Are there any studies on why people still play this game on the year 2015? Is it ignorance or plain retardation? What other possibles causes would be? I cannot think of any other, there being a huge quantity of far superior card games. Why do this creatures refuse to understand that it's time to move on, that tcgs are a thing of the past? You know OP.... There are a lot of good games out there and even if you don't understand it, Magic is one of them. Yes Netrunner is pretty good but simply not everybodies cup of tea.
And in the end magic has the advantage on being the first of its kind and popular making it easy to find a group, just like DnD.
However I understand why it sometimes seems that a bunch of retards playing this game as demonstrated in this thread:

I dont know anybody to invite. I'm not exactly a social butterfly. I just show up to the card shop and play with people then pack up and leave when the shop closes. and I live in rural oklahoma. it's almost an hour drive just to get to the nearest game shop and it's tiny.

Hardcore players and especially standardfags? Variety. The constant churn of cards keeps the deckbuilding game fresh-ish.
Casuals? Exposure. It's the most popular so they easily have people to play with.
Never mind the fact that games like Netrunner are easy to play alongside magic. That's a major part of their business model: Attract those who wouldn't play a TCG and also those who do play a TCG.
