Champions League is direct elimination tournament, in groups Real can be paired against subpar teams like Greek champion or whatever. Then the big matches are between january and may:1/8th, 1/4th, half and final, so 7 matches only.

To win a league you have to be consistently the best. There are no flukes over a full season. It's too easy for lower quality teams to meme their way through a cup format thanks to the one/two-off nature of the ties, and the inclusion of penalties to break ties.
It's basic logic that you get better results over a larger sample. When you're trying to determine the best team then you use a league.

There's a lot of talent in the top 3 or 4 spots (much more than the equivalent in England) but the rest of the league is lower EPL-lower championship material. EPL is the most competitive league in the world, not a babby league for Penaldo to statpad against holiday resorts.
