It's still imbalanced as fuck (what were you expecting) and half the new models are giant robots, which is either stupid or great depending on your perspective. Just buy the army you like the look of and paint them.
There's a possibility that things may get better on the tabletop due to internal shifting within GW, but it's probably best not to get our hopes up.
PLay in activation phase instead of Move/shoot/Assualt
It makes the game faster, more strategic, more fun, more fluffy, more balanced, and all around more entertaining.

If you wish be successful at tournaments, Eldar, Necrons, Tau and to a lesser degree Space Marines are the top factions right now. Everyhing else struggles.

If I see SOB Epic Models I am on them instantly.
Though I do wonder how they'd do them as the middleground of Marines and Guard (With a heavier lean towards Marines). SOB are traditionally weak at close combat BUT their primary ranged weapons are so short that in an epic scale they'd basically exist as melee weapons.

No it's not. GW mentioned that they've been looking into re-releasing some of their specialist games (probably as standalone boxed sets like horus heresy or Space Hulk) and the forgeworld guys showed off the small-scale proof of concept sculpt of the warlord titan that they make of literally EVERY large miniature they produce. They've made them for all the fuckhueg stuff for ages, but the community just jumped on it and went

If they do start putting out more specialist games, they're probably going to look at Blood Bowl and stuff like that first, games that don't need a ginormous range of miniatures, and that don't compete with 40k.

SoB don't really make sense as their own faction in epic scale games, more like a few units that imperial guard or SM armies can ally with.
They are a bit short on fliers, superheavies, field artillery etc. They're basically stormtroopers with better gear, a few rhino variants and walkers.

Eh I would also include what you like to paint and assemble as well as what you like the idea of. For example even if you think Necrons look the coolest you might like IG or Orks more if you like throwing massive droves of soldiers at the enemy. Also I for one hate painting and assembling vehicles (with the exception of some walkers) so I really hate working on my mechanized IG army.
