Joined a One Piece RP forum with some of the typical problems you might expect, that the players around at the start are impossibly stronger than anyone starting afterward. Most of the time they just sit around the dangerous part of the ocean and meet one another and have displays of power and talk to one another about what they would do and to stay out of their way and stuff. Basically just reveling in how great they all are and not really doing anything other than bullying newer players and characters.

I had the idea though to join and make a crew that might not be able to compete with the older players in terms of sheer power, but can technically beat them because of sheer numbers. For every older player, there's at least 5 new players just trying to rise up. So using Stannis as a model, I made a character and stirred up the newbies into frenzy to form a crew with a singular purpose; to take the position of Pirate King which is my character's, by right. So far it's worked well enough that the older players are massively ass hurt and continually complain about it, and in-character keep trying to stop the movement.

Current Pathfinder game. Me and the DM had put together a kobold necromancer (Oracle of Bones) that we both figured would be run very straightforward. You know, proclomations, lots of servant skeletons, megalomania, etc. For some reason, I got the urge to put down Lawful Good for alignment, and then came up with a philosophy of disturbing the dead as little as possible. Way more of a zen monk about life and death. So I ended up becoming the soft spoken trivia farm and party face. While still wearing the bones and dark robes getup.

I think so too, and most importantly the other low rank players following me also think so. We're reaching a point where we can pose a threat to multiple low middling rank players and even got one to join, and managed to drive off a single high middle rank sent by an actual high rank to put us down. We keep attracting more and more new players, they keep getting more and more worried.

WFRP 2nd edition. I played a Soldier turned pirate Marine who eventually gained command of his own ship. He took the welfare of his crew very personally and suffered a number of crippling injuries. He lost his left eye and got his left arm chopped off four times. It wasn't the same left arm each time, obviously. He gained the respect of his crew and would never order them to where he could not lead them. He had the reputation of being unbreakable, but was sought after by both Bretonnian and High Elven navies.

Ongoing campaign. I played a Lizardfolk monk, and the GM rolled his eyes at me (previous campaign I was in I'd played as a dragon...long story). There was expectation of the traditional problems of being a monk. One Vow of Poverty and a well-chosen prestige class later, I rocked an AC of 50 at level 14, damage reduction, saves for days, energy resistances, regeneration, and I could (and did) punch out gods.

Also, through plot events that were in NO way my idea, my lizardfolk turned into a dragon. So I rolled my eyes at the GM.
>>
>>43421152

Rock on. Kinda like an older heavy metal singer. All the motifs of death, bones, decay, etc. but really you're the most mellow, down-to-earth guy in the world.

My character does not, no. There are a few of people in the crew who do have a devil fruit power, including the middling rank player who joined us. In total I believe we have 3 fruit users of about 22 active people.

If possible, I'd like to be able to reach the end goal as a completely normal guy.

>>

Well it's a forum RP, so that might take years. Been playing for over a year already and a lot has happened, but we're not even out of the beginner ocean yet. Close, but not yet. Hit a roadblock with the upper middle rank player sent to stop us, lost a lot of good crew members bringing us down to 22, so it will take some time to recover our strength.
>>
>>43421599
it's possible but you have to go full Zoro/Lucci/GARP/Gol.D Roger/Mihawk

So far my character has been more of a commander than an actual combatant. Only a few times has there been a need for him to act or be strong.

Not saying I intend to avoid strength, but by design my character is not a combatant.

>>43421768
You'll forgive me for saying I'm a little weary towards letting people in. Last time some /tg/ guys got interested and joined, things ended up getting "exposed" to an extent and nearly the entire crew and effort was shut down.
>>
>>43421813
?

>>
>>43421825
>>43421813
But seriously, I think the whole situation with the newbies is fun. I wanna join in.

Is there anyway to contact you if you don't want to post the forum on /tg/?
>>
>>43421825
Two of them didn't like the rules of the place and acted outside of them which drew the ire of the mods. Another one by his boldness attracted negative user attention, and at least one person just wanted to shit the crew efforts up. Didn't even make a character, just joined and messaged the mods saying I was recruiting and linking the forum on 4chan. I got temp banned for that and the crew nearly shut down. And that was from a guy I'd emailed back and forth to give the forum to and pretended to be interested.

That picture is one of the most anatomically fucked up things this side of Rob Liefeld. Look at the pelvis and the hanging leg. Now try to figure how the fuck it's actually positioned, which way it's pointing, and where the FUCK half of that thigh is. There's just a nubby thigh sticking straight out of the pelvis. Like... shit, how do you fuck up basic anatomy that hard?
>>
>>43430770
I'm guessing the artist got sick of the animu "Catgirls=girls in cat ears" and went out of his way to make her non-human.
>>
>>43430817
Nah, that anatomy is just fucker up. Look at her two legs. Compare the two. Realize that the left one (our left, her right, the hanging one) is missing half the thigh, and isn't actually attached to the pelvis in a way a leg would be. There's no definition at all, it's a blobby non-limb, and I seriously can't figure where exactly it's supposed to point. Also, her waist is really weird, mostly because that hanging leg is following some non-euclidean geometry and pushing out in a way it shouldn't. Also, the foot is drawn like shit.

I get that the anatomy in general is different due to that, but it's like he got all the way through, down to drawing the last leg, and suddenly had a fucking stroke and convulsed, creating an abstract shape. Just... why would you fuck it up this badly? You were mostly there already. You couldn't have NOT noticed it was like that.

>>43430910
Oh, and now that I look at it, her shhhh-arm is weirdly stunted and short, and the hand is way smaller than the other.

So possibly the artist just has no fucking idea about composition and drew wildly varying limbs due to realizing he couldn't make them fit too late. Or he was simply a very bad artist.

I've posted it before, but I lost the previous MSP I had for the character, forcing me to create another (seemingly improved) version.

He's a wandering merchant, who joined the party on their adventures to buy up their excess gear, pilfer artifacts and weapons from the dungeons/tombs that the party regularly frequents, and them sell them to anyone and everyone willing to front the immense coin to purchase his wares, party included. This is mostly just a front, a visage of greed that masks a meticulous collector of primeval relics and potentially world-ending macguffins to safeguard them from people who will, with some inevitably, try and use them for their own purposes. Whether that's the ruthless warlord seeking to dominate all life or the party trying to stop them, he can't risk them fucking up and accidentally killing everyone. So he'll either learn how to use the precious artifacts himself, be driven insane by them, or safeguard them to his final breaths.

With the lore not too much though they're pretty finicky on devil fruit powers. For crunch they're pretty rigid. The ranks and stats don't matter too much on a basic level, but like a lower rank would never beat a higher rank in a 1v1 fight, without some incredible creativity or something.

>>43432135
For two main reasons that I know of, firstly that because of the way the compasses work, in the oceans the stronger players are on, it's incredibly hard and time investing to backtrack and it would take a very long time. They'd have to find a way back to the start of their ocean, leave it to reach ours and then find and beat us, and then get back to their ocean and start all over again to get back to where they were. To do all that would take several months at least. Secondly, if they left where they are to come and deal with us personally, it would reduce their presence/influence and power in the portion of the ocean they're in, and none of them want to do that since they don't want to go lower in power and they certainly don't want a rival just moving in and taking their place. Very much easier to just pull influence and have someone father back on the stronger ocean to make the shorter trip to the newbie ocean.

Also from what I understand, while in general agreement they believe our crew to be a serious threat to the system, individually none of them feel like we are a threat to them personally, so none of them are strongly motivated to do much beyond talking, complaining and planning among one another.

>>43424469
I could do a simple summary of each story arc so far, though it will probably take more than one post.
>>
>>43435420

>Prologue thread; crew size at start = 1
Introduced to play alongside a bunch of other new players. The plot was that a hostile pirate NPC crew held a small kingdom hostage which we were supposed to change, and while most of the players sought treasure and other rewards after the various combats, I convinced a couple guys to come with me to take over the NPC's ship. After that, everyone came to me for transport since I had the biggest personal ship.
>First thread; crew size at start = 4
We came to an island that was just a sleepy fishing town and friendly to everyone, including pirates. There was a group of bandits who kept coming to exact tribute though, and it basically tuned into Seven Samurai but with pirates and more than seven. In preparation for the battle I made a flag banner and planted it for morale, thus properly forming a crew.
>Inter thread; crew size at start = 9
While at sea everyone milled around on the boat and people got to know one another, a few tried to start a mutiny to which my character lost the combat, but they realized they didn't know how to navigate or steer a ship so I ended up back in charge.
>Second thread; crew size at start = 10
We reached the first island with a proper infrastructure. Many people split up in their own little groups and would-be crews, a number of them to try and get their own ships. Separate of us though, the local Marine players saw it as a golden opportunity to bag some pirates and blockaded the island before heading ashore. Some players took the challenge, others panicked, I organized my group and some stragglers and kept everyone together as we made for the boat. Not a single person of my group was caught or left behind, and my ship was the only available one capable of punching through the blockade.
>>
>>43435439

>Third thread; crew size at start = 19
The ship crashed into a reef near an atoll, and needed to be repaired. It was also a good chance to gather supplies, but we had to deal with some nasty wildlife in both the water and on the atoll. Also encountered a player who'd been marooned there for awhile and couldn't leave because his devil powers, so we helped him out.
>Fourth thread; crew size at start = 20
When arriving at an island that was locally famous for a regatta race around some outlying sea stacks, we encountered a couple other newbie (but still older than us) crews who also looked to participate. Along with NPCs participating it was clear to be a clusterfuck in my eyes, so I had the idea to just take the long way around the stacks, while the other ships crashed into each other or the rocks themselves trying to take shortcuts. The strongest player crew ended up just blasting down some of the stacks though and cut their way through, and near the end of the race they engaged us. Our sheer numbers though managed to repel them and damage their ship so they couldn't complete the race, and we ended up coming in second behind a single player with a devil fruit who on his own got in a rowboat and made it through the race.
>Inter thread; crew size at start = 22
To celebrate the race was a big festival on the island, and to smooth over tensions between the different players and crews. Some people got drunk and got carried away fighting each other and burned some buildings down, but I managed to generally convince everyone towards an insane but amazing plan I'd had in the works for the next thread.
>>
>>43435420
>I could do a simple summary of each story arc so far, though it will probably take more than one post
please do kind sir it sounds like a blast to read
>>
>>43435452

>Fifth thread; crew size at start = 22
Since the second thread I'd had us work our way towards the local base of the Marine players and most importantly the prison. By convincing some of the player crews from the race (whom themselves, had lost characters to the Marines) and some non-affiliated players, we made a big attack on the base and staged a prison break. It was risky as hell and we took some losses (including the tragic loss of my ship by crashing it into a marine battle ship and then everyone abandoning our own to take over the other), but we freed a lot too, including all the players I'd started alongside but decided to split up in the second thread and got captured when the Marines showed up. By freeing them, almost all of them agreed to join the crew.
>Sixth thread; crew size at start = 34
With the Marine players ass ravaged, the stronger newbie pirates in the local ocean annoyed at being overshadowed, and the older players getting a little worried, the upper middle rank player arrived after having been dispatched a few thread prior. We were barred from leaving the island till he arrived by a lower middle rank player who was reluctant to do so but was basically a slave of the older players. The upper middle player had the sensible idea to just find my character and take him down first individually, ideally in private. When he showed up though, my character managed to survive the attack and escape by jumping out a window into a river to which he could not follow. After regrouping with the crew and rallying all of them, we waited for the guy to find us and engaged in a proper battle. It was definitely the toughest fight we've ever had yet, and we lost a lot of good men and women, but managed to beat the guy and send him fleeing.
>>
>>43435470

>Current thread; crew size = 23
As of right now we are regrouping and recovering from the battle and our losses. There's a local problem of people being kidnapped by fish people so the crew is looking into that. Most notably though, I managed to convince the lower middle rank player to join us, which is oddly appropriate. She used to be in a proper middle rank crew that got successful and was targeted by the older players, for which she was the only survivor and basically made their slave. After seeing us beat the upper middle rank player though, she decided to stop serving the older players and join us for some good old revenge. Her joining makes her the strongest person in the crew, and makes us likely the second or even *the* most powerful crew on our respective newbie ocean.

So yeah, that's basically what's happened so far.
>>
>>43435487
fuck I can actually see that become a real one piece episode. So if I may ask what's your character's name and what is your crew's name. If you don't want to give those away I understand but could you at least tell us you bounty if you have one? Going off from what I know of the show you're crew gearing up to be one of the most powerful rookie teams hitting the grand line.
>>
>>43435452
>we ended up coming in second behind a single player with a devil fruit who on his own got in a rowboat and made it through the race.

That's hilarious to me.

There's all this plotting and chaos going on, with blockades and boarding and counter-boarding.

And meanwhile there's just this one guy who looks at a rowboat, and is like

"Yeah, that'll do."
>>
>>43435487
>She used to be in a proper middle rank crew that got successful and was targeted by the older players, for which she was the only survivor and basically made their slave.

Looks like the leg hanging was supposed to be in front, and the bent leg was supposed to be her right leg. But that would show a whole lot of ass, so maybe they pulled a nintendo america here. You can see that the loincloth deal loses a lot of detail in the piece right behind the bent leg.

Character's name is Torryn and has a bounty of 23 million, after the jailbreak. The main strength of the crew ever since the beginning is our large numbers. Most crews don't have more than like 6 active players.

>>43435700
His power is to be able to repeat body movements repeatedly without getting tired or sore. The most obvious use is making a fast punching motion and then just having the ability repeat it in combat so he can run at people rapid-fire punching nonstop. In the race though he made the motion of rowing extremely hard and used the ability to repeat that without getting tired.

>>43435768
It's actually pretty great because she has a flying animal devil fruit power which is super rare by any standards. Even if she only ever flies around to scout, that's really useful to us. She grows a lot bigger in her animal form though and is physically strong, good in combat.

>>43435822
They've got some fucked up rules system they've been using from the beginning. You get "XP" for playing which you can channel into your character or their resources. Most of the time it's basically freeform, but when it comes to combat, it usually comes down to who has more XP.

Played an 80s-90s styled post-apocalypse + magic GURPs campaign, and my character, Ol' Buddy (And his psychic dog, Ol' Pal) sought to restore nature to the world. However, my dog and I ended up discovering rock and metal music and I learned how to shittily play guitar. With my dog being lead vocals (Although, only in my head), we formed the Grëën Thümbz, rocked the wasteland, saved the babe and used my magical music to help grow crops and trees.

My other party members were a magical mutant beach girl, a very old escaped serial killer, and basically a barbarian Arnold Schwarzenegger.

>What I Played: A Paladin
>What The GM Saw: A chance to make the campaign really gritty by railroading us into a situation where breaking my oath and making common cause with demons to become an oathbreaker was one of the only ways forward, because "evil gets things done."
>What I Played: An Oathbreaker who sought to bring forth the greatest heroes the world had ever known by committing one horrific atrocity after another to get rid of the bad people and toughen up the worthy ones. The GM's ill-advised decision to bake PVP into our backgrounds with competing goals resulted in him killing everyone else and then committing suicide by NPC paladins when the party turned on each other.

I'd been looking to quit the group for a while, but looking back at it I wish I'd just left them to it and gone quietly. Still, luckiest character I ever rolled. Guy never failed a save or rolled a 1.
>>
>>43438509

Nice try, Adam. You can't fool me.

Sarcasm aside, I have watched the GM of Rollplay: Swan Song go through his "GM Turns" where he plays as the factions live on stream, and goes through all of the spreadsheets and whatnot to continue to live the universe around the players.

It makes for really entertaining...show? Television? Because not only is there PC interaction that you're watching but there's also the idea of "Hey, YOU guys aren't the only important part about this story. Sure you're the focus, but there's other big shit going on in the background and here's how it plays into what you guys are doing."

Character's Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppalKM9X5rA

He was 6'9", 420lbs of pure War. Tusks that were broken and jagged, a large Mohawk cut in to the shape of a centurion's plumage, and a self inflicted carving of the Orc word for Bastard on his face. He was raised by a very xenophobic, warlike, and powerful Orc tribe who hated him from birth because of his half-orc nature. He grew up fast and he grew up mean, at just 5 years old he believed himself to be the chosen prophet of Gorm. This did not sit well with his tribe, so they through him in a pit with a bear.

Inside the pit he found a Kukri that he used to blind the bear I'm a single stroke. This cemented in his mind that he was Gorm's chosen and that the Kukri was a holy weapon.

Eventually he was chased out of his home by the rest of the tribe, and while on his way through the jungle found a wandering Adventure Party. In exchange for a few gold pieces he lead them to his former tribe, who were all promptly slaughtered. Thraka was 7 at the time, and this instilled in him the mercenary heart.

He'd spend the next 18 years working for any army who would take him, Chaotic, Lawful, Good, Evil, he did not care, though he had a penchant for joining the winning side after a defeat, and a dislike for the Lawful Neutral.

He would eventually realize he was not the chosen prophet of Gorm, but the Chosen Prophet of War

And thus was born Mad Uruk Thraka, the Chaotic Neutral Warpriest.

His strength was insanely high, but his Charisma and Wisdom were even higher. He immediately found himself as the leader of our campaign group, through sheer Cult of Personality.

It's been years since I played him so I don't have to many good stories, but I'll always remember how my group learned about just what the Unabashed Gall trait does.

I interrupted an Evil Cleric's long rambling speech that the DM had spent three days working on, by pissing on the statue of his God and then planting my Kukri his back.

"Kat," the only name the Duskan would give the party, began as a fairly lighthearted feral worlder who's attempts at grasping hive technology and social niceties, while always enthusiastic, were generally more amusing than successful. Being a feral guardsman with the armor and toughness befitting of a Catachan, Kat outlasted several members of the party, and the corruption and insanity began to pile up. After a particularly botched investigation of a ritual murder on an asylum vessel run by Sisters Hospitaler (the nobles paying to watch the insane as entertainment, the rival Inquisitorial party, and the Ad Mechanicus mole in our own cell did not help matters), Kat's first mutation was rolled, bumped to the major mutation table by the roll, and turned out to be "Necrophage."

About this time the GM got his copy of Radical's Handbook and was eager to use it. The party's Inquisitor had already revealed his radical leanings, having the cell come in contact and collect several chaos artifacts in the past, so after GM plotting, the radical Inquisitor figuring his mutant acolyte was already dead, and 600xp later, Kat brought out a new and unexpectedly heretical talent during the next "oh shit" battle to keep the still living acolytes from joining the dead ones she saw in her head. Because of the ensuing rush of warp corruption, malignancies were rolled.

Having an overprotective, necrophagic daemonvessel with bloodlust on your side is a terrible problem to have if you want to use subtlety or diplomacy. It's an even harder problem to get rid of.

I made a magic focused character in an FFrpg SeeD game in it's early days.

His backstory was that his girlfriend in magic school was killed by fiends (demonic monsters), and he felt he had failed to save her.

Before this, I had played lol-randum characters that tried to make as big an explosion as possible. With this one, I made his insanity more focused. He was totally and utterly devoted to exterminating every last fiend, to the point his hatred scared a demon of corruption.

Before the campaign fell apart, he could basically act as a Kill Sat with a setup of combat magic and support skills. All he needed was someone to physically attack an enemy right before he acted, and he could do double his already absurd damage.

His defining moment was getting rival commanders from different armies to put aside their grudges and focus on hating fiends exclusively. Mind, he was a helpful party member who appreciated his brothers and sisters in arms. Just obsessively murderous.

It was a magic guild-based game and my newbie mage character tried to save the guild from destruction by donning a magic suit of armor. Instead it destroyed much of her body and fused to the rest leaving her in "a constant state of indescribably agony". The guild didn't know what to do with her after and rather than trying to help her did the easiest thing and just sold her to the magic authorities, who in turn built a magic prison and used her to power it, a process which made things even worse for her.

Eventually she got free by accident, and spent the rest of the game trying to expose the guild and particularly the guild master for what they did. The joke was she didn't even want direct revenge, just the missing pieces of the armor in the hope that it would ease the unending torturous pain, but when the guild refused to hand the remaining pieces over her motivation changed to proper revenge.

Nope, never got to. She ended up beating them in a fight, and the guild master apologized for everything. But her primary motivation, the rest of the armor, ended up not doing anything. It was tragically humorous, and she ended up just leaving and wandering in the hopes of finding some respite from her condition.

That was kind of the intent. I believe this picture was drawn to show the original Pathfinder catfolk, which were unusual and particularly not-friendly fey creatures with bizarre physiology. They got changed to not!Khajiit somewhere down the line, unfortunately, but hey, that's the reason why it's perched in a position that would usually require half a dozen broken bones.

Dark Heresy does some weird fuckin' things sometimes.
>>
>>43443626

Yeah those pictures in the Core Rulebook are pretty misleading. Those are decades, or maybe even centuries, old people that have been in that position/profession the majority of their lives. In Dark Heresy, you're in the first few years of that profession and only have the rudimentary skills to give higher up people a passing glance at you. Literally, you can to and do anything with your character.
>>
>>43443661
No, it's not that. We had an Arbites that literally nearly one-shotted a daemon of Khorne with a basic boring shotgun in the second session, and I still played my very, VERY non-combat-focused character like a maniac.
>>
>>43443687

Alright, I think we might need a story. Did you make your character not-combat focused, then buy Frenzon then say "Screw the rules, I have a gun" and go in? Then actually get the rolls you needed?

Reminds of my rank one cleric fucking up a daemonette with a hammer. This was after suicide bombing a whole witch coven, including a daemonhost. She was on the brink of death even before the bombing and practically dead afterwards. Then she bashed its skull in with the last point of fatigue left in her. Then she just proceeded to stack permanent injuries and insanity points like a champ.

I have told the story once before, I believe. No matter.

Party members:
>The Psyker. Made EXCELLENT use of Terrify, like, seriously good, it was his go-to power in any intimidation or combat scenario. Probably his finest moment was putting three assassins out of the picture for two rounds each, with one casting of Terrify.
>The Scum. The butt-monkey of the group, and almost entirely of his own doing. In theory, he was supposed to be a social/sneaky character, but dice seemed to hate his guts and he was also not really very good at making good decisions. His finest moment was probably putting an assassin (from the same group as the other three) down, single-handedly.
>The Assassin. Entirely build around being the best sniper ever. Small emotional range, low-intensity emotions. Probably his best moment was shooting from the top of an Imperial cathedral and downing a guy inside a bar that was across the street in a chaotic combat situation, while the guy was in cover.
>The Arbites. His backstory included being kicked out of some Forge world somewhere for excessive brutality. Definitely had a hard-on for the law, to the point where the first session was mostly an hour-long scene of him chasing the Scum around with intent to arrest him for vandalism. (See, when I say that the Scum's butt-monkey-ness was his own doing, I mean it.)
>My character, the Adept. Born on a warship. Classic knowledge-focused Adept, but based on his own abilities, rather than tech-enhancement. Finest hour may well be taking on a cyclops-based (as in, Greek mythological cyclops) mutant and doing significant damage to it, or possibly outdoing a Tau Ethereal's personal bodyguard in protecting said Ethereal.
That's the dramatis personae. Now onto the relevant bits.

So. Basic run-down of our first mission. A personal friend of our Inquisitor and his daughter have gone missing, last seen in a run-down street on a Hive world. Our Inquisitor wants us to find them.
First session was mostly introducing people and investigation. The Scum got drunk off his face, passed out and woke up severely hungover (Ishidan Death Whiskey is NOT meant to be drunk several bottles at a time). The Scum then asked the owner of a greasy spoon for a hangover cure and getting a bucket of water to the face. The Scum subsequently decided to throw a brick through the front window of the greasy spoon and the aforementioned Arbites noticing, chasing him down and promising to keep a VERY close eye on him from then on. We then actually managed to basically complete the investigation, and found out that the owner of the bar in this run-down street in a Hive world was hiding a Chaos cult in his cellar, killing a significant portion of the bar's patrons who were also involved with this cult, and opened the cellar up. This fight is when the Assassin did his bullshit and the Psyker proved that Terrify would be a VERY effective weapon. My Adept also managed to pull an Intimidate roll off. Somehow.
>cont.
>>
>>43444255
Second session. We managed to infiltrate the cult, and get involved in a blood ritual that was underway, involving anointment with blood. Our Psyker gets handed the bowl, and, making a Psyniscience check and the appropriate Forbidden Lore check, decides that actually going through with a ritual dedicated to Khorne that appears to cause an increase in the Warp-energy of an individual is probably not the best idea as a PSYKER, so throws the bowl over his shoulder, and the rest of the team basically goes "fuck it, time to kill everything". Cultists are killed. We find the leader of the cult in a sacrificial chamber next door. Yes, her. It's the daughter in question, and she's preparing to sacrifice her father, so at least we found the targets.
We manage to drop her (I think it was the Assassin that actually got the final "killing" blow on her), and get the priest of the Imperial chapel to perform an exorcism on her. This saves her from being put down as a daemonhost, but also causes the manifestation of what is basically a Bloodletter. Priest opens up with some Imperial bullshit, the Scum and the Psyker book it, everyone else fights the damn thing. The Arbites pulled off some ridiculous exploding dice bullshit, and took off something like two-thirds of its wounds in one go. Apart from needing minor medical attention, her father's alright, and some Warp fuckery prevents the daughter from dying. We book it out of there, tell our Inquisitor what happened, get him to get the local Arbites to basically raze the place to its foundations, and leave, getting rewards.

Third session. Arbites player didn't show up.
We're given a choice of missions. Either we go on some sort of cult-busting mission again, or the Inquisitor is willing to effectively hire us out to his friend as bodyguards/personal police force/intimidating muscle for his next trip, which happens to be to a minor planet to broker a trade deal with some Tau. See, he was basically a down-on-his-luck Rogue Trader. That's right, we were effectively owed a favour by a Rogue Trader.
We decide upon what promises to be a relatively low-stress, low-cost, high-profit engagement. Oh boy.
So, with the experience and money from our last "job", as it were, I've bought my character some melee skill (which was badly needed, actually. He didn't have any before that) and a mono-spear. Other people have gone for similarly appropriate things.
So, we set off, ending up at this planet whose name I have forgotten. Tau everywhere, regular boring humans everywhere. It's a jungle planet, with buildings build in, on and around these huge trees that are basically the major form of life there, apart from the regular humanoids.
We are briefed. Our principal is going to meet with the Tau Ethereal on this planet, and wants us to be the counterpart to the Ethereal's bodyguard and Fire Caste detachment. We have some time to prepare before the meeting.
I decide to find some information on Tau physiology and biochemistry, either to help if the xenos turn out to be treacherous, or to help if the subsequent banquet gets poisoned. Assassin joins me. Scum does... something or other. Probably something stupid. I honestly can't remember. Psyker, I believe, goes and scopes the building beforehand.

We all have just about enough time left after our respective activities to get a basic idea of the layout of the meeting hall, and take up positions. The Scum goes onto the balcony, with his shotgun out, hidden behind a door. The Assassin is on the balcony on the other side, with his long-las. I'm at the back of the room, furthest from the stage. The psyker is near me.
The meeting seems to go to plan, then the lights go out and all hell breaks loose. Bodysuit-equipped assassins break in and attempt to kill the Ethereal.
At this point, the Ethereal's bodyguard needs introducing. He's called Sundowner. Yes, absolutely as in pic related. He carries what is effectively a Crisis Suit-sized chainsword.
Sundowner takes a swing at one of the two assassins that's rushed at his charge, and misses. In fact, his only attack with the chainsword EVER misses, hits the stage, and causes it to explode, injuring the two assassins AND his Ethereal. The Psyker does his Terrify bullshit, making the other three assassins on the main floor shit themselves, and the Assassin puts one of the assassins on the balconies down, while the Scum kills the other.
Meanwhile, my character, endeavouring to stop our paycheck dying, runs up and sticks a spear in the back of one of the assassins on the stage. We end up killing most of the assassins, capturing one who got most of his limbs amputated by a Fire-Warrior with a rail-rifle (hyper-powered kinetics yo), and another who was intact. We manage to worm something out of them about Iyanden rising again. And then we end the session.

Fourth session. We're basically released for a bit to pursue our own goals for a bit, and possibly find out a bit about that whole "Iyanden will rise again" thing. We poke around a bit, and hear about some people out in the jungly bits of the planet that have been having trouble recently. We decide to check this out. We had something like six courses of action open to us at this point, and our GM told us later that all but one of them would have lead us to info on the assassins. Guess which one we managed to choose?
We head out there, and find that they've built a society in the ruins of what was clearly a pre-Imperium civilisation. All the proportions are just slightly wrong for it to be human. We ask their leader a couple of questions, which are answered rather warily, and then one of us asks whether he knows anything about Iyanden. This gets a definite result, and he asks whether we're with "the mutants".
"Mutants?" we go.
We get shown into the bowels of a Mayan-style pyramid, with really funky designs only visible to UV-sensitive creatures. Down there are, IIRC, somewhere in the region of fifty mutants, most of whom are either too insane to talk to or too mutilated to be able to. All of them mutter about Iyanden rising again if spoken to. We talk a bit with the leader about getting some actual proper help from the Arbites to help solve the problem, and then we hear the alarm being raised.
It's a mutant attack. The mutants in the pyramid are ALL captives from these attacks, at an average rate of one or two per attack. There have been a LOT of attacks. There are something like 12 mutants this time. This is when my character's berserker nature appears, as he runs up to help man one of the barricades, sets his spear, and belows "Stand by to repel boarders!", which I felt was appropriate behaviour. We put the mutants down, and head back towards the "main" town, if you will. End of session.

Sadly, that's the end of storytime on that one. We didn't have any more sessions, and the campaign hasn't been revived since. It's been dead for a year or two now, so my hopes of it being necromancied are basically gone.

We used GURPS. It fits nicely.
However if you want anything at least semi-belivable, DO NOT allow to use Action and stuff like Gunslinger or Trained by a Master. Because if it is allowed, it turns to 'lol let's kill some aliens and ignore plasma grenades in next hex'.

Playing in a buddies FATE game. It cost me pretty much all of my refresh, but he let me get away with being immortal. Downside is that, since I'm dead, there are parts of the game where I'm doing nothing much at all. S'okay though, what with booze to help me pass the time.
>>
>>43443174
I'm pretty sure the quest is still ongoing.
>>
>>43446514
Well, first I need to say that it is not 'my party'. It was an open table campaign (I say 'it was' while it actually continues, because I no longer want to be anywhere near that shit). Basically, anyone in group can dm if he wants. And that's what killed all I know about XCOM in that campaign.

First mission was, simply put, first downed ufo. It was dm'ed by someone else. Aliens basically were like Ceasans with some minor cool psionic stuff (ex. hide in plain sight, throwing grenades with telekinesis). That's when things started to look weird - I found that I'm the only one who used realistic soldier template (used a SEAL), others went with templates from 'Action'. Granted, we were to be elites, probably even slightly more competent than SpecOps dudes, but I never thought I will feel like G.I. Joe among Avengers.
Mission went sort of well - two of PC, including myself, were nearly dead, no superheroes-style stuff actually happened, so I thought that I'm simply overreacting.

After that ufo was secured we found that no one actually discussed how the research will be made. I was like 'yay, xcom-style base and research management', the rest of group was like 'meh, too lasy for that, and don't know how-to anyway', so we ended up with 'abstract research'. That ended up with 'we spent one week to have Carapace armor right after we shot down 1st ufo'. Which in turn ended with 'PC's dodge every plasma shot and pretty much ignore plasma grenades - they move to next hex as part of defense and they have so much 'large area DR' that they take 0 damage from plasma grenade which is not right under their legs.

The setting was in space, and Nyeltor's race had unlocked the secret to immortality. Unfortunately, the side effect to this was that their bodies deteriorated until they were just skeletons supported by EVA suits. These skeleton people were also greedy wealth hoarders. We never SAID they were space Jew stereotypes, but they were essentially space Jew stereotypes.

Nyeltor crash landed on a mining planet, got fucked up, and had to go full skelly before he died naturally. He was also a doctor, which was great fun because it is very difficult to convince someone that you, a fucking skeleton, is here to save their life. Most people thought I was death coming for them.
>>
>>43447590
So in the end it all was like 'we came here to shoot some alien ass and chew bubblegum'. I have no idea why these fuckers wanted it to be an RPG (and what exactly they wanted to roleplay). Somehow I ended up DMing most of missions. Seeing things like 'Oh, alien robot shooting plasma cannon of death, neat! Cover is for pussies, continue assault, dodge every single hit, shoot it point-blank with some LAW rockets, move on' got me pissed.

Needless to say, it was nowhere near XCOM.

I tried to show them that they are not the most badass in the world. But it was 'open table', I couldn't just enforce my vision of how it should be played. So I decided to make a mission about VIP extraction. There were 3 PC on this mission, there was only a token ambush force of 'thin man' aliens. The main thing was that once PC get inside of building, strange and scary shit starts to happen. Like, if you read 'Nameless' comic - that type of shit.

Guess what. They killed every single one of opfor except VIP. Including friendly SWAT team, which was sort of passing by and went to see what all that shooting was around. Why kill the swat? Well, they were shouting and pointing guns at poor PC, they were clearly hostile, sure.

After that I stopped playing with that group. Because fuck them. If they want to shoot things and feel awesome and don't want to give a fuck about strategy, tactics, and resource management - they can play some modern shooter or something.
