What if written spells weighed ten pounds?

Do spellbooks count? If so, muscle wizards.
>>
Scrolls see a lot less use in favor of wands and staves.
>>
>>44032863
Fantasy set far enough back in history that people wrote shit down on stone tablets?

MAD Wizards

That's why Wizard is an NPC class in Testament D20: Babylonians only have clay tablets
>>
>>44034005
Do they smash the clay tablet to release the spell

Obligatory.

The wizard would buy a donkey to haul them around.

Why would they do that
Those things must be a pain in the ass to make

3.PF wizard characters would weigh the same as they do in real life.

Sounds good mate, a tenner weighs barely anything.
>>
>>44032863
Bags of holding become much more common.
>>
MUSCLE WIZARDS
>>
>>44041050

Good luck using your spells in battle then without spending the first 2 or 3 rounds "searching inside your bag of holding for you spell book" (and honestly if a GM's implement an energy to mass conversion system, they'd probably rule that spell weight can overcome any usual means of negating weight limitations, of course I'd also argue that spells should weigh 10 x spell level lbs so maybe I'm just a jerk)

Nobody plays wizards anymore PROBLEM FUCKING SOLVED

I actually appreciate my players no picking wizard.
>>
>>44041514

You don't use your spellbook to cast, dude.
>>
Spellbricks.

Your setting is that where houses are made of bricks inbued with magic in order to cement them in place. However the bricks taken from homes which have been lived i for a long time have higher magical power.

Spells can be written on the bricks in order to release the magical energies when they are "cast" (thrown) or some other condition.

Graffiti is outlawed, obviously.
>>
>>44032863
what if OP was not a faggot?
>>
>>44041514
You only need your spellbook at the beginning of the day to study.
To cast the spell you only need to say the command / wiggle fingers / hold spell components.
Really all this would change is that the party would be forced to invest in cart + horse.

this is truly a horrifying place

Yeah but you gotta have your spellbook in your hand and open so that when you're channelling all that arcane power all the other motherfuckers *know* that all them monsters should a-fear cuz The Caster has appeared!

This is how the wizard gets targeted and killed in the surprise round
>>
Rolled 15 (1d20)

>>44032863
1) A spellbook of fragile wooden slats carved from a single block of mahogany
2) The severed head of the lich pharaoh with one jeweled eye missing
3) A set of throwing runes delicately inscribed on vampire teeth
4) An infinitesimally small neutronium spellbook kept in a reactionless magic bubble
5) An aether compass of meteoric iron
6) An orichalcum dimensional lock and a set of bizarre glass keys
7) A holy iron chain with thousands of tiny witch souls bound to it
8) The gold-embossed calligraphy scrolls of the imperial sky wizard
9) A leather bag filled with the dried internal organs of a powerful sorcerer
10) A newly discovered species of magical spinal parasite
11) A heavy pustule on the scalp caused by a brain infection of wizardbloom fungus
12) An animated skeletal hand puppet with a set of interchangeable heads
13) An ogrish hand of glory
14) The god-baby (or possibly antigod-baby) of a philosophical necromantic sect
15) A thick cake of pig tallow and phoenix ash
16) An engraved scepter made from a basilisk thighbone
17) A glimmerskin coat
18) A large chromatophoric octopus which sprays ink in the pattern of mystic sigils
19) A sealed lead-lidded fairy coffin, whose inhabitant will speak if you knock in the right way
20) Shiny black mirror-walking boots

I can actually get a little technical and throw down some rules for this one.
>>
>>44043938
Do so, but specify what system.
>>
>>44041514
Bags of holding present the item in question to the user upon command. It's a move action to retrieve anything from a bag of holding. Besides, >>44041566 is right. The spellbook is for preparing spells, not casting. Once memorized, you just need a free hand for any somatic components.
>>
>>44044056
D&D, but any edition should work. Pick 6 (or more if you feel like it) thematic spells for each object e.g. 5e D&D giving the vampire teeth runestones at a low level you might pick False Life, Fog Cloud, Suggestion, Spider Climb, Gaseous Form and Vampiric Touch. Roll a 1d6 (or more if you picked more spells) and count in order from the first. This is how many spells you can learn from the object, and you can cast one of these spells that you would normally be able to cast for free 1/day if you're carrying it. If you roll the maximum (so 6 or 8 or 10 or whatever you picked) the object is an intelligent item with Int 10+your roll, Cha 8+your roll, Wis 6+your roll and goals subtly opposed to your own.
>>
>>44042353
Hey, don't knock it 'til you've tried it - it worked against the Sourceror, after all.

'Course, that one wasn't very magical.
