This also completely ignores the way war against people who are actually quite similar to us was treated, as well as some instances of warfare against people who were radically different. French chroniclers were overwhelmingly admiring of Henry V, the Chanson de Roland praises certain Muslim leaders, the Coalition leaders hated Napoleon but also had a great deal of respect for him as a leader, Hitler had this retarded "muh Germanic brotherhood" thing going for the British, Darius' own fucking mother abandoned him in favor of Alexander (bitches ain't loyal, not even if they pushed you out of their womb) and I'm pretty sure I could name countless other examples if I could be arsed to. Outside of propaganda, which is a rather recent invention (in the scope of human history at least), people simply tend to admire heroism and detest savagery.
