MFW you think the Ta'unar is best superheavy

The title more represents the state of the game, rather then the unit.

>>
Any Dark Eldar guy wanna give me some tips on how to work with five slow ass Talos guys in an army? I need them to be there for narrative reasons, but everything else goes on Venoms and Raiders.

Also is the release of Montka the time to finally build a Tau army? I have my narrative Rogue Trader style army cuz I enjoyed reading 1st edition, and my Dark Eldar army (also with a narrative.) Of the other armies who I think look good, that leaves SoB, Tau, and Death Korps. No more Chaos in 40k till they do something right with it. 30k Word Bearers/Thousand Sons when they come out till then.

>Tmw the ta'unar is actually a GC
>Being a GC meaning that it gets more saves then a Super heavy, doesn't get effect by melta/armour bane anymore, and doesnt suffer from explodes
>Tfw the standard armour pen round will have a greater chance to dmg a warlord titan then the Ta'unar
>>

>>43859167

Its point range, maybe. The only things around its point range are the Baneblade variants (shit) and the Tyranid smaller creatures (shit).

Compare to a WK, the Ta'unar is meh. I'd take 2 of those over a Ta'unar if I could.

The Corpse thief claw formation from the Haemonculus Coven book is what you are looking for. Combines them into a unit and gives them scout.

What's the best option for a Gundam Tau army? My narrative is gonna be based on mecha and lotsa Fire Warriors/Stealthsuits cuz those look badass.
>>
>>43859255
Its not though. Super Heavy is items with AV, GCs and FGCs have wounds and are not counted as being such
>>
>>43859300

Radium carbines would probably deal toughness damage and get like 1d10 additional damage on a successful "wound."

Are Tesla guns like the Necron things? Because those are definitely statted.

Not sure. As far as I know, the Tesla guns shoot electricity. The necron guns shoot..something else.
>>
>>43859401

Necron Tesla does seem to be an actual lightning gun of some sort.

It's Gauss that's the weird fucker gun. Seems to be from some description a tractor beam that yanks streams of individual atoms off the target or some shit.

Or just not be a POS play. War Con, anything Eldar, Necrons, Daemonkin, SM, Tau, there are a fuckton of good armies in the meta right now, and a good player is better than a good list.

A buddy of mine got 3rd overall at a GT recently using fuckin' BA.

So yeah, get good scrub.

The only non gundam suits you want to be running is Stealthsuits

Start off with something like this and buy more according to your budget and experiences on the battlefield, i'd personally throw in a stormsurge but just depends on what you can afford at the time or just Riptide spam everyone.
>>
>>43859434
Right, I actually forgot the Necrons had a Tesla weapon family, but that seems to be more like a living lightning of some kind. The mechanicus weapons are much more mundane.

If you mean the arc weapons, just have them do Haywire stuff. Haywire table exists IIRC.

I can't really rate it yet because of little time against it. The 4 d missles may be rapey and it apprently can melee pretty hard. But, until I face one, I will withold judgement.
>>
Serious question

If I bought a Ta'unar would anyone even play me?
>>
>>43859551
>>43859448
Happen to know what he was using?
>>
>>43859554
I faced one recently. Surprisingly squishy for 360 points but can murder most things in the shooting phase.
>>
>>43859554

That's fair. I'm gonna try the one I have over the next little while.

The 4 D missiles will alpha a WK off the table in one turn if you give it 8 MLs of support, and that S10 AP2 with Intercept is awesome.

In LoW limited formats, I think it gets a lot better. Especially if LoW are limited to 0-1 units, because then you can get multiple Stormsurges, which is super-good.
>>
>>43859572
Yes. It's fairly well balanced. Hits like a truck but despite having eight wounds it can die to a fair amount of anti tank.
>>
>>43859368
MECHA and lotsa Fire Warriors and Stealthsuits. Those have nothing to do with Gundam/Mecha they just look cool.

>>43859378
By best I mean what are like the Gundam sized suits they have? Like as opposed to Fire Warriors and Stealthsuits which are more humanoid sized, ones where it's a human dude in the center manning a gigantic robot suit.
>>
>>43859572
Prob same thing with a warhound or multiple wks/ riptides. Prob not.
>>
>>43859572

Depends on context. In an Apoc game, not a big problem as your opponents likely have Warhounds/Phantom Titans. In a pickup game, it's going to be unkillable.
>>
>>43859573

I can't remember everything, and they sadly haven't put up lists yet. From what I remember from looking at the super-well painted models, it was:

Dante
A contemptor dread
Some scouts in landspeeders
A stormraven
And like 40 marines that were assaulting turn 1

That list just meta-broke so hard. People's brains weren't tuned to dealing with BA.
>>
Tau vs Tau game this week.

Turn 2, Opponent fired a Stormsurge's D missile at my Ghostkeel unit.

"Yeah you're snap firing now."

"Okay, I'll shoot the rest of my guns at other stu-"

"Snap firing, yes."

"Wait is that what the rule says?"

"Yeah, you prolly shouldn't have done that."

"Shit, okay I'll just unload on them then."

>0 wounds

And then I deep struck a bunch of fusion blasters and it died.

The only thing to Tau is Tau itself.
>>
>>43859599
maybe try out the new ghostkeel? You get stealth and gundamsize in one neat package!
>>
>>43859599

Yeah, run 9 riptides. You'll win 80% of your games, and make no friends, but you will have a list of gundams.

People have more fun with an explicit "DARE YOU DUEL MY MAGICAL TITAN?" fight than just kinda tossing it out there.

All about framing and context.
>>
>>43859656
Infiltrator jetpack units maybe?
>>
>>43859677
You can't assault after infiltrating.
>>
>>43859656

They've got some formation that lets them assault out of reserve I believe. He's currently drunk off of his ass for Thanksgiving, let me see if I can find it in their book.

>>43859686
I have a tau friendo to talk to then.

>>43859701

>>
So what is the rule of thumb for weapon types?

My newbie understanding is such:

Melta for armor and gargantuan things

Grav is for heavy things

Plasma is a riskier grav that can get hot and have a bit longer range

For my Dark Angels will it ever really be worth switching grav for plas?

I run two bike squads one with 2 melts / combi-melts and 2 gravs / comb-grav.

On a side note should I bring another grenade launcher in my current RW Command squad of:

Apothecary, Champion, Ravenwing Banner, Grenade Launcher, Black Knight
>>
>>43859677
>
>>43859686
You cant assault after anything(even fancy and dangerous stuff like skeis of fury) because its unfair, but deepstriking melta to tank rear armor is totally cool
>>
>>43859572
I always expect Tau players to bring two
>>
>>43859729
Grav is for gargantuan things with an armour save, melta is for things with an armour value
>>
>>43859629

Savage.

I maintain that Stormsurges and Ghostkeels aren't OP. The former only have T6 and 3+ armour, whilst the latter can be instanted by Str10. Riptides on the other hand are a bit too good by virtue of their high toughness and AP2 for relatively low cost.

Not sure about Ta'unar though. Near invulnerability and sweet guns sounds good on paper, but at 600 points it's fucked if it gets tarpitted or debuffed.
>>
>>43859707
idk what's worse; you believing him or actually getting hurt by some kroot/tau in assault
>>
>>43859729

Grav theoretically has a speciality, but in practice it's absurdly high rate of fire makes it anti everything-except-daemons.

Heh, it's in the OP. You need three Stormravens and three tactical squads with teleport homers.

Stormravens come on turn one. You drop the guys out the bottom. When your reinforcements come in you deepstrike them within 12" of at least two squads and they can assault the same turn.

No, "copy pasted." He typed exactly what he meant. The list is a copy-paste from another format, and it would have been the work of seconds to reformat it so as to be easier to read. That's the problem.

Nah, I literally typed it out that way. It's what makes the most sense to me, I've been reading lists like that for forever.

We're not robots that need everything laid out in separate units. 1+1=2 is a basic concept that everyone understands, you don't need to take up nearly an entire page with spaces inbetween the same repeating units. It's horrendous to read through.

In a drunken stupor yesterday I seem to have ordered 6x4 Rubber Mat for $30. It is 3/4 inch thick.

I think my idea was to make my own play mat. My primer says it is good for robber but since I will most likely cut it into 2x2 squares for easier storage I am not sure if they will rub off paint on each other.

This wil be an interesting project.
>>
>>43860295
Good man.
>>
>>43860275

The way it works is:

3x Stormravens drop off 3 Tac Squads turn 1

ANYTHING that deep strikes within some distance of them does not scatter and can charge the same turn it arrives.
>>

Seriously? It's got all the information, true, but it's stupid long. I go for something like:

3x Broadside with TLHYMP, TL-SMS

One line per unit wherever I can. Let's people take in the list at a glance. And bears less resemblance to Battlescribe, hopefully avoiding this whole conversation

Thanks anon. Truly the biggest guy in this thread.
>>
>>43859787

Guy who Keelhauled the stormsurge here:

Total value of the Stormsurge is slightly dependent on how good a target you got for the opening salvo of D. I mean, if you tap two D Missiles on two seperate Wraithknights or Imperial Knights you just won the fucking game right there.

Ignoring D-salvo, which is it's own thing breaking the shit out of the game alone, the remainder of the unit is a bit of a rock paper scissors deal: Either your opponent can quickly deal with a unit that's exactly two carnifexes durable and it fails to make it's points back, or it anchors down and goes to town, flattening the biggest threats to itself first then dominating the table.

All or nothing. It overperforms or underperforms (whether due to bad tactics or a bad matchup) with very little room for middle ground.

Ghostkeels I'm a little more comfortable fielding... I mean, I'm under no illusion it's not overpowered, but it's -the- power unit of my list and does have slightly low firepower for points.

I mean, the fact that the unit is guaranteed to survive the game does mean that it's mildly low per-turn firepower is undone by getting to shoot consistently for six turns, but... Yeah I'll stop talking now.

Like i get the concept, stormravens move up the field. Drop the tacs and then youre within charge range but youre not allowed to charge out of deepstrike and theres no special rules that say otherwise.

Could you copy paste the rule where it says you can?

Maybe it's just the games I've had, but I've found the Ghostkeel is far more likely to die than a Stormsurge, simply by dint of operating at closer ranges than the 'Surge.

All it takes is a fast enemy unit and a poor jet pack roll and the Ghostkeel gets wiped out in CC. 3 attacks ain't bad but you're killing mooks first and then anything dangerous hits you back, likely hitting on 3s and wounding on 2s.

I should clarify by saying that we almost exclusively play on 4x4 boards due to a lack of space, which changes the dynamic significantly.

>>43861333

>>
>>43861310
They are a hard army to play. The whole DE comparison is to point out that they are a glass cannon with a pretty meh punch. They are slightly more dangerous, slightly tougher guardsmen without the massed numbers and awesome vehicles that make the IG good. They are a very theme-reliant army when taken by themselves, for a masochsitic player, or one that doesn't mind losing.
>>
>>43861240
The problem with Tempestus is that their guns aren't really optimized for killing anything. AP3 is great, but St3 means actually wounding MEQ's is a bit of a chore. And while St3 is good enough for mopping up GEQ's, you're paying for an AP3 that won't get much use, resulting in you getting less shots for your points. They don't have an amazing range either, and suffer from the usual IG problem of getting stomped as soon as someone comes within punching distance.

Some of their issues can be circumvented by the use of Orders (there's one which gives a unit Sniper, which gets around the St3 issue) but that means you're very reliant upon your Command Squads, so there's a built-in weakness that your opponent can gun for.

Grav handles almost everything bolters won't outside of units with 4+ armor saves (heavy bolters and assault cannons work here) and anything with no armor and high Toughness (i.e. Daemon Princes), which plasma is better suited to kill
Melta is for Instant Death against T4 units and vehicles, you want either grav or plasma against Monstrous/Gargantuan Creatures since they can fire more shots in one phase
>>
Right, I am looking to make my own Blood Ravens descendants, so, I made some Psyker-heavy chapter tactics to complement them in friendly games:

1) All Vehicles, Characters and Independant Characters may take a 25-point upgrade to gain "Psyker: Mastery Level 1" or "Psychic Pilot: Mastery Level 1" if the warlord of the army takes this upgrade, they get "Psyker: Mastery Level 2" and may replace 1 weapon with a Force weapon.

2) Detatchment may not include Librarians

Essentially, they are based on a planet that the Tyrant Star has visited an alarmingly large amount of times (then again, 1 time is an alarmingly large amount of times) so, there is a VERY high Psyker presence on the planet.

Is this too OP?

I figured as much. The first 40k game I played was Space Marine and playing Dawn of War has made me realize something. Bloodletters are probably only dangerous if they're in great number or if they're important like Skulltaker. In Realms to Chaos getting turned into Bloodletter was a reward but they're again lightweights. Why haven't CSM realized this and arm themselves to the teeth with looted Hellblades?

Well, based on most fluff plus their insanely good skill stats, a Bloodletter is significantly scarier than random Joe Chaos Marine and only outdone by the most elite ones.

It's just that GW can't decide if they want Daemons to be reality scarring terrors or disposable mooks.

Nobody should ever say "Oh thank the Emperor, it's just Daemons. I was worried we might have to deal with mortal servants of the dark gods for a minute there", but both on the tabletop and in fluff there are situations where that would be a valid thing to say.

Tldr: GW is not good at consistency.

Well, they didn't. They said that every single rule pdf/download on their website is considered official and can be used in games. It's up to you which you use. They also then went on to confirm that the "Experimental Rules: Not Sanctioned" does not mean they're not official or are outdated, it just means they're not printed in a book yet.

So, to that Anon asking about Fire Raptors Blood Angel weapon (it's not a weapon technically, it does no damage) now you know, you can use it official games and it's perfectly legal.

You do know there is a massive major forgeworld (Stygies VII or whatever that one is) which is 95% dedicated to xeno tech and the 5% is basically the stuff they produce to please the Inquisition. It even says that Deathwatch teams are constantly fighting on the planet killing rogue or potential rogue Hereteks and the place isn't Exterminatus'd or invaded because it's so vital to the surrounding systems.

They're allowed to fiddle with xeno tech as long as it results in increased performances from weapons, or tactics to defeat them AND they provide sanctioned gear in the numbers required.

Here's the scenario, you get e-mailed by games workshop to right the new rules for synapse in the 7th ed tyranid codex. The only issue is you have to change out fearless as they've put in some free gaunt formations and are worried about a completely fearless army. How would you go about it, /tg/?

mine
>stubborn when in synapse
>synapse creatures get eternal warrior
>powers of the hive mind: Units with the special rule "advanced synapse" can command a unit to do one of three actions after movement but before the shooting phase
>focused assault: declare a shooting attack against a unit, you may choose to snapfire instead of firing at regular ballistic skill, if so the unit gains hatred for the following assault phase
>adaptive camouflage: the chose unit gains a 5+ invuln against shooting until the next player controlled shooting phase
>ground control: unit may overwatch at regular ballistic skill until the next player controlled shooting phase

Advanced synapse creatures would be hive tyrants and the like.

>Unshielded, the Baneblade stood no chance. The blue bolt of plasma fired by the Stormsurge was of such super-heated intensity, and at such a high velocity, that it melted the armour, searing a hole and rupturing Foebreaker’spower plant with cataclysmic results. Not a single scrap of plasteel survived the ensuing explosive meltdown.

Saddest death in the book, Imo.

So, Aun'va is killed just before the wrap-up, and then later prepares to make a speech in the wrap-up? Typo, or did I miss some mid-story details?
>>
>>43864486
Yes.

They fought the Word Bearers. Check out the CSM 6th ED codex (timeline section).

While I don't harbour any ill will towards the Empire, maybe they'll change some shit.

I mean a 10,000 year old tank shouldn't be something to brag about. No shit it got stomped by something that rolled off the factory that same year.
>>
>>43861377
How the hell do you use readmium to convert to PDF?
>>
>>43864545
It's almost like the narrator was replaced mid story, but the tau wouldn't do anything... mysterious like that. No way comrade.
>>
>>43864566
>I mean a 10,000 year old tank shouldn't be something to brag about.

Think of its ancient and noble spirit that was snuffed out by xeno perfidy, you heartless bastard.
>>
>>43864545
Wasn't the fact that he's dead or jot alleged. Empire claims their assassin got him and the Ethereals claim he will make a speech to prove he is alive.
>>
>>43864610
I get the moral and emotional side, I do, but for fuck sakes. Invent something new.
>>
>>43864674
in the real world sure. but in 40k? that's heresy. and the older the tech the better it is.
>>
>>43864545

It's a cover up. He's dead.
>>
>>43864566
The tank is relic. It's been around as long as the Imperium has been around.
>>43864674
Invention? This is the Imperium we're talking about here. That would only happen if Mars suddenly stops being stupid and if they hit the motherload of STCs like in this thread http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/3556122/
But you know what would happen if the Imperium found that many STCs? Something like the SoB and the flamer would happen, or Chaos would be a brat and destroy it.

DoW Anon here. That Techmarine's Razorback can go faster than expected when the full speed ability is used. Those technophiles really love their metal boxes.

>>43865097
dammit anon, stop making me wanna play dow2
>>
>>43859965
First off, if you are running farsight enclaves, the requirement is that one unit of troops suits must number 3 suits not counting drones. You have 2 troops suits running naked. Not a good idea.
>>
>>43865178
Not anymore

>>43864545
No he is dead for good. The ethereal council use a holobullshit to embold the tau moral after exterminatus
>>
>>43864443
Oh I know, I was just saying can you still pull it off and clear all the side missions that remove Chaos, like "save guardsmen" or whatever.
>>
>>43865142
No. I do what I want.
>>43865382
I know.
>>
>>43864566
>I mean a 10,000 year old tank shouldn't be something to brag about.
Really man? It's a tank that have being fighting for 10 000 years, that's some shityou brag about, specially in the kind of battles that take place on 40k.
>>
Well a quick resume.

Pask is alive. It was rekt by amour interdiciotn cadre lead by Longstrike.
Vindicare and eversor go after fasrsight. The first kill a bunch of people and damage the shield generator of oshova. Darkstrike set an ambush a finally kill the vindicare.
The eight fought with the eversor and finally, the wrech machine is slain by farsight himself.
The callidus almost slain shawdoswun if not for the sacrifice of one pathfinder shas ui,
Space pope is killed by the Culexus. The empire use Holographs to spread mesages of hope.
The astra militarum actually was a really good contender. Is not the, always getting rekt by tau, that kauyon was.
Exterminatus!!!!

Most important. The skitary are a real ASSHOLES. Go retrieve tau tech and then disapear, giving the middle finger to the IG and the MARINESS. A 150% ASSHOLES.

Can you use the formations in Mont'ka for the Taucurion in Kauyon? If they can't be part of the main detachment, can you still use them as allies?

The whole Aun'va thing is bullshit.

In one of the novels, he gives a message about how he is glad she has survived her flagship being destroyed. But a few sentences before said there was no way for that message to arrived by now, for it to have arrived, it must have been sent BEFORE her ship exploded.

In short, it seemed to imply Aun'va knew Shadowsun's ship would be fired on, one hitted, she would escape and then survive.

You know what MY guess is?

Aun'va has messages pre-recorded for any possibility.

Had she not been shot down? He'd have a message for that.

Had she not survived the shot down? He would have a message explaining how she was cowardly killed on a peaceful diplomatic mission.

As she had survived, she got the message which said so.

But, even then it doesn't make sense, as the message still had to arrive, pre-recorded or not.

Fuck, I don't get their whole system. The novel said they have to have relay beacons around the systems to bump the messages and the Tau system was like 2 years away in space travel, so how the fuck did Aun'va get the message and then back again?

Or was he in a nearby system? Wait, doesn't it say he was at the head of the expansion anyway?

Okay, never mind, makes sense. it was just poorly explained.... Anyway, Tau having pre-recorded messages of everything seems very Tauish.

Tau have no need for such crude methods when they can simulate any personality with an engram and a hologram.
>>
>>43865489
Yes, you can use this formation outside the Taucurion
>>
>>43865410
>I know

Yet you did not answer my question. My point was, can you make him max Chaos AND do all the side missions, which obviously remove Chaos from him.

>>43865489
So heretical it hurts.

You know what I find funny? Tau are from the East. Yet Cadia is Constantinopolis. Which means shouldn't it be the Tau banging on the gates, not the Muslims (Chaos)? Or are they representing somebody else?

Also. I view it as this.

1. SoB = Catholic Christians
2. Space Marines = Jews
3. Imperial Guard = Protestant Christians
4. Chaos = Muslims

Think about it. SoB proclaim that Emperor is a God. Space Marines think that Emperor is an extremely powerful man, but a man nonetheless and is not a God (bar Black Templars and your OCDONUTSTEALS). Imperial Guard worship the Emperor, but not to the degree that SoB do and don't strap them to physical and mind rape engines if they do something wrong, or shave their hair off and charge naked wielding massive chainswords. While Chaos claim that the Emperor is a false God and they're banging on Cadia (Constantinopolis) to try and topple him (Pope basically).

As we all know, Constantinopolis did eventually fall to Muslims and has been Muslim ever since then. The spread of Islam didn't go much further than that, bar some Slavic states (who then removed kebab) and Greece.

I dunno, maybe I'm thinking too much into it....
>>
>>43865527
That's what I meant. There was always a pre-worked out reply, regardless of how it was delivered. That costly war? It's all gonna make us stronger. That curb stomp? We're just so damn good. That stalemate? We cannot be denied!

Etc.

DoW Anon here. Ulkair thrashed me again. Eventually I will keep killing the mooks until I get better gear.

Dude, the propaganda is the most important part of any empire.

Did the Tau got any piece FTL toy in Mont'ka?

Nothing listed. Only that they are stuck betwern tyranids and chaos

Not chaos, just fire*

Only the Farsight Enclaves for now. I think there are rumours of more Tau campaigns next year. They still have to release a full fledged Farsight supplement.

DoW2 anon makes me load up DoW2

>load up DoW2
>Hey sign up for Relic account and get free lewts
>do it
>load up old game
>no new items
>quickly make new character
>shit loads of new Lv.4-8 gear

Fuck sake. Now I dunno whether these carry over to Chaos Rising or are auto available in Chaos Rising or what. It'd be effort to re-do my game again....

Also I double checked, Thaddeus doesn't do a knock back + damage when he teleports in, that's only if he's not in termy armour. Thou my Thaddeus is at like 171 armour he isn't going to die.

Also, it's a shame I don't have good gear for Thule, or I'd use him. As Avitus's Focus Fire affects the squad now.

I see some improvements, I'll be more interested when I see how they handle Flamers. I can't expect stuff like Dreadnoughts or Land Speeders anymore, it will never be in the Alpha with how fast they want to release the game.
>>
>>43866495
It's improved a lot since I last saw it. It reminds me of Space Marine Multiplayer. Which is a positive thing.

The execution moves are cool too. My mate bought and is playing it, he says it's just like SM Multiplayer too. It's all good. I say worth watching.

It is specifically noted to NOT be an exterminatus.
"In his long and storied career, Lord Admiral Hawke had twice seen Exterminatus performed and he knew that this was not that ritual. He did not know what it was that he fired upon Agrellan, but he was glad to have it off his ship."
