It's not about price, it's about the sculptors doing what they want to do. If you don't like it that is fine, but I'm sick of the belly aching because people aren't getting pandered to, that the sculptors seemingly have an amount of freedom to do what they want rather be shackled like slaves.
I would also not give the grognards who complain about new models as much shit if they could come up with at least decent arguments to go along with their complaining and not rely on ephemeral buzzwords such as "character" because they can't formulate a reason why they like or don't like something.

It lacks proper textures
The are no smooth curves on the models, it's all poorly computer sculpted edges
The interaction between the movement of the beast and the pose of the rider is so confusing you can't really see what it's trying to do
The proportions of the rider make it look fat, the proportions of the beast make the wings look like mere useless decorations
There're skulls invaginated in the flesh of the monster
Coupled with the exaggerated armour decorations it all looks like the concept of a toy, not a miniature, not the successor of archaon
For the potential of GW this is an obviously cheap work, barely looking like something a sculptor dedicated all himself with passion and freedom
Now it's your turn to explain why it's good without resorting to buzzwords

I've never seen anything besides conjecture to support the theory that the sculptors get told what to do. The only thing that comes close is apparently the sculptors doing things that for one reason or another never made it to completion.
Most people don't go talk to the sculptors and they don't read what limited information is out there so it's easier for them to assume that the sculptors are just being told what to do.
