Dealing with malfestation, whether being malfested yourself or hunting down the malfested monsters, dealing with plenty of wandering souls trying to uncover answers, beating the shit out of everyone you see, even hunting down Soul Edge or Soul Calibur are all viable hooks.
Always wanted to run a game in this universe actually. Or play in one, either would work. Just always wondered what system i would use and what not.

It's got really solid and detailed combat mechanics BUT it also has the ability to stat up really weird fucking abilities that I'm not sure SoS/RoS can replicate. I also think those two systems might be too realism-focused for a Soul Calibur game, where shit like crabwalking at your opponent with katars is a totally legitimate battle tactic. GURPS's sliding scale of realism should be able to manage a game where mostly-reasonable fighters like samurai, 15th century French duelists, and staff fighters can take on dual-wielding blade-tonfa users, metal hula-hoop wielders, and whatever the fuck Voldo is without it being a forgone conclusion for either side.

Aeon was a fucking hero who went out to save the world. All he got for it was hit by the mindfuck-evil wave that Cervantes dying the first time set off, and then he got turned into a lizardman and used as a slave to evil cultists.
He's rather understandably pissed off Hephaestus sent him on a mission with dozens of other expendable holy warriors and then left him to a fate worse than death because Sophitia succeeded once he regains his sanity, and the fact Hephaestus has been sending people to kill him ever since then hasn't really been great for Aeon's mood.

Her main thing is that she's caught between a horrible, crippling fear of being alone in the world and an incapacity to empathize with others, along with the whole sadism thing.
Tira can't relate to human beings except when she's killing them because she was raised as a weapon by assassins and "graduated" by murdering the woman who raised her. She's tried to be a normal person, but she can't empathize with humans after the life she's lived and so she inevitably kills them.
She views Soul Edge as a being like herself, unable to coexist with humans and compelled to kill. It's the only being Tira's ever been able to empathize with, and so she's developed a fanatical loyalty to it.
Ironically, with the impact Tira's had on Pyrrha's life, Pyrrha might be the only human being Tira has any empathy for, which might explain a lot about why Tira wanted her to become the new incarnation of her master/lover.

Honestly, when you think about it? Exalted is high-powered, yes, but it simply condenses a lot of stuff adventurers are expected to do.
Generally, PCs are able to carve their way through whole armies. Exalted can do that. They're supernaturally charismatic enough to sway whole armies, and the only thing that gives them serious trouble are other Exalted (i.e. shorthand for important characters) and really badass monsters.
Basically, the whole Exalted thing is just an excuse for being a PC. It would fit into Soul Calibur with no real trouble. The only ones who would be really odd would be Infernal Exalted and Alchemical Exalted.

I was a little curious about ZWEI and Viola, too. Zwei appears to basically have a stand while Viola has honest to god magic. It sorta seems like their presence indicates that Soul Calibur's world is becoming MORE magical as the swords battle rather than the magic going away, which might make sense, as vampires were just stories before Raphael became one from his Malfestation and began infecting others to be his servants. Combine that with various gods being real and interfering with mortals, and it seems like Zwei and Viola are there to draw attention to the supernatural gaining power in their world.
Both characters are mostly just "mysterious" though, and apparently they were supposed to be important in the 75% of SCV's story mode that got axed because Namco kept cutting their budget and development time to try and have an excuse to get rid of Project Soul and focus on Tekken.
I've heard completely unsubstantiated speculation that Zwei is supposed to be a follower of Stephen Bocskay, the future prince of Transylvania, who rebelled against Rudolf II in real history. Since Nightmare is manipulating Rudolf II in this history, Bocskay being poisoned shortly after a peace settlement was reached was done on Nightmare's orders, and Zwei found out and wants revenge.

All she has is the blood of the dread pirate Cervantes de Leon in her; because he was one of Soul Edge's greatest wielders, she was cursed by the sword by extension. Ivy doesn't want to risk having kids because that means the cursed bloodline will continue, and she intends to do everything in her power to have the blood curse end with her. That's part of why Ivy went so deep into alchemy: she's trying to find a way to break the curse.

It's nice, there's a mix of an actual hate plague apocalypse scenario in some places and a fucking inquisition in the holy roman empire that's actually being manipulated by the guy CAUSING all of it to harvest more souls. There's no way to tell the infected apart from normal people until they start sprouting monster arms and glowy red eyes and tear you apart and it's likely not long before other noblemen follow Graf Dumas's lead and realize that it's really fucking easy to send a witch-hunt after your political enemies by claiming they're malfested.
And every time Soul Calibur and Soul Edge clash, the reality-wedgies get worse and more horrible shit seeps into the world. The setting gets more high-magic every time the swords face off, and they're only accelerating at this point. We'll probably be adding in "eldritch monstrosities from the realm of souls beyond time and space invading reality" to shit going down soon.

She's a Teutonic noblewoman who wants the swords for her collection, a sadomasochist who puts the "lust" in "bloodlust", and prides herself on being a ridiculously talented swordswoman, favoring a kriegsmesser. She's willing to go to any length to get her hands on
He's her loyal bodyguard/lover, a Switzer and former sellsword wielding some variety of dueling sword. Overall he comes off as a reasonable guy, but he believes that love is the one great truth of the universe, and all else is secondary to the importance of love, that no act committed in the name of love is ever wrong. And the woman he loves is evil and power mad, so he commits all kinds of atrocities while genuinely believing himself to be completely justified.
Basically the idea here is to have a pair of villains who AREN'T malfested or anything, just a very human flavor of insane and evil.
