Played a Gnoll Fighter. Neutral Evil in a military campaign. He was full of the IDGAFs as long as he could sate his needs through whatever means possible. He did get a real kick out of beating people until they were bloody smears on the ground, however. Especially fun when you triple-wield shields and bash everything into a gooey paste.

You got two options:

>1)
make them appear mostly human to the point that they can't be considered anthro anymore

>2)
Make them mostly bestial, to the point of having little to no similarities to humans, as well as focusing on giving them a non-human mindset that reflects thier beastly nature

For best results, apply to either bugs or reptiles, or some other obscure animal that hasn't been "completely" ruined by the furfags. I say completely, because chances are it will have some previous furfaggotry no matter what animal you choose.

Lastly, and most importantly, DO NOT play up thier sexuality, leave it alone as an unimportant background detail, and closely monitor any potential or attempted romances your PCs try to pull with them.

Is this a bait thread to post anthromorphic animals, or do people really have a hard time with this?

I usually go all out with the animal theme. An African Animal Kingdom has the Lions at the top with the other big cats scheming to replace them, Elephants and Rhino's having a 'cold' war but held back by the Hippo mercenary companies. All the while, the Zebra Sailors complain about those annoyingly hoppy Antelope they constantly have to escort.

Human armors are extra expensive due to the necessary modifications, but an 'Umie sword is extremely valuable to everyone.
>>
>>43689417
Or you can play them as a man, of principles, and honor. They aren't some rutting animal. They are a rational person who does person things, like have self control, and self respect.
>>
>>43690023
When I play Catfolk or similar races, I make it a point to have them note how weird "smoothskins" look to them. One, a member of a pirate crew, would routinely remark how the more humanoid races resemble "shaven monkeys" and openly inquire what sort of Human subspecies the black guy was, eventually settling for calling him a "mudman".
>>
>>43689342
You just dont let them fuck anon. If a player is wooing an npc shoot them down. Hell you can turn a furry player into that goofy pervert who never gets laid and the whole group can go from hating them to tolerating their presence.

By focusing on the character and not on the fur. Unless you want him to make fun of its own fur. Just dont magical realm it.

You want your character to have a fetish that shows up every now and then? Ok just dont detail every damn thing about it. It simply happens and the party moves on.

Easy. You can't avoid it being furry, because furries approach doing animal people from so many different angles and methods that every way of doing it is popular with some kind of furries. Just don't give a shit about what people jack to, put in whatever beastman you like, and avoid magical realm if your group doesn't want it in their game.

But animal instincts are hilarious, and make up a good deal of the personality implied in an animal race.
>>
>>43691159

Depends on the animal instinct you're expressing.

Personally I love portraying the Tengu in Pathfinder as neurotic, insular and prone to fits of kleptomania for this exact reason.
>>
>>43691159
Animal instincts in moderation.

Cat person being individualistic, slightly paranoid and minding personal space is fine.
Cat person acting like a dumb housecat is not.
>>
Wanna know what's fucking hilarious as a furry? The massive and intense overreaction to playing beast races from /tg/ posters desperate to not be thought of as one.

Wanna know the secret to make beast races not furry? There isn't one. They are automatically furry. Just play them however you want and don't worry about whatever shitstick from here thinks about your character. If your friends call you a furry for playing a beast person, so fucking what? You can take solace in knowing they are insecure in their sexuality and are threatened by your character.

>>43691159
Its also shit worldbuilding and comes from simplistic ideas about how animal people work.
Let's take cats and the popular murder present thing. Murder presents are just cats giving food to what they consider crippled individuals or kittens. Literally every social species does this, including humans. Humans form packs just like wolves, it's just that we have many and multiple of them, from friends pack, family pack, workplace pack, and more. Sapient wolf people would do the same as us since it's merely an advanced form of their already present behavior and is something that other more socially advanced species do such as Spotted Hyenas.

There isn't all that much that is unique to animal instincts that would translate into something truly unique for beast races except minor quirks.
>>
>>43691414
>There isn't all that much that is unique to animal instincts that would translate into something truly unique for beast races except minor quirks.

Those minor quirks can be pretty memorable, though.

Hell, it will probably be those minor quirks that distinguish Humanity from any other alien species out there, since besides obvious physical or societal differences we'll probably operate under the same broad assumptions of what makes an intelligent species.

>>
>>43691414
Those are some dumb examples to represent your point, though. The point is, to make an interesting race, they need internal consistency, and you can get that aplenty from animal instincts and their general reputation. That's kind of the point of beastraces.
>>
>>43691414
But Anon, otherwise what would be the point of having beast people if using just another subculture of humans is just as good.

Also, you could say that Humans are just tall bonobos and chimps with most of thier emotive traits toned down in to lesser, but still potently noticeable quirks.

For the aesthetics. For the minor though important differences that arise from being a beast race and how that alters the culture. Yes they are going to act fairly human, though I would classify it as acting like a sapient humanoid, but there will be differences, such as their attitude towards fur and its grooming and such. i often build our beastraces around evolutionary reasons - fur or scales for protection against temperatures , dryness and physical harm , animalistic legs/feet for special terrain and the ear or nose shapes based on better perception

otherwise , some phenotypes occur due to spiritual fusion of humans and beasts , so some things are actually not beneficial (which can also be integrated into roleplay)

Play without furries.
The first game I ever GM'd was entirely populated by anthros but none of the players were furries. I didn't use the internet much back then so I didn't know about the crap that people were up to. The system we played has been reevaluated now and I think I'm ready to host for some actual furries.

God help me.

>>
>>43689342
>How do you play beast races without getting overly furry?
Play them as humans with fur or scales tacked on, with the traits normally associated with their species being more dominant than in regular humans.

Of course, if you don't give each race a few different cultures, you end up with humanity having their standard dozen or so stereotypes (White, arab, viking, mongol, asian, etc...) whith all the beastmen being under-developed, or you're forced to reduce humanity to a single culture.

Their muzzles, mostly; nearly every other muzzle shape works well on a humanoid body, but canine features just don't look good in my opinion; cheeks are too wide, snout is too narrow, and they often end up looking comically oversized.

Just don't get into their sexual aspects, and focus on their cultural aspects, or unique aspects that make them different from humans.

To circumvent the sexual thing, I either made the beast races in my cyberpunk setting pretty much unable to reproduce, because they're basically failed military expirements.

>There is something inherently wrong in finding animalistic non-humans attractive

There is literally nothing wrong with 'lewd' or 'furry' content. Living things are sexual by nature, animal races will be so, and any setting where they exist there will be characters and questions that arise about them having sex with the human characters or how societies that accept or don't allow that thing will be about, and so on.

I always drew the line at how much Magical Realm and Mary Sue was involved and how well it fits the setting.

Kobolds, Ratkin/MoonRats and Gnolls are usually playable in my settings despite being "beastfolk". None of these races are seen as especially beautiful, gifted, sexy or special. They all are flawed and face tremendous disadvantages due to size and perception from other larger races. Of course there's advantages with each race, but it's a very different playstyle than if you were playing a "everyone loves me" furry.

If any sort of pandering Mary Sue Special Snowflake crap sneaks into the backstory, I make them cut it out or change their race. Sure, you can play the "so pretty it's a curse" orphan of a lost tribe destined to own the magical amulet... as an ORC. Don't like it? Make a better backstory or GTFO. All of this usually kills furries fast as they always have to be beautiful, sexy special snowflakes.

Questionable races: Raksasha, Naga, Satyr,ect.

These races are pretty human and can be played as "unusual human that tends to freat out regular humans", but they're also generally pretty so unless the player can really get into the differences that make the creature undesirable to humans, there's a huge risk of it turning Furry. As an example, one guy played a Raksasha like evil an Tony the Tiger that somehow everyone loved in-character (Furry) while another played him as some sort of horrible tiger-shaped wish granting merchant devil that people feared and avoided (not-furry). See the dividing line again?

ALWAYS furries: Dragon, Half-dragon, Homebrews, ect.

Beware of anyone who tries to play any sort of "noble beast", especially if Dragon, wolf-like, cat-like or homebrew.

Put down the iron gauntlet of NO if homebrew as it's always furry. Dragons/half-dragons typically end up as furries and level adjustment is a bitch, so just say no.

Another rule of thumb: the harder they bitch about changes to the "character" the more likely it's a fursona.

It's the tip of the ice berg. Furries get scary. Just wait until you see the ones who openly rail about how horrible humans are and how they wish they could kill them all. They don't even see themselves as "human" anymore and see themselves above the entire human race simply because they have a fursona.

>>43698361
>>43698276

Frankly, Dragons come in three common flavors: Furry, Otherkin, Munchkin. There's a reason why I ban them as playable characters: they aren't fun for the rest of the players (including the DM).

Furries kill everyone else's fun because they want everything their way. Nothing bad can ever happen to their "character" as it's a personal blow against themselves. Everything must put them on a pedestal over any non-furries in the group because "humans suck" and everything must enter their Magical Realm of sexy animals. There's no challenge, no plot progression, no tension... no fun.

Otherkin are furry part two. Take furry and remove the Magical Realm. Still not fun.

Munchkins... that guy... there's too much already written on the subject so I'll keep it short. The DM is stuck in a mental arms race against some guy with way too much time on his hands just in the vain effort to try to keep the game balanced and fun for the entire party. It's not fun for anyone but the Munchkin.

The fun of the overall game must not be sacrificed for the fun of a single person. That's why I ban dragons as playable characters. If you're going to say I'm the "Stop having fun guy" for hedging my bets in favor of making sure the game stays fun for everyone but you, good.

Go have your "Fun" elsewhere. We'll have our fun over here. Thanks.

You're a terrible DM(if you even are one), thanks for confirming my suspicions.
>>
>>43700160
aww man. As a DM I tend to let some players off with horrible disfigurements and curses instead of killing them outright when I roll their deaths early on in a campaign which players usually just rp and play off (since dying was their fault) but I had one of these kids once who wanted to fucking crucify me for it because I gave his female waytoofurry shifter druid a scar. If you'd like to assume things, I'll join in and assume you're a furry (and possibly a Munchkin) as you're trying hard to defend them and straight up insulting others over making decisions that don't actually impact your games. Comparing furries to acceptable things is a common furry method for trying to make someone sound like a jerk for excluding your fetish because they don't want it in their games.

OP wanted to know how to avoid the furries while still allowing beastfolk in their games and I just gave what works for me.

Gnolls are short lived, ugly and generally seen as unintelligent in most campaigns I have run. Think of them as hyper-evolved dogs that can use a spear. Gnolls aren't sexy and are not special snowflake unless players make them that way.

Sergals are oversexualized (prehensile clitorises are the tip of the sexberg, always beautiful/sexy, eat other sapients, and are into rape and gore in general unless it's a special snowflake among special snowflakes. Sergals are much worse than gnolls.

I have played a harpy in a modified D&D campaing, and a "catgirl" was actually woman with a cat mentor spirit and hair shaped like cat ears) in a shadowrun one. They were a bit silly at times, doing animalistic stuff (harpy would peck the floor or begin chirping, catgirl would climb lamposts/trees to attack from there, or jump on top of the enemy before shooting) but I had fun, nobody called me out on magical realm or furry, which made me happy since some of my friends know of my fetishes/interests

Samefurry? So I'll just reply to all of the above.

>These aren't facts this is anecdotal evidence at best.

Yes, because people have time to video tape everything in their lives and put it on youtube as proof of everything in the world.

All sarcasm aside, whether you like or want anything really is opinion. The rest is simply observation so do with it as you will.

> If you just went and said you disliked beast races, that's fine enough.

Speaking of projecting... I never said I dislike beast races. I have actually run monster campaigns and do allow gnolls, kobolds, and even ratkin in most human-centered games. Beast races can be fun as long as they don't turn furry (and why I feel furry is not fun for anyone but the furry has already been covered).

I did say I don't like furries in my games, which is why you keep using ad hominem to try to defend your fetish. You're a furry and will defend furries in general until you're not a furry anymore as anything that says that furries aren't the best thing ever is somehow a personal insult to you. I know the drill.

Just know that not everyone likes furry or wants it in their game and that's OK. It's all personal taste. If you want furries, go make a furry game. If you don't want furries, define what makes a "furry" then don't add them to your game. That freedom is why it's a game.

Have fun!

Yeah, when a lot of people pick up on a furry race it gets pretty developed. It's interesting and sort of terrifying how things grow sometimes.

C-Snakes, Chakats/Felitaur, Synx, Sergal and more all are alarmingly developed due to all the temporary fascination they held. Also all of the ones I listed except the Chakats are terrifying.

I once allowed players to add anything they wanted to a campaign with the warning that the enemy will have it, too. I used Furry as a deep well to draw scary stuff from as soon as one of them started sneaking their Magical Realm in. They stopped as soon as they started to see the horrors they were unleashing.
>>
>>43700935
>C-Snakes
Don't you dare bring that evil here.
>>
This is foul. Why did you mention C-Snakes? I had to look it up

>Type One: fully converted Cum Snake Host

>This is the most common type of host. In most stories and artwork hosts are converted into this type of zombified being that serves as a simple home to the glowing, pink snakes.

>Host traits

Don't register as living beings by medical scans or equipment
>Hosts do not have bones or internal organs. They are simply a skin filled with C-Snakes
Have no mind of their own. The brain and all its memories are consumed by the snakes
Will not attack other C-Snakes or C-Snake Hosts
Radiate no scent or pheromones
Have no control over their sexual urges and act as wild, sex-crazed animals
Hosts controlled by advanced, or higher level snakes may not outright attack a potential victim in public, but will still try to seduce them. Lower level snakes without tact may still attack and rape a victim in public
Can be easily detected by GenEns and guard dogs
Have the ability to grow a penis if female. males have an enlarged penis. Advanced snakes can control this trait. Lower level snakes cannot and the host stays constantly endowed
Constantly leak pink goo
Lower level snake react only to the presence of organic beings. Advanced snakes can still perform as the host would normally, but may become confused by robots and non-organic beings.
Any essence or soul the host had is lost. Only the host's shell remains as a vessel for the snakes to inhabit.

>>
>>43701118

These things are vile.

C-Snake Host types/traits

There are a few traits that are common to all host types.

C-Snakes generate a pink slime that absorbs into the skin of the victim causing heightened sex drive and uncontrollable urge to have sex. This slime also affects the potential host's nerves so that they do not feel pain and only a heightened sense of pleasure.
Original fetishes of the host are heightened or amplified
Can heal wounds in the host's body almost instantly no matter the severity.
The host loses any magical ability they may have once had, but may still use minor psionics if the host had the ability originally.

If the host is overfilled with cum snakes will display the fallowing traits:

Female hosts will look pregnant. Male hosts will look overweight
The host will grow an enlarged scrotum to hold excess snakes

ERP, unless specifically played, has no place at the table.

what's the point then? why not play a human
>>
>>43704388

Because the little quirks of the animal race are what differentiates them from a Human.

Plus some people like the aesthetic of a lizardfolk decked out in full plate or a lion raider.
>>
>>43704388
What's the point in playing an elf? They're just humans who like trees.
What's the point in playing a dwarf? They're just short humans who like rocks.
What's the point of playing an orc? They're just muscular humans who like violence.

By playing with people who don't give a shit and can generally take things in good fun. It turns out that having a group that wants to go on adventures above else results in a group focused on having adventures.
If sex comes up it's not a big deal because we're reasonably well-adjusted individuals who know what's suitable for the game and what's better pursued outside of it.
>>
This thread makes me want Ironclaw, but there's that one fag in the group who'd stop everyone from having fun because he doesn't want to play a "furry" game. Nigga, it's just TMNT in the Renaissance. What's not to love?
>>
>>43705245
>tfw I would like to try out ironclaw just because all I've heard about it is that it's a pretty good game that happens to have furries as the races
>don't ever want to propose the system just because of the potential buttfrustration it could create
>>
>>43705315
It's why the only thing I ever play nowadays is 3.5. However, me and the butthurt anti-furry are actually pushing to 4e just to get people out of their comfort zone.
>>
>>43705359
most people I play with are fairly open to systems in general, I just really don't want to have the "no, it's totally not furry guys" conversation and have everything go south on me.
>>
>>43705390
Just show up with a bunch of pre-made character sheets for a few systems.

"Hey everyone, I found a cool thread with a bunch of games and sheets and I want to try them out. Dig through them and tell me what you like."

Easy and furry accusations would go to the non-existant poster.

I got the worst of the worst, but they're close friends. A special ed kid who can barely do basic math, two homestucks, a guy who seriously thinks Warcraft lore is 100% serious, and sometimes a normalfag.

The creators came out with a set of rules that had the stats for humans and other fantasy races.

The rules start on page 4 in the pdf. You can also find them on 1d4chan.

by not being a furry who wants to fuck every anthro they see.

Jesus Christ this is the same as they "How do I do X without it being magical realm", you just do it by not foccussing on the sex aspect.

Would you ever expect someone to say "Guys I have a fetish for swords, how can I put them in my game without everyone thinking it's just magical realm?" No, because everyone understands that it's just a fucking sword even if someone in the world is turned on by it

I'm gonna go with yes, plus scaly.

But throw on some space travel gear and we'll be silver. Explain how he maintains his gains in space and you get a gold medal.

the difference is that there isn't a huge social stigmata with having a fetish for swords the same way there is with having one for anthropomorphic creatures.

Take someone like me.
When I play a fantasy game I don't want to play as human for multiple reasons. I also don't think playing as pretty, long eared, human, short human, shorter human, and shortest human is entertaining either. As such I have always gravitated towards beast races and enjoy playing as them. Unfortunately if I try to make a character that is a bestial race with a new group it is almost automatically assumed that I am a furry and people either groan, bitch, and complain about it before the game is even started or idiots are like "You should check out my awesome furry website page and add me on furry facebook bro" neither of which I want to happen.

I have found that I am basically relegated to playing really really ugly beast races since then people seem to let it slide and don't auto assume that I am a furry. For once I would like to play as a great axe wielding bear man without people instantly assuming I am into bara furry shit and just let me fucking smash things instead.
>>
>>43707996
So... You're just agreeing that the problem is the stigma. Which is what I said.

Bottom line is that if everyone stopped assuming that literally everything is done for fetish reasons then this shit wouldn't be a problem.
>>
>>43707996
like see this
>>43700776

If I were to try and make a bestial character in this guys campaign I would be turned down instantly without even being allowed to play

I would basically be forced into playing some variation of human, which I would probably do to make everyone happy, or I would be forced to play another skulking ratfolk, cruel xenophobic kobold, or uneducated brutish gnoll. If the character doesn't fit into his standard trope of what a few limited beast men should be then it doesn't fly and is 100% furry shit.

I get why people are like that I have seen quite a bit of that degeneracy myself and I hate it as much as everyone else.
It pisses me off that I probably couldn't even play a Minotaur or Satyr styled character in that anon's campaign without being thrown out simply because retarded sexual deviants went and ruined beast themed races for everyone.

what a disaster
>>
>>43708173
its a bad comparison
if I had a sword fetish and made a character that used a sword but didn't play the character with my fetish in mind then no one would ever even know and wouldn't even make an assumption. The character would be accepted and I would be allowed to play what I want

If I make a beast race it doesn't matter if I have a fetish for them or not the character is auto declined due to it being furry shit no chance given.

so yes if people stoppled assuming that the character was made for fetish reasons then it wouldn't be a problem. People will never stop doing that at this point though because furrys exist and have ruined it for everyone
