I went through a baseball lull in my late teens/early 20's, but I've come back to it (2003 playoffs brought me back. Bartman, Boone walkoff, etc, Lot of drama that year) and believe this as well now.
I think it's because of the fact there's no clock and the ball doesn't change hands after a possession, which just plain produces more improbable, tension filled and dramatic situations than other sports. Every inning is like a 4th quarter because you never know if a team is going to erupt and essentially put the game away, or erupt and comeback from 5 or 6 down.
You just can't sit on a lead and run the clock out.
Also, even though homeplate umps can be inconsistent, I think baseball has the least amount of official influence out of all the major sports.
Every time a basketball or football game ends, 90% of the conversations is about the refs.
I do like all sports, but I think baseball is the best designed of the sports I follow at least.
