>It's very difficult to tell how much of a cyborg is organic or mechanical, even with a dissection.
Do you call a mechanic or a doctor when something fucks up?
Pic mostly related.
>>
Depends on what gets fucked up.

Yes.

But OP said even with a dissection it's hard to tell.
So how do you know what got fucked up?

Wouldn't a large number of cyborgs existing/transhumaning becoming popular mean there'd probably be a change in medical treatment resulting in either all surgeons and doctors being required to learn how to treat cyborgs or if it's rarer, specific Cyborg-Doctors who specialise in treating cyborg patients.

Both, and my local evil overlord, since the tag says "Return to if lost".

You call a cybernetics specialist.
Equal parts engineer and surgeon.
>>
If the two are that similar then the artificial parts will by necessity be much the same as the original ones, and as such you want a doctor. Preferably one specialised in cyborgs.

With the artificial parts being less human the demand for a more specialised doctor increases, until at some point you may have completely artificial parts externally accessible that can fuck up without involving the human parts. At that point the doctor bit may become unnecessary for those bits, but he will of course always be necessary for any problems with the human parts, and the guy dealing with the man-machine interface is almost certainly going to be considered a doctor as well.

There are already doctors who specialize in just one organ, so it's not even worth batting an eye at the notion that there would be doctors who specialize in cybernetics, or even just certain kinds of cybernetics, possibly arranged by brand due to the nature of proprietary technologies making it illegal or too different for a doctor specialized in one company's ocular implant to perform repairs on another company's statistically identical ocular implant.

This also reminds me of a GURPS game I played where I made a genius medical doctor to serve as the medic aboard a starship for the group. He was brilliant but batshit crazy and obsessed with the fusion of metal and flesh. The med bay looked more like a scene from the movie Virus or a Strogification center then an actual place of medicine, and any time a party member got injured I'd improve them with some crazy cyborg implant that was far better then whatever they had before, but was usually unnecessary for the injury, like outright replacing an arm due to a hairline fracture.

a doctor. because a cyborg is probably stronger and can survive on its own.

I would say this, though doctors in a place where cyborgs are common would probably have special training for cyborgs, or even have cybernetics be designed to work much like their organic components for ease of use with both the cyborg's own organic material and the doctors who patch it up.
