If you're English only then read the digests for I and II, read a let's play for III and IV (unless you like early 90s rpgs), play Kichkikuou
And Sengoku should be the first you play

One is a buggy 1980s game that was machine translated and large parts of it were retconned by Rance III.
With Rance II at least it has a modern graphic update and introduces Maria and Shizuka (two important characters)
III and IV are the earliest games for settings.
Sengoku and Kichikuou are the good translated games.
