/tg/, what do you think happens in the direct aftermath of a successful XCOM game?

Like, you kicked the Aliens to the curb, blew up their main base and are on the way back home.

There are no more UFOs, no more Aliens, no more Terrorists.

There are however countries who turned their backs on humanity and signed pacts with the aliens, what do you think would happen to them?

How would society change knowing that we're not alone and whoever else is out there might want us dead?

Also general XCOM thread i suppose.
>>
The biggest question:

Who the fuck was buy all those alien corpses, entertainment screens and Laser Cannon?
>>
XCOM uses its monopoly on Alien tech to become a megacorp

cyberpunk ensues

Aliens return

Cue sequel where pink mohawk /guile hair corpsec XCOM'ers have to defend the earth once more

I'm high

fuck yeah
>>
>>33887549

The funding countries experience a brief golden age as alien technology is rolled out across the world and the countries who made pacts with the aliens are punished with sanctions or military action depending on the degree of their collaboration.

Then the elerium runs out.

The fact that there's not much E-115 left?

They have "every day" limbs for when they're not hooked up to their MECs.

I'm pretty sure you could just make the body grow new biological limbs with gene mods though.
>>
>>33887799

Thinking about it. What about the alien alloys?
You could manufacture them in the original. However in NuXcom you had to take them from the aliens.

The alloys would run out faster then the elerium.
>>
>>33887810
A parade, some medals, a nice speech about their sacrifice.

Then they're left largely on their own, to deal with implant rejection, prosthesis malfunctions, alienation from humanity in general, all on top of the usual PTSD hell.

>There are however countries who turned their backs on humanity and signed pacts with the aliens, what do you think would happen to them?
They likely spun the opting out of the X-com program as a patriotic move to get away from UN/NWO controlled black ops. You know "MUH FREEEEDOM!" Working with the aliens probably got them tech also.

I'd imagine the tech that other countries got from x-com would be traded by the other countries or flat out stolen.

I honestly think the world would be much as it was before the aliens. Every nation dicking wagging to get an upper hand on the other, but now its with plasma rifles and blaster bombs.

Remember, you just barely found them. You're a top secret government facility that barely had them for a few weeks and needs them to build super weapons to stop the aliums. Once you've dealt with them, then they'll get industry and teams or scientists and universities working on them.

Also, NuXCom only has one little room dedicated to it.
>>
>>33887827

They have all of it in their hands. And laser weaponry doesn't really need it. Also psi.

Numbers, I'd say. Even few hundred soldiers (especially moronic rookies) won't be enough to coup the entire earth.

Plus, I guess, most of the soldiers have loyalty bonds of their own.

EXALT scenario is much more likely. Hell, that WAS X-Com.

>>33888063
XCOM assets would probably be frozen and seized too.

Convert heavily wounded soldiers. Removes the healing time and you can pretend you saved them from death.
>>
>>33888063
Yup, they keep mentioning how they wish they had more time to study all the alien tech.

Xcom 1, 2, 3 is what may happen after a successful game. But after the new xcom, my fear is that humanity will succumb to the path the aliens went on that was the implied theme of the game. That is, advancement and tech at all costs to the lost of humanity. MEC troopers are just the first step.
>>
>>33888671
They specifically say they're volunteers. I mean, sure you pick them, but I doubt it's against their will.
>>
>>33888770
But anon, that tech gives us space marines and dreadnoughts in a less grimderp universe
>>
>>33887970
Is it a wild guess, or there's a fan theory?
>>
X-Com command becomes the head of a new world order. It would start with a few ruined countries looking for alien technology to help rebuild, and would be aided by the fact they would have immense public popularity. Any nation that opposes the world order is painted as alien collaborators and species traitors, and quickly crushed. Low end alien tech become common, helped by the fact they now have peaceful time to study it all. The lack of elerium however and general fear and hatred of aliens eventually sparks a drive to enter space. Humans put aside their difference, start a space colonization/conquest effort, and begin taking over the galaxy.
>>
They'd also probably try to find a substitute to Elerium (and Alien Alloys if they can't be manufactured on Earth).
>>
>>33888770

Nah, all the cool shit was sold to restaurants and Slavs.
The evidence that wasn't eaten is in the hands of people with look-at-me-not-giving-a-fuck gene, so it's all cool.
>>
>>33889024
>what awful mixture of biology and machine has the aliens done!
>cuts off a guys arm and legs to fit him into a death machine
The difference between Floaters and MEC troopers is large, anon. A Floater is a twisted mess of an organism, flesh replaced and left seemingly at random. Floaters probably had torsos and legs once; not any more they don't.

With a MEC trooper, only the bare minimum is replaced, and even then with good replicas of their original limbs. The MEC trooper is still very much human. The Floater? Whatever it was before (possibly a Muton; they look a bit similar), it isn't now.
>>
>>33889024
You might cut off the limbs, but then you give them working replacements. Same with the gene mods, you mutate people in a way that makes them better without making them less human.

I think EW should have gone further. Start off with gene mods that are weak but leave people human, then end up with soldiers who are more spider than man.

Better than after a successful X-COM game, at least.

In X-COM, the world turns to fucking shit the very moment the last alien dies because:
>all the world countries suffered a lot
>in the absence of aliens, the council is immediately disbanded and so is X-COM
>X-COM spent half the war selling advanced weaponry to african/south american warlord, corporation and basically everyone who would pay for it

XCOM though, it's different
>sells to council countries only
>the council actually trusts X-COM
>X-COM is a legit organisation instead of a ragtag bunch of mavericks, rednecks and retards
>The R&D teams already have plans for civilians applications

In think it would turn somewhat okay. X-COM would be turned toward reconstruction and the technologies (notably, psionics) would be instantly controlled. At least for a decade or two.

After that, one needs to look at the benefits brought by XCOM: potent military gear and psionic powers are two of those but there's
>a bajillion medical breakthrough, including advanced surgeries, genetic engineering and downright mind-blowing prosthetics
>awesome power sources, enough to easily solve Humanity's problems for centuries
>THE GODDAMN FIRESTORM, aka "fuck everything, we space now"

Either the council's countries turn on each other in a world-ending war or Humanity takes to the stars and enters a Golden Age that turns the wildest HFY story into Joe Average's daily life.

Spycraft could probably work. Vehicle rules, super-science, a variety of agent archetypes... You could do more than just KICK IN THE DOOR, GET ON THE FLOOR, EVERYBODY SHOOT THE DINOSAUR gameplay that way. Plus, the Shadowforce Archer supplement includes rules for psychic powers, crazy body-modification drugs, and so on.

Or you could just have everybody roll Soldiers and play Rookies On Ice.

My favorite will always be him throwing himself off the cliff in MGS3 for 10 minutes before looking up where to go despite the 15 minute cutscene he just watched explaining over and over again where to go.

That or him getting lost in the tutorial of Bayonetta for near 10 minutes.

Solar War is literally based on this premise. The aliens have been thrown off Earth by X-Com...now what?

You gotta find their home planet and nuke the fuck out of it, I think.

I've heard the full game is pretty good, but the demo is dogshit (time-limited, expires before anything but the first tutorial fight can happen), and the fact that it's never appeared on any filesharing site worries me. I can't muster up the courage to buy it.

Honestly if you want something fast that focuses on squad tactics FATE would be better than Savage Worlds. You'd have to fill in a lot of the blanks yourself because FATE is a lazy in that respect but I bet you somebody has already done the legwork.

Holy fuck. MECs are badass when played like that. You can almost hear them roaring in mechanical rage. A creature hurt and wishing to inflict that hurt in turn. Plasma and laser bolts pinging uselessly off of a metal hide as it stride forth as unstoppable as Death Incarnate.

Typically I usually play gene-mods. In my head canon they spend their Dow time disguised as civilians and get cover jobs in high risk places. Aliens attack in force what looks looks like a poorly defended hydroelectric dam only for them to witness a muton having its head tor off and thrown so hard at sectoid it results in a crushed ribcage. Causes them to freak the duck out a little as they can't predict it.

The advantage of endgame SHIVS is that they outflank like mad (fast and stupid high defense), shoot harder than just about everything and can't be mind-controlled.

The problem is that Ethereal one-shot them in AoE and that they aren't quite as broken as a mimetic skin colonels.

In my mind the Commander was a retired Duke Nukem. Celebrated war hero of, among other things, the first alien incursions with enough medals to melt down and build a life sized statue to himself and over a hundred action films made about him. After falling from a sky scraper and landing in a manner that broke his back he became confined to a wheel chair. He felt if would have been better to die.

Some years later The Council locate an aged Duke in some middle of nowhere rundown drinking establishment out in the endless expanse of Russia.

Kids and adults never stopped watching the films about him, schools still teach of his exploits and the public still adore the man he was.

Drag him into Big Sky, wait till he sobers up a little and offer him a job.

Duke jumps at the chance to make others as badass as he was, to save the world one last time, to make them pay for fucking him up, to smash their cities from space, to burn their fields and salt their earth. To watch them flee in terror and to cry hear them beg to the stars for deliverance and know the black pits of despair as even their gods abandon them.

Also you get the wonderful mental image of him, during the base invasion, rolling around the base with his cigar in his moth, a bottle of fine whiskey in one hand and his old shotgun in the other.
>>
>>33891563
And then someone put him into a mec suit.

A MEC with landmines and grenades is very helpful. At least one, preferably two, assaults with jetpacks are a must. that way you can just fly over the nightmare below, plop down, hit the button and run like feth.
>>
Eeeh... these threads always make me think about the heroes in my XCOM games. Ones I always got attached to.

Josephine 'Mad Dog' Johnson was a Colonel level MEC Trooper, former Assault. She was with XCOM from the very beginning, surviving through impossible odds, including hat damn whaling boat, more terror missions than I can count, and the assault on the alien base. She used a Paladin with a Kinetic Strike Module, a Grenade Launcher, and an Proximity Mine Launcher.

Along the way she had taken a Captain by the name of Danny 'Socks' Christian under her wing. A fellow MEC Trooper and former Assault, she was stuck in an old Sentinel while XCOM tried to scrounge together the Meld to upgrade to a Paladin.

It always seemed that Mad Dog was in the right place at the right time to dig Socks out of trouble, showing up from a flank to eradicate anything that had managed to pin her down or was hitting her too hard for her to handle.

Then came the assault on XCOM HQ.

XCOM forces managed to push all the way back, but at the last doors... hell. More Mechtoids than I could count, and two Sectopods. The battle was intense. We lost a lot of good men. But we were winning.

And then Socks got pinned down by three Mechtoids and a Sectopod.

And Mad Dog was in position to haul her out of the fire again.

But even Mad Dog wasn't that good. Shredded two Mechtoids and even crushed the Sectopod into scrap. The final Mechtoid took her down before the Socks and the other XCOM soldiers could end the battle.

Socks piloted Mad Dog's Warden in the assault on the Temple Ship and was one of the survivors.

In OldX-COM's canon, it went like this:

>The First Alien War ends with most pf the countries politically and economically unstable, leading to the superblobing seen in TFTD.
>With no apparent alien threat X-COM's funding is cut down to the bone, more or less unofficially disbanded, and whatever is left of it is bought out by a rich tycoon and is re-organized into an underwater Elerium salvage team.
>Speaking of Elerium, its extremely limited supply pretty much kills any potential technological revolutions, as the countries just hoard them for "special" projects.

Actually I have been thinking about writing a fanfic about my best XCOM soldier.
I find it amusing just to think about how he gets through life after the XCOM project turned this simple canadian soldier into mutated murderous killing machine with psychic powers.
I mean he was augmented so he would never miss as a sniper. That means he was able to kill aliens from miles away with the precision of a surgeon. He is humanity's best psion aviable. In fact he's the only human able of mind control.
And the best on top of this all? He survived the alien mothership assault. That means after they kicked alien's butt, he has to return to whatever he was doing before duty called.
But how does a human who changes the colour of his skin by just leaning on a wall get back to his everyday life?
Man I fucking loved that guy

Would be interesting, all the people who used to fight extra-terrestrial horrors for a living trying to adjust to ordinary life again.

I don't even need to write fanfiction. This shit writes itself if you let yourself get into it. See >>33892123
