That's... Actually a pretty good idea for the right magic system.
Inscribe runes/glyphs/graffiti to leather bands. Equip. When they burn out you can discard the now useless band and make a new one. Durable enough to worn often but not too heavy or expensive to replace.
I kind of want to play a Buckle McBeltersson now.

I'm pretty sure that guy's a Level 7 Warlock/Level 10 Edgelord.
You have to be wearing at minimum as many belts as you have levels in Edgelord or you lose access to your class features altogether. If you can get twice as many as you have levels, your features actually function at their exepcted power, and if you can reach Edgelord^2 belts, you get bonuses.
For SOME REASON, Edgelords quickly develop a belt-based "fashion sense".

Hell, Dishonored mixed the two up pretty well. Sneaking around, physically transferring into a fish, swim up a drain and exiting inside the target building to bkink around before taking down guards.
