Why?

because FUCK YOU, that's why.

>>43788745
Because fuck you that's why. This strategic chokepoint has a castle fucking squatting in it now. What the fuck you gonna do?

If it's just a mountain I have no idea why you'd build a massive military structure like that. Logistics must be insane.

But this at least makes sense, you're at least building INTO the mountain, no on top of it.

Giant bird delivery service. You can see them circling for a parking spot to open.

Kind of surprised no-one ever tried to build a bigass structure on/in one of these, are they just too unstable?
>>
>>43789015
But how

>>43789122
Also this.
>>
See you in ancient inca motherfucker
>>

That makes sense. All that greenery means plant life can be cultivated. You're just living on a very steep hill then. Getting food and supplies is tricky but doable. Goats and other sheer-footed creatures can browse where you can't grow, and you get food, wool and milk that way.
>>
>>43789259
Also the incans had potatoes which are extremely hardy, energy-dense, and all-around convenient compared to all other crops.

I lost time climbing to this ridiculously melodramatic location!
>>

Wow, I knew you guys were taking some measures against the immigrants, but this is actually impressive!
>>
>>43789122

That stuff is all sandstone and similar rock. Really hard to build anything on it and then the whole thing is being eaten away the entire time you're on it

Just as important is the fact that it's likely not near anything useful and worth defending
>>
>>43788745
It's a site of religious importance that overlooks the mountain border of the country.

It only really has monks and military scouts there and receives supplies once a month.

It also has lots of torches and shit to look cool at night.
>>
>>43789122

Too big and vertical - getting anything to the top, even individual people, requires some mountaineering work or a helicopter (which are very expensive). Also, most of them are in the middle of nowhere.

Still, I can imagine a billionaire doing it as a vanity project.

To have a last refuge protected by non living things, so you can earn the time to do kingdom scale sorcery.
Or maybe it's a dragon knight refuge.

Or someone wanted to wast a insane amount of resources on a castle you can't defend to protect nothing.

>Defended from three sides by the impenetrable and unsaleable Cliffs of Insanity, the Red Castle is a pinnacle of modern architecture.
>The view overlooking the cliffs is unmatched in this world.
>One of the most impressive feat of the castle is the painstakingly created road leading up the gentle sloping mountainside.
>Flanked by ornately decorated, but highly defensible guard towers, the Empire Road, as it has come to be known, displays the defensive strength of the castle, the brilliance of it's engineers, and the wealth of the empire.

When you face powerful raiders and your only talent in war is incredible construction skills. There is no fucking way any enemy is ever going to get to you while you hide behind those walls.
