Yes, the fact is Liga fans are a little arrogant, so not everybody rooted for them when they won international tournaments, but a lot of the banter here is like that.
Independiente isn´t a big team and has almost no fans, big but is respected because of their style of play.
That happened when they did beat Barcelona home and away, away being 2-5, some years ago.

what came out of that was a short tournament that was played in the first half of this year (already over).
Since the next tournament is going to be a whole season long, when it's over Libertadores 2017 will be over too. "Then how do we decide which team classifies?"
They decided to use the mini tournament to qualify the teams, but out of all the important teams just San Lorenzo managed to qualify; Boca, River, Racing & Independiente didn't managed to qualify in a group of 15 teams.
Besides winning the Libertadores (only Boca can of course) the only way left to qualify to Libertadores 2017 is winning the mickey mouse cup nobody cares, and it's only one ticket for the four of them (tournament was rigged so they couldn't face each other until semifinals tho).
Then it came the idea of making another mini-tournament to fix this, but FIFA came to Argentina to fix the whole corruptional mess is AFA and all the teams are holding into nothing
We're still the biggest winners in Libertadores and Mundial in this fucking country.
