter will not yield a campaign but just a one shot. Honestly, that's what CoC was built for.
>>

> Up until the unmask which just reveals something -much- worse.

There is no mask.

Camilla: You, sir, should unmask.
Stranger: Indeed?
Cassilda: Indeed it's time. We all have laid aside disguise but you.
Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!

There we go. I was about to be disappointed in /tg/, but you saved it at the 34th post. Good work, anon.

James D'amato runs a Scooby-Doo themed CoC game every year at GenCon; this podcast uses a cut-down version, but it's still awesome.

We've all listened to that one and assumed you had when you made the OP.
>>
>>44241419

I'm not OP, and why would you assume he had heard that already when there's every indication in his post that he has no clue that somebody's done this before?
>>
>>44241445
Because we have had this thread so many times, "not OP".

Hey asshat. You're a dick. Nobody likes you. Why are you here again?

I remember a short crackfic, maybe almost 20 years ago, where the Gang are really ace investigators and occultists, summon and banish GOOs for fun, and are generally unstoppable... until Scrappy shows up, worms his way into the group, and proceeds to murder/SAN loss them, one by one.

Daphne winds up the sole survivor, and narrates the story as a cautionary tale.

Why am I here? I came here to tell OP about that podcast because I thought he'd like it, then a smarmy douchebag bizarrely accuses me of being OP for some reason and is rude and condescending at me over nothing.

Without her glasses, everything is a blurry mess. Maybe what's most frightening is what you don't see.

Frightening? Yes. Sanity breaking? Those blurs give your mind more room to make something rational up.

My University Society runs an RPG convention once a year, and this year we had someone do exactly that.

Apparently it went quite well.
