Hello everyone. BMJ here.

At the end of this month/early next month, I plan to release a new draft of AdEva. This is planned to be the last draft of the core books for a while, as after that I am going to shift focus to the OD book, and the Player and GM books will not be touched again until OD is ready for playtesting.

Before that happens, does anyone have any feedback on things that they strongly feel need to be fixed or included in the game before I put the core books on a shelf for what is probably going to be more than a few months?

For those not already up to speed, the current draft can be found here:

As always, thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!

Why do so many things break?
>>
>>44171854

Entropy, I guess?

Could you be more specific? I'm not sure how to answer that question.
>>
Putting the canon Angels in the order they appeared in the series would be slightly more convenient than listing them alphabetically.
>>
Any chance of incorporating material from "Shinji & Warhammer 40k", as a potential alt-universe best outcome setting? Just the inclusion of a progressive chainsword, please.
>>
>>44172034
The Defensive weapon quality, the Fragile weapon quality, the Progressive weapon quality, and the Polythermic weapon quality all break when you use them, and that's on top of Angels breaking your weapons with Angel stuff or breaking your weapon because you got hit real nasty.
Just seems like a lot of breaking for something that happened once in the series
>>
>>44172294

Equipment can never truly be lost, just broken in the short term as a tactical inconvenience. It makes for a useful balancing mechanic. In some cases, like Defensive weapons, it makes a powerful tool somewhat unreliable in that shields give you a really strong Guard bonus but if you depend on them you might find yourself up shit creek after the Angel tears it apart. In other cases it is used to provide a limiting mechanic that otherwise doesn't exist for melee weapons. Powerful ranged weapons can be balanced by having limited ammo or long reload times, something that doesn't really work for melee weapons because Swords don't run out of gas.

On top of that, it provides for interesting fights by occasionally forcing players out of their comfort zone, or to have to change up their plans on the fly because the weapon they presumed they were going to use next turn just got turned into scrap metal.

Its not in the game because it was prominent in the show, its in the game because the game happens to benefit from it in terms of mechanics and play.

>>44172281

I'm not planning on it, as stacking technology bonuses on weapons is messier than it sounds (since obviously not all technologies are going to be equally compatible) and hard to balance. If there is anything specific you want included I can look into it, but there is a lot of stuff from S&W40k that isn't going to mesh well. The planet-wide homing beam AT Power they used to intercept an uncountable number of incoming projectiles simultaneously comes to mind.

>>44172154

Slightly, but then we also have to provide a separate section for all of the Angels that didn't appear in the show, since we are giving the canon Angels special treatment. If the show Angels were the only Angels provided I would agree with you, but as it stands I think lumping them all together alphabetically is the better option. Its not like the show Angels had a linear powerlevel progression anyway.
>>
>>44172706
But why so many with that exact same annoying drawback?
>>
>>44171755
Can Angels still be grappled and prison-shanked to death?
>>
>>44172281
>you are now realizing that chainsaws would make for utterly AWFUL weapons because the moment they hit anything the teeth can't bite through the whole thing kicks back in your face
There's a reason ecoterrorists will sometimes put metal spikes in trees at the height they're most likely to be chainsawed down at (those who aren't out to kill or maim anyone tend to place them higher up so they'll fuck up the sawmill equipment instead). It kicks the chainsaw back in the worker's face, potentially injuring or killing them.
>>
>>44172770
Can Angels be hugged to death?
>>
>>44172805
And a progressive Chainsaw...is even more fucking useless.
>>
>>44172745

Why not? It does the job, makes people consider their choices carefully, and none of them have an especially high chance of happening at any given time, the worst is a 10% chance. Some people really don't like the idea of weapon breakage as a risk, but only Fragile and Defensive are risks you can't avoid. The others only risk weapon breakage if you push the weapon into high risk/high reward territory, which is a theme that people have said before they wanted to see more of.

>>44172770
They can be grappled and knives can be used, but while grappling an Angel does penalize them it doesn't lock them down anywhere nearly as bad as it used to when we used Dark Heresy as a base system. These days, grappling an Angel restricts its movements and makes it more difficult for it to attack anyone outside the grapple, but most of the Angel's attacks can still be used against the grappling Eva just fine. So grappling Ramiel just means that Ramiel blasts you with lasers at point blank range. There are times when grappling the Angels is just what the doctor ordered, but it is always dangerous to do so.

Dude, you got explicitly told 'no', now fuck off.

Evangelion UNIT: OFF, anyone?
>>
>>44173043
I'm sorry, I double posted. Hours apart... Because my goddamn phone. I tried to delete the post, but 4chan demands I live with my shame for some arbitrary amount of time.
>>
>>44173152
Ah well, these things happen.
>>
>>44172897
Progressive looks like it's a risk vs reward thing, yeah, but Polythermic looks like it's 'risk it or do nothing'. Why doesn't it get to do anything without overheating, like Progressive gets to do?

Only one way to find out!

>>44173088

I don't get that reference, I am afraid.

>>44173359

Polythermic does do things even without Overheating, as it is still an effective Energy damage melee weapon, which is in short supply. Its only competition is Superconductive technology, which doesn't benefit from Critical Momentum very well. Polythermic also has Surplus, so even if the weapon does break it is much less of a downside than it would be for most weapons since it is easy to replace.

OFF is an rpgmaker game, it is certainly...interesting. that is certainly a word I would use for it.

Can we have more branches dedicated to shooting? Melee and AT Powers have plenty of options, but ranged only has Striker (can't take it until midgame), Bulletstorm (a very bad idea if the rest of the party's going melee), Sniper (costs a hell of a lot of stamina, but it's alright), Sidearm (Eh, it's okay), and Overwatch (see Bulletstorm).
>>
>>44173968

Only if we can come up with something for that new Ranged branch to actually do.
>>
Options that aren't "single massive shot that takes multi turns to charge up w buff stacking" or "full auto only, sucks to be melee"

Giving burst fire some love?
Skirmisher role where you get bonuses for move+ fire?
>>
Was I reading something wrong or maybe it was potentially fixed. Because last I remember from either version .3 or .4, angels got scaled amount of actions based on how many Eva you fielded. Which lead to some absurd arm chair theory scenarios like only fielding a single long ranged equipped Eva, taking a shot or two then retreating due to an action advantage over the angel.
>>
>>44174326

Angels do get a number of chances to act based on how many Evas are standing. It used to be an unchanging number of Intervals even if one of the Evas was defeated, but that got death spirally and unintuitive, so now defeated Evas don't still proc Intervals for the Angel to act on.

That said, Angels have a special rule in place now that says that they get 3 Stamina instead of 2 on their Interval if they somehow get reduced to just one Interval a round. So 1v1, the Eva no longer gets an action advantage.
>>
Between 2ed and 3rd, I've been finding it hard to port over an AT Adept character. It seems very difficult to do anything offensively at lower to mid amounts of XP with AT Powers due to the majority of offensive abilities being complex. Are there any plans to add to the list of AT Powers, or tweak the ones that are or aren't complex; or is this an intended change with AT powers meant to be more supplemental to gun and melee combat in this edition?
>>
>>44174112
Gun kata? Shotgun specialist? A reaction attack of opportunity to try to disrupt an Angel's AT power? Put a hole in the ground to trip it up?

Why does the Production Type just have one Feature, when all other have two? Would History AND Construction be more fair?
>>
>>44176277
Production Type is already really bloody good, though.

Is scraggiel still around? Cutest bot.
