What's Guild Ball?

Short answer: The best game you haven't played

Slightly longer answer: Medieval mob ball crossed with gladiator combat from the coliseum.

Long Answer: Guild Ball is a table top skirmish game for a fantasy sport. You win by reaching a set amount of points before your opponent, which are gained by taking out his team, scoring goals, or a mix of the two. Playing Football or focusing entirely on combat are equally viable ways to win.

Teams represent one of the various trade guilds, currently there are 8 playable guilds with more being released next year. Guild ball is simple to pick up but hard to master. Teams are composed of six models, fielding a team for a full sized game costs <$100 USD.

Rules and templates for proxy models are available for free http://guildball.com/#downloads

Abridged Lore:
> Stupid humans are stupid humans and start fighting amongst themselves. Conflicts continue and escalate, strings of wars break out across the entire continent that become known as the Century War
> Century War is fucking ruining everything. The various trade guilds realise this is ultimately going to do nothing but bankrupt them and leave all their customers dead.
> Guilds unite behind the political scenes and simultaneously lean on all the weakened countries to eventually broker a peace.
> Realising that humans are fucking stupid ass animals, if they don't give them something to channel their aggression and nationalistic pride into the peace will be shortlived and the wars will resume.
> Guilds nationalise mob football, a popular peasant game in every country, as Guild Ball. Guild Ball essentially becomes Europe's The Premier League + Roman Gladiator fighting.
> Guild ball is keeping the peace but also making the guilds a fuckload of money.

I would have more hype come april. I really want to see what the hunter's guild will have.

Never heard of this. What are the factions like?
>>

Go to bed Jamie

Butcher's Guild: Straight up fighters, not very good at football. For them ball possession means forcing an engagement. Can't really take a hit but they deal more raw damage than any other faction.

Fishermen's Guild: Opposite of Butchers, can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag but tonnes of mobility and control options. Fishermen win by controlling the field and scoring goals.

Brewer's Guild: Ok at fighting, ok at Football. They specialise in alot of Knock Down effects so they have some decent board control too.

Engineer's Guild: Best faction at ranged combat. They have several ranged Knock Down effects which gives them strong board control and makes them difficult to handle the football against. Engineers have decent ball control, but they're short ranged kickers so they struggle to threaten long range goals.

Alchemist's Guild: They have decent ranged combat and board control, they specialise in hitting their opponents with various status effects like burning, poisoned, and bleeding. They're only average footballers though and don't really have long range goal threats.

Mortician's Guild: They suck at playing football but they have alot of debuff and control effects. They can reliably take control of and reposition their opponent's models. If you know a faggot that likes playing blue/black control decks in MTG, this is his Guild Ball faction.

Mason's Guild: Jack of all trades faction that relies on close teamwork and buffing each other. They can threaten huge long range goals or hold their own in a fight with anyone except Butchers. Playing Masons is usually about identifying where your opponent is weak and adapting to hit him there. Mason's unique skill is they have several abilities that fuck with the order models activate in.

The Union: Union players are mercenaries that work for other guilds as well as their own. So they're designed to be very self contained and don't interact with each other very much. Union players are very diverse.

>tfw I played U/B faeries/control

Union and Fishermen look cool though. Masons sound fun, but the models are kinda bland imo.
>>
>>44141257
Fishermen have alot of control effects too, not quite as obnoxious as Morticians but still pretty good. They need the control to make up for the fact they can't fight worth a shit.

I played Masons vs Fishermen yesterday, Fishermen only inflicted a single point of damage over the entire course of the game.
>>
>>44141970
Damn. I guess as long as they score goals well. How hard is it to get ahold of models in burgerland?
>>
>>44142069
Armada games, Muse on Minis store, Discount Game Inc all carry guildball stuff.
>>
>>44142229
Sweet. Thanks.
>>
>>44142069
No other faction is anywhere near as good as Fishermen at playing the scoring game.
>>
>>44139333
No morticians probably mat
>>
Reading through the rules it seems like it would take forever to kill any models, if the most damage anything will do is 3
>>
>>44145596
With the exception of Fishermen, everyone can kill models in one round.

The key is to look for abilities and buffs that give +1 damage to results. Your average player can be given 4 Influence points, which he can use to make 4 attacks with in one activation.

Even low damage results of 2 will get bumped to 3, and 4 attacks nets 12 damage which will take out the squishier characters.

If you can stack a second +1 damage buff, then you can do 16 damage which takes out the mid range character.

And if you give these buffs to the team captain who can be given 6 Influence to buy 6 attacks instead of four, you're averaging 24 damage per activation which takes out all but the toughest models.

The damage amounts don't seem like much but unlike other games it's very very difficult for an attack to deal 0 damage because of how the combat system works. The attacks don't seem super impressive, but they're extremely accurate. Unlike 40k or Warmachine where you can whiff a bunch of really high powered attacks in a row and do literally nothing.
>>
>>44145596
Its actually pretty easy to deal damage to kill models

Warstore stocks guild ball as well.

Free downloadable 2D models

>>
>>44150643
I will definitely use those to test the game, but in the end, models are what get other folks interested.
>>
>>44152124
There is a back log - no one can keep them in stock :(
>>
>>44152791
Pretty sure they're not having stock problems. The Resins scuplts are pretty limited right now but the metals are all in stock.

>>
>>44152791
Where Are you trying to get them from
>>
ABSOLUTELY love this game. Cool to see a general here now. My spookums are about half painted now, getting all my housemates to try the game out. Really well-designed game, easy to get into. All I need now are events to go to.
>>
>>44152791
My LGS called his distributor, who didn't have any in stock, who then called a US distributor who said they had none in stock either.

Then my LGS got in touch with a different distributor in AU who had shitloads.

Get your LGS to try asking different sources.

Anyone know a good colour to go with red armour on masons?
>>
>>44159796
the armor is red? the metal part?
then just go dark leather for the cloth part. If the cloth is red, go silver or brass for the armor
>>
Mahogany.
>>
Any morticians here that can give advice on how to handle fisherman? I got spanked last tourney with a 0:12 loss. I can't hold the ball because I get tackled, I can't kick the ball away because they grab it. I can't lock them down because they just poke couple of times and dodge.
>>
>>44161543

It sounds like you're trying to outfootball them. Not only is that an uphill battle for anyone, that's an even worse prospect for Morticians who are exceptionally shithouse at ball handling.

When you get your hands on the ball, position it to force him to engage you. Everytime he engages punish him and take models off the board. If you can get a casket time off too that really helps.

Use Obulous to drag people out of position, especially squishy targets like Salt or Siren. If Cosset slams into them they're more than likely going to die.
>>
>>44159907
Metal is red .
>>
>>44167698
I wasn't trying to play football at all. Greyscale is fucking impossible to catch and I couldn't force engagements because everyone but angel and salt had 2 inch reach so I kept on getting negative modifiers in combat. Casket is too bad in this matchup. Foul odour does nothing against dodges which they have plenty of.
>>
>>44135446
Stupid question, but what are the scale of the minis if you don't mind me asking. they look cool so might end up picking them up for other purposes if they're the right scale.
>>
>>44161543
as a fisherman player. put the ball down somewhere massively out the way. its harder to get it of the ground then a player. fire from silence is great. and knockdowns go for miles.
>>
>>44171211
30mm
>>
>>44171031
You have a 17" threat range on Cosset's charge or a 22" threat range on her lure. How are you struggling to get her to chase down Greyscales. You can position her to threaten two models at a time and force him to choose something to let you go after.

If your opponent is grouping a tonne of shit up to try and defend against melee punish him with silence by throwing embalming fluid over all of them.

Non reach models like Casket are fine against this match up. You just need to set them up. Have silence pick a target, shutout on him, then have obulous puppet master them forwards. Then you can have Cosset/Casket start wailing on them.
>>
>>44173259
Greyscales have unpredictable movement. It's very easy for him to be out of the way.
>>
>>44173777
You can have Cosset lure him, then have someone else like Graves charge him.

Morticians are incredibly good and pulling models out of position and punishing them. If you can't take advantage of this I'm not sure how you're even approaching the faction.
>>
>>44174127
You aren't paying attention. If graves charges he just dodges with unpredictable movement. You've wasted two activation and at least 4 influence with your advice to do absolutely nothin
>>
>>44174527
No, Graves has 2" melee. If you charge and go base to base he can't possibly get out of melee range unless you've positioned a model to allow him to cut LOS.

Remember, exactly 2" away is still within 2".
>>
>>44171211
30 40 50mm bases depending on the model
>>
>>44175957
He's asking about scaling, not base sizes
